Something I am LOVING about your videos that I’ve just found today is that you seem like you actually played the game in full. And that you were clearly motivated to do the review outside of just making videos. It’s comprehensive, and something that even fans who have already played the game can appreciate. That’s super hard to find. Great job awesome videos queen!!!!
This was my first Fire Emblem game as well and Three Houses has made me a huge fan of the series. Can't wait to get more Fire Emblem games in the future.
White clouds is such a chore to play through after so many times. I remember planning on doing the Crimson Flower route on my 4th playthrough because it was the only route I haven't done. However...I didn't realize it was missable. So I spent 45 hours just taking my sweet time trying to get all of the support conversations during white clouds because it was supposed to be my last playthrough. I probably should've looked up missable content before playing but I wanted to do each route as blind as possible lol.
Food for thought (spoilers): If each house, and the church, just told each other what was on their minds, there wouldn't have been any infighting. Imagine if the story took the route of everyone banding together to take out Those Who Slither in the Dark!
@@V-Jes No kidding?! Never played it. I guess it shows that no matter what the writers do, there will always be a fan base who thinks it should be done differently 😹
@@krodus0 pretty much as the hardcore FE fans are never happy to a point that it became a meme that nobody hates Fire emblem more than the Fire emblem fans...
Totally agree. Mila’s Turnwheel in Echoes is what you can use. Also, it helps that it’s a great game and was released just a couple of years before Three Houses (although it’s a remake). Great art too.
Thank you for a fun and detailed review. I greatly appreciate the mention of character writing especially, the quality is surprisingly consistent for a cast this large, even the characters I dislike are written fantastically (i.e. Gilbert). It's outstanding. Cheers from the Black Eagles house, comrade!
Wow! I can’t believe I just found your content. Well written, insightful, and funny all delivered by an intelligent beautiful person. Going to start digging into your content. Really well done video. I loved your house recruiter skits. Edit: back for round three.
Blue Lions is my favorite in terms of emotional impact (that dagger, though). Black Eagles is my favorite in terms of cast. Edie, Ferdinand, Dorothea, and Petra are some of my most favorite characters in 3H. Though I will say, I like to imagine the Blue Lions as the dwarves from The Hobbit trilogy. (Outlandish fan fiction, I guess.) Dimitri as Thorin, Sylvain and Felix as the younger brothers, Dedue as Dwalin, and Ingrid as support.
Blue Lions was the first, and is my favorite. I loved the Black Eagle route as well, almost equally, but I don't like Edelgard very much. She reminds me of my 4th grade teacher. I'm on my third play through, almost done Golden Deer. I've been playing one route each year, and I've always made sure to recruit Blue Lion house members this time, and last time. I made Felix into a monstrous mounted dragon knight.
Blue Lions is the best sooooooooo. I do like Egglady tho. You're doing it right, spacing out your playthroughs. Playin git three times back to back to back was rough. Glad you're enjoying the game tho!
You're gonna' hate me, but even though Three Houses is my most played Switch game, the only house I _haven't_ finished yet is Blue Lions. Please do not sic Dimitri on me.
Great review, full of charm, whimsy and to the point! On my first playthrough at the moment, with Blue Lions, a few months after the time-skip. The characterisation is just great - it really keeps me coming back for more! I have pledged my heart to no-nonsense Ingrid, and Ashe is my MVP of alway. A couple of extra points for comment readers, there is a Maddening Mode for those who want a real challenge, so if you like hard games this has you covered also. Also I get the impression it'll be best to have a big break between each house playthrough rather than try to mainline them all like some medieval smorgasbord. By the way I spat beer over my keyboard at your tea party gag, nice one. Y'got a new subscriber, keep up the awesome!
The only Fire Emblem games I ever really played have been Path of Radiance on the Gamecube which I ADORE and Awakening on 3DS, which was enjoyable, but a huge step down compared to PoR. I haven't played Three Houses yet but I've been meaning to get around to it, really interesting to see a review from a complete newcomer to the series. Great job as always Pelvic, you put so much love into your videos and it really shows.
FE Awakening was my first FE and I loved it. It had the courtship/breeding feature, it had a simple Mario World map. FE Fates did like a Pokemon approach, multiple games, had the breeding again, and 3 storylines in 3 different games connected. Three Houses didn't have the breeding and at times the times the Hary Potter school stuff could be tedious, but I still liked it better overall. Also love the time pulse feature.
I remember a small article or tweet when the game first came out showing that Blue Lions was the most popular house in Japan while Black Eagles was first here in the US. I still think everyone’s first play though should be Blue Lions but also, Dimitri needs prayer and a hug.
SRPGs are my Kryptonite, and adding the social interaction mechanics makes this a Kryptonite WARHEAD, as far as I'm concerned; I'm an outsider here for the tea time conversations. I do like that more games are doing the "weaving in and out of 2 different versions of a song" thing; Transistor did a really great job with that to create a pretty surreal experience.
Three Houses is a great game to both get into and for fans to enjoy. There's just a lot to love in it and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Btw yeah Fire Emblem Echoes is the one that introduced reversing turns and (almost) full voice acting.
Hi new subscriber love your review and welcome to the fire emblem fandom totally understandable that you don’t want to get into the older games right now with the amount of stuff you have to go through.
You can rewind to an earlier part of a battle instead of restarting a 2 hour skirmish? My heart ❤. I think I need to play this sometime after I finish Fire Emblem Dragon Shadow. 🐉 Also your skits are killing it, I laughed out loud at all of them
Nice job LP, a fair and fun review! As a series veteran I strongly agree that subsequent plays can feel a bit samey even focusing on a different house because of all the monastery busywork. After a couple plays it's kind of a chore to play the game again even on a harder mode in a different house. As for the previous game, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia it plays a lot differently but does let you turn back time. Its strengths are its music, visuals, and voice acting so you might like it. It's basically some of the most top-notch presentation in the series although I don't care for the gameplay that much (too faithful to the limitations of the Famicom original maps). P.S. You clearly picked fav song before you heard God Shattering Star ;)
Very good review. I finished Fire Emblem: Three Houses last week. It took me over 47 hours to finish it. Like you, I chose the Blue Lions and I really enjoyed their story. I might go back to it one of these days.
Omg this is my favorite video of yours haha. I’m so glad you enjoyed your first Fire Emblem game even if it makes me sad that you won’t consider any of the older games. But I understand the decision!
Guurrl the exact same thing happened to me when I played this game and Azure Moon route for the first time - I underestimated the importance of the support system even though I knew about it cuz I was just so focused on marrying my best boi Ashe that I just kind of did whatever with everyone else and they all ended up alone xD oh well at least it's kind of interesting to also read what they do solo
Great video thank you! Currently playing through echoes on 3ds which does have the turn back time ability. I love it but I’m finding it quite hard and I’m playing on casual! I have so much gaming backlog so hoping to get this for Christmas. Hope you’re having a good day!
I've supported every character in this game even Sothis. Only one I don't want to do is Hannerman. The one game that started my introduction to Fire Emblem was Fire Emblem Awakening for the Nintendo DS. It basically deals with Time Travel which you find the daughter of Chrom Lucina come back to protect the timeline being taken over by Grima who killed everyone in her future. Other kids have come back with her and their parents were killed too. At the end of the game the Avatar can either die to sacrifice everyone or live to continue in peace. I have been OBSESSED WITH FIRE EMBLEM FOR 9 YEARS STRAIGHT THAT I HAVE PLAYED NOTHING ELSE. If you ask me anything about a game I can tell you right away. I also love how this game takes place in the late 1800's where Mages most likely existed in our reality too.
When I first played this game to make sure it works, I just chose the Blue Lions but I didn't get far on it before doing the Golden Deer route and I loved it!
lmao I love how you introduced your favorite house. Thanks for the review! I feel like I'm in a similar boat: I haven't played Fire Emblem before, and I feel too dumb to play grid-like SRPGs. Glad to hear that 3 Houses is more beginner-friendly! I kinda want to try the Golden Deer route since I always see a lot of hype around Dimitri and Edelgard, hope it turns out okay...
Strategy RPGs are a tough transition for me, too. That rewind feature might encourage me to try this one. Though, Saga Frontier will likely have my attention for a long, long time!
I do recommend playing the game before 3H titled Shadows of Valentia. It leans much more into traditional JRPG mechanics such as dungeon exploration and enemy encounters. Plus, it has a turnwheel in case someone dies, so if you choose to play Classic Mode over Casual Mode, you can simply rewind. I’d also argue that the story in SoV is much better in the sense that it’s just one story rather than 3 or 4, so the storytelling is more consistent throughout. The artwork and music is also much better as the game’s overall presentation is widely considered the best in the series.
Video games are terrible at offering a decent variety of black hairstyles. If they have any at all. Always hilarious when a character creator offers black skin but then every single hairstyle offered are just various styles of straight or slightly wavy hair.
A few comments-- Odds are, we probably won't see Three Houses' hugely versatile unit customization in future titles. Or, if we do, it's almost certainly going to be modified heavily, as having the ability to just grind all your units up to Wyvern Lords and watch as your dragon brigade smashes through everything in its way with contemptible ease doesn't exactly make for engaging strategy gameplay. If I had to bet, I'd say the next FE will return to a more traditionally rigid unit-class relationship. Shadows of Valentia, the previous game in the series and a remake of 1992's FE: Gaiden, was indeed the game that first introduced the Divine Pulse mechanic. It is also widely regarded as having one of the series' best-told stories. (Although there are a few moments in the latter half of the game that are prone to inducing facepalms.) Unfortunately, gameplay-wise, it's definitely one of the weaker entries, mostly in part to the _abysmal_ map design that remained unchanged from Gaiden in spite of the numerous innovations it introduced. Do note that it also plays wildly differently than most other entries, as it features things like single-item inventories and unbreakable weapons. If, in the distant future, you do decide to come back to check out earlier series entries, I would recommend Sacred Stones (FE8) and Awakening (FE13). Sacred Stones is frequently cited as one of, if not the easiest game in the series even on its hardest difficulty, thanks to the average enemy's stats being rather poor overall and the inclusion of easy grinding methods. While it is permadeath-only, you're highly unlikely to ever actually see any of your units die unless you play extremely carelessly (and even if you do lose a few people, as long as that doesn't include your lord, you still have Seth to steamroll everything for you). The story isn't exactly award-winning, but it does its job well, and there are a good few standout characters (cough-cough-L'Arachel-cough-cough). Oh, and it's a GBA game, which means you get to see when the series' visuals and animations were arguably in their prime, as backwards as that may sound. All I'll say is, it's honestly a bit sad to see how far FE's been straying away from sprites in recent years. Awakening was the first FE released in the west to feature casual mode, so you already have that going for newer players. It also pioneered the pair-up mechanic (known as the Adjutant mechanic in Three Houses), and as is typical for the first foray of such a mechanic, it was kinda-sorta hilariously busted. The way Reclassing works in this game (use a Second Seal to change a unit's class and reset their level to 1 while letting them keep their stats) also lends itself to creating obscenely powerful units once you manage to get enough gold to become self-sustaining via farming auxiliary encounters, never mind the absolutely ludicrous skills some of the classes granted (Galeforce, anyone?). In terms of story, it has a remarkably strong first act, a rather 'meh' second act, and a pretty good final act. Awakening is also heralded as having the series' best-handled Avatar character in Robin, in addition to an overall solid cast. Path of Radiance (FE9) and Fates (FE14) are also good beginner recommendations, albeit with a few caveats. Path of Radiance is nearly impossible to obtain legitimately if you're not willing to pay scalpers upwards of $150 dollars, never mind the fact that you need either a Gamecube or Wii to actually play it (and honestly, everything except the character sprites and prerendered backgrounds look ugly as sin. FE didn't have an easy 2D-3D transition). And Fates is... well, let's just say that we don't talk about Fates' story and leave it at that. _So much wasted potential..._ ...can you tell I love this series?
YES! I'm so glad to see scales of the godess get some love! By far my favorite monastery theme and one of my favorites in the whole game. Don't see enough people praise that track.
Wow...on point with the Rain and Lightning variants...simply gorgeous music. My first playthrough was amazing...multiple units fell throughout the end...by the final battle I only had 4 students, Blyleth and Catherine...I still cant believe I pulled through...simply amazing. Also my first experience with Fire Emblem; I will be returning.
Nice Cosplay an setup Pelvic ! Still really hopeful to see a collab video with you & Bobdunga ! You 2 could be Sisters even Twins you look so munch alike
I loved your skits for each of the houses, I was laughing out loud when I saw how you dressed for each house 🤣 But, I have to say, I'm sticking with my Golden Deers, I just love Claude WAY too much
Real Ashe dialogues Support A: Is there anything I can do for you ? I want to do it because I care about you- Me - 💘 OKAY let's finish this I want to marry you ! (First S Support done !) Dimitri - Wait but what about me ? Isn't your plan before ? Me - Sorry maybe next time Dimitri ! (In the Alternative End) Me - Okay If I finish with Dimitri I want Petra with Ashe in the End !
Girl i bought a $100 blue lion purse… they are indeed the best house. Btw i know you said you aren’t considering older FEs, but man, Echoes is a phenomenal game that is the most similar to 3H in terms of game mechanics (turn back time and no weapon triangle), plus it’s the only other FE game with full voice acting. It’s my personal favorite behind 3H, with Awakening as well. I understand your reasonings for not going back though. :)
I thought the overall story was a little too on the nose, but the way it was fully revealed by at least 3 playthroughs was great. Personally, i loved the Golden Deer house more because of the cast. And Manuela as my wiafu.
Am I the only one who noticed the irony when you said the turn back time mechanic made you enjoy the game but you aren't "going "backward" try out the older games?nice lol. Great review!
While I'm all about building a ludicrous collection of Switch RPGs, I surprisingly haven't picked this one up. I kind of have an on-and-off relationship with Fire Emblem. That said, the skits in this one had me laughing my arse off xD
I truly love the DLC in this game that extra story,Then adds to the main story and I'll lay this feels really good, unlike your first playthrough it's a nightmare to try and get everyone but your third run maybe even your second, it's a lot easier to get every single character other than unfortunately two of the other houses if you don't choose them. I made edelgard my dancer ny first run...... sigh.
I ended up playing Black Eagles for the only gay romance, and did the Edelgard route because it made the most sense of all the plots. Playing that route first kind of ruins all the rest because of what you learn about Rhea. So I ended up not really playing the rest even though I gave them both a shot, I never made it past time jump.

I will be whatever I need to, to make it work lol
I think that title could fit just as well (even better) with Edelgard

I wish more characters had hair styles like you. At this point I'm just excited to see what the new hairdo will be in the next video lol.
Video games are terrible at offering a decent variety of black hairstyles. If they have any at all. Always hilarious when a character creator offers black skin but then every single hairstyle offered are just various styles of straight or slightly wavy hair.

A few comments--
Odds are, we probably won't see Three Houses' hugely versatile unit customization in future titles.
_So much wasted potential..._
...can you tell I love this series?
YES! I'm so glad to see scales of the godess get some love! By far my favorite monastery theme and one of my favorites in the whole game. Don't see enough people praise that track.
What??? That track is amazing!!!
Black Eagles though, I'm a huge Hubert stan
I romanced him when I played that route ♡♡♡
"How about joining a family tree that isn't a full circle"
I'm dying 😂😂😂
I loved those kits, you're fantastically creative and funny.
Yes!! I love this game. My favorite house so far is the Golden Deer, but we'll see if that changes when I finish the Blue Lions route.
Nice review, I got the collector's edition myself
This game was a trip and Bernadette is best girl 😍
Wow...on point with the Rain and Lightning variants...simply gorgeous music. My first playthrough was amazing...multiple units fell throughout the end...by the final battle I only had 4 students, Blyleth and Catherine...I still cant believe I pulled through...simply amazing. Also my first experience with Fire Emblem; I will be returning.
Nice Cosplay an setup Pelvic ! Still really hopeful to see a collab video with you & Bobdunga ! You 2 could be Sisters even Twins you look so munch alike
I loved your skits for each of the houses, I was laughing out loud when I saw how you dressed for each house 🤣 But, I have to say, I'm sticking with my Golden Deers, I just love Claude WAY too much
Real Ashe dialogues Support A:

Hey, love your content! Have you ever played terranigma? That's a game that wasn't released in the US but it's amazing
I have not but it's on the list!
@@PelvicGaming Awesome! Always love to hear what people think of that game since it's my favorite game of all time
The way you feel about the Blue Lions is the same way I feel about the Golden Deer
This review was HILARIOUS! Thank you Lady Pelvic!! I will rep the Black Eagle set any and EVERY DAY thoughhhh
I know nothing about this fire emblem game , but just wanted to support & I like the quirky skits btw
2:39 that deer costume looked weird. And you accidentally made the background blue instead of gold.
I thought the overall story was a little too on the nose, but the way it was fully revealed by at least 3 playthroughs was great.
Personally, i loved the Golden Deer house more because of the cast. And Manuela as my wiafu.
I initially wanted to be a blue lion, but when you made the black eagles into cool comrades you kind of left me with no choiceee
Hope to See you play Future Fire Emblem games ^-^
Tea time with Dimitri had me rolling 😂
Love the hair! Also, solid review! 😁
I've never really been a big fan of the previous Fire Emblem games and also not a fan of strategy based games but this one looks interesting
Now I want to go back! I even bought the dlc but never touched it :3 guuuurl I love your reviews! ❤
