If you point your DS to a custom DNS server then,
when your game tries to connect to the official DPP HGSS SW or SW2 servers (which are no longer in service),
it will instead be redirected to a fan hosted server.
This server hosts a GTS, online battles and all the mystery gifts that were contributed for these games.
There are attempts to recreate the dreamworld as well, but as one could guess that's rather difficult.

Seriously. The Nuzlocke community has torn into many folks for "not playing in the true and proper way", and it's refreshing to see someone who appreciates that a challenge isn't a challenge if you're not having fun.
I like the posture of "this is a self-imposed ruleset". Unless you're trying to be the best in a pool of competitive people where advantages must be equalized across the board, who cares.
Some of the best Nuzlocke reactions I've seen from Jan are to Jaiden's videos - she wouldn't have got nearly as far as she did without having items in battle, which is something the purists are dead set against

Gen 5 was my least favorite for a VERY long time. It was only earlier this year when I started to like it (mainly because the character Ingo from Legends Arceus, who is Lady Sneasler’s Warden, is FROM MODERN UNOVA. He somehow time traveled, ended up on another continent, got amnesia, and HIS TWIN BROTHER EMMET IS STILL IN MODERN UNOVA. I really like Ingo and Emmet, and I need Game Freak to reunite them. I don’t care if in the inevitable Gen 5 remakes it’s mentioned that Ingo went missing but is back by the time the game starts, or if there’s DLC for Legends Arceus where Emmet ends up in Hisui. Maybe Barry, looking for his best friend, shows up with him (IF it is canon that the protagonist of the events in the Sinnoh games is the protagonist of Legends Arceus)

First playthrough was mono-fighting type where I bred a Zen Headbutt Scraggy and backtracked from Victory Road just because using the cool legendary fighting types was the whole motivation of the run. Also caught everything exclusively in Heal Balls.
I've never ended up owning a 3DS since then, as, I'm pretty sure by the time I had enough disposable income that could be used for buying another dedicated gaming system, it went towards a Switch Lite (could be wrong about that gap, but decently sure). I'm careful with my money and refuse to ever use a credit card if I can help it. Try to always make the most of the games I care about.

My rule with Victini (and any members of legendary trios) is to do a variable level cap. Essentially, take the level cap, scale it to 87.5% (making its effective BST equal to or lower than the final Evo of the starter) and round it down. Makes it harder to use and keeps the power closer to the rest of the team.

But don't try and get all these weird thigs with the legendary, just comes off as dishonest. Either use them or don't, its your Nuzlocke, but it does feel like "oh well I have this Legendary but because of X, Y , Z, and all of that Jazz its totally ok and I don't have to feel bad for it.

@@harrisonhurst6480 To be completely honest, the main group of legendaries I try to get are the Regi trio in my Ruby Nuzlockes. It's a really fun and generally easy challenge to set up using species clause, and even if I don't end up using them on the final E4 team, it's a fun extra challenge to say that I must fight and/or capture all three before Gym 8 for the sake they can easily take out team members if I'm not careful. Besides, without Rare Candies, the variable level cap isn't to hard to really enforce. Either way, it's fun for my personak nuzlockes, so I suppose that's what's most important.

I don't even know if it's "less mean" per se. From watching so many of his reviews, Jan really respects people who play well, but more than that, he has a lot of time for people who do something stupid, get criticized for it and then learn from it, and from what I can tell here, RT has done exactly that and demonstrated it time and again.
The playing around status, the dupes clauses, the non-item use in battle, the sack plays where it's needed and necessary and so on. Those are things that a person must learn to get good at hardcore nuzlockes, and when they do it quickly and effectively (this only being RTs second Nuzlocke), Jan respects it a lot more.

It’s a lot cheaper if you use two of the same ‘mon for a nuzlocke, but replacing a buddy seems fine! This could possibly cheap as well, though, as it’s essentially using an encounter to save a Pokémon for later, while also utilizing it in a battle. Technically yes, but only if you went into the fight with the understanding that you could just get another. What Dan did was definitely a case of realizing something cheeky after he’d already been forced through a tough situation. He risked losing Excadrill with the full intent at the time to say goodbye forever, since he wasn’t aware he could guarantee another one in the future. So it’s actually not a misuse (obviously subjective) of the dupes clause, since he didn’t lose Excadrill with the initial thought that he could just abuse dupes.

The content that didn't make it to RTs video was a little unfortunately, it was more of a "Let's Play" style of video for Black and White than a Nuzlocke, so a lot of the more technical stuff from RT's twitch VODs were cut.
In the Twitch VODs he goes into more details on stuff like which abilities and natures his pokemon got (Compound Eyes on the Galvantula, and Rivarly on the Axew, etc).
He also started each gym with a plan on how he intends to tackle it. Like for the second gym, he grinded up Tranquill specifically for Detect to protect against the Retaliate.
Then he also goes into why he stopped using certain pokemon like the Victini (it was an EXP sink, and he planned to use Litwick anyways)
    that kind of stuff

"it's easy to see how mistakes snowball" -> RT immediately uses a pokemon named MISTAKE. Nice touch, Jan

Going for something like the Victini I say makes for good content as well, so attempting to catch it is the right move by me

Jan has better nails then me. I can hear my mom saying, "I asked you if you wanted your nails painted." The flashbacks.

I love that you didn’t just slate his rules the whole time and just enjoyed the run. Nice energy tbh.
