Music, particularly the piano, is a language in of itself, a language you've mastered, and as a fellow Canadian, I couldn't be more proud of you. I have a passion for the piano as well, but due to cancer at the age of 20 (I never begun playing until age 17) and the resulting treatments leaving my hands in constant pain, I'm now 47, but cancer free, so I'm living my musical ambitions vicariously through you. I've been following your growing talent for years now, and thought I'd just send a quick hello, to say congratulations on all your well deserved success, and wish you a very long, and beautiful career ahead. Amongst a plethora of young professional pianists, I like Jan Lisiecki best. No showing off or pulling faces. Above all, he actually closes his eyes and LISTENS to the music as he plays it.
Still waiting for a pianist to perform the Minute Waltz in actual waltz tempo. Someone back in time got this ugly tradition started of playing it so fast. A dance piece shouldn't be impossible to dance. Can you keep the waltz foot steps at this pace?
Chopin's waltzes (as well as mazurkas) were written specifically for the recital in salons rather than the dancefloor. The original name is "Waltz of the puppy" and Chopin got the idea while watching a little dog catching its tail. You're right, it wasn't intended to be played in a minute, but I guess a small dog can set its steps at the pace played by Jan Lisiecki.
