Agreed, and thats what he said in the video, but its the situation of both landing strikes at the perfectly same time where the muay thai theory will work.
Yes it can happen, but we're talking about inherent advantages of one over the other when the condition he mentioned are true. What you're mostly seeing that makes you think you're right is cases where one is in range and the other isn't OR they aren't thrown at approximately the same time.
I'm pretty sure u have it mixed up a bit... I am almost positive it's: - Kick beats Punch (all thai favor kicks to punch ((Ref: Changpuek vs Ruffus)) - Elbow beats Kick; - Knee beats Elbow - Teep beats Knee (or Teep beats them all)
I dig it. My MMA coach drills us with little things like this all the time. Counters, keep your defense whilst throwing, and being the one who ups the game by defeating our opponent's strikes with a proper response. He told us something today that I love: "Be first and third." Meaning be the one who starts the exchange, and the one who ends it.
Late to the party. I watched that fight after seeing this video for the first time, and you picked a fantastic match. I'd love to see your breakdown of that fight: where each fighter got it right, and where they got it wrong.
I think this might be the true meaning of the phrases Wing Chun counterpart "kicks above the hip destabilize you": kicks are riskier than punches, so chances are the punch wins (instead of "never kick", which is how the phrase is usually interpreted)
I will wait for the video about " THE TEEP BEATS ALL" definitely. I will leave this world unhappily if I can't watch that video. Everyone, pleaseee like / share / subscribe for our man Shayne talking about this powerful but simple technique.
Something i do to against someone good at counters is either use a sneaky front leg that is close to him and suddenly full weight back and the kick lands... Or...kick but pulling back so i can still kick with distance but i create enough immediate distance so that the punches cant reach 😁
Shane, would you say TJ is the best MMA striker of all time? Below average range & height even for his division, average power and speed but he strikes masterfully still. All the other "great" strikers have very long arms and unbelievable power.
I read something similar online called the old Muay Thai formula It’s the same strategy but in reverse U said punch beats kick but the formula says a punch always loses to a kick, kick lose to knee and so forth. I wanted to know how they relate
I'm not sure I buy kicks beating knees when the conditions hold. Who throws kicks from knee range? I do love the "teep beats all" though I'm definitely quoting that for my class.
No, this just an example if punch beating kicks. Good kickers like the names you mentioned made a career out of kicking forearms to shut down big punchers. This rock paper scissors metaphor is more so a tip for dealing with certain styles. Hope this makes sense!
"Effective striking" is mostly scored based upon its effects. So if a match is even and you throw a kick that lands flush on the ribs, disrupting your opponents balance, and you remained balanced the whole time, you have taken the lead. Keeping the hands up wouldn't take away from points. But if you fell backwards while throwing it, from a punch that your opponent hit you with on your arm, the judges may give that point to your opponent, even if your kick landed.
That's kind of the point! The theory should force you think critically -- use certain techniques to shut down your opponents attacks, while considering what they can also use against you.
This video is so well put together. Love to see FightTips still going strong
Any strike can beat any other strike with correct timing
Agreed, and thats what he said in the video, but its the situation of both landing strikes at the perfectly same time where the muay thai theory will work.
And everyone is special in their own way
god your so wise
@@tasmaikeni369Not landing at the same time, thrown at the same time and both in range to land.

When I briefly trained in Thailand I was told to use the teep to basically counter everything, which showed me just how useful that strike is.
0:43 that green screen was dope 😂😂😂😂
Looking forward for that Shane Fazen vs Fane Shazen fight!!!!
Not a green screen but yeah the editing was dope
It was most definitely a green screen. And my money is on Shazen!
"Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself!
Love the technique, timing, precision, consistency, staying focus & sharp, distance!!! Great video of Muay Thai + Kickboxing!!! Thanks Shane!!! 😁🙏
This is actually a very good analogy to understand striking options, countering as well as range timing
This is such a good video. Ive been with fight tips since 2017 i love seeing the growth.
Love these videos bro thanks for making them
Hey thanks, Max!
Without a mountain of context most theories fall apart completely.

Love it! The parameters are so important for measuring techniques
been watching your vidoes for 5 years now, thank you for everything brother.
Ayyy I like when Sylvie gets recognition 😏
Thank you!
I was just stunned and amazed by those punching edits :'D
Thank You Shane! This video is amazing!
Thank you, Julio 🙏 Happy to help!
Dieselnoi, clinch, and knee beats all
Boy he swung that arm down which definitely made that hook more effective when dude kicked.
1:44 in this case Punch beats knee as well they can collide like elbow beats kick as well

TEEP FTW! Thanks for the great video, Shane!
Some pretty damn good editing here

Dude that editing was so hot, also thx for info as well.
Appreciate it! I hustled on this one. I think this would be a cool series to continue exploring, what ya think?
@@fighttips yeshhh please

Nice to see Shane channel Ryan George. ;-)

Editing is getting good man also another banger vid as always
Definitely should make a Rock Paper Scissors series
so practical, and common sense (which many of us don't)
I need all of these
Kick beats Punch
Elbow beats Kick
Knee beats Elbow
Teep beats Knee
or
Teep beats 'Them All'
sick editing!
Beautiful video. Thanks. It’s very informative.

Shane demonstrating with the help of Shane is really a good idea.👏👏👏😂

Except Yan.
Elbows number 1!!!!
Shane is there any chance that you could do the tutorial technique lesson video on a New speed bag?? 😁🐺🙏
Rock paper scissors lizard Spock
I read something similar online called the old Muay Thai formula
It’s the same strategy but in reverse
U said punch beats kick but the formula says a punch always loses to a kick, kick lose to knee and so forth. I wanted to know how they relate
Statements like always and never are usually wrong
Rock, paper and scissors then a Dieselnoi shows up. 😂
I'm not sure I buy kicks beating knees when the conditions hold. Who throws kicks from knee range? I do love the "teep beats all" though I'm definitely quoting that for my class.
Thanks for the video! This is a great explanation of the "rock-paper-scissors" theory in muay Thai.
Hey Shane you got any tips for muay thai fighters trying get to big promotions, or is it a waste of time now days for American thai fighters?
Lead leg side kick > Teep
😲
Shane.Does punching really beat kicks??? (Especially if you consider left kickers like buakaw, yod, and samkor)
No, this just an example if punch beating kicks. Good kickers like the names you mentioned made a career out of kicking forearms to shut down big punchers.
This rock paper scissors metaphor is more so a tip for dealing with certain styles.
Hope this makes sense!
Some people still think that you just said that left hook Always beats left kick. 🤣
Hello i wanted to know the most painfull parts to press on human hand
Whoever said punch beats kick y’all clearly never taken a liver shot
Hands protecting head when kicking isn’t proper Muay Thai form though.
So do we break form?
I am new so does that affect points or rules?
"Effective striking" is mostly scored based upon its effects. So if a match is even and you throw a kick that lands flush on the ribs, disrupting your opponents balance, and you remained balanced the whole time, you have taken the lead.

With all of these addendums, it sounds like the whole theory is bullshit. Punch beats kick--unless...
That's kind of the point! The theory should force you think critically -- use certain techniques to shut down your opponents attacks, while considering what they can also use against you.
@@fighttips that's just fighting in general though, isn't it? It's all problem solving. This just seems like training with extra steps

Only took about 20 years to convince him to be in a video 🙄
