My God!!! He did that while laughing and having fun. One of the baddest dudes to ever walk this earth. I’m starting to feel that Prince might of been the greatest musician ever.
I saw Prince twice, 20 years apart, and this is a tiny man, with a giant presence and an extreme amount of sex appeal and charisma!! While indeed he had dialed down the raucousness of his performance, he never missed a beat. He was indeed a very rare and very special talent.
@@sheldontapp3769 I had a friend who also worked at his club in LA and Prince would put on all kinds of live performances, all the time but he wouldn't announce where the show would be until a hour before and only select people would know about it or get an invite. There is zero reason to think that Adrian S is lying about it.
Oh, dear Prince. A light is missing in the world without you in it. What I love about this tribute is the respect paid to the original song and GH's vision of it. Prince doesnt make it his, he elevates it without ever losing respect for the original. It's beautiful. And yes, of course these are all incredible musicians . What an amazing performance!
And unperturbedly still playing DURING the trust fall, which he'd done numerous times on talk shows. Prince was famous for his sense of humor and showmanship.
The greatest compliment anyone could give this performance is that prince not only outshines some truly great musicians on this stage, but his solo puts Clapton’s solo in the shade. I can not think of how this can be bettered. A definition of how to both raise the bar and create history.
Not really fair to compare Prince in 2004 to Clapton in 1968. You don't think Prince listened to Cream and Derek and the Dominoes until he could play every lead guitar note? That's what I hear! When Clapton played that solo originally, there were not a handful of guitarists in the world who could have done as well, never mind better. Hell, give Marc Mann kudos for a great cover of what Clapton played, in front of the world, with three R&R HOF members on stage!
@matthewphilip1977 Obviously your medication has kicked in. I'm a true Eric Clapton fan, but we have to put our personal opinions aside to speak truth. If Clapton lived to be 246 years old, spent the next 72 years studying music and learning everything from Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix to Jeff Beck and Eddie Van Halen, he still couldn't even come remotely close to Prince in guitar mastery. That much should be obvious. While everyone else learned how to play guitar, Prince plays as if he invented the guitar and figured out a way to fuse it into his body. He doesn't "play" the guitar... he "BECOMES" the guitar.
@chris franco I also enjoy watching Prince covering Creep. Very few to just a couple videos of him at Coachella. Surely one of his finest performances.
Dhani is the spitting image of George, Tom has the perfect voice for this song, Jeff has perfect control over the guitar runs and Prince show why he was arguably on of the greatest guitarists of all time. Fantastic performance.
Have watched another version of this performance. I love that Prince turned and smiled at Petty or someone in the middle. Dhani's face beaming at Prince, looking so much like his dad, brings tears. Thank you for this phenomenal piece of music history.
@@John-ik2eg what? I didn't pick up on any animosity there. It was a bunch of top shelf artists honoring another. Prince looked fine and appeared at ease. I don't know maybe my eyes are failing me.
@@John-ik2eg BTW I don't see anyone as showboats when it came to the beatles. Sure not as many of George's songs didn't make albums that's obvious. The upside for George in that respect was that he had lots of fished songs on the shelf. If you check he outsold Paul & John combined the first year or so after the split. He didn't have to share the profits either. Things have a way of working out.
Jeff Beck passed today. I’m doing a deep dive on all my fave guitar players/solos songs. Prince steals the show. Like he did always. I love how he does what only he does then just throws his guitar up in the air. And walks away. Legends all of them. So grateful I can watch this a gazillion times.
He also randomly leaned back and was pushed back up. That was obviously set up. I love Prince. I'm from Minneapolis. I had the pleasure of taking a pee next to Prince at a Bajork show at First Ave.
Prince was a musical genius, a master of his art, He could play the guitar like it was an extension of his heart, With every strum and every note, he'd make us feel, His music was a gift, one that was real. He'd play "Purple Rain" and we'd feel the emotion, His voice, a powerful wave, a sonic devotion, And when he'd sing "Kiss," it was pure magic, We'd move to the beat, our feet, completely tragic. His energy was contagious, his charisma was rare, He'd have us all jumping, dancing, without a care, And as he played "1999," we knew we were in for a treat, All the while, my guitar gently weeps. In his hands, the guitar was a work of art, A tool for his expression, a world set apart, His fingers moved with grace, with every chord, His music, a testament, to the power of the Lord. And now, as we remember his legacy, We see the mark he's left, his music, a guarantee, That his soul still lives on, in the music he keeps, Forever playing, my guitar gently weeps.
What a class act Prince was. Waiting in the shadows to not garner too much attention, then coming out and killing it. I like him and Tom Petty riffing off of each other, Dhani obviously ecstatic to watch, and how he throws the guitar and just struts off stage. Never knew he was so good at guitar.
@@erichinton5774 because he did. Prince had a falling out with the producers about the direction of this song. They cut his solo and tried to eliminate him from the show entirely. That's why the camera never showed him and he didn't have a spotlight. He wasn't supposed to have a solo at all. He talked about it with Dhani before and Dhani gave him the green light to tear it up. He was the only one that knew it was coming. That's really what makes this performance by Prince so legendary. Straight up gangster.
This performance is absolutely riveting. My favorite George Harrison song, imbued with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne on vocals, and the fire breathing, blazing guitar solo from Prince. Pure magic...
In your FACE! As Prince tells biased Rolling Stone/Hall of Shame. " EAT THIS"! 👏👏👏 My God this man was so talented with the soul of Hendrix, one of the top, if NOT the top multi- instrument geniuses of our time~ R.I.P. Sweet Prince~
Tim Buttrum I saw that RRHOF induction ceremony on TV in 2004. It was an all-star line-up. Everybody was jamming. I thought it was great and then came Prince. He blew me away. Wasn't expecting it at all. He stole the show. I knew he was a multi talented musician who could play multi instruments and I admired that, but after seeing that performance and hearing those ripping solos, I had a new respect for the man. So, yes, I agree, Prince was underrated. RIP Purple One
Jeff Lynne has to be one best kept secrets of Rock. Not diminishing his accomplishments, just that many of them have gone largely unnoticed. I didn't really become aware of him until the Wilburys, and then I later find out he was working with the Beatles on Free as a Bird. It's crazy. Dude is awesome.
Five decades after listening to them for the first time, and ELO is still a top band for me. In fact, I appreciate them even more now than then. I'm embarrassed and ashamed to say that I was not a Prince fan. Well, not until I saw this video. Then it was an orgy of taking his discography from the very first to the last, along with the feast of his live performances. What a force - he was just made of music.
I agree with you Marian. After watching the live tribute to George Harrison and seeing the video, I lost respect for Prince and others also agree with me. Prince, made this about himself instead of G.H. Prince, was showboating while G.H.’s friends and son was putting on a tribute show in memory of George Harrison.

One of the great moments in Rock history! I'll just add to all the great comments that I get such a chuckle out of watching how it takes all the other luminaries a while before they realize what Prince is doing! Not just taking a solo, but burning the effing house down! Does my old heart a world of good!
I've read somewhere that Prince wanted his performances on this night deleted off the internet. I am so very happy to come across this performance. This is by far the best solo I've ever heard. This shows how genius Prince was musically.

Glorious tribute to George. The band stayed faithful to each note of each part of the original recording on the White Album, including whoever that is getting Clapton's original lead note for note, with Tom's voice hauntingly identical to George and Jeff Lynne also getting the nuances of every note of George's vocal in the original White Album recording. Then Prince did for this rendition what Clapton did for original White Album recording; Prince elevated the song to the heavens. For the original recording on the White Album, George knew he wouldn't get what Clapton could get out of the lead, so George knew for the good of the song he needed Clapton to add his blues ouevre to the song with stellar results. Similiarly here, whoever was in charge of getting the arrangement so faithfully reproduced (probably Tom P - The Heartbreakers did many covers note for note live in their concerts) knew an extra touch was needed, and Prince was perfect to add the extra something that eleveated this rendition to a transcendental level, which George could, and his spirit undoubltedly did, appreciate fully. George was in the room for this rendtion too. I also hope someone has the presence of mind to be going thorugh ALL of Prince's recoridings at Paisley Park, including jam sessions. There has to be unreleased guirtar work, especially during jam sessions, that is jaw dropping, and will add even more appreciation to Prince's already burgeoning legacy.
@@ethandoesmusic Thanks for identifying him for me. He doesn't as n outstanding job with Clapton's parts. It adds to how complete this rendition is, and sets up Prince to add new lines.

Every goddamn time I watch this I am awestruck. Every. Damn. Time. Prince - a master at showmanship and performance. RIP.
So far about 50, 60, 80 times... Now I'm just getting past the guitar skills and am now in awe at the showmanship. I always knew he was an unusually talented guy, but here... he's a legend.
Absolutely epic. Where does his guitar to at the end though😂
Yes! Not just Prince, but everyone to me…different genres coming together to pay tribute to the quiet, amazing Beatle ♥️
Absolutely obsessed with this performance. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it. Prince absolutely smashed it out of the park. Miss him and his amazing music.
Brilliant performance from first to last sec
Me too - and it NEVER gets old
My God!!! He did that while laughing and having fun. One of the baddest dudes to ever walk this earth. I’m starting to feel that Prince might of been the greatest musician ever.
He was
Welcome to the club of those who know he truly was.
In rock and roll, he is legend
Your right
It’s a given. He was not of this world
I worked for Prince at Glam Slam LA. Saw him perform 6 times. One of the rarest talents ever. Amazing!
I saw Prince twice, 20 years apart, and this is a tiny man, with a giant presence and an extreme amount of sex appeal and charisma!! While indeed he had dialed down the raucousness of his performance, he never missed a beat. He was indeed a very rare and very special talent.
You never worked for him. Why say that?
@@sheldontapp3769 I had a friend who also worked at his club in LA and Prince would put on all kinds of live performances, all the time but he wouldn't announce where the show would be until a hour before and only select people would know about it or get an invite. There is zero reason to think that Adrian S is lying about it.
That’s so cool! Would’ve loved to have been one of his groupies! 😜 but kinda true…
I may have posted before, but Prince was thirty feet tall when he left the stage. What talent, unique. Mystical performances are not every day.
WOW!!!!!! SPECTACULAR!!! Prince handled a guitar like it was another extremity he was born with!!!! A true musical genius gone way too soon!!
I weep when I think of what the world has lost and what might have been.
Yeah its unreal
@@robertdickerson2821 Yes. Prince, Jimi and George Harrison, gone way too soon.
Any guitar player that does a trust fall while playing a solo is hands down the greatest of all time!
Everything about this is legendary, the faces, the solo, falling into the crowd....I'm sorry what!!!!!
I read that Clapton was asked what it was like to be the greatest guitarist of all time and he said - I don’t know, you’d have to ask Prince.
I’m not sure if I’d say outshines, bc they’re such different genres. Can’t really compare. Prince is one of the best at his though!
@@melissaslater2575 I think it was actually Jimi Hendrix asked and he replied I don't know ask Rory Gallagher
I remember being blown away with Prince guitar playing when he covered Creep at Coachella. That man had some insane talent. RIP
@chris franco I also enjoy watching Prince covering Creep. Very few to just a couple videos of him at Coachella. Surely one of his finest performances.
I saw him in 1983 and he was and is a musical genius
I wish we could bring them back💔 So glad we have these videos ❤❤❤
Dhani is the spitting image of George, Tom has the perfect voice for this song, Jeff has perfect control over the guitar runs and Prince show why he was arguably on of the greatest guitarists of all time. Fantastic performance.
The best
Jeff's voice - PLEASE 🙏❤❤❤❤❤
Have watched another version of this performance. I love that Prince turned and smiled at Petty or someone in the middle. Dhani's face beaming at Prince, looking so much like his dad, brings tears. Thank you for this phenomenal piece of music history.
80 yr. Old mom and grandma of 3 bass players ..this is the best..chillz abound
RIP
Even in this cut, Dhani gives a smile to Prince before Prince starts to play. And then he just shreds it.
I think Dhani felt honored to be amongst greatness. Petty, Lynne, and Prince... Oh yeah.
The ultimate music video of the 20th century☮️
Prince's soloing abilities are beyond this planet, Not many in his frequency.
Out of this world for sure
I agree. He sure is missed.

Yea, I heard he was pretty good...😉
Maybe hendrix..Definitely Hendrix
Jeff Beck passed today. I’m doing a deep dive on all my fave guitar players/solos songs. Prince steals the show. Like he did always. I love how he does what only he does then just throws his guitar up in the air. And walks away. Legends all of them. So grateful I can watch this a gazillion times.
I want to know who caught that guitar.
He also randomly leaned back and was pushed back up. That was obviously set up. I love Prince. I'm from Minneapolis. I had the pleasure of taking a pee next to Prince at a Bajork show at First Ave.
Prince was a musical genius, a master of his art,
He could play the guitar like it was an extension of his heart,
With every strum and every note, he'd make us feel,
His music was a gift, one that was real.
He'd play "Purple Rain" and we'd feel the emotion,
His voice, a powerful wave, a sonic devotion,
And when he'd sing "Kiss," it was pure magic,
We'd move to the beat, our feet, completely tragic.
His energy was contagious, his charisma was rare,
He'd have us all jumping, dancing, without a care,
And as he played "1999," we knew we were in for a treat,
All the while, my guitar gently weeps.
In his hands, the guitar was a work of art,
A tool for his expression, a world set apart,
His fingers moved with grace, with every chord,
His music, a testament, to the power of the Lord.
And now, as we remember his legacy,
We see the mark he's left, his music, a guarantee,
That his soul still lives on, in the music he keeps,
Forever playing, my guitar gently weeps.
Amen Brother!

Hard to believe these masters of their craft have passed on. Very few of today's performers have the sheer stage presence that these guys had.
One of the very best performances EVER. Prince was another 1 in a million musicians who can never be replaced. Incredible.
Prince is the king of the guitar give him all the accolades because he deserves them
Prince is one of the greatest musicians of all time in the modern era RIP in peace to an iconic inspiration to all.
When asked what it felt like to be the best living guitarist, Clapton replied "I don't know, you'll have to ask Prince".
Not true. It’s been disproven. Prince is still the most underrated guitarist of the 20th century
Yeah that's a plagiarized quip of somebody asking Jimi what's it's like to be the greatest guitarist. He responds "Ask Charlie Christian".

@@ConcertFootageNate well put
Even with as much as he accomplish during his life I still think prince is underrated
Yes definitely
He's Amazing so enjoy the sound and Preformers!!! WONDERFUL.

I saw that RRHOF induction ceremony on TV in 2004.
Well loved talent. No needed to say underrated other than your desire.
Meh
Jeff Lynne has to be one best kept secrets of Rock. Not diminishing his accomplishments, just that many of them have gone largely unnoticed. I didn't really become aware of him until the Wilburys, and then I later find out he was working with the Beatles on Free as a Bird. It's crazy. Dude is awesome.
Jeff Lynne is forever an underrated Musician. So talented
Five decades after listening to them for the first time, and ELO is still a top band for me. In fact, I appreciate them even more now than then.
You are not alone: the following excerpt from Wikipedia may explain why many (me included) feel this way. According to music journalist Simon Price, ELO was
"arguably the most uncool, even defiantly anti-cool, of the lot and have been the slowest to be rehabilitated since ... "
@@GlimmerOfLight I saw them in 1976 in St Petersburg FL, very small venue. Almost fainted it was so packed & hot. Have no idea how they performed so well in the heat. Amazing
Frontman for ELO to this day. They still sound awesome. Saw them in '19.
Completely. Jeff Lynne is the amazingly talented guy that even the Beatles think is cool, but he's so underated. ELO are awesome.
Prince's solo in this is just insane. I could watch it over and over. So tragic to lose him so young.
One of the coolest guys to ever walk the planet and possibly one of the most underrated guitarists
not really underrated though. Everyone kinda knows Prince was a badass on a guitar.
Eric Clapton once called Prince the best guitars in the world
I'm embarrassed and ashamed to say that I was not a Prince fan.

The legend says that the guitar is still floating towards Mars because that solo was out of this world.
Beautifully performed by Petty, Lynne, Winwood...then taken to a whole other level by Prince. Stupendous!
