Good day! What do you think about Fossi devices? Another thing I wanted to ask you. Is it true that Fossi devices can match the PP quality of devices that cost $1000 and up? For example to compete with devices such as McIntosh, QUAD, Pioneer?

an important concept is that of the preamp and in particular its gain and quality. I tested the A07 max on my arcam avr 550 then on my emotiva mc1. the Emotiva has more gain and the sound is more transparent and clear. In other words, the right combination changes the situation and the Aiyima/Emotiva result is stunning. certain that the break-in, in addition, will further improve listening... a revelation. So don't judge too quickly...

I have the A07 mono setup, and the Fosi V3... Waiting on my ZA3 monos... 48v power supplies... I hear the same with the Aiyima's and the Fosi V3, identical findings here. The Fosi is more A/B, vs the more analytical A07, and neither have that Class D dryness with my preamp and speakers. The A07 in my system still had that A/B sound, and I am very impressed with both amps. They both have their own sound, or the way they translate the bits to music. The A07 is punchy, the V3 is a tad bit nicer in the midrange and top end. But not by much, not much at all. I could live with either in my system.
Then the Sparkos, the midrange became very muddy and veiled in the V3. I have yet to install the Sparkos in the A07. Going to do that this weekend. I also purchased a Wolfson DAC, and want to try that with these units. Currently I am using a PS Audio Gaincell DAC/Preamp, which sounds fantastic when paired with my Zu DW6 Supreme speakers.
For the money, with good gear and speakers, these stupid little amps will knock your socks off. I wish they made these without the volume knob, just a straight out amplifier, and a real sub output. They do that, they will be creating a shitstorm in the HiFi industry. Yes, they sound that good.

Your conclusion is spot on. However, it’s difficult to choose one over the other as the differences vary depending on the genera of music you’re playing. The Fosi sometimes felt a bit constrained. Hard to choose one above the other.

Thank you for the informative videos. I have listened to this and other comparisons multiple times. In my opinion you are a fan of vocal’s hence you like the pronounced vocal reproduction by Fosi ZA3 and Gryphon amps. But to my liking it is tad more than I like, during long listening sessions this vocal bump will lead to listening fatigue. On the other hand the Aiyima A07 and Dan Dagostino have more natural reproduction of vocal’s like tube amplifier (I still use tube pre and power), and also has better instrument separation and better sound stage. I still prefer the Eversolo amp for its refinements and compatibility with my Eversolo DMP A6 ME. Please note most of the tubes come from Russia and it is getting ridiculously expensive to replace tubes for power amps, hence the second system set up for time being. But I will use my Terminator 2 for DAC and Audio Research Ref6 line stage to add holographic tube flavour and let the Eversolo amp on mono setup to do the amplification.

I tested in stereo and mono mode and I didn't find much difference. Little extra power, this certainly because the excess power in mono mode is absorbed by the impedance divided by 2 and therefore requires... more power. Choosing a quality and powerful power supply seems to me to be a better solution. I ordered an aiyima 48v 10A Gan to compare with my 48v 5A but unfortunately received a 48v 5A! So I recommend one, hoping for the right one because the 5A is a bit tight for my 87db speakers!

I have increased the filtering caps to 4870 uF per channel, upgraded the speaker binding posts, put in Class-A Op-Amps with 200 mA of maximum current capacity and upgraded the WIMA caps. don't underestimate the output filter!!!! core inductors are expensive and have a saturation that kicks in gradually at a certain power level. there is not a hard limit regarding their magnetic saturation. that means if one wants to avoid even low levels of saturation the inductor needs to be a bigger more expensive one that is rated for more power and has a lower inner resistance at 0Hz.
don't forget, the inductors are probably the most expensive parts in the whole amp. (except after market discrete opamps).
texas instruments recommends the real high quality inductors from coilcraft and i found some good ones from würth too. but so far, from what i saw from pictures from fosi and aiyima, they use a smaller cheaper one, maybe a chinese brand, i don't know.
this could be one reason why one amp sounds more analog than the other. the same goes for the capacitors in that filter stage. they need to have low esr in high frequencies to get rid of the switching ripple together with the inductors.
one would say that he does not care because the speakers do not react to switching frequencies around 300kHz. but actually that is not the case. there can be parts in the passive speaker that could pick up that high frequency and produce some intermodulation distortion that can be mirrored down to the audible part of the spectrum. like binding posts that have ferromagnetic materials in it and start to vibrate at the switching frequency and modulating the audible signal (intermodulation distortion) and create kind of hiss when there should be clean frequencies coming out of the tweeter.
      regarding the power supply:
for comparison it should be an identical power supply. and this is also a point of optimization. these power supplies come with a certain switching noise as well. they are never perfect. that means, an additional two stage L-C filter could deliver a better performance and also a bit more of an analog sound. if you can hear a big difference in a single amp stereo and a dual mono amp setup, then you see/hear, that the power supply is weak and the bad channel separation is a consequence of it.

I prefer the slightly warmer presentation with more immersive bottom end of the Fosi, despite the airiness and wider sounding soundstage of the Aiyiama. For this kind of music the Fosi was usually better. Going to give the z3 a run as a channel in my 16 channel set up. My current power amp ran out of channels, and I've ran out of speakers, can't afford another 2000 power amp at the moment so the z3 and a pair of Kanto passive speakers, will do the trick for a experience with another added surround channel. Not going to even bother trying these on my fronts, seems a bit silly, but my curiosity is going to kill me if I don't try these Chinese amps out. Can't put down Chinese amps, I use tonewinner, and must say, the power amps are great ! And not many put down emotiva? I'm not about to blow 5000-10,000 on a power amp ! can you please open them and compare the parts in the output filter stage. the quality and size of the inductors and foil capacitors can make a huge difference when it comes to an analog or digital sound. smaller coils (if made from the same material) can have a lower saturation threshold. that means the saturation level starts at lower power and that might give you the unpleasant 'digital' sound.
beside that i am positively surprised about the better dynamic and more detailed sound of the aiyima. could be a better power supply also.

Thanks to the 4K / AAC 192 kbps video and the excellent recording it is very easy to detect the differences. Fosi ZA3 mono offers a more realistic, euphonious, engaging sound. Aiyima 07 MAX mono, on the other hand, has a sterile sound, more detailed and open, typical of the vast majority of class D.
    BUT BUT BUT
👉13:50 - Air on the G String - Johannes Bornlof
A DISASTER, both of them with that recording. These CHEAP IMPLEMENTATIONS of the TPA3255 without FPPB are for maximum operation at 5 watts, or even less. As soon as the power increases, the sound deteriorates (and the measurements too).
What I am saying in my X/Twitter threads regarding your reviews is confirmed: appropriate for sensitive loudspeakers, 89 dB / 4 Ohms (like your Qualio IQ) if commercial music with DR < or 12 dB. Tracks with 15 dB or more.

However, I'm not as impressed as you seem to be ;) The thing that bothers me most is that the amps produce audible hiss / white noise, even though my speakers (Wharfedale Lintons) are not very sensitive. It goes away when I turn the volume down to about 6 o'clock on the amp, but since there is no scale around the volume knob, I am not able to precisely level both channels - the only way to do it is to crank the volume to the max. As far as I understand, this is also the only way to utilize the full power of the amp. Do you have any remedy for that? :)

My speakers are similar to yours in concept, but i have a planar instead of AMT and a bit smaller woofer, however in 100% plywood cabinet built like a german tank. This system even without a DAC beats the hell out of ALL models i've heard in audio stores, incl Focals for $25k.,sonus fabers, Dalis, etc. with 20x more expensive amps. Maybe because my system is active crossover, without capacitors? hornlike dynamics with OB space and bass *ALMOST* like Wilsons

What would your thoughts be on utilizing either (or neither!) of these to drive a 250W 12" subwoofer? I have a powered sub with a failed amplifier, don't want to spend a ton of money on it, so it's either a replacement plate-style amp (which involves modification of the enclosure) or simply plugging one of these in. The pre-amp is all handled by the AV Receiver.

    • @VirtualHiFi
      @VirtualHiFi  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It should do ok, but it all depends on the driver you have in the sub if it's 4 ohms it's fine but some subs can be 2 ohms or lower and for them you will have better results with dedicated sub Amps that can survive such load.

That would make a heck of a difference. Specs from Chinese are non-sense. How can you get 600 watts from 36 Volts power supply when in theory, it can achieve only 216 watts ?

If it were just an audio from a single amplifier with nothing else, yes, it wouldn't make any sense.
But the test compares two different sources, and considering it's a recording played back on your equipment and it's compressed, a comparison between them can indeed be made; it's the brain's capability.
If you're unable to distinguish, I invite you to open your mind and train your ear a bit, but certainly coming here to say that it's useless serves no purpose at all!
