  • Which one of these planes do you like more? Write it in the comments. In addition to that please tell me which planes I should compare next. You can vote in the comment section by writing "744" or "748".
"Versus" is back. Someone came up with the idea to compare the Boeing 747-400 with the B747-8. The classic 747-400 with its characterisitc winglets versus the modern Boeing 747-8 which is still in production.
The Boeing 747-400 entered service in 1988 and a total of 694 airframes have been produced. Northwest Airlines first placed the 747-400 in commercial service in February 9, 1989. The 747-400 was produced in passenger (−400), freighter (−400F), combi (−400M), domestic (−400D), extended range passenger (−400ER) and extended range freighter (−400ERF) versions. The last 747−400, a -400ERF, was delivered in 2009. The 747-400 is the second-most recent version of the Boeing 747 family, having been superseded by the improved Boeing 747-8,
The first Boeing 747-8 was delivered to Lufthansa in 2012. It` s not as successful as its predecessor cause of increased competition of other long haul aircrafts like the B777, A380 and A340. Since 2012 only 110 B747-8 have been delivered.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Boeing 747- 400, The 747-8 is just an extension of this beauty. She is still "Queen of the skies" in my opinion. I believe that the 747 is the best looking large aircraft ever built.

The 747-8 in retro Lufty colours is THE most beautiful/awesome passenger jet in the air, as of March 10, 2017.........in my opinion.

turbofanlover Agreed Whiteman, you speak not with forked tongue, but true like arrow. I love the Korean Airlines -8 that blue, close to KLM blue looks incredible, especially on the 747-8 or even the previously flown MD-11. The LH football/World Cup special looked pretty sweet to.I CAN't see any radical changes like the introduction of the 747-100 in my lifetime. Boeing got the design so perfect, beautiful lines, the aircraft did not have that *utilitarian look, it was pure art in motion.
*Yes, I be talkin' about you A-380 a flying brick style wise. Let's loan Lockheed 15-20 billion to dream up a composite bodied, upgraded L-1011 and get the company back into the passenger business.

You, too, speak not with forked tongue, but true like arrow. ;) Yup.......the 747 sure has had an absolutely amazing run........and even after all these years, the old girl is still the one and only "Queen of the Skies", IMO......in terms of pure visual appeal, anyway.

Really loved that Wamos Air 747 because it's an ex Air New Zealand 744 ZK-NBV. For me personally while the 747-8 looks more modern and pretty I still prefer the 747-400 because of the Engine variety they had. The sound it makes on takeoff and the beautiful looking WLs. My vote is the 747-400

Actually, I think the 740-400 and 747-8 are basically the same except for the winglets in which the 747-8 has none. The only other factors are the four jet engines - the 747-400 mostly has Pratt & Whitney motors except for British Airways which have Rolls-Royce motors while the 747-8 has General Electric motors.

To connect to my China flights, did this four years straight. Before the 747-300 SP, we would have to fly to Hawaii then to Midway, then the Philippines was a long 17 hours. The 747-300 SP cut our flight time by about 9 hours.

My vote is for the 748. they have the new & improved GE engines, the scalloped engine exhausts, the faired winglets & other technical advances from the 787 program. The cargo capacity of the 748 is larger than the 744. Since I'm a retired Boeing employee (1966-1995) I certainly feel ALL Boeing aircraft are GRRR8 (I actually purchased many structural & other functional components of ALL commercial models 707 thru 747-400) ..but I am disappointed in the overall diminished sales of the 747-8. This model certainly exemplifies Boeing's intent to continually produce aircraft that meets w/the technical advances of the industry.

The 747-400 is just an overdosed machine that can take off in only ten seconds even with a heavy load. It can be operated in little airports where an A320 is just a feather blown by the breeze. But the 747-8 mixes the even more overdosed 777-like engines with a more massive body, sleeker wings and an awesome roar. I stay with both. Fidelis ad Regina! (I know I said it badly)

Yup he's right, the aircraft known as Air Force One, although any aircraft the president happens to be flying in is officially labeled Air Force One, is a -200 series 747. I know it's so hard to believe but it's true that there has never been a retirement schedule for the 2 747's called AF1. Before the -200 AF1 was a 707 through Ronald Reagan's presidency. Next up a brand spanking new AirBus 380 for the president, not likely, a 787-10, 777X, or 747-8 likely but they had better hurry. The -8 is down to one per month.

Bobby Paluga It would never be an AirBus product. The President would not fly a non-US made plane, plus the government cannot buy an import.

B-747-8-I or -F-, is far more superior to the 747-400. Boeing made wholesale changes for a complete upgrade, and not just of the engines or the wings design. The total fuselage is longer, and the second level cabin is also longer. Brand new 'state of the art' avionics throughout, and most likely, the last upgrade to the 747, we'll ever witness. As the 747, in passenger service goes, so eventually, the Airbus A-380-800 will follow, because the A-380, was never engineered for manufactured for use as a freight/cargo carrier.

during its lifetime a 747 has practically all components exchanged with newest state of the technology. So it is difficult to say whether one model is antiqued and another 747 is better?

The look of boeing 747-400 or 747-8 is more beautiful and has own posture, handsome, macho than A380 even though it's a new type and more less consumption fuel aircraft

I am so confused by the subtitles/roof lines. Subtitles show 747-400 with a long and short(3 window) roof line. Also, same thing for the 747-8. Do both models have the short & long roof lines. The short roof line looks like the original 747-100 roof line. Please advise.

The short roof lines ones are for cargo ones. The long roofs lines are for passenger ones. Hopefully, this helped :D... *Or I am dumb*
