Great looking Bo and nothing wrong with over maintaining a machine that keeps you and the fam alive.
Just came across your vid and thanks, as an IA from a school that has F33A's I learned something new with the exh. springs on the cowl flap bolts Thanks :) One thing to note on the brass throttle arms on mixture and throttle, in my experience on factory engines they will be loose again on serrations after the first 100 hrs and need to be torqued up again, once that is done they stay tight, no fault of the mechanic, there is even a tag warning about torquing when new. Nose gear pushpull tube rod ends are the weak point for wear and we also use the 2000 hr recommendation for replacement.
Great points. There is a mandatory service bulletin on these brass arms. I had them replaced shortly after buying the plane for the stainless steel ones which is said will not exhibit this issue (tougher material). I also had all of the landing gear rod ends replaced with new.
@@BonanzaBart Thanks, you have a good plane and should last a long time, ( some other things) the landing gear on our planes sometimes get cycled 13 times an hr on touch and goes :/ and hold up very well, the 4 transmission bolts that hold it in need to be tight as well otherwise expense and time will need to be spent rebushing the hogged out holes. The gear motor brushes surprisingly last a very long time 2000 hrs and maybe even up to 3000 hrs but we haven't pushed it that far. If the gear works and is rigged it will keep the plane out of the junkyard, good work and best of luck.

Beautiful paint. Think about getting a roll around cart to place tools, gill panels and such instead of the wings. That's a bad habit. Glad to see you taking the time to do some maintenance personally as it gives you a better perspective during preflight inspections. I'm up in Elkhart, 3C1 on the South side of town.
William Langford Good point about the cart. I fly to KEKM occasionally as my relatives live there.
Maybe he can get a carpet like the ones that car mechanics like to use on the sides of the engine cavity when they pop the hood to work on the car. They can protect your paint from scratches and grease if you still keep putting things on the wings. But getting the roll cart is in fact a better option.
I am glad that you mention that you just cant do a repair on the ramp if you are not a A&P. Also people who change things around and do their jerry rigging, etc is not legal. Everything has to be approved by the FAA if you going to modify it. So who ever put that ground wire maybe did not know what they did. I am glad yoou got it back to normal. :) you have a very beautiful plane and the way you take care of it shows.. PRIDE OF OWERSHIP :) Happy flying

Thank you. There is an abundance of in-flight vids out there so I do not think I have much to contribute in that dept. Besides, I like focusing on the maintenance/engineering aspects of the plane.

Bart, I'm partnering on a '82 A36 myself but can't get over how nice your paint scheme is and the interior is beautiful. Seat contouring looks very comfortable. Can you share if you completed these items or was it this way when purchased? If so where was the interior done?
Thank you kindly for the comments. Unfortunately, I cannot take the credit for the paint job or the interior. Both were completed by Pristine Airplanes, the company I bought the plane from. After 5 years of use, I can attest that both the paint and interior are wearing extremely well with no issues and the seats are indeed very comfortable.

I have seen my share of mods to my A/C's fuel etc. to know well enough what gets me safe on.

Enjoy your videos. I've learned an important area to check esp on large Continentals are the exhaust valves. Does your mechanic borescope the exhaust valves for proper symmetrical burn patterns? According to Mike Busch, they are the most thermally stressed parts of the cylinders.
Of course. I am planning to do a video shortly about borescope inspections and how to do these yourself using an inexpensive borescope.

What are your thoughts on plugging in an air dryer when your plane is parked?
I think it is not a bad idea. Only problem is kind of a PITA to set-up and maintain. Hence, I prefer to fly the plane weekly and use Camguard so I do not have to worry too much about corrosion inside the engine. I also change oil every 4 months.

Hi Bart. What's the maximum and minimum for oil (A36 - IO550B1F). Thank you.
Max - 12 quarts, min I think is 6 or so. But do not put more than 10 unless you want to spend the entire weekend cleaning airplane's belly. I keep mine around 9-10 quarts.

The poor Cub hasn't flown in 15 years or so unfortunately. I was keeping it in hopes one of my kids will take up RC. It still has the old FM transmitter in it ;-)
The things that can go wrong and this is one of the best well built airplanes. Never going to get near a cheap ass piper Cherokee again, life is too valuable.

No, the top solenoid is for auxiliary power receptacle.
