I don’t think in my wildest dreams I would have thought you’d react to Tera Melos, I think it’s why this channel is so important. Always surprising and always fucking rad. Keep killing it!
LOVE that you legit went into this cold. Your genuine reactions and careful restating of some observations were as enjoyable as the chaotic energy of this track.
tera melos is amazing. Untitled album is just pure instrumental jazz rock. By organised chaos, in musical terms, it's the use of a lot of odd time signatures done extremely well. So instead of a 4/4 rhythm it might be 7/4, 13/8 etc so on. What is unique is also the jazzy and chromatic style of notes, and how they 'arrange' their songs. Some parts sound like the 'chorus' of the song but will only be played once. Not only that, the frontman is really good at using effects pedals. Check them out!
Hey Mike. Long time fan here. I've recently been revsiting American Football and wondered if you'd ever been exposed to them. They're heralded as the progenitors of what we now know as "midwest-emo" but predate the genre by many years. Particularly, their classic "Never Meant" in 1999 is essentially the blueprint for many bands today. They're currently on their 25th anniversary tour so there's been another recent wave of buzz about them. I think you'd enjoy the mellow mathrock and I'd love to hear what you think in a reaction. I reckon a lot of aging punk kids like myself would enjoy your take on the "godfather of emo". Cheers from Baltimore!
Wow. Tera Melos reaction?!? Saw them live with TTNG years ago. Nick is insane. TTNG (This Town Needs Guns) would be an awesome band to review/react to as well.
Was thinking about these reaction videos that you do while watching some Tera Melos performances, and got this recommended and couldn't believe you just posted a reaction to it! that timing was awesome!
I used to see them live back in the day in Austin with Zorch and Boyfrndz. This guy has like two huge pedal boards and incorporates alot of different effects. And the drummer is a machine. It all makes sense live 🤘
you should also watch one of the older videos of them playing 40 Rods, maybe even one of the ones with Jeff Worms still in the band, their energy makes up for the lower video quality
Used to love these guys. Havent listened to them much in a while. Crazy shit, huge pedal boards, wonderful listening/playing exercise to break yourself out of a rut. Organized chaos is beautiful.
Hahahahahaha welcome to Tera Melos, they’re from Sacramento, CA and I live in the area. I’ve seen them open for The Dear Hunter (a band you absolutely need to check out, totally different vibe, chaos is not their MO) and one of my buddies knew the guys from Tera Melos and we all hung out after the show drinking and playing Mario kart on ds. It was one of the most memorable shows ever. Good people ❤
Phew....I thought the beard was you going off grid to avoid deportation....but a brill video....the joy of surprise on your face produces infectious grins all round! Cheers MP
6:11 I like the way you describe Math Rock, (especially the first math rock bands use more of that aspect you mention) is a big genre, very interesting to dive into, if you want to hear some wild stuff but more "melodic" riff i suggest Daijiro Nakagawa.
This is what happens when you grow up in a home woth a skipping cd player...home schooled and convimced by your parents everyone is infected with a zombie virus.
It must be difficult to get three musicians on that same bizarre wavelength. That being said, they weren't always together. Maybe that was intentional.

A lot of those glitchy effects are a digital delay with infinite repeats and a very fast delay time. He will just stomp it on and off really quickly.

patagonian rats one of the greatest albums ever made! i met them and nick (main guy) said he liked my shoes, such a lovely interaction

Mike, you're very kind. And very open to all sorts of things. 😊🙌🏼
The Mars Volta connection is funny cause Nick Reinhart used to do a Pedal show on youtube with Juan Alderete

Would love to see The Dear Hunter on this channel
@ hard agree! One of the most underrated bands. I’ve seen them a few times and they were incredible each time.

This puts me in the mood for some Adebisi Shank. I think they had a show on Cock and Bull TV too.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh love Tera Melos!
You might even know the guitar player. Does a lot of pedal reviews. Nick Reinhart.
I call this genre, If Mars Volta and Steve Vai merged together to make a track for a Mario game.

Dude, I love Tera Melos!!
Love it! Jack White and Fisher Price make it happen. Definitely At the Drive In'esque goodness.

This sounds mean, but that sounds like a bunch of trash. It makes no sense at all. No rhyme no reason. It's just weird sorry
