Joe, you forgot the most important spec of all: which ones are proprietary and which are open architecture? Back in the day when USB and Firewire were new, Firewire was much faster than USB but USB won out because it was open and Firewire was proprietary. A little ancient history: When IBM first developed the original PC architecture, they never expected it to be anything more than a curiosity, so they made the ISA bus open architecture. Had the ISA bus been proprietary, the computer revolution might not have happened; at best, Apple computers would be around, but they'd be hipster toys and so home computers wouldn't have been as widespread as they are today. Anyway, IBM tried to take back their market share by inventing the MicroChannel bus (which, again, was far superior to ISA) and making it proprietary. The greedy execs at IBM merely "New Coked" the company into irrelevance by that boneheaded move. Everyone stayed with ISA, and gradually evolved it into what we have today: EISA, PCI, etc.

I am thinking of getting a DVI-D to HDMI converter from my service provider cable box to my 4k UHD Smart TV. And I have been hearing about DVI is going to lack of audio if that is going to be the case.
Actually you can chain monitors with displayport as well. One line can handle 3 screens. Just need a proper card that can handle it, but the interface itself supports the action.

(which make perfect technical sense in a sticky choke-on-your-snot, kind of way...)!
It sounds better to use HDMI. I have two of the same monitors bought at the same time, and they both display the same colours. I recently changed my cable management to make it less clustered, and for that I had to use a longer DVI-D cable. I didn't have that. I went to the store and bought a €7 HDMI cable. when I plugged it in the monitor and the pc to test it, I directly noticed that I had to use DVI. Black was nowhere near as black as the black I get with HDMI, colours are less vibrant and whites are less white. I grabbed a vibrant image of flowers, mirrored it and dragged it half on 1 display and half on the other. This made it even more visible that the colours via HDMI were way worse. Now I know that I shouldn't use HDMI ever.
