A key strategy in the original had ur most power support, cure, and damage spells try to be paired with all materia. Apperently after being only 23 game hrs in. I realized that same tactic still appies here and as a massive fan of the old one. This makes me happy
There was a reviewer complaining about the dog encounter in the shinra hq, when multiple dogs come out to attack you. They said it impossible to get by, so they dropped the difficulty to easy in order to pass it. I run into the room on hard mode and drop a couple of chi traps and the fight was over lol.
Magnify if u remember the original game went by another name: All Materia. Which allowed u to use a linked slot paired along with almost any curative, damage, support spells to be used as a group effect
Deadly dodge is also really good. It covers a lot of distance booses cloud's operator mode damage and let's tifa skip directly to her auto combo finisher attacks.
Not the best but interesting combo is: HP absorb + Lightning MP absorb + Lightning Whenever you use lightning you get HP and MP back at the same time. I think I also tried magnify+lightning on top of the above two, but I forgot if it worked or not. Maybe someone can verify. Also it could be any attack spell, I only picked lightning because it’s a guaranteed hit once casted.
i've been using those 3 together to grind materias actually. iirc it works with magnify but the important thing is that the magic materia have to be the same level, that is for example that if you cast firaga but the fire materia annexed to HP and MP absorb is only level 1, then you won't gain HP and MP.
@xyz basic attacks and magic attacks are independent of one another - so, no. Adding the elemental materia plus hp/mp absorb to the same type of materia does NOT stack (unfortunately, I was hoping for this too the second I got hp absorb)
for anyone struggling with the rank 5 fight mentioned in the vid, the one with the insta murder blade bot. thunder-elemental on armour. rank 2 prefereably. considering almost every enemy in the rank 5 use lightning attacks (example the thundaga using prick with the super fast asshole at the start) and the insta murder move that almost kills you even when blocking is lightning based, lightning resist makes every match far easier. also lightning is most of the enemies weaknesses as well. so... thundara everything. they'll either get staggered or get fecked up and not attack properly as is the case for murderblade bot.
I’m in chapter 9 lvling up in the arena and man… Aerith is op with the magnify materia, takes me around a min to clear through enemies with fire and ATB boost 🤭 Im lv 34 and 36 but man might stay on it till 50 or till I get my other materias up before progressing through the story 🤗
there is another chakra materia in Don basement when you return there in chapter 14 before the sewer part. And also you can get the chakra in the church in the same chapter just after you've seen the scene with the turk.
Regarding the steadfast block section: that final enemy becomes trivial if you equip Elemental and Lightning materia in your armor. At level 2 elemental nullifies damage from enemy electric attacks (which is reasonably the level you have around Hard unlock) It’s very useful!
This game’s combat is so fun. Side note: Considering you’re from a country whose main language isn’t English, I must say that I respect the fact you speak it so well. There are so many people that have lived here in the USA for so many years that never cared to learn the language & it’s truly sad & pathetic. So kudos to you 👍👍
Magnify is by far my absolute favorite Materia! Just beat the game and can't wait to level them and unlock Bahamut in the VR missions~ Afterwards it's time to beat the game on hard mode ^^
If I use magnify with elemental then the same elemental with MP absorb, do I get the full effect of MP absorb with it hitting all enemies? That's kind of how materia chaining worked in the original.
There are 3 Chakra. 1 with Tifa. 2 in Chapter 14, one at Don's Mansion where you held with Tifa and Aerith underground, has the don machine next to it. second at the stash sidequest.
If you remember in ff7 original game there was a material called added effect which combined with life materia or revival materia would instantly revive you from death is there a way to Link materia to bring you back from instant death in final fantasy 7 remake?
Also.. What is the chance of success of casting on enemy. VS yourselves.? Answer that question and you have another good reason based on basic probability
thatguy52 which is actually probably the most important combination in the game. Get that cure up to Curaga on a magnify and slap it on aerith with her high ass magical stats and you’re golden.
have not played yet beat the original one I love how looks like they kept the old school material layout. That's what made VII so badass in my opinion. Does anyone know how much material you can get in remake vs old one?
Those solo challenges r a lot easier if u just equip elemental and lightning on ur armor. As long as its 2 star u will be immune to moth balls strongest attacks. Also the last 3 enemies r weak to lightning as well. Also i used 1st strike materia thats maxed to be able to cast thundaga to start the fight in round 5. Not sure but seems like it brings the blades down and starts more lightning based attacks
Just a heads up, on Classic mode Auto-cure will be automatically cast by the player controlled character as well. I played on this mode at first just so I could focus on the story first time through.
First strike + ATB boost is ridiculous, allows you to immediately perform 2 actions minimum before most enemies can even move. Allows you to start with, say, haste on everyone and then barrier on a character (or any other combination of buffs. Also viable with offensive spells, obviously, like opening fire all on enemies weak to fire...Already pretty strong, now imagine doing it twice before your enemies can react)...Pretty good way to start a fight if you ask me. In fact, all materia focusing on gaining ATB are incredibly strong. ATB master and ATB assist also appeared to be great based on my testing. I also like Steadyfast block + Parry. Absorb most damage when you block, deal damage to the enemy and allow you to react instantly afterwards...Sure, I'm in.
ATB Boost doesn't act the way you think it does. It's a good materia to use for long drawn out fights, at rank 5, as it allows you to fill your ATB bar to max (without Focus Limit) every 120 seconds, as long as you remember to perform the the action command L1+R1. It's not a passive that boost your ATB in-conjunction with First Strike.
@@goshtic9565 Eeeeeerrr.... Yes I know how it works mate, thank you very much. 1/Put First strike and ATB boost on the same character and set him/her as your leader (the latest is otpional but I just found it easier to sequence if you do). 2/You start the battle, First trike allows you to get a decent amount of ATB straight off the bat. 3/From that point, you use your first charge of ATB boost and go to full ATB and be able to to whatever you want.
@@GenLiu You have to wait 120secs before you can use your first ATB Boost. Very situational usage, as I usually finish up a fight in 3-10secs. If I'm fighting a boss that drags on, then I have it on my non-controlling character, since it's often them lacking ATB charges and not the character you're controlling. That's just my playstyle, I don't have problem with ATB on the character I control.
@@goshtic9565 I think you wanted to say you have to wait 12o seconds to use your second ATB boost but if that wasn't the case, you can actually use it immediately when the fight starts (the cooldown applies after you used it). I personally switch my characters a LOT, in fact, one of the downside of this game, imo, is the fact that, the AI of your allies is highly incompetent at avoiding...well, anything really, meaning I feel the need of babysitting them by taking control and moving them out of the way pretty much constantly. Having said that, another viable way of playing this game is by tanking the damage/status effects and heal/clean your characters accordignly so, I agree with you, it entierly depends on anyone's playstyle. Some combos that may be useful for some, won't be for others (that's one thing I love about this game, there's a lot of possible build and combos you can experiement with and each player will have a different opinion about them). About the combo being situational because it's only viable against bosses, that's one way of putting it but at the same time, bosses are the most difficult things you'll have to deal with in this game (at least on difficult mode).

Is it possible to master the material in this game? I ask because I used to do a lot of mastering of the low-level Elemental Materia and just sell the master Materia while keeping the new material that was generated by splitting once it hits master. Also they change the names of some of the material and they gave people back with skills that they didn't used to have in the original game I think I'm going to like this game once I get it
MP is a very precious resource in hard mode, dont waste it casting manawalls on your team. you WILL regret it, instead use barret's STEELSKIN + LIFESAVER combo. save your Magnify materia for heals or haste. Also abusing elemental materia on your armor in hard mode will make your life much more easy. regardless all of these tips are going to bin during hell house's fight anyway, good luck.
Thank you, for this great content. I have a question and I hope, someone can fill me in the details. When you visit the church for the first time, after the battle with Reno, then there ist a Materia, that counts the steps of the party. 5000 if I remember correctly. Well I’m pretty sure, I reached the number. But the Materia disappeared. Can someone explain, why this ist and what this Materia is useful for? Sorry, I don’t remember the name of this thing an find it difficult to translate.
Also it'd be nice if Prayer stacked (put both on 1 character). Maxed out with ~300 magic it only heals a little over 4k.. not worth 2 atb in my opinion.
Anyone knows if elemental attacks are based on atk Or magic Ou even a combination of both when I link Elemetal Materia + fire/ice/wind/thunder materia on a weapon?
Aina S'hin I’m fairly certain it’s a combination of both damage types. You do regular physical damage with your basic attacks and if you have say lightning+elemental equipped into a linked weapon slot you will do that physical damage+elemental damage on top of the regular physical damage. It would make sense for that elemental damage to be based off both your magic attack and magic stat. Not sure, the magic stat may just affect spells, but I’d say magic attack stat would absolutely affect that elemental damage.
Can anyone give me any insight for a good build for hard mode for all characters? Materia, Weapons/upwards & gear. Thanks for any information in advance!
Charlie W have all character have revival, heal and prayer(only 2 available), 2 hp up and mp up(for me minimum hp is 8000 and minimum mp is 120-130ish) and i always have time on everyone to keep haste and possibly stop and i always either have cloud or aerith have magniy barrier(might wanna switch this to mag-cure on sephiroth but thats justs me) and have all characters use the elemental weakness of a boss. I also switch maybe hp up or time materia for 1 or 2 elemental weakness of mobs and 2 first strike on my characters
Stop an enemy if possible and keep using tifa’ true strike. Can easily reach 300% and maybe 400% if the stagger is long. Also you can only stop an enemy three times, maybe less if lesser resist or greater resist Also if you are trying to do hard mode, you NEED the superboss accessory. To do that, i suggest max all your materia and have 4 of each materia and 8 of hp and mp up and have all LV2 LB. Trust me it will really help 😂. In hard mode you cant use items and cant recover mp unless you start a new chapter and the enemies, even mobs have bigger health and atk harder and thats why you need at least 2 hp up on each character espiecially the bosses. Best grind spot is in chapter 16. Just have magniy-fire on whoever has the highest magic and fill in as much materia as you can until you max it a switch out. 279 AP per run. Doubled if you have AP up. 3-4 mins per run maybe less
Charlie W HP up/MP up/Revival/Luck up(for cloud/tifa)/Barrier/Time/Prayer/Magnify/Elemental. Max out all your materia If you can. And get the Gotterdammerung ASAP. The quicker you get it, the easier your hard play through will be. I got it first, then started my hard play through. It makes it a lot easier because hard mode is very very hard
Charlie W try to have everyone have around 120mp-200mp. Everyone in my party has at least 170MP on hard mode. Remember benches no longer refill your MP in hard mode. You don’t refill your MP until the beginning of the next chapter.
If u use elemental and lighting in the armor slot, M.O.T.H.s ultrahigh voltage will do nothing to you. I ended up putting both lighting and elemental materias in armor and weapon to make the fight a lot easier.
MOTH fight was hard af til I put my elemental materia + lightning on armor- then it became ridiculously easy 'ope im 2000 HP maybe i should heal- nvm he used his ult, thx for the 6000 health bro'
Cognitive Dissonance Oh okay, that makes sense, the way the initial comment was worded was confusing? Like how do you absorb hp with magnify or use magnify if those two are linked? That makes more sense now. 3* Lightning+hp absorb as well as a 3* lightning+magnify will allow you to absorb hp from all enemies hit by any level of a lightning spell. Thanks for clarifying that. I will certainly try that out!
Manawall + Magnify makes Hardmode to Easymode 2.0. Both first strike materias and prayer on each char is also pretty much meta for hardmode. So nothing special until here. The Element attack is not that strong in the end of the game and can fire back on some encounters like the house.
1. Manawall + Magnify spam = to expensive for Hardmode (better of just using the phys or the magic, not both, also rarely a need for magnify). 2. First strike not really that useful vs most story bosses (aka the only time builds really matter, great for everything else though). 3. Prayer only really useful with high magic stat characters (otherwise you're better off of with Chakra). 4. Element attack is VERY strong for stagger damage against anything with a weakness (just super annoying that you can't switch it in combat).
Elvis Nilsson Magnify reduces the cost overall for the Barrier spells. And if a encounter does magic and phys., manawall is your best option. Also if you are not sure what the enemy does, manawall might prevent a death. First strike helps a lot with quick combat setups at start and is incredible great for quick new encounters. Prayer might be better on high magic chars but it is still better than wasting MP with vita casts. And as said, later game enemies have rarely a element weakness. It is strong to enemies with a weakness tho. I just beat hardmode with this stuff and didn’t need a single Ress at all.
If I’m not mistaken, ability materia (yellow ones) like prayer do not scale according to spirit which means that it’s healing proficiency doesn’t depend on someone that heals well like Aerith. So may be worth putting it on someone like your tank, Barrett since how well it heals doesnt change according to stats (I think). Correct me if I’m wrong lol

There was a reviewer complaining about the dog encounter in the shinra hq, when multiple dogs come out to attack you. They said it impossible to get by, so they dropped the difficulty to easy in order to pass it. I run into the room on hard mode and drop a couple of chi traps and the fight was over lol.
JNoir J Good idea, I used barrier+magnify+first strike materia for that part. Will keep your suggested method in mind for hard mode.
Magnify if u remember the original game went by another name: All Materia. Which allowed u to use a linked slot paired along with almost any curative, damage, support spells to be used as a group effect
ApeXx War should have just called it all.
He mentioned this in the video.
Deadly dodge is also really good. It covers a lot of distance booses cloud's operator mode damage and let's tifa skip directly to her auto combo finisher attacks.
HP absorb and deadly dodge works well linked also. Then if you have an elemental bonus against enemy than more damage equals more health
Not the best but interesting combo is:
HP absorb + Lightning
MP absorb + Lightning
Whenever you use lightning you get HP and MP back at the same time.
If, with your tactic, you use
Elemental materia + Lighting
In your Weapon...Is still valid?
@xyz basic attacks and magic attacks are independent of one another - so, no. Adding the elemental materia plus hp/mp absorb to the same type of materia does NOT stack (unfortunately, I was hoping for this too the second I got hp absorb)
i am glad you made this video cus many who do never talk about the cool and good mix with the materia and which items and weapons they use.
for anyone struggling with the rank 5 fight mentioned in the vid, the one with the insta murder blade bot. thunder-elemental on armour. rank 2 prefereably. considering almost every enemy in the rank 5 use lightning attacks (example the thundaga using prick with the super fast asshole at the start) and the insta murder move that almost kills you even when blocking is lightning based, lightning resist makes every match far easier. also lightning is most of the enemies weaknesses as well. so... thundara everything. they'll either get staggered or get fecked up and not attack properly as is the case for murderblade bot.
And also you can get the chakra in the church in the same chapter just after you've seen the scene with the turk.
brag1337 where is the chakra at the church?
Regarding the steadfast block section: that final enemy becomes trivial if you equip Elemental and Lightning materia in your armor. At level 2 elemental nullifies damage from enemy electric attacks (which is reasonably the level you have around Hard unlock) It’s very useful!
Used to watch your Horizon Zero Dawn content! Glad your covering this game too!
This game’s combat is so fun. Side note: Considering you’re from a country whose main language isn’t English, I must say that I respect the fact you speak it so well. There are so many people that have lived here in the USA for so many years that never cared to learn the language & it’s truly sad & pathetic. So kudos to you 👍👍
Also should mention Magnify+Time materia. I use it as a buff normally but you can also use it as a debuff if you fight larger groups of monsters.
HP absorb w/ deadly dodge is a solid way to recoup a little health
Magnify is by far my absolute favorite Materia!
Just beat the game and can't wait to level them and unlock Bahamut in the VR missions~
Afterwards it's time to beat the game on hard mode ^^
It is the old "All" materia after all. It was massively helpful in the OG game too ( and a mastered one was worth a shitton of money ).
Wait bahamut is out? How?
@@ShinryuZensen Yup I heard of that and I can definitely see why!
@@MrDjx01 In the VR missions that Chadley gives you, you can beat him and get his summon materia afterwards.
If I use magnify with elemental then the same elemental with MP absorb, do I get the full effect of MP absorb with it hitting all enemies? That's kind of how materia chaining worked in the original.
Another great video 👏
Great video!
There are 3 Chakra. 1 with Tifa. 2 in Chapter 14, one at Don's Mansion where you held with Tifa and Aerith underground, has the don machine next to it. second at the stash sidequest.
Raise works to 1hko ghost. Not the ghoul boss, use cures instead on it's magic vulnerable phase.
If you remember in ff7 original game there was a material called added effect which combined with life materia or revival materia would instantly revive you from death is there a way to Link materia to bring you back from instant death in final fantasy 7 remake?
Didn't know about the staggerstop trick. Cool!
You can get 3 Prayer Materia if you open Don Corneo stash in normal and Hard as well as the one you got with Arieth.
Deadly Dodge can pair up with HP absorb :)
What? No way!
Love Deadly Dodge on Tifa and Barret and Tifa with pary!
Works with parry too
Edit: and enemy skill
WOW
Thank you!
*Hope they will continue the FINAL FANTASY 7 remake*
*Too many questions that needs to be answered!* 😊
These are legit, good tips. I like your argument for using Magnify for support over offensive.
Also.. What is the chance of success of casting on enemy. VS yourselves.?
Answer that question and you have another good reason based on basic probability
man all good setups. my simple mind could only think of magnify+cure.
thatguy52 which is actually probably the most important combination in the game. Get that cure up to Curaga on a magnify and slap it on aerith with her high ass magical stats and you’re golden.
I love FF7R videos it's been a big help for me. 🙌
Thanks!
Brilliant mate 🥳🥳🥳
have not played yet beat the original one I love how looks like they kept the old school material layout.
That's what made VII so badass in my opinion.
Does anyone know how much material you can get in remake vs old one?
Please make sure that you mention that magnify decreses the duration of all these spells
Dmg for sure
Man here I was hoping to learn combinations I don't already know...
barret with auto cure + provoke saved me a lot of times
Couldn't you just use his Lifesaver ability?
Those solo challenges r a lot easier if u just equip elemental and lightning on ur armor. As long as its 2 star u will be immune to moth balls strongest attacks. Also the last 3 enemies r weak to lightning as well. Also i used 1st strike materia thats maxed to be able to cast thundaga to start the fight in round 5. Not sure but seems like it brings the blades down and starts more lightning based attacks
Just a heads up, on Classic mode Auto-cure will be automatically cast by the player controlled character as well. I played on this mode at first just so I could focus on the story first time through.
Game is easy on normal mode already.
Sigh... Seriously taking away game experience
Bond people can enjoy things the way they want.
You can get a 3rd Prayer materia aswell, I got another from behind a Corneo gate in hard mode.
Wow, extremely helpful video 👍
Wow! I didnt know “stop” also stop stagger mode❤ thanks!
One thing Im curious about.. the magic matery report requires mastering 12 magic materia.. but I only count 11 on me and at materia vendors.. what am I missing?
Should be all the green materia: fire lightning, ice, wind, poison, cure, cleansing, dispel, time, revive( a bitch to upgrade with 5000 points), barrier and subversion
@@moritzwinges1560 I figured it out, just can't buy Revival materia from the machine, I have all 12, but still working on half of them. All but revival are close to done.
Eric Broderick you can ap farm revival in chapter 16
@@jaatown23 yeah, I didnt think about it at the time because I have Carbuncle (a life saver on bosses, espeically the last) but since its 3x AP now, Ill just attach it to AP up and get it leveled super fast in the VR battles.. Cant wait to get Bahamut :)
Wait, I thought for the second element materia, you need to complete corneo vault and give the stuff to Marle first
Tifa: Feathered Gloves (highest speed); ATB Support; Unbridled Strength 2x for great Team ATB buildup and improved Triangle. Also 2x True Strike on staggered enemies. Improve stagger multiplier, boost team ATB, do more damage. Win-win-win.
Thats great. I couldnt find any usefull combination for the ATB assist materia. Thanks !
How do u use sleep. U can't use it with barrier ? I thought u said u can use sleep with barrier please explaine magnify n barrier what materia puts them to sleep
I'm wondering if your items and levels will carry over to episode 2 when it releases or will we just start over at the beginning of each episode. Really hope it's the former.
There’s no way in hell they can optimized the game to fit for everyone’s play style as some people will only play the game once and some other will grind everything to max , so it’s probably gunna start off from level 1 again
@@Ldenlord No, it's going to be optional. In the original game, level cap is 99. The second part of the game, the level cap will be raised. They'll still have Classic, Easy, Normal, and Hard. They will probably need to break the 9999 barrier tho. Since we can reached 9999 in the current game.
Algid aura + hp absorb.
Arcane ward + magnify + level 3 elemental spell (I want to see if linking hp absorb and the same element in different slots works how I think it will with this combo)
In the original it would've worked that way
In hard mode does your whole game reset or do you keep your materia?
Do you get any rewards for completing hard mode? Or is it just for a more challenging play through?
People do it mostly for the fun of the challenge and platinum , and of course the reward for finishing the hardest fighting simulator
Spoilers:
Starting any battle with a full limit break
Is it possible to master the material in this game? I ask because I used to do a lot of mastering of the low-level Elemental Materia and just sell the master Materia while keeping the new material that was generated by splitting once it hits master. Also they change the names of some of the material and they gave people back with skills that they didn't used to have in the original game I think I'm going to like this game once I get it
You can master them, but they do not generate a new one of the same time. Materiagenesis is off, alas.
I thought a lot of late game materia was strange or garbage, but now I realize it was meant for Hard-mode.
Best materia guide so far. Wonder why you didn't add Warding materia?
I use barrier+magnify on barret with chakra and pray and his other abilities to be a healing support tank who can do long dist attacks
Good stuff, gonna use these tips when I do hard mode.
Sorry, I don’t remember the name of this thing an find it difficult to translate.
it transformed into a AP up material for me iirc.
It's called "pedometer".
Thank you 😊
Also it'd be nice if Prayer stacked (put both on 1 character). Maxed out with ~300 magic it only heals a little over 4k.. not worth 2 atb in my opinion.
Use healing carcanet and weapon skills to get full heal from prayer.
Thanks for this, definately gonna try out this on hard mode
@@marccuffe6392 I see, so basically, if I wanna do a run with Elemental, it's a good idea to take a weapon with high stats in both atk and matk... 🤔
For magician,I use magnify-spell and Hp absorb-spell(same spell that pair a magnify materia) for absorb multiple times. But not work with mp absorb.
Equip materia on weapons you are not using to gain ap on that materia... always got stuff leveling up even if u don’t use it!!!
Oh wow that works? Didn't think of that. Always focused on stuff that was equipped
I just absorb the damage from the thunder strike with the materia on armor and elemental
Also you can only stop an enemy three times, maybe less if lesser resist or greater resist
Also if you are trying to do hard mode, you NEED the superboss accessory.
Magnify and what ever element enemies are week too helps cast fire on shinra soldiers and boom move on to the next batch .
Hard to miss magnify material. I was walking like crazy there and didn't find it lol.
Lighting plus elemental on clouds armor when fighting moth.....and your welcome....
Finn Balor i was thinking the same thing lol. I can’t believe he didn’t know! Also, fire + elemental on the armor for the pride and joy/Bahamut fight.
I was just about to ask this. Thanks 👍
If u use elemental and lighting in the armor slot, M.O.T.H.s ultrahigh voltage will do nothing to you. I ended up putting both lighting and elemental materias in armor and weapon to make the fight a lot easier.
how good is synergy materia? any good combinations?
That one is trash. There's no good use out of it, that you couldn't already do manually.
is there a world map or any form of exploration in this game?
MOTH fight was hard af til I put my elemental materia + lightning on armor- then it became ridiculously easy
'ope im 2000 HP maybe i should heal- nvm he used his ult, thx for the 6000 health bro'
Yeah I think they fked up the balance of lvlimg. For elemental armour
MOTH is easy with steadfast block and any healing materia.
Can you have more than 1 magnify Materia ?
Sadly, no.
You can link the same level hp absorb with magnify and really absorb health too.
What?
That doesn’t sound like it would work?
Meaning if you have two lighting materia of equal level, you attach one to magnify and one to hp absorb, and it will use both simultaneously
Marc Cuffe
Fo sho. Ain’t no gettin offa this train we on
I just finished it in hard, damn it was crazy especially the end, so much pressure 😂
Just a tip for you my friend. "Beserk" is pronounced like "bee-zirk" I love your videos bro. Keep up the good work.
No man, it's "beRserk"
Hey @JorRaptor just a friendly heads up Berserk is pronounced more like ::::::::::::::: {Burr • Zerk}

All healing spells take the same amount of time to cast
No they don't.
What other channel did you have your voice is familiar
Favorite materia so far is the deadly dodge materia
If I’m not mistaken, ability materia (yellow ones) like prayer do not scale according to spirit which means that it’s healing proficiency doesn’t depend on someone that heals well like Aerith. So may be worth putting it on someone like your tank, Barrett since how well it heals doesnt change according to stats (I think). Correct me if I’m wrong lol
Based on max health
