    I know Jen said it didnt age well (the jokes), but I think they aged fine because Carter is supposed to be inappropriate and saying bad things. The jokes aren't supposed to be funny at the expense of the people that jokes are about, but funny because of how inappropriate Carter is being.

    I find it funny how they probably feel scared to laugh too much at the "racist" jokes and say they're just bad taste. To me, just enjoy the movie because that's the point of the movie. It's meant to be pushing the boundaries of what is offensive to each culture and it was done very well especially with the duo of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. Still can't believe this films were made, feels like the best favor dream ever

      You have to remember society today is too sensitive. Back then we could laugh at sexiest, racist, homophobic jokes

    • @chrisofstars
      @chrisofstars ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Albert_Pullhoes It's partly that but there's also less artists and brilliant people in the world now who know how to make jokes funny to everyone. People like Mel Brooks for example did it very well. Nowadays comedy is mostly about being offensive and pushing shock value. This movie does a good job of making racist jokes funny. As in, you know they're messed up, but the way they are delivered you shouldn't be able to help but laugh. For example, I'm gay, but I find that scene where the gay dude is helping them pick their clothes hilarious. I know the actor is actually straight too but he plays a gay very well and in a funny way that it pokes fun but it's not entirely offensive. The dude's energy and vibe and great acting is comedy in itself to supplement and support the stereotype. It's not just offensive for the sake of being offensive. The old lady saying "Step aside Kobe!" to Carter is another good example. I seen a lot of black people laughing at that joke even though they know it's low key fucked up to black people lol. The fact it comes flying out of this sweet looking elderly's mouth serves as a distraction and to soften the blow of the racist remark. It's just racist jokes done well, in a semi-subtle yet playful way. We need more people who know how to dance that line like we used to.

    Regarding the subtitles, companies sometimes try to cut costs while licensing streaming rights for movies. Particularly with older movies, you could license the regular edition or the one with subtitles. My (mostly deaf) girlfriend and I rewatched the rush hour trilogy and I finally was able to find a version of Rush Hour 2 with subtitles I could buy on TH-cam. Amazon Prime didn't have subtitles while it was on there. It's extremely frustrating as you usually don't find out until you start watching if there are subtitles or not.

    • @2GuysTalkingPodcastNetwork
      @2GuysTalkingPodcastNetwork 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amazon is excellent with refunds in regard to missing subtitles/no open captions. Something to remember as well - Open Captions are when all of the words of the film are presented on-screen. Closed Captioned are when they have to be enabled to be seen when those speaking (usually) English are talking. The "subtitles" are typically presented when 1.) Someone is speaking in another language and the movie wants to share what they're saying or 2.) You've enabled the "subtitles" for ___language____. Closed Captions have come a long way in just the last 10 years. I used to run a group of bloggers that would report on the DEEP CHASMS of content that were NOT AVAILABLE with Closed Captions. That trend has changed - likely from a series of presented lawsuits and settlements. It's great to have it available for my family and I and changes the game in how we can/are able to enjoy entertainment.

Neither of them would survive without the other and there's a bit of cultural exchange between each other which I love. Rush Hour 1 is the original establishement of characters, the clash of culture between Lee & Carter from Chinese to US culture, that was the hilarious never done before iconic duo dynamic,
    Rush Hour 2 built on the success of the first one, both are more comfortable with each other cultures, so they focus more on their friendship and fusion of cultures, so these humoristic frictions they had in the first movie is gone a little bit, but we have to appriciate the natural progress of their friendship!!
