- NIC AND CALIFORNIA TEST: Step-by-step explanation about your table set-up, holding your razor and scissors, sectioning options, connecting the guidelines and state board haircut requirements and points. First set up the tabl: all the haircutting implements that need to be sanitized can go on the SMA (sanitary maintenance area), the water bottle can go on the towel. Section the hair into 5 section leaving the innitial guideline. Cut the nape area with the razor (the guard faceing the cosmetologist). Make sure the hair is evenly moist throughout the haircut. Razor-cut the innitial guideline and follow it through the haircut of the hape area. Scissor cut the top portion of the back section, the top and the sides of the head. Cross check your hairut. Leave your haircutting implements on your SMA to be placed in the Soiled Implement Container after the haircut. Do not sweap the hair off the floor until instructed by the State Board Examiner; the examiner will check your hairut before you clean up. I wish my instructor was this helpful. Our instructors were too concerned with their own appearances and let the students run the school. I'm starting a different school in January and I learned more through this video than I ever did in class. I feel a lot better starting again.

This video was very helpful to me. There are slight differences in some of the steps but I love the little tips and hints (like curving fingers to the shape of the head!). These little things help me because I absolutely panic and forget what I’m doing. Thank you for sharing! 💇🏻♀️

Great instructor!! I was screwed when I when to school my voc teachers were horrible!! They taught us to cut like 2x and never showed us how to do acrylics cuz they didn’t like the smell!!! All we ever did was perms and finger waves!! Now at 40 I’m going to get my Nail Tech license. It’s never to late to do what you love young ladies follow your heart 💜

This was a great video. I'm from Indiana and signed up for school. I went, but I never understood what all I was suppose to do. I basically had to learn on my own. I started not to like school because the teacher did not explain anything. I thought I'm going to graduate and not know anything. Coloring the hair, the teacher would mix my colors, but she didn't tell me why or how much of each to use. I learned that there were other dos-satisfied as well. Cosmetology is what I wanted to do for a long time, but learning was nothing like I thought it would be.When I signed up, I was pregnant and did not know it at the time. 9 months later, I gave birth and was immediately sent to Kentucky because my son had a rare vision dis-order. I started to miss school. I signed up full time and asked if I can go to part time and they said no. They said I would have to start over and pay the same fee.I just quit because my son needed to have surgeries and he was more important. Then over the years, I struggled in getting to go back because my son was autistic as well. Now he is 16 and I am able to go back. I will be signing up at a school 40 miles away. I will continue to watch these videos and learn all I can. I want to be a good beautician.Thank you so much for this video!

Nice! I just passed my state board a couple of weeks ago and i sectioned my mannequin into quadrants. Made it easy to lose your place in the back sections since the subsections are longer. Wish i learned it this way since it looks easier

How she does the back is interesting. I was taught differently so this is something im going to have to try sometime. I am not a fan of how she does the crown though. When i cut i just take a section from the back and pull it to the front making verticle sections checking to make sure it comes out in same length. Overall wonderful instructor and great information.

It used to be that way before, each procedure was supposed to be assumed to be a new client, so all the drape had to be changed, but for California, now you don't have to change the drape, but, if you do, no points are taken away from you; they will assume that the drape was soiled and that's why you changed it.

Thanks for this very helpful video! The regulations read as follows on the PSI State Boards website for Texas:
"Establishes entire perimeter guideline using razor to determine length" Does that mean for Texas we need to part out the entire perimeter, including the fringe area, and razor cut that, and then proceed with the sheers for the remainder of the haircut? The next reads, "Follows established guideline throughout haircut with traveling guide using shears". Thanks again!

I’m about to start cosmetology school in four days this is a great video and I can’t wait to start school
I thought a Graduated haircut is cut at 45 degree angle cut. From what I was taught it looks like she is cutting 90 degree angle cut. I'm in Alabama I did Pivot Point Fundamentals and my daughter did Milady her book says same as above. I guess every state is different on the angle cuts. The instructor is good.
I got a Miss Kim doll, she doesn't have loads of hair and her head is reasonably sized, like BHT says some of them are really big so look around. I am freaking out about my SB practical, which is in 2 weeks, but these videos are so helpful, I loved your manicure and artificial nail one too. Thank BHT!!
