Fun fact: The Reignited Trilogy was made by the same developer as Skylanders, Toys for Bob. They're also the ones behind Crash 4. I feel like it's something that people often forget about Toys for Bob.

Just goes to show once again that the bad decisions for game franchises can just as (if not more) often be because of meddling publishers than the actual Dev teams.
IIRC, many people who actually played Skylanders had said it played pretty well. Just the whole toys to life gimick was overdone and Activision decided they needed to use Spyro to market it because heaven forbid a game stand on its own merits.

@@tracemacmillan9718 Pretty much. Grima needs the Grimleal as a contingency in case they get sealed again so another Vessel can be brought about (not that it mattered in the long run when Robin killed them off permanently), not to mention they can also serve as not only eyes and ears for them as well as hands to do their bidding, but having access to them means more options regarding tactics, in particular with psychological warfare which is Grima's specialty. Grigori however... DOESN'T need a cult, they're someone who serves as a judge for a successor, and a death cult only hampers Grigori's ultimate goal of either finding someone worthy to succeed their liege's position as Gran Sys' effective god... or failing that bringing the land to an end. The key difference is that Grima is an outright malevolent and active threat, one that HAS to die to prevent Ruin from overtaking Awakening's world, while Grigori is more akin to a crucible of sorts, someone who uses his flames to bring not only destruction, but use said destruction to find and ultimately temper one capable of surviving said crucible into someone who can watch over and guard Gran Sys until the time comes for them to pass the torch regarding that position... I do agree with Josh though that while I do love Grima and am insistent that they are FE's greatest threat due to ACTUALLY having a proven shot at victory... I can understand why he chose that particular Disciple of Ashera since EVEN A GODDESS CAPABLE OF ONE-SHOTTING THE GREAT THREE DRAGON GODS IN Naga, Grima, and Sothis is intimidated by him... that alone IMO says a lot about their power. And while I also agree that they could've done more with the concept of the "evil doppelganger", considering Awakening was the franchise's sink or swim moment, I'm pretty sure the devs didn't have the resources they do now like they've shown with Three Houses. So I can let that pass.... as long as they remedy if and when the inevitable Echoes style remake happens for Awakening, and you know it's gonna happen at SOME point, the game is FE's very own Final Fantasy 7, or Ocarina of Time. It is alongside Three Houses THE big one of the series.
IMO Grima has a massive amount of potential as a Dragon boss... doubly so with the expansion on lore on both Grima themself since Awakening AND, while I will acknowledge and respect Josh's negative opinion on Engage (I mean I liked it, it wasn't perfect, I'll be the first to admit that, but it wouldn't need too much tweaking and revising on the story department... and maybe NOT killing Lumera off so damn quickly, cause the reason people love Jeralt is because we got time to know him BEFORE they killed him off!), you can't deny that it was nice that they expanded on the lore and concept of Fell Dragons, and how it seems more and more IMO that Divine Dragons and Fell Dragons are two sides of the same coin. Think about it, on top of how with the lessons learned from Engage and Three Houses, the lore expansions and how it wouldn't be too far a stretch for a Fell Dragon to be to a Divine Dragon what a Shadow Dragon is to an Earth Dragon (Medeus comes to mind), even being in the name, Fell, as in Fallen from Grace, there's also both far more advanced tech, doubly so with the Switch's successor on the horizon, AND far more resources Intelligent Systems has access to nowadays, so they very well could truly fix whatever problems still remain due to the combination of technical and resource constraints from back then, World-Building in particular being something that they should put high on the list cause I love Awakening, in fact it's arguably my favorite game of all time or at least competing with Persona 5 Royal for that title, but it's not perfect and World-Building, even if they have the Marth Era Archeanea games and the Jugdral games to fallback on, a LOT can happen in 2000 years as we've seen, so they really need to put that on the list.
Hell, imagine fighting Grima, but in this case, he takes a page out of Nemesis' playbook (fitting considering mightiest Fell Dragon of all, Fell King of Liberation AND Grima get's to mock arguably the worst members of the Human Race they so despise has to offer) and uses their version of the Dead-Lords (I HC Grima and Loptous HATE each other as do the Grimleal and Lopt Sect and being in a constant low-key war since Grima's first attack on the world... Loptous from what I've seen is a bastard and a monster in terms of who he is through and through, the Dragon equivalent of the likes of Thales and Nemesis, while it isn't outright stated... remember that Forneus was a grieving mad-man, and what Dimitri himself went through... wouldn't be too out there for Forneus to have hallucinated the dark and violent thoughts like how Dimitri did with the "Ghosts", betrayed and tried to kill Grima who killed him in self-defense and trapped in the workshop for 1000s of years, with nothing but Forneus' rotting corpse and his twisted experiments after going off the deep end with that trauma festering for that long and no one to help them or talk to... WHO WOULDN'T BECOME SO DAMNED FULL OF HATE?!) to pull their own "Mighty King of Legend" cause Grima's also a tactician through and through and on top of it removing any chance of Robin and his family just going straight to him and rushing them, it'd force a battle of attrition on the Shepherds, forcing them to take down the Dead-Lords one by one, before they'd be ready to take down the Fell Dragon.

I’m so glad you mentioned Malefor. Very underrated villain, and the most epic boss fight I experienced on ps2.
What makes him more intimidating is his backstory. He was the first purple dragon, specifically the first dragon to master multiple elements, and the ancestor dragons, seeing the potential he possesses, decided to train him up. But then he got carried away and did a lot of horrible things, which led him to being exiled, and is what turned him into the dark master.
The main reason Spyro takes him more seriously than any other enemy is because that’s the one most similar to him. Similar to Luke Skywalker, Spyro is worried about also turning dark

If I remember correctly, the seven-pronged sword was made in Korea as a gift to Japan. It's still around and on display, I believe in a Buddhist temple. My history on this one is pretty fuzzy memory-wise and it's quite possible that the information I heard about this subject was inaccurate. Either way, I just wanted to point out that the seven-pronged sword is historically a real blade, just not one that could ever be used given it's design and massive size.

YAY! Malefor is on the list and better yet…YOU GET WHAT THERE IS TO ENJOY ABOUT THE FIGHT! As far as I know, he's the only dragon on this list to successfully destroy a planet, even though it was put back together in the end. But Kefka would still blush at his accomplishment. Think of how many died on the surface during that event on top of the population his army diminished over the three years he had been free.
Not to mention he had his own species nearly wiped out by enslaving the will of a little girl (Cynder) since birth and forcing her to commit genocide on her own race leaving her to bear the guilt. She's resilient considering how most would be driven insane by such an origin, possibly the biggest reason why I love her so much.
The spectacular atmosphere you mentioned combined with the lore that makes up Malefors story and accomplishments made the overarching villain of this low budget rush trilogy really impressive. Imagine what that universe could do with real funding and multiple years of development.

He was the Elden Lord of an ancient age, is made of gold and stone, breathes holy flame and conjures red lighting, and is basically dead by the time you meet him. The only reason you fight him at all is that he basically _rewinds time from beyond death_ to reconstruct his mausoleum. I was really hoping Darkeater Midir would be somewhere on the list. Definitely the best dragon boss in a Fromsoft game. One of the few dragons in Dark Souls that wasn't evil and battled against the Abyss for a long time, only to start being corrupted by it through constant exposure. Ask to put him down as mercy before he completely looses his noble mind, you have to run from him along the side of a cliff before doing enough damage to make him fall down into a pit before facing him in full. When you do, he is incredibly aggressive and has massive range on most of his moves. Can breath fire and uses it to keep people from chopping at his ankles, He also pulls out lasers and dark magic when he starts to get low. My big issue with Placidusax is that he is too passive with his bodily movement and just does too many aoe attacks which makes it annoying to fight him , he does start to teleport in p2 but even then he feels so slow , as a spectacle he is cool in p2 and better than Midir but as a fight based on mechanics Midir is superior no doubt and while spectacle is important , mechanics are more important .
Midir has a bigger moveset , is far more aggressive and acts like a pissed off dragon and the fight is encouraged for you to face him head on . Imo Black Dragon Kalameet is a better dragon fight than Placidusax too . Divine dragon has the best spectacle of all the From Soft bosses but mechanically it falls short , but still it is enjoyable as it doesn't drag too long .
If I had to rank them I would give Midir an S rank - the highest quality of boss , certainly the best dragon boss fight from From Soft and a top 10 boss fight in From Soft history . Black Dragon Kalameet I would say is an A rank boss fight , a high quality boss and the second best dragon fight .
Placidusax for me is a B rank boss , a bit of a letdown , still a good boss fight but not very enjoyable to fight which is my biggest gripe with it . I would put the Divine Dragon as B tier too but bellow Placidusax .

I was very surprised to not see Darkeater Midir either. Not only my favorite Fromsoft Dragon but it's my personal favorite Dragon boss I ever went against in a game. Placidusax and Kalameet aren't too far behind either.

@@saula8948 I find this ironic for me because I thought that Placidusax and Fortissax are spectacle-type bosses, and the fight is a sight to behold.
I just mindlessly hit them with my Greatsword while dodging lightning and fires easily.
Midir for me is just a big Rathalos that could spew lasers/magic and Kalameet...I literally forgot his fight, I killed him in one try, the only thing I could remember is the red eye. But then again, I am a MonHun addict, I eat big dragons for breakfast.

One of my most favorite Dragon boss fights was Tirnoch from Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning/Re-Reckoning basically when you first hear of her she's essentially portrayed as this goddess worshipped by Gadflow and the Tuatha Deohn and after various battles your character the Fateless One learns the truth from Dakkoafar(Dark Elf ally) Adyn Shir that truth being you two are part of an organization dedicated to keeping the imprisoned Tirnoch sealed away and imprisoned due to the fact she's one of the Titan Dragons a race of dragons who were the gods and goddesses of Amalur prior to the main gods and goddesses beating them and becoming the main pantheon of Amalur with Tirnoch being the Titan Dragon of Fate aka the OG Amalurian Goddess of Fate before the Fateless One's mother the current Amalurian Goddess of Fate beat her, and imprisoned her and took her role.
And when you confront the freed Titan Dragon she reveals that not only were you fated to fail and die during your first attempt to prevent the Tuatha Deohn from freeing her, but you coming back to life in Hughes's Well of Souls, and awakening your demigod/demigoddess of Fate powers aka Fateshifting, and being free from your mom's weaves of Fate was all her doing so you can unknowingly free her form her prison and steal your powers so she can wage war on your mom and the other gods and goddesses of Amalur.
And so the fight begins with the fight being a 3-stage fight and ease phase transition being signaled via Fateshift QTE which does some more damage and signals your starting to win with Phase 1 being her using her claws, tail, and fangs along with various energy attacks she fires from her mouth, and after the first Fateshift QTE Phase 2 begins and Tirnoch uses the attacks from Phase 1 while adding in clones of you made from Fate Energy for you to also deal with it though the clones when destroyed do give you Fate Energy which helps you out, and after another Fateshift QTE the 3rd and final Phase begins in which the attacks from Phase 1, and the clones added in Phase 2 are still used but she'll add in powerful offensive magic spells and once you whittle the last of her health away you'll do the final Fateshift QTE which sees you summon razor-sharp crystal projectiles made of Fate Energy which you fire at her to pin her to the cavern wall before using your manipulation of Fate to cause a cave in to imprison her,

Cue the How to Train Your Dragon music, folks!
10: So when you do light bosses and dark bosses, which one will this guy be on? (Moon Dragon Ze-Kalios (Ys Seven))
9: Never been a big fan of Fire Emblem, though the story for the new one seems interesting, and the dragon for that game looks EPIC! (Dheginsea (Radiant Dawn))
8: I am legitimately scared to ever go for this. THIS is why I haven't finished Legends: Arceus yet. (Giratina (Legends: Arceus))
7: There are not enough good lightning dragons in media lately. It's always the fire dragons who take it up, but lightning is hotter than fire, faster than fire, brighter than fire, and can cover just as much ground as fire. Justice for lightning dragons! (Hraezlyr (God of War 2018))
6: He looks and sounds like Smaug is going through an emo phase... AND IT WORKS! (Deathwing (World of Warcraft))
5: And Skylanders turned this guy into a skeletal dragon, of which the Undead Skylander Hex went to fight. I used to love Skylanders, but there were too many different creatures and lore and stuff. Just stick to a few races for characters, people! The Arkeyans were cool! (Malefor (Dawn of the Dragon))
4: I will never understand why people play these aggravating games. There's hoping for a challenge, and then there's straight-up masochism. Still, I don't kink shame. Just not what I'm into. (Divine Dragon (Sekiro))
3: The most surprise I have here is that Josh managed to keep these two from Number 1. Though I can't blame him for going with Fatalis... Again. (Fatalis & White Fatalis (Monster Hunter))
2: ...Is this guy's story just a more hardcore version of The Dragon Prince? Because I am getting some serious Dragon Prince vibes here. (Nidhogg (Final Fantasy XIV))
1: Now THIS is a dragon fight! (Grigori (Dragon's Dogma))

Orochi from Dragon Quest 3. As expected from its legend, it's a major obstacle in the hero's quest to defeat Baramos. Jipang is likely your first stop after you unlock the ability to change the vocations of the other party members, where you'll find many arranged sacrifices that Himiko/Pimiko declares necessary for the town to be spared.
The hero enters Orochi's Cavern of their own free will and comes face to face with its namesake. Given this version of the tale omits the sake, Orochi puts up a major fight... only to leave via dimensional portal when it is severely wounded, leaving behind the Orochi Sword (which is probably called that because the hero isn't native to Jipang).
The portal leads to Himiko's residence, where she has collapsed. Upon examining her, the party finds the same wounds they had inflicted upon Orochi. Turns out that "Himiko's" extreme solutions were only true from a certain point of view, for she had been Orochi's disguise all along! Realizing the hero found out, she communicates with them telepathically and threatens to burn Jipang if they don't turn a blind eye to her actions. If you call her bluff, she will revert to her true form and the fight will resume.
In modern releases, Orochi's second phase increases her stats, but thanks to the Orochi Sword, you can even the odds. If used as an item, it will use sap free of charge, reducing her defense. After finally finishing her off, the hero will obtain one of the five orbs and continue their quest.
Interestingly, there is a palette swap that only appears after Baramos is defeated and he also receives a decent buildup. After the hero has been following their father Ortega's footsteps for so long, they finally reunite. Too bad King Hydra is there to ruin any chance of a happy reunion as he executes Ortega by burning him to death. King Hydra is one of the three generals you have to fight back to back to face off against the real villain. Given his role, he's a damage sponge meant to deplete your resources so the other bosses can finish you off. He's also the only general that wasn't crafted using Baramos' remnants.
My only complaint with these two bosses is that Dragon Quest 3 was originally made before having a regular boss theme became standard practice in JRPGs, so they just use the regular battle theme. This has sadly been kept in every version thus far, so I hope Dragon Quest 3 HD2D doesn't follow suit.

You and your fireteam have just cleared all the other parts of the Last Wish raid, you're ready to face the final raid boss...AND THEN YOUR JAW HITS THE FLOOR. She is absolutely gargantuan, and it takes full coordination with your fireteam to take her down. It's considered the best boss fight in all of Destiny, and I 100% agree. It's a LONG fight, but never has a dull moment. And when you finally win, it's so satisfying. Bonus points if you get the raid exotic as well, as One Thousand Voices is a solid reward for your hard work.

When thinking of creative dragon bosses, I can’t help but think of the Black Dragon from Ever Oasis. His serpentine body and three eyes give him a unique look, and the fact that he can corrupt any animal or sentient being that he wants to, he can even possess people directly, taking great pleasure in watching the loved ones of the person he possessed struggle and suffer because they’re gonna need to hurt their loved one to even lay a finger on him, and will even try to guilt trip them into sparing him. And he doesn’t breathe fire, he breathes pure chaos and has many other abilities that connect to the chaos energy. (Oh, and he turned the entirety of Vistrahda, the area the game takes place in, into a desert)

Fun fact about White Fatalis, in Monster Hunter Frontier Z, you can fight a variant of White Fatalis known as G-Rank White Fatalis, whose red lightning storm is so powerful it can litterally INSTANTLY VAPORIZE any Hunter caught in it, instantly resulting in a Faint (thankfully gameplay wise it merely faints you as per any normal hunt, so you just get tossed back to camp on the cart).
