Still Ultima from Final Fantasy XVI explores both literal and metaphorical kinds of a god not only beign just a mythological kind. Exploring the concept of divine in a not so complicated and not so obvious way, making it part of the main plot and not sound so obvious and making the Discovery and uncovering its origins more worth it. And Chakravartin just reveal itself right in the ending, and almost no mentioning about or clue of its coming, just like in Final Fantasy 9 with Necron showing up in the ending, only difference is that its not a turn based kind of battle. Ultima boss fight is equally or even more, in my opinion, epic and glorious then Chakravartin. And the finally Ultima does not come in a full priced DLC that you had to wait till for how long and the story does not end incomplete like "to be continued", literally. Even though it didn't make it on the list, I'm happy that Void Termina was acknowledged in the number transition. I consider the final fight against it in the highest difficulty of Kirby Star Allies' arena mode to be the best Kirby boss, and given the kinds of final battles Kirby has on a regular basis, _that's saying a lot_. Not only is the fight itself pretty fun and varied (and the music really good, with the final phase having a rather somber track that lasts 6 minutes by itself), but the idea of Void reincarnating in different forms depending on the amount of positive and negative energy gathered is super fascinating from a lore perspective (and also implies that Void might turn into a 2nd Kirby-like being because of the core mimicking Kirby's face, which is wild).
I've always interpreted Void Termina being literally another incarnation of Kirby, with time/space shenanigans in play. As in, Kirby defeating Void Termina in the present of that game leading to his own creation as the Kirby that showed up at the beginning of the series in the past, and/or Void Termina being the Kirby of a different dimensional causality.
@@Shalakor Personally, I've never seen Void as literally being the same entity as Kirby. To me, Kirby seems related to Void in a similar sense to how Tigers and Leopards are related (they're both mammals/cats, but otherwise distinct animals). I think this way because while Kirby is a being of seemingly infinite possibilities (like Void) with his copy ability, his powers by default aren't as grandiose, which suggests to me that the two aren't quite the same. Plus, while the connection to Kirby during Void's boss fight is very clear, it feels more symbolic of Void being inspired by Kirby's heart rather than it being literally the same Kirby we know and love. The boss fight music heavily uses Green Greens, which is indeed Kirby's theme, but it also heavily uses the Song of Supplication, a theme associated with Hyness's Religion, which indicates Void becoming what Hyness wanted it to be: a vengeful God that would smite the universe out of bitter rage. Likewise, Green Greens indicates Void starting to become what Kirby wants it to be: a friend. Regardless, I think the fact tha we're having this discussion is proof of how awesome and interesting Void is as a concept.
I'm glad to see Etrian Odyssey referenced here. That series was one of the few I've followed over the years and more people should know about. One game I'm surprised didn't get onto the list at all is from Crosscode. You get a literal god fight against the four minor gods and the main god at the end of the last dungeon of the game in the DLC and there's the fight against the Avatar that's the climax of the main game.
Waiting for the eldritch bosses list if that one hasn't been done yet! "Who did you expect in the end of all this? God? The Devil, perhaps? No... It's just... *ME* "
A bit disappointed by the lack of Megami Tensei bosses like Brahman from Digital Devil Saga 2, Shekinah from SMT Strange Journey, Yahweh from SMT IV:F/A and Matter Lucifer (he absorbed Yahweh and transcended his existence, making him either a god or a being beyond a god) from SMT V. From gameplay perspective at the very least these are excellent bosses, while only Brahman and Yahweh have a more grand scale of spectacle.
What good timing, cause I started on an art piece for the final boss of an event in an Art Game I play. And She happens to be the Goddess of Life! And she is mad!!!
4:19 I actually remember playing the Simpsons Game as a kid. The story was crazy, the characters were very fun to play as, and the references to both video game history and the show itself were great.
The thing with Bahamut in dragalia gets increasingly more interesting when you know that throughout the several cygames titles, he is always destroying and remaking worlds. "Rebirth and destruction, here at my command. Rebirth and destruction, again and again."
2: If I did not have heard about FF VI beforehand, I´ve might enjoyed this fight more. 3: A boss fight with great comedy 8: Really enjoyable boss 9: Entertaining boss. Nice list, but there are some obvious bosses missing. Yami or Nyx Avatar for instance are missing (I would put them over that Simpsons boss fight).
Satan for demon bosses Elysium for holy bosses (Maybe also as a fallen hero?) Aurelius for best fathers (Even when he died, his alternate timeline self continued trying to support his kids all the way until he died too.) Bunch of healers, dragons and elemental bosses too. (Vote from me for each of those would be Cleo, Chronos and the Greatwyrms respectively.)
30:58 That's another SaltyDKDan Friendlocke reference! I doubt it's hinting towards anything but I'd watch you stream a friendlocke in a heartbeat! Also for another top 10 idea I'm thinking Knights, that'd probably be fun
i have a particular interpretation of chakravartin having his own qtes that i'm surprised i don't see elsewhere, but to be fair it has to do with a somewhat uncommon idea in gaming that the real world is a higher plain of reality inhabited by beyond god like beings compared to even god like beings in video games themselves, and by applying this to chakravartin, him having access to the players mechanics means he is so godlike that he's on our level, that his true form is practically a real person.
This is just me personally but Inominat from Tales of Berseria TLDR: Inominat has the power to manipulate the hearts and minds of the people, Arthur (the main antagonist) Sacrificed Velvet's brother Laphicet to give Inominat a new body which set off the events of the whole game, he also set up Therion demons who would feed off the wild roaming demons and generate limitless malevolence for Inominat to feed off and grow stronger. Later Arthur is able to use Inominat to suppress the wills of an entire city, causing them to only live for practicality and not emotion. Including one guy throwing himself off a cliff for not being useful. So of course the final boss is Arthur, then Arthur fused with Inominat. Plenty of powerful attacks, you need to be constantly on your toes, dodging and striking when you have the chance. It's borderline unfair at points but once you finish it you get one of the best endings in gaming history.
One honorable mention I'd like to bring up is YHVH from Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. In a series where you collect and fight gods like trading cards (sometimes literally), YHVH is special in a few ways. First, he's one of two bosses in the game who uses fully animated 3D models instead of 2D sprites, which is already jarring enough - the only other character who does that is Shesha, who I'm made to understand is the entity who destroys all of creation at the end of each cycle. Second, he's the ONLY fight in the game (aside from the DLC fight against the superboss Stephen) in which you swap back and forth between two parties in order to fight him. You and your demons alone don't cut it, you need the help of the cast of the previous game (two of whom were previously the leaders of the Law and Chaos factions, and also the final bosses of their game). Lastly, you don't fight him in the way you fight everything else. You can't just hit him really hard, partly because he resists *everything* except Almighty - forcing you to use a special ability to slowly lower his resistances in order to be able to do damage with anyone other than your main character - but also because he's different from every other demon in the game. You have to use the human power of "Understanding" and, either by yourself or with the help of your allies, refute every claim he makes to godhood in order to lower him to the level of a demon. You have to reject every lie and excuse he makes and expose him for what he truly is, literally altering reality in order to make him vulnerable. And when you finally do whittle him down, he goes from the infinite golden visage of the almighty to just another demon, albeit a terrifying one that can wipe you off the face of the universe if you aren't careful (and sometimes even if you are). He's one of the hardest mandatory bosses in SMT, and he really makes you feel like you're confronting the lord almighty. Also anyone who tries to say his name gets censored by the universe itself. Nobody else in SMT history has ever gotten that treatment. That alone speaks volumes if you ask me.
Where's the boss that appears during the countdown? That one where the hallelujah music plays? Looks pretty cool and was hoping to see you talk about it
Little surprised you didn't bring up Chrono cross, there are basically three gods in that game. Fate the computer that literally surpassed god, the dragon god(s) a single dragon deity that split in to seven lesser forms by said computer, and lavos (devowerer of time) who is basically a god of destruction.
a lot of JRPG god bosses are actually demiurges (because Japanese writers apparently love their gnosticism), but I guess they're still technically gods so it counts
A lot of these are mortals who gained godly powers. If Kefka counts anything goes. I always felt like SMT's depiction of YHVH and Yaldabaoth in Persona 5 (and other similar god bosses) arise in part from Japan's cultural fear of how the Christian god violently denies the existence of all other gods, having been originally brought in from outsiders.
In fact, I think the only genuine god final bosss in the numbered Final Fantasies are Cloud of Darkness, Necron, Orphan, and Bhunivelze. Unless there are ones I'm missing from 11 or 14.
@@MrAuthor3DSNecron to me is my image of fighting a God as the final boss. Seemingly a cold personification of Nihilism and Despair, more so a representation of an emotional experience that humans feel. Also, no mortal origin story and kinda Lovecraftian in design.
In my school vr game, there are 3 god bosses 1 is the Raiden shogun, which was more of a removal of the Skibidi Parasite fight next is Nhadakhan the Dijinn from Ninjago (at the time he can make his own wishes) which is a perthetic excuse of a boss and finally Jubileus who fight is in the Metal Gear Rising Revengance category

I'd argue that Jubileus could have easily been a full on part of this list, she's always so big, creates black holes that instantly kill you if you are sucked in and have to start over. She constantly alters the entire terrain, and even after you kill her by punching her soul into the sun, after summoning another goddess yourself-with some help-it's still not over as her body is falling to Earth and if you don't destroy it, the Earth will be destroyed itself.

I was hoping to see Odin from God of War here. That was one helluva boss fight.
One of my favorite God Bosses of all time is the final battle between Zeus in God of War III.
It's going to be a godly list
Absolutely Divine
Be merciful with his choices.
Booo
I throw a tomato!
@@AmericanBrit9834 “get off the stage”
4:21 Actually one of the first games I EVER played. Sadly it was *long* before I'd understand any of its many, many references.
Wait a minute… Chakravartin’s main method of attack is just… *_extreme_* tennis? With their fists?
Hey! It's nice to see Octopath at least get an honorable mention :)
2: If I did not have heard about FF VI beforehand, I´ve might enjoyed this fight more.
3: A boss fight with great comedy
8: Really enjoyable boss
9: Entertaining boss.
Nice list, but there are some obvious bosses missing. Yami or Nyx Avatar for instance are missing (I would put them over that Simpsons boss fight).
You should do a list on the Longest Video Game Raids. Like WoW's raids and Destiny's Raids
Now I'm wondering what other lists Dragalia bosses can fit on (unfortunately Volke and the twins missed their opportunity).
Giant bosses for sure with Phraegonoth or Chronos (different from GoW Kronos), Dragon bosses (obviously) and any of the elemental boss lists
Satan for demon bosses
Elysium for holy bosses (Maybe also as a fallen hero?)
Aurelius for best fathers (Even when he died, his alternate timeline self continued trying to support his kids all the way until he died too.)
Bunch of healers, dragons and elemental bosses too. (Vote from me for each of those would be Cleo, Chronos and the Greatwyrms respectively.)
Well they would absolutely have a spot on a dragons tier list i feel
30:58 That's another SaltyDKDan Friendlocke reference! I doubt it's hinting towards anything but I'd watch you stream a friendlocke in a heartbeat!
Also for another top 10 idea I'm thinking Knights, that'd probably be fun
Darn it, I had hoped to see a Hyperdimension Neptunia boss here, considering the main cast IS made out of Godesses. One day Kurome, one cay.
I think Death is a terrifying boss type though we could go all out with death in all media from games to movies to tv shows.
Level 1: Save a cat
Final level: Kill God!
Speaking of which, Ultima from Final Fantasy 16 would be my choice for this list.
i have a particular interpretation of chakravartin having his own qtes that i'm surprised i don't see elsewhere, but to be fair it has to do with a somewhat uncommon idea in gaming that the real world is a higher plain of reality inhabited by beyond god like beings compared to even god like beings in video games themselves, and by applying this to chakravartin, him having access to the players mechanics means he is so godlike that he's on our level, that his true form is practically a real person.
Anyone ever fought Bhunivelze from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13?
So super satisfying to take him down!
Brahma from Digital Devil Saga is an INCREDIBLE boss
I knew a diety boss fight list would be made at done point.
Honestly when I saw that Kefka wasn't number one, i knew itd be Chakravartin.
Goes to number 1 right at the transition i get a pizza ad that was perfect comedic timing
This is just me personally but Inominat from Tales of Berseria
TLDR: Inominat has the power to manipulate the hearts and minds of the people, Arthur (the main antagonist) Sacrificed Velvet's brother Laphicet to give Inominat a new body which set off the events of the whole game, he also set up Therion demons who would feed off the wild roaming demons and generate limitless malevolence for Inominat to feed off and grow stronger.
Kinda surprised that YHWH from Shin Megami Tensei didn't even make the honorable mentions list, considering that he's an enemy in so many.
Asura's "Extend arm" moment has to be one of the best-feeling moments in a boss battle... possibly in any game, ever.
1:53 - I'll take 'Web Animations That Aged Poorly' for 500, ghost Alex!
Where's the boss that appears during the countdown? That one where the hallelujah music plays? Looks pretty cool and was hoping to see you talk about it
Void Termina, Destroyer of Worlds, from Kirby: Star Allies.
19:54 Yeah, I don't know how Radiance thought this was a good idea
Little surprised you didn't bring up Chrono cross, there are basically three gods in that game. Fate the computer that literally surpassed god, the dragon god(s) a single dragon deity that split in to seven lesser forms by said computer, and lavos (devowerer of time) who is basically a god of destruction.
Kinda wish Shiva from SMT5 would have at least been an honorable mention....
Oh. I just remembered Detheven from Breath of Fire 2.
And Myria/Tyr from Breath of Fire 1.
a lot of JRPG god bosses are actually demiurges (because Japanese writers apparently love their gnosticism), but I guess they're still technically gods so it counts
@@MrAuthor3DS Originally Hades was going to be the final boss of FF 9, but they changed their minds and made him a super boss.
@@MrAuthor3DSNecron to me is my image of fighting a God as the final boss. Seemingly a cold personification of Nihilism and Despair, more so a representation of an emotional experience that humans feel. Also, no mortal origin story and kinda Lovecraftian in design.
"Give'em the energy balls"
Did Josh just use an audio clip from Friendlocke!? XD
You talking about the Simpsons game just makes me happy
Odin in Jotun is not trying to smite you down. He is testing you.
VISIL: ALL FORESTFOLK IN THE LABYRINTH MUST BE EXTERMINATED!! EXTERMINATE!! EXTERMINATE!!
PC: ...wait, God's a peppershaker?
Ashera just stole my heart.
Feel like if anyone hurt Josh's kid he would go FULL ASURA'S WRATH on them. Just a hunch...
I expect the next Top Ten list to be *Top Ten Superbosses*
Maybe because I’ve been playing it a lot…
BUT I WAS WAITING FOR YALDABAOTH!!!!😂😂😂
Noticed we've had multiple Kirby appearances recently...
Kirby month?
Honorable mentions:
1-Nireid
Tales of Eternia
2-Ende
Super Robot Wars X
3-Chaos
Sonic Adventure
4-Kali-Yuga
Super Robot Wars UX
5-Nevanlinna
Super Robot Wars V
6-Galactus
Marvel Vs Capcom 3
7-Shinnok
Mortal Kombat X
8-Necron
Final Fantasy IX
9-Hades
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
10-Ogre/True Ogre
Tekken 3
Suggestion: Top 10 Arcade Game Bosses
(Mainly because I would love to see you dive into House Of The Dead)
Sir Gideon ofnir: a human cannot kill a god
Every jrpg protagonist: hold my consumable healing item
Think he ever tried dressing up like Kefka
That Simpsons fight was the bane of my existence as a kid
I'd argue that Jubileus could have easily been a full on part of this list, she's always so big, creates black holes that instantly kill you if you are sucked in and have to start over. She constantly alters the entire terrain, and even after you kill her by punching her soul into the sun, after summoning another goddess yourself-with some help-it's still not over as her body is falling to Earth and if you don't destroy it, the Earth will be destroyed itself.
I thought there was going to be a persona god in the list. Still a great video.
Does Josh's style remind anyone else of the Channel Awesome types?
Wow. I'm surprised the final boss from P5 didn't make the list
I'll admit. I was hoping for Yaldabaoth or even the Demiurge from Strikers.
Heck, the God of Light, Bhunivelze I think deserved to be here.
I'm surprised Brahmin from Digital Devil Saga 2 didn't make it despite it being an awesome boss fight against the literal essense of hinduism.
2:35 I actually knew that before Legends Arceus came out, and it’s true in more ways that one. I learned that from VsBattlesWikia.
16:33 And also a Saurian, probably.
17:17 Amulets and Havik, the Mortal Kombat coincidences are piling up!
The fact the Hircine from elder scrolls 3 morrowinds bloodmoon or jyggalag from elder scrolls 4 oblivions shivering isles was missed off the list because of that tenchnicality from joshes rules 😂
after seeing Athena on the Devils countdown, I was fully expecting either Hydaelyn or The Twelve on here.
Technically you can still play Dragalia Lost. Just not officially. There's an emulator online that allows you to play the game again, if i recall you can even play it on pc
Is that a new Intro !?
It's so smooth
Let's be real here, we all knew the number 1 pick! This list was practically made for him!
Never change, Josh, never change! 😊
Fighting with God if you're religious must have a different feeling. You go from praying for repentance to dishing out your own righteous vitriol.
I almost shitted myself I thought he took out the intro he just made it better it’s cool
Side not, i fuckin LOVE dragalia lost, boutta redownload that rn
Never realized that we were actually dealing with an avatar of Arceus and not the actual one. It actually makes a lot of sense too
