i have a very distinct memory of the babies. they were flocked, but my best friend at the time had peeled the flock off due to sensory issues. so i was playing with skinless zhu zhu babies
me & my sister did the same thing bcuz we would play w them outside, and once when it was dewy out, the babies got wet so we rubbed off the skin. we hated that it wasnt soft anymore in certain areas, but we resulted in ripping off all the fuzziness because we didnt like how some parts were smooth and others were soft lmfao
I remember as a kid I used to LOVE going to the library not because of books, but because they had the zhu zhu pet game on their colorful childrens computers, I played that game until the library closed
when i was little, my mom had a blog and would sign up for chances to review prototypes of kids toys. she won the zhu zhu pet track, a bunch of zhu zhu pets, the babies, and a hamster ball. one thing i always remember is that the logos on the items said “go go pets” instead of zhu zhu pets, because they were from an earlier release. i loved them so much. i would put them in my best friends hair
33:55 there’s a few reasons as to why your Zhu Zhu pet may not move, I own one myself after all these years that still makes noises and the buttons work but just doesn’t move. I’ve checked for the following: 1. The rubber grips on the wheels are too worn down for it to move. 2. Low battery only causes them to make noise 3. There may be hair stuck deep within the hamster’s gears, you would have to open the toy fully to access the majority of it 4. A plastic gear within the hamster may have chipped or worn out, causing it to not line up to other parts. It’s basically impossible to access and repair it without breaking the plastic casing and finding the right parts. Based on the fact that you can hear the noise of it trying to move originally, I believe Jilly is dealing with issue #4 sadly. If the other hamsters are not turning on at all despite battery replacement, I think those systems are either fully shot and unable to be fixed or some sort of rust/corrosion. I’m not a technology expert but those are the most likely reasons based on my knowledge of the toy, also I HEAVILY grew up with the series so I’m glad everyone’s starting to talk about it Although I’m kinda sad that no one is talking about the interactive website they had literally called “the Zhuniverse”, that’s where the majority of the old unplayable flash games they had were originally from.
I remember that website! There was a personality quiz and I think a dress up game, among other flash offerings I don’t quite remember Also I have a faint memory of I believe a third party site with these amazing 3D maze games sort of like Mazin’ Hamsters from Webkins, except I was unable to play them. I think either the had games had been defunct when I found the site, or they were detailed game concepts that someone made. Either way I was devastated that I could never run through a 3D maze as Winkie
i had a MASSIVE zhuzhu pet collection when i was in elementary. i would pack literally everything up into big bags and take them to my little brother's tball games. most of my brother's teammates had younger siblings so when i started setting up my zhuzhu pets setup the toddlers would all flock to me and the moms would joke that i babysat for them so they could actually watch their child play on the team.
My sister and I used to play with our Zhu Zhu pets as veterinarians, so we would take all of them out (we had like at least ten of them) and make notes on various qualities like fur softness, speed, ability to travel in a straight line, and the quality of their speakers. We’d give them like ratings and diagnose them with “bad speaker” and other things along those lines lmaooo. Simpler days.
Zhu Zhu Pets was the shit. I had a small handful of hamsters. Mr. Squiggles would frequently come to elementary school with me and had that great carrier case and plastic house playset to stay in. We also collected a couple Kung Zhu hamsters. When they changed the designs of the hamsters and cut the roster down to the main four, it left a deep cut my soul. Never forgiving DreamWorks or whoever was responsible for that reboot.
Another absolute banger of a video that checks all my childhood boxes off from you. I used to watch Quest for Zhu ALL the time when I was a kid. If I put it on now a sleeper cell activation would occur in my brain allowing me to quote it word for word I bet.
@@lulaloopsey it's kind of nuts haha. But super memorable. Would definitely recommend. The music especially is wild. I won't go too much into it but there are some legendary Zhu Zhu remixes. They will play in your mind randomly when you're about to fall asleep haha
If you unscrew the screw on the bottom of them you can access the battery compartment, they take 2 AA batteries. And since they're old sometimes the gears split. In my channel I did a repair video of one of the gearboxes but it's old and I need to make a newer better version lol. Nice video, this was really detailed!
thanks so much! i actually saw your video about the reboot when i was looking for information on the zhu zhu aquarium before stumbling upon the article i showed 👍
@@lulaloopsey hearing that makes me smile more! I'm quite invested in these little guys ever since, so seeing zhus return again (as fish, which I loved in the 1st grade) has me hyped!! I'll of course keep on updating about them if anything occurs on here or in the Official ZhuZhu Pets wiki!
I wish I never sold all of my old zhuzhu pets, but I did save the very first one I got, which was Sweetie! I was so obsessed with them when I was like 5 and I’d watch the movie on repeat, no joke
Hi ! I'm from France, and the toys you're talking about at 23:53 were released in macdonalds there ( I had one as a kid, and I remember it vividly ) hope it helps :3 I love your videos, it's very nostalgic as a gen Z, and I love watching them ! (Dunno why but I like accumulating knowledge about random things ahah)
35:25 the reason she sounds so weird is probably because her batteries are close to dead. I had a talking animatronic cat as a kid that did the same thing, didn’t move but could produce sound, though it was altered in a way that came off almost demonic-y. I guarantee that if you open up the tummy somehow and replace the batteries that they’ll probably be working just the same afterwards. (The toy was a talking Seraphina from Barbie: The princess and the Pauper, for anyone curious ☺️)
I was unhealthily obsessed with these back in the day! Loved the video-one minor correction for both you and Athena P’s video-the orginal Zhu Zhu pets series didn’t just go in 2009. Up until late 2011-early 2012 they were releasing more classic hamsters. The later ones like Pumpkin and Snickleftitz came out then. They were released concurrently with the later stuff like the Wild Bunch and Puppies. So they were still making regular hamsters when those were out.
When Zhu Zhu pets were a thing my mom couldn't afford to get me an "official" Zhu Zhu pet so we got some off brand one that made a bunch of squeaking noises and would go forward and backwards. My brother and my cousin thought they were cool and wanted one. The knock offs were so cheap that my cousin and my brothers broke right away, and mine eventually stopped working since loose hair on the floor got tangled in the gears. Seeing this reminded me of my childhood watch Nickelodeon and seeing the commercials.
I got haunted by my Scoodles zhu zhu pet for years. I had packed it up in a box and whenever something jostled it I'd hear the dreaded "ready to go!" Followed by the sounds of wheels whrrring. Years. Years of misplacing the box in a closet, only to hear the little rodent taunt me from its box prison. I miss him.
I have Roxy. She came with a hair roller which always fell out of her hair. I got so sick of it that I decided Roxy needed to ditch the rollers and try a ponytail. She’s never gone back. Also, you forgot the magic Zus. They were like magic hamsters that were all plastic. I had one called Picadilly. There were also Abra, Madam Zu and Dinamo.
32:02 I went to check the views, thinking "oh man they surely hit over 100k by now" .... turns out the video is only 3 hours old, oops lol. Great quality of work, I bet you will definitely hit that number sooner or later.
i remember having to beg my dad to open my zhu zhu pets for me so he could remove the hair because i was 5 & was grossed out by hair lmao (still am tbh)
I love this video so much. I fucking loved these as kids! I was so mad when they redesigned the babies from matching the adults to this super cartoony stylized appearance. I had the DS games and LOVED it, racing was so fun.
Loved this video! I think i still have mine somewhere, i think i had NumNum and Mocha(?). They always used to get hair in their wheels. Last time i found her, Numnum made that same screaming noise. Side note: i hated what they did to babies. I thought they didnt look like their parents anymore.
10:13 Thank you unlocking this forgotten memory of mine. I wasn't into hamsters but I thought the Kung Zhu commercials looked cool. If only they were still around.
i actually remember watching the tv show after school! i loved the theme song a lot but i never watched more than like a handful of episodes maybe like 4? i do remember frankie being called polly actually so i guess i watchdd the original broadcasts lol. i loved zhu zhu pets but i never got to own one sadly. the new toys look so cute!
THE NOSTALGIAAAA OH MY GODD The stroller, the babies on their stoachs, THE GAMES? I still have that game and I play every now and then and get LOST in the mazes
I remember this things! I has one when I was little and it was one of my favourite toys because of how cute it was! I had Prince Dashington I believe? I just learned that they had names ... I loved him so much I'm glad you're talking about zhuzhu pets ❤️
I don’t know if you ever watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade but I think around when the movie came out, there was a float for the Zhu Zhu pets! I swear I remember seeing it and being like- really excited for the movie
I had so many of these, and a serious obsession with the DS games. I actually have a lot of them scattered around my moms basement (I only know because I moved a tote once and heard one of them go off) This took me back. The Wild Bunch clips did ESPECIALLY
Omg so much nostalgia in one video! I owned the first, forest, and princess dress! Plus you reminded me of a bunch of these toys I had which I had forgotten about😅
I’m super sick rn and earlier today I fell asleep watching your videos on autoplay and woke up to this 29:41 went huh? then immediately fell back asleep 😭
I never had the second generation Zhu Zhu Pet babies, only the first generation. I used to peel the felt off of them. Shout out to Scoodles and Jilly for getting stuck in my hair.
I remember having the a ninja or military hamsters. I would never turn them on just so I could roleplay with them and act out strange scenarios. (And for some reason I had two copies of the original Ds game and had different hamsters on each and I never even knew how to play)
There's a great episode of Doctor Who where there's a character called Talluluah. Not spelled the same way, but she's always been one of my favorites. Thought you might want to know :)
23:58 WRONG (unless im misinterpreting) the toys in the poster as far as the top ones go, were in fact mcdonalds toys because I HAD them (i think both the mr squiggles one and chunk) idk about you guys in the US but over here in portugal we got them at some point, i am unsure if it was around the release of the movie because i dont remember seeing in cinemas ever
28:36 Believe it or not, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic did this once with an episode surrounding Applejack and her family, re-recording every line to say apple juice instead of apple cider.
When you brought up one of them was named Friday I laughed specifically at that and not the other gibberish names like zee zee Louie peanut brittle or whatever I was a bit charmed by Friday
Oh this brings me back, ironically my sister got like, a Kung Zhu and the DS game, but I had Chunk growing up, I never got any of the playsets unfortunately, but this was a fun trip back to the past!
Omg my childhood! Thanks for doing this @lulaloopsey! Just as a suggestion, you should do a video on the Hasbro Baby Alive series! (Like the 2006-onward days.)
I used to play the Wild Bunch and Kung Zhu DS games all the time! So much nostalgia! I still have a few of the Kung Zhu toys and other Zhu Zhus, but they don't work too well anymore.
I brought out my old childhood zhu zhu pets to show my nephew and my dog started treating them like babies. Cutest thing ever watching her heard them in the kitchen
yaas i had soooo many like 2 huuuge boxes of them. i had the princess castle, the pizza shop and loads of the basic tracks. i moved into a different room tho with less space and i havent been able to use them for years. im 14 now but would still play with them now lol.
19:11 no no it’s lore now, you grew up inside the care bears universe and then were dropped into this universe at some point (we can workshop it but the general premise is the important part)
I remember these little beans, I had Nugget, still do, I had Kung-Zhu gear for him too owo that green armour with the gatling guns on the side and I wanted a car for him!!!!!! I was obsessed with Tumble Town Tales on TVO kids (Ontario, Canada babeyy, Toronto Gang) Thank u for making this video! I love this 2000s to early 2010s nostalgia stuff
I REMEMBER THESE! I had one (I don't remember which... it might have been Nugget?) But before I finally got it I remember begging to get one because a bunch of my friends had them and brought them to school and we'd play with them during breaks in Class, and I saw the commercials everywhere for them. Wow, memories...
i got reminded of zhu zhu pets from that tiktok that was like ‘when my dad yelled at for me for getting my zhu zhu pet’s wheels stuck in his chest hair’. theyre very fun but i always remembered them having hair in the wheels
when i was younger my elementary school had a carnival that had a raffle that had a bunch of cool toys and bikes and giftcards and one year everyone in my family won the raffle except me so i cried super hard and one of the ladys running the raffle felt bad so she gave me one of the prizes they ended up not using for the raffle and it was a zhu zhu pets set. it didnt come with a zhu zhu pet and i ended up not getting a zhu zhu pet until after that set was long broken but getting that set but i loved it and it made my day as a kid.
Sometimes old Zhu Zhu Pets need their wheels spun around a few times to get them to move again instead of making that screaming sound lol. I had *many* that now all live in my curio cabinet, and most of them surprisingly still work.
i actually got to meet ian james corlett back in october! i got his signature on some official art of glitch bob from reboot. he's a cool guy! it took until the movie section to realize i had conflated zhu zhu pets with g-force? wild honestly, i clicked on this video while vaguely remembering the guinea pig with earrings. i honestly forgot they had playsets at all for zhu zhu pets and kind of assumed they only released a couple of hamsters, not the insane amount they actually did release! back when they first came out, my siblings and i each got one for christmas. unfortunately i was getting a little old for them at that point and weirdly i think the novelty wore off for me because i had multiple pet hamsters (opposite from you, i suppose!). i remember seeing one of them just sitting on the kitchen counter LMAO no idea why. EDIT: just as a fun fact, i know of another show that got redubbed after a hiatus! "whatever happened to... robot jones?" originally had the main character, robot jones, with a robotic sounding voice. apparently they got complaints and after a break, the rest of the episodes were released with a completely different, non-robotic voice and the earlier episodes were redubbed to match, if memory serves. also pretty sure those early episodes with the robot voice were lost media for awhile!
I remember having a pair of Sweeties as a kid. The most interesting thing to me was that the set of noises and voice lines they made upon pressing the nose differed between the two.
I used to have some Zhu Zhu pets. I got them when they first started off around Christmas time. I only ever had Gen 1, though. I got bored of them rather quickly because whenever I had them out, my dad would keep messing with them and putting them on the carpet. Their wheels got a lot of hair in them because of it and they eventually just wouldn’t move anymore. It just wasn’t fun playing with them anymore.
I absolutely loved the zhuzhu pet I had and was so upset when it got lost during a move from one state to another. I had a Mr. Squiggles and i loved how in my kid brain it looked so realistic
There were also lil keychain plushies!!!! Which I remember bc I had one in the second grade, I put it on my backpack and excitedly showed my friends, but it "mysteriously" vanished by the time we got our bags at the end of the day. And my friend just so happened to have one just like it the next day! But since there was no solid proof and no witnesses to prove she stole it, nothing happened and I'm still bitter about it 13 years later. Not gonna use a name but if you're reading this you know who you are and I still haven't forgiven you.
i vividly remember my dad renting me the zhu zhu pets movie as a kid but the only part of the movie i remember is the musical sequence where the zhu zhu pets performed “abc” by the jackson 5
I have a distinct memory of one time bringing my zhu-zhu play set over my friends house and we for some reason thought it would be smart to put her actual hamster in it. He got stuck. Luckily her mom was able to get him out unharmed 😅
Oh my god, this reminded me of when I would play with zhu zhu pets on my front lawn, and my friends would bring their 2 guinea pigs over to act as rulers of the zhu zhu pets. Then one day one of the guinea pigs ran and hid in the bushes, and it took my mom FOREVER to get the little guy out. Snickers and Reeses were no longer allowed to be brought to my house lmao
i went to catholic school from Kindergarten to 8th grade (from 2007-2016). in 2nd grade, the school had a chocolate fundraiser and all pf the prizes were zhu zhu pets and accessories. they even had the car and house peices, the total merchandise amount had to be over 1000 dollars worth. The school even had a glass display built into the wall and i immediately loved them. i didn't participate, but asked for them for Christmas that year. My parents got me the entire set including the car and a surf board. i had every single one (including Mr. Squiggles).
I had Zhu Zhu pets as a kid and the first DS game. I loved the game but one day the cartridge slipped out of my hand and fell in between the car cushions where the seatbelt buckle is. I never found it again. And I loved playing the games on the website. I was hoping you'd talk about thise more. My favorite game was the ninja one because I loved ninjas and "boy" toys. Surprisingly, I didn't have any Kung Zhus, though.
I had the dark brown hamster. I wanted the playsets and some more hamsters as a kid but just ended up having the dark brown robot hamster. I looked him up and his name is Scoodles apparently. I think I should've been more grateful that I even got a Zhu Zhu pet like on TV.
I loved zhu zhu pets so much as a kid, I remember I wasn't able to afford them but a family friend had 3 of them and we would always race them in his attic with my cousin. My sister also owned the second Ds game and I was never able to win a race against a certain wild one in the treehouse level. The few times I was able to beat them, I finally made it to the circus level... only to get lost in another level where everything felt like a maze. (I don't remember the order of the areas but I do remember getting lost in those points the most. But I love it dearly and I still have the game :D )
Ian-James Corlett is one of the like two dozen voice actors who are in seemingly every cartoon to come out of Canada. Personally when I think of him the first role that comes to mind is Mega Man in the corny '90s cartoon

Omg I was so obsessed with theses as a kid. Ty so much for the throw back your channel is such a treasure trove ^^
I’m super sick rn and earlier today I fell asleep watching your videos on autoplay and woke up to this 29:41 went huh? then immediately fell back asleep 😭
I never had the second generation Zhu Zhu Pet babies, only the first generation. I used to peel the felt off of them. Shout out to Scoodles and Jilly for getting stuck in my hair.
omg i did the same and also had jilly & scoodles (plus winkle) lmao thats so weird
I remember having the a ninja or military hamsters. I would never turn them on just so I could roleplay with them and act out strange scenarios. (And for some reason I had two copies of the original Ds game and had different hamsters on each and I never even knew how to play)
I loved these little hamsters :)
all I remember about zuh zuh pets is constantly getting the wheels caught in my hair lmao
28:38 Layla/Aisha in Winx: am I a joke to you?
There's a great episode of Doctor Who where there's a character called Talluluah. Not spelled the same way, but she's always been one of my favorites. Thought you might want to know :)
OMG truly collecting all the characters named Talula or Lula like pokémon cards 🤭
I’m so happy to have a new favorite TH-camr
I’m autistic and Zhu Zhu pets was my very first special interest I remember having! My favourite ones were Peachy and Pinkie.
23:58 WRONG (unless im misinterpreting)
the toys in the poster as far as the top ones go, were in fact mcdonalds toys because I HAD them (i think both the mr squiggles one and chunk)
idk about you guys in the US but over here in portugal we got them at some point, i am unsure if it was around the release of the movie because i dont remember seeing in cinemas ever
I had a cat named tulula bell lol that's so cool ! Also your videos help with my anxiety! Your an excellent journalist
I LOVE that you did a deep dive into this!! One thing though is that I'm pretty sure that "IO" isn't "ten" but like "eye-oh" LMAOOO
I used to watch Quest for Zhu ALL THE TIME
Omg my childhood!
19:11 no no it’s lore now, you grew up inside the care bears universe and then were dropped into this universe at some point (we can workshop it but the general premise is the important part)
i just got flooded with memories upon seeing the zhu zhu puppies game. i had it and i think miss priss was my favorite because i had the toy also.
I remember these little beans, I had Nugget, still do, I had Kung-Zhu gear for him too owo that green armour with the gatling guns on the side and I wanted a car for him!!!!!! I was obsessed with Tumble Town Tales on TVO kids (Ontario, Canada babeyy, Toronto Gang)
Thank u for making this video! I love this 2000s to early 2010s nostalgia stuff
I loved Frankie and the Zhu-Zhu Pets or Polly and the Zhu-Zhu Pets series but I only remember the Frankie version and not the Polly version. 32:53
I still have my pink and grey zhu zhu pets, loved those little dudes!!!
I was half asleep watching this and the scream towards the end scared me awake :,)
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
i had the zhu zhu puppies ds game, it came with the puppy cursor and everything, i loved it so much :’)
i got reminded of zhu zhu pets from that tiktok that was like ‘when my dad yelled at for me for getting my zhu zhu pet’s wheels stuck in his chest hair’. theyre very fun but i always remembered them having hair in the wheels
when i was younger my elementary school had a carnival that had a raffle that had a bunch of cool toys and bikes and giftcards and one year everyone in my family won the raffle except me so i cried super hard and one of the ladys running the raffle felt bad so she gave me one of the prizes they ended up not using for the raffle and it was a zhu zhu pets set. it didnt come with a zhu zhu pet and i ended up not getting a zhu zhu pet until after that set was long broken but getting that set but i loved it and it made my day as a kid.
I used to think g-force was a zhu zhu pet movie 😭😭
I remember a little bit of The Zhu Zhu Pets! when I was little
Sometimes old Zhu Zhu Pets need their wheels spun around a few times to get them to move again instead of making that screaming sound lol.
I remember having one of the track sets, renting the zhu zhu pet movie from my local blockbuster, and having the first two games.
I remember having a pair of Sweeties as a kid. The most interesting thing to me was that the set of noises and voice lines they made upon pressing the nose differed between the two.
Me and my sisters had gotten them and they were so cute the one w/ swirl on the back was the one I remember playing with most vividly
I still have the zhu zhu princess game. I remember stuggling to complete the game and i still havent ToT
I had the St. Patrick’s Day Zhu Zhu Pet and I used to watch The Zhu Zhu’s animated show on Disney Channel!
CHUNK WAS MY BESTIE!!!!!!!!!!! He was my fav i love him so much i wonder if my dad still has my zhu zhu pets
I LOVED the first gen Zhuzhus and the DS game and I have very distinct memories of getting the wheels stuck in my hair
no because a deep dive into mcdonalds happy meal toys or just fast food meal toys in general would hit LIKEEEEE
You gave the Lula puppy the same energy I had when you said Princess Chloe 🎉
I got a couple of these from a garage sale as a kid, I had no idea what they were called or anything so this is cool to see
My hamster was called Skittles too and my jaw dropped when i looked back at the screen and saw he also looked exactly the same as well XD
This was super fun to watch! Also You should do a my little pony video sometime :D
Not gonna use a name but if you're reading this you know who you are and I still haven't forgiven you.
crying cause pamplemousse is the french word for grapefruit… why did the show name her that 😭😭😭😭
i vividly remember my dad renting me the zhu zhu pets movie as a kid but the only part of the movie i remember is the musical sequence where the zhu zhu pets performed “abc” by the jackson 5
I remember going to a store as a child in the early 2000s specifically for these pets, Drayko was my favorite fs
YES ! FINALLY !! i still have to this day a little zhuzhu pet that is a pink bunny named sweetie, i was obsessed with it as a kid LOL
I have a distinct memory of one time bringing my zhu-zhu play set over my friends house and we for some reason thought it would be smart to put her actual hamster in it. He got stuck. Luckily her mom was able to get him out unharmed
😅
Oh my god, this reminded me of when I would play with zhu zhu pets on my front lawn, and my friends would bring their 2 guinea pigs over to act as rulers of the zhu zhu pets. Then one day one of the guinea pigs ran and hid in the bushes, and it took my mom FOREVER to get the little guy out. Snickers and Reeses were no longer allowed to be brought to my house lmao
I remember these so fondly. I vividly remember my hair getting caught in the wheels when I put them in my bed to sleep with me
i went to catholic school from Kindergarten to 8th grade (from 2007-2016). in 2nd grade, the school had a chocolate fundraiser and all pf the prizes were zhu zhu pets and accessories. they even had the car and house peices, the total merchandise amount had to be over 1000 dollars worth.
But I love it dearly and I still have the game :D )
took me about halfway thru the video to realize we're wearing the same sweater lol. i remember spending so much time on the og ds game
My childhood nickname was zuzu pronounced the same as zhu zhu and kids would call me zhu zhu pet 👍 I did have the one named zuzu we were twining
MY CHILDHOOD 😍
Ian-James Corlett is one of the like two dozen voice actors who are in seemingly every cartoon to come out of Canada. Personally when I think of him the first role that comes to mind is Mega Man in the corny '90s cartoon
