The Downfall of Boomerang
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 11 มิ.ย. 2024
- it's been 24 years exactly since Boomerang officially launched as a spin-off of Cartoon Network. With the catchphrase "it's all coming back to you" the channel was advertised as being "designed for the whole family" yet it would be destroyed by that very same concept years later.
Boomerang was truly a one-of-a-kind unique viewing experience & i'm convinced those bumpers will be stuck with me forever! Luckily compared to other channels i've covered this story has a bit of a happier ending.

before y’all comment **JANE JETSON i meant jane when i was talking about mother’s day judy is their daughter 😭
Jane Jetson is one of my favorite Hanna Barbera characters!
there's also a block on boomerang focused on HB content, called Hanna Barbera's Cartoon Corral. I completely find it crazy as it shows a lot of HB cartoons.
I remember she was mistaken by Mr Spacely in the movie to be her at first so there’s that.
Do cubo the name might not be right
@@badtothebonefanrock1250 you mean Qubo?
I miss how Boomerang used to use toys as bumpers😢 I miss the good old days.
Legit I still want those toys.
Yeah, I missed the bumpers with the toys
The toy animations in Boomerang promos were serene and at times lost childhood memory :)
부메랑 프로모션 속 장난감 비주얼은 고요하고 때로는 어린 시절의 추억을 잃어버리기도 했습니다 :)
FRR!!! It was very unique and nostalgic✨
"It's time for Boomerang-A-Long. Get ready to sing along!"
the intense wave of emotion i felt when i heard "youre watching boomerang from cartoon network" is unmatched
It brought me back fr
nostalgia hit me like a freight train
As someone who grew up around the final years of the original Boomerang era, it's pretty depressing to see what Boomerang has come to. But I'm glad to see someone talk about Boomerang and its history.
Same kinda? I used to be scared of the old boomerang and when I decided to watch it again since I haven’t in a while
BOOM, IT CHANGED. I was so shocked
Same
No it's not. Current Boomerang is great. They added more variety to the network recently. Recently they started playing Popeye.
Sameee
Current boomerang is dope. Reruns of looney tunes... Let's gooooo
the way i can hear the bumpers even though they're muted😭😭
The gorilla for sale song will forever hold a piece of my heart. I remember when I was little, my dad and I would sing it all the time. He recorded it on a VHS tape when I was at my moms house as a surprise for when I came back. It’s obsolete now since I don’t own a VCR and I can look it up on youtube whenever but I will take that VHS tape to my grave.
That song & ‘Signal in the Sky’ still pop into my head from time to time
That song still randomly gets stuck in my head sometimes.
Yuhhhhh that shit was a certified banger
That song lives in my head rent-free.
The Flintstones was actually nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1961. That’s pretty amazing. An animated series wouldn’t be nominated again until 2009 when Family Guy got in
it’s truly amazing what they were able to accomplish with animation! & impact that has lasted even decades later among newer generations.
The Flintstones wasn't conceived of as a children's cartoon. It was conceived of as a family sitcom. That's why Fred smokes Winston cigarettes.
The OG adult cartoons: Flintstones & Lupin III.
@@LikaLarukuI didn't catch Lupin III part 2 when it aired on Adult Swim when I was young, but I watched Castle of Caglistro as a kid. Forgot about him and then remembered him again as an adult and I'm fucking obsessed with the series ❤ Lupin III is lit 🔥
I still don’t understand why they changed the logo. It’s supposed to be a Boomerang because a boomerang comes back, like how classic cartoons are coming back when you watch the channel!!! 😭😭😭 I’m at least glad that they started airing the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons again as of this year, including Laff A Lympics, Wacky Races, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Top Cat, even Wally Gator for a little while
RIGHT??? i’m surprised i didn’t come to this conclusion too i should’ve mentioned the logo
Actually the new logo is just a squared off version of a Boomerang.
Unfortunately my cable provider (Xfinity), dropped Boomerang in May 2019 and I haven't seen it since. As for Cartoon Network that channel has completely gone down hill. The new cartoons they have now sucks and the only time I watch it is when they show reruns of Bob's Burgers on adults swim. Glad she did this video on the classic Boomerang. As for me I think the only way for me to watch Boomerang is to go online or through an app, not really sure.
@@lee120458 I think you’re crazy to say CN has gone downhill when Checkered Past and their weekend schedules exist
I kinda don't have a problem with the new logo, tho... Sure, I love the Boomerang logo when it was just a weird-looking "B" or the international "cursive" logo like always, but I just think the 2014/15 logo, at least, has some charm and look unique than that horrible LA logo.
Idc. The 2006-2014 Latin American Boomerang logo has to be one of the worst logo rebrands I've ever seen imo.
I was a Boomerang kid. My mom was picky about what shows we could and wouldn't watch. (Even most Nicktoons were banned except for the DreamWorks imports and, of course, Spongebob.) I can’t believe anyone thought it was a good idea to turn the hub of old nostalgic cartoons into the CN equivalent of Nicktoons Network.
Very controlling Parent eh?
It was the same with my parents, we couldn't watch most shows (including SpongeBob), so boomerang was one of the few channels we could watch freely
Did we have the same childhood? Also by the time I was 16 my mom switched from protector mode to call the cops on me for "backtalking" or arguing with them.
Turns out they were psychopaths actually😅
All the kids with super strict parents I knew growing up weren’t allowed to watch SpongeBob
@@kaylaadjekum6270Couldn't even watch Adventure Time just because the pilot episode made a poop joke
Fun Fact: The announcer in the bumpers is Jeff Bergman who voices Fred Flintstone George Jetson Yogi Bear Mr. Jinks Wally Gator on Jellystone as well as Bugs Bunny Daffy Duck Sylvester and Elmer Fudd
don’t worry i talk about him! we love jeff bergman here 🫶
@@lulaloopseyHe's A Legend.
The announcer of this channel did such a good job.
I had a friend in high school. He owned 2 of the wind up toys from the boomerang ads and even did a podcast dedicate to boomerang.
That's awesome!
I will never forget the transition from pre 2015 to 2015 boomerang as someone who is also a gen z kid seeing more modern shows on there and being confused as heck. I’m glad the channel is doing better again as these older cartoons shall influence the next generations as they always have
I’m like 10 years older than you and was OBSESSED with the Powerpuff girls as it was airing. Like I had multiple birthday parties themed around them. Hearing you went out of your way to watch the show on Netflix brings me sooo much joy tbh
it’s truly such a good show! i remember watching the reboot as it aired years later & being extremely disappointed
Unpopular opinion but I think Boomerang is good again. They got rid of the pointless Gumball and TTG reruns and brought back all the classic Hanna Barbera shows. It's not perfect but I'll take what I can get because it probably won't last. Cable is dying a long, slow, painful death.
dude boomerang is a core memory because i remember seeing old cn tv shows, tom and jerry, and old looney tunes at my grandma’s house as a kid, and the bumpers from the mid-late 2010’s are engraved in my head, especially that kid who would say ‘it’s time for boomerang theatre’
Quick note: one theme song they would play all the time on boomerang was the banana splits theme song
I think the banana splits and hr puf stuff deserve a big deep dive cause alot of those shows just got on to streaming recently
But that song made it to nimona for some reason and now a new generation of kids will know it for being in nimona 😭
Remind a me of The Banana Splits theme being used in Kick Ass
Yeah I’m pretty sure they put it in Nimona because her voice actress was in Kick-Ass, which also used that specific cover
@@LovelyLivelyV ah now it all makes sense
But now why did they put it in kickass 🕵️♂️
Yeah, I remember the Banana Splits theme song playing so much, and being so delightful, despite the show itself never airing? At least not when I was watching it? Anyway, that was still enough of an emotional connection for me to be quite annoyed when I found out they were being brought back as a _FNaF coattail-chaser!_ Of all possible things!
What?
Thank you so much for making this.
It's unfortunate that this happened. I'm apart of the Boomerang Lost Media community and a lot of these original bumpers have been lost and haven't been found in years, some since 2015, and some have been lost since as early as 2000. This channel gave me so much joy as a kid and it's great to see videos being made about it even some 9 years after the rebrand.
You should be proud, keep up the great work, Lula. ♥
"i got a gorilla for sale, magilla gorilla for sale" has been burned into my brain
I was a real youngin’ when Dexter’s Lab and Powerpuff Girls aired on TV, so it doesn’t bug me that it was on Boomerang. What really pissed me off was when later stuff was added in, like Regular Show.
For me, it was even pushing it a little when they had some Pokémon from around 2003. To me, anything older than 10 years old was valid (with preference to generations old stuff).
Same. I was also pretty young when those shows aired, so most of my memories watching those shows as a kid was on Boomerang.
Here in Latin America, Boomerang was a channel for teenagers from 2008-2014, they even aired Pretty Little Liars.
Yeah, but I remember how much publicity it got when it launched and how many old Hanna-Barbera shows they used to air, they even aired some old anime like Speed Racer/Meteoro and Kimba. When it became a teen/tween channel I mostly ignored it, until I founded out that they rerun some anime shows that first aired on Cartoon Network, like Sakura Cardcaptor
Funnily enough thanks to Boomerang they ended up cementing into younger generations the Top Cat cartoon as the meme toon because the dub used actors with a heavy yucateco accent (especially the pink one, he's become a modern Mexican meme making fun of how people from Yucatan speak)
Sorry
I still don't understand why in just latam?? im from Argentina and i pretty remember that era
So I’m from Canada. Our equivalent to this was Teletoon Retro (at least I think that’s what it’s called). And for those of you who don’t know, Teletoon and Cartoon Network had a close relationship back in the day. That’s how y’all got shows like Total Drama and Johnny Test (sorry for that one). It was also how I experienced Adventure Time as a kid
Gosh I miss Teletoon! I found out recently that apparently Teletoon as a whole fully merged with them and now all we have is Cartoon Network 🥲. All those channels is what raised me into liking the kind of shows I’m into today ❤!
@@phelinmelon1007 i loved teletoon retro downnn, i remember being so pissed when they merged because the regular teletoon programming blocks were really bad (hours and hours of johnny test) and i had hated all of the new shows airing on family channel😭
I remember I used to watch the channel a lot as a kid, in fact I think i barely even watched the channel after the rebrand. 2011-2013 were the times I remember the most fondly, I recall they also aired old episodes of pokemon, which I would also watch.
I remember watching Pokémon there when I was 6 years old. That was my full on full eyes memory of it. That was way back in season 1, near the end of it when looking back.
The "Grab your ticket and take a seat, It's Boomerang Theater" IS ICONIC!! AND I personally lived the reboot time but Boomerang still was one of my fav channels...
I hated every movie they aird
That part did bring back some memories
I miss the (classic) Boomerang in the 2000s. Thanks for using my videos I uploaded!
Anyone remember the 1 minute cartoons they’d play inbetween bumpers and scheduled shows like NACHO BEAR. Like I’ve been obsessed with the “Perfect Chip” since I first watched it.
Those were old late 2000s cartoon network shorts as well! They were called cartoon network wedgies!
You just wrinkled somethin deep in my brain bro I loved nacho bear so much
I remember the spicy troll interstitials, the ones with fake cartoons like Frothy Dog, Heidi & the Yodelers, Salt & Slug, & Rupert the Grouper.
Also 2 extremely edgy Yogi Bear shorts by John Kricfalusi.
I remember first watching Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, etc on Boomerang too. I was only a baby when they stopped airing on Cartoon Network, and I was mostly watching Noggin and PBS Kids at that point. But when I got to elementary school, I started watching Boomerang and I found the older Cartoon Network shows
A show I don't see as many people talk about is Wacky Racers. It was a favorite of mine when I was little, and I have fond memories of watching it when I woke up earlier than expected on weekends and couldn't get back to sleep ❤
Wacky Racers is something I always wanted to watch, but never got around to. I hear it had a really good respectable reboot too.
In 1990, there was a spin-off of it called "Fender Bender 5000" that was (probably) exclusive to a show called "Wake Rattle & Roll" & I loved it.
Wacky Races was Goated dude
In early middle school, I was really obsessed with animation channels and even made timelines on my chromebook of when shows would air and be canceled. I'm a senior in high school now, and I'm still eating up this nostalgic content! It makes me so happy to see that others care about this like I did back in the day. It takes me back to such a simpler time! Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us 💕🩷
(ALSO, OMG!! THAT JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCAT MUSIC VIDEO LIVES IN MY HEAD RENT FREE!)
Thank you! Finally someone gets us old boomerang fans.😭 Boomerang, it's all coming back to you.
as a 2000s kid, I haven't heard of the boomerang channel when I was young, but I have heard about as I remember watching it when I visit some family members who have the boomerang channel and I was given the taste of what it had to offer and I loved it's logo, as it made perfect sense cause it's a boomerang. I remember in 2012 my family switched cables andI was able to watch the boomerang channel before it rebranded into Cartoon Network TOO aka CN clone with various shows that we're for cartoon Network we're shoved over to boomerang.
born 2001, boomerang was alwayyssss on at my house, the bumpers were iconic and it got SO SPOOKY at night for boomeraction... the aura for boomerang might be the most powerful on all tv
They’re still airing the same bumpers from 2015 over and over. It gets aggravating after a while.
“grab your ticket and take a seat!”
They don’t air this one anymore, but they always used to air this Tom and Jerry promo that went “what’s the matter with that crazy cat?!?”
Right?! It's insane to think that it's been close to 10 years of the exact same bumpers & promos from the rebrand.
That kid announcer is probably in his late teens by now.
Smh...
God those are so fucking annoying. I hate how the Tom & Jerry one constantly switches between "What's the matter with that crazy cat?" and "Where's your sense of humor," and taking random dialogue to try and match it to the rhythm of the music playing.
Then there's the other one where he's describing all of the factory-produced, bland and boring Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry movies, where the former is just a bunch of padded out episodes, and the latter is just some random premise with the 2 shoehorned in. Oh and Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo every few months I guess.
It's like they forgot the channel even existed.
i remember specifically watching scooby doo movie marathons on october sundays when i was in high school (2014-2018) and i called it “spooky scooby sunday”
I remember them having Scooby movie marathons in October on the late 90s.
Boomerang holds a very special place in my heart it's one of the channels I grew up with as a kid and I remember liking the theme song and its usage of rampwalker toy versions of the characters. I also remember being very scared of the Boomeraction bumpers for some reason.😅
This video actually awoke memories in me. I had vague memories of the original Boomerang bumpers, but was so confused when they got changed to the new animated ones. And as a more Disney-centered kid, I had no clue what the difference was between Cartoon Network and Boomerang, since most of my memories of watching came from the later years. Also, no one I talk to has ever heard of the Jetsons, so I feel so validated.
CHILDHOOD DEFINER. This channel had a WAY bigger presence in my childhood than Cartoon Network ever did. I loved this channel so much that I have its theme music as my phone's ringtone. And I even made up my own lyrics for it as well.
28:07 I VIVIDLY REMEMBER THIS. I WOULD ALWAYS TURN IT OFF AT 8 BC I DIDNT WANNA SEE TEEN TITANS GO💀
I remember when they accidentally aired a garfield show bumper after Nickelodeon bought out garfield.
I’ll be honest I didn’t plan on subbing on Patreon until you told me there’s a BTS video of you creating the intro.
That intro gives me so much life I can’t wait to see the story behind it.
excited to do more fun stuff there i have some bigger videos coming up!
It’s kinda sad how far Boomerang has fallen from grace.
I actually didn’t watch much of the Hanna Barbera cartoons. The main draw for me was always the ‘90s stuff- Teen Titans, Dexter’s Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc.
those always aired from 8-10 pm, which feels fitting. Airing Teen Titans Go is crazy to me.
The 'Top Cat' movies you're referring to were made for Mexico because he's supposedly more popular down there than in America.
I went through a phase where boomerang was the only channel I’d consistently flip to watch. The Nickelodeon sitcoms weren’t doing it for me, Disney was hit or miss, and CN itself had good stuff, but not always. This vid made my heart happy
Boomerang was how I got exposed to so many great shows, cow and chicken, Dexter's lab, PPG, teen titans, samurai jack. I wouldn't have been exposed to All these classic shows if it weren't for boomerang.
Also, the Elephant from The banana splits show used to terrify me as a youngling and when they played the song as a music video during the commercial break, I always changed the channel.
When I watched Boomerang, it was 100% cartoons from the 1950s - 1970s. All the shows you mentioned were prime time shows on Cartoon Network.
One thing I remember was when CN would air promos where it was Shaggy sitting on a couch encouraging the viewers to check out Boomerang. Those promos bummed me out bc at the time my family couldn’t afford more channels like Boomerang or TeenNick, Disney XD, etc.
I have a really fond memory of sleeping over at my aunt and uncle’s house and staying up probably too late while everyone else was asleep watching Boomerang since we didn’t get it. I remember seeing the episode of Powerpuff Girls where Mojo babysits the girls(AKA the one where the mayor is playing Zelda and kills Navi)and the one where everyone switches bodies. I also remember also seeing the episode of Johnny Bravo where pretends to be a superhero and fights the candy guy. I really wish I had seen more of the original Boomerang because it sounds like they had a ton of stuff on it. I really don’t get what the point of the revamp was if the whole point was airing classic shows. Especially since, as you said, they tried to fix what wasn’t broken.
I have been obsessing over boomerang for so long and I’m so glad somebody’s finally talking about it
Hey, lulaloopsy. I’m a 2005 guy here. I love your videos that cover the history of our generation of kids channels. They bring back so many good memories of my childhood. I would appreciate it if you covered more channels like Nicktoons Network, Toon Disney/Jetix, Discovery Kids, CW4Kids, and Qubo.
4:03 can confirm that my close to baby boomer dad that grew up on Hannah Barbara cartoons (and even worked there for a couple years), made sure that I as a child in the 2000s watched boomerang. I loved it. Tom and jerry, the smurfs, the snorkels, yogi bear, the jetsons, the flintstones, and scooby doo were my favorites.
I WAS SO OBSESSED WITH THE BUMPERS AND THE JABBER JAW MUSIC VIDEO!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I WANT TO GO BACK!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I loved the music videos, that was my favorite one too.
Took me years to find the band who sang it on TH-cam. & ages for someone to upload an HD quality version.
Kinda sad you didn't mention the show Jellystone it's so cute and worth to check out !
i’ve never seen jellystone but i remembered it this morning & regret not mentioning it! i‘ve heard good things 😭
I'm from honduras, I'm not entirely sure if on all latin america this happened (mayority did I think) but Boomerang, as a channel, doesn't exist anymore. It was replaced by a Pre-school block called cartoonito. Not only that but in here there is a channel/block that has Boomerang's purpose, showing old cartoons. The channel is called tooncast
I was still 7 when Boomerang rebranded, all I was aware of is that the logo was gone, and everything.
I just felt so weird and confused 😭
I love boomerang,it is such a good channel. I still watch it from time to time and I actually think it's one of the only good channels on cable still. I wish they would go back to the old bumpers though
i wish they’d make some modern ones that took inspiration from the classic bumpers at least! but i’m glad we’re getting somewhere with the programming
If Hanna Barbera saw Velma he would be so Disapointed in how they Bullied and Craped on His Charcters
I have absolutely no clue if its related to why Boomerang decided to rebrand, but as a kid I do recall seeing a lot of posts online, especially in forums complaining about how Boomerang constantly played the same bumpers and had the same shows in circulation. Many of those people seemed to be very vocal about wanting Boomerang to change, though the things they were asking for were new updated bumpers, more shorts to play between shows, and to put more old shows into circulation.
I remember being VERY perplexed when the rebrand happened though I can confirm that while they did indeed play TTG on there for some reason after the rebrand, they did play the original Teen Titans as I did catch a few episodes sometimes at night.
Boomerang rebranded because CN wanted to relaunch it as a powerhouse brand next to the flagship CN and Adult Swim brands.....
it was a plan that ultimately didnt work out and in the past year or so, they reverted to the old format (though it remains to be seen)
38:11 checkered past is truly so clever
It's not often you see a TV channel return to form, once it has decayed, but Boomerang has managed to pull it off. The channel has been the best for the past year or so than it has for many years. The only thing missing is the old bumpers.
Now, if only Nicktoons can take some cues from Boomerang.
Boomerang now is fine, not good but fine.
Just wished Camp Lazlo didn't air in 1 in the morning, then again it isn't even airing at all anymore so some people won't know what I'm talking about.
I know Boomerang was for Hanna Barbara cartoons but wasn't another reason why it existed being that it airs old CN shows no longer running?
Boomerang’s existence never had to do with CN’s content. After-all it started off in 1992 apart of CN when the channel was just getting started & hadn’t released any originals yet. However, over time it was a change that made sense for the channel since it was a CN spin off & it had been years since some of their still popular shows were created.
Ah okay.
boomerang: we put it on autopilot for 15 years
So did they have actual employees or did Mike the janitor just switch out the tapes on his breaks?
@@sominboy2757 im pretty sure they did, they just did the exact same thing for 15 years and changed little to nothing exept a few minor software updates
They actually currently still air bumpers very rarely and are from the looney tunes show
After watching this, I’m currently sat watching boomerang ON CABLE TV STILL 😭
I was so shocked to see that it still exists WITH THE OG CONTENT. Looney Tunes, Taz-Mania, The Jetsons, and Scooby Doo. I’m so happy you brought this up because I never would’ve remembered until you unlocked my memories
Its unfortunate that they've just started adding the classic cartoons back as the boomerang channel is no longer available on my tv for me where I am at and was removed just over two years ago
The Boomerang downfall is very similar to TV Land's shift from classic programming. I'm grateful to have grown up with these channels when they showed iconic shows.
distinct childhood memories of coming downstairs from my bath/shower to eat tollhouse cookies and watch duck dodgers on boomerang! it was great bc my parents would let us stay up later to finish episodes of their favorite shows lol
the intro is so good omgg it immediately brought back so many memories for me 😭 i watched boomerang all the time when i was 7/8
I lived with my mom practically my entire life. She was never restrictive about the kind of cartoons that I could be exposed to in my youth (I was allowed to watch ANYTHING that was rated below TV-PG or TV-14 and had to use a PIN code to watch anything above that rating . . . at least in my room); I had a particularly close association, in terms of viewership, with Nickelodeon (a statement you could take the wrong way nowadays, especially after _you know what_ . . . ). However, I had a real fondness for Boomerang because it was my first exposure to cartoons made well before even my mom was born and those made during my mom's childhood and a lot of the other pre-Nicktoons childhoods. I remember seeing the old theatrical MGM cartoons on the channel, as well as much of the pre-Cartoon Network Hanna-Barbera library. My late 2000s to early 2010s partial obsession with _The Powerpuff Girls_ (which, in its original run, was most popular among representatives of Generation X) also was fostered on Boomerang. And yes, I remember those bumpers; recently, I found the "walking around in circles" one that I most remember about Boomerang; I saw that one when I was nine and thought of it upon seeing this video. It's actually gotten over a million views on TH-cam.
I always associate Boomerang with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because every time I visit my grandparents, I would watch boomerang and eat pb&j
my favorite part of boomerang was the Tom and Jerry marathons!! still an absolute favorite show of mine!
I grew up with boomerang and I love it because it had a lot classic cartoons and Cartoon Network cartoons that end few years after it’s original release.
I have this really weird experience as someone born in 1996 where on the weekends I would go to my Grandma's in the very early 2000s and would watch Boomerang. So I actually got to experience Boomerang around the same age that the kids at the time of the actual airing was. It wasn't like I was watching "old cartoons", it was just cartoons to me. I hope to give my kids the same experience.
Haven’t been this early for one of these before! Spent way too many hours watching old cartoons on here over the years, so I’ve been pretty excited about this one.
I've been watching Checkered Past, Adult Swim has been doing a good job with it. They replaced Billy and Mandy for a while with Evil con Carne (which is Billy and Mandy's lesser known sister show)
Edit: It should be noted that Boomerang internationally is dying. Cartoonito has replaced a few of them
I don’t think I’ve ever found a TH-cam channel so tailored to what I grew up with as a kid I want to thank you for making these videos. I’ve been watching since the sprout video. :)
Matthew Mercer as Bigfoot in New Looney Tunes is one of the best additions to the Looney Tunes ever. I wish he'd be used in other projects.
Great video, Lula! Even as a 30-year-old, Boomerang was a huge part of my childhood. I remember coming home from a tough day at school and running over to my grandparents to watch some good ol’ classic cartoons with my grandad. Those were really special times.
I use to wach the topcat movie so much on DVD as a kid
I have a very nostalgic place in my heart for Boomerang. I didn’t get the channel at my house, but I’d go to a relatives house and they had it. I very much remember watching Pink Panther (which is on your shirt)! And those bumpers with the windup toys and the guy saying “You’re watching Boomerang, from Cartoon Network” is so nostalgic!
And nice intro!
Good news, I think this video tapped outside of your normal algorithm demographic. I've never seen you recommended before and most of your retrospectives look a wee outside 30+ males. That being said, I frickin loved this era of CN. Their Cartoon Cartoons were generally a step above the contemporary Nicktoons and Scooby-Doo (...pre Scrappy and Pup Named...) was a particular retro favorite of mine.
Props for mentioning the music videos. I still kinda remember some Jabberjaw lyrics to this day cuz that was a certified banger.
That intro brought back so many memories, I totally forgot about this channel!
I’m so happy that old boomerang recordings are popping up on archive. I found a few from 2009 and it took me back to when I was 5.
I love all your videos so much, it feels like you're living inside my head bc for the past couple months I've been feeling super nostalgic and have been watching old boomerang commercials w the bumpers. 😫 ur content slaps
Great video, thanks for the shout out too!
thanks to dreamjelly for showing me this masterpiece!
I JUST REALIZED BOOMERang
WAIT oh my god 😭
OMFG😂😭
AAAHHHHAAHAHAH!!!! 🤣😭😂😂😭😭🤣🤣😂👏👏👏
omg the smosh reference 😭🙏🏻 one of my fave channels referencing my other fave channel
the only thing i can really remember watching on boomerang was the pink panther weirdly but those bumpers and commercials have stuck with me forever. i remember always seeing that one josie and the pussycats music thing even though i never actually watched that show. the bumpers feel almost liminal to me but in the best way, truly when tv networks were at their creative peak 🥲
I so vividly remember the Zoo bumpers and the Movie blocks. It's one of those things that shows up as imagery in my brain often, and it's so cool to he reminded about all of this!
i'll never forget this one time where there was a smurfs marathon on boomerang and all i wanted to do was watch tom and jerry, i was so mad
Dude! The bumpers, the movies, THE GROOVIES! God, so many core memories unlocked in my head!
i misread “boomerang” as “bloomberg” and was like wow i wonder what happened to the news organization bloomberg and then you started talking about cartoon network and i realized my mistake and i was still down to watch XD
I don't know if this channel existed in US but, in Brazil, we had a channel called Toonscast that is what you describe for the concept of Boomerang, so here it never made sense to Boomerang exist as it was.
Boomerang’s current schedule is, let’s just say, a HELL of a lot different than what it looked like a few years ago.
Fellow Gen Z and I just wanna say thanks so much for covering the things that we grew up with loopsey! Much love too you and keep it up! 💙
26 here. I remember my first surprise at Boomerang's drift toward the newer was...not so much the introduction of Pokemon, but when it first reached the Diamond & Pearl season in the 2010s. I still was ultimately okay with it, just because I had an understanding of nostalgia, but it still felt weirdly recent for the channel that made its name on Hanna-Barbera reruns. Sometime several years on, I think well after the big redesign, I tuned back in out of curiosity and was almost immediately met with a bumper hawking _Sonic Boom?_ _While it was still airing on the main channel???_ I switched right back off of it.
automatic like for the effort put in for the bumper bc no one ever talks abt the bumpers between shows I literally loved themmmm esp the ones for boomerang theater on holiday when they were airing movies🥹
Jeff Bergman is SO under utilized. Warner Bros could totally fix their problems by just leaning into Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera.
I just wanna say how much I love ur videos, I play them every night to fall asleep to, listening to old toys, tv shows and more puts me so at ease, being born in 2006 the topics you make videos about bring me so much comfort and nostalgia. Keep up the amazing content❤️❤️❤️❤️
Shout out to Dream Jelly for letting me know this exists. I was no longer a kid by the time Boomerang became more available, but I watched so much Cartoon Network as a kid that I'd occasionally flip to Boomerang because it reminded me of what Cartoon Network used to be.
me and my dad would stay up late just to watch tom and jerry on boomerang and it wouldn’t air until 11pm and as a 7 year old being able to stay up late with your parent just to bond with them was very special. it’s very sad to know that they don’t see how special these things are to the executives 😔💔
growing up i got so used to youtubers being older than me that hearing you say you were born in 2005 gave me whiplash lmao, i can't believe you're 2 years younger than me!
I love your videos and this was my favorite channel growing up!! So glad you covered it
I'll always remember the old Boomerang. I used to be obsessed with its bumpers how simple it is and the fact that some of it uses toy/figures just out my inner child. It kind of made me want to be a collector of plushies and toys. I will always cherish the old Boomerang for introducing me to the Hanna Barbera cartoons and being an impact on my childhood. "It's all coming back to you." adds more weight to the nostalgic factor. Awesome video
