Thanks for sharing this great story! I always found that Truls was very good against most European players. But against Asians or the very top Europe players there still seemed to be a very big gap. I really hope that now after Olympics he remains confident in that he can actually challenge the very top players and start beating them.
The key to becoming great in table tennis is to perform illegal serves - a nice mix of borderline legal/borderline illegal/outright illegal and so on. Most umpires are senile and have no idea of proceedings. Make sure contact is made INSIDE the end line and DROP the ball using a small toss. Also vary the toss/drop for more confusion. Use exaggerated motions before and after service motions and strokes.
