Hi guys! Thanks for tuning in... This week we are going to get the repairs to the 1938 Chrysler finished and see if, in fact , it will run! This magnificent machine has been parked for decades and the engine was in need of some repairs to the valvetrain, so we decided to take it apart and sort it out. We are also going to keep at the 1959 Buick here, and this week we're joined by Agents 0842 and 303 as we get the front clip off the car to ready it for a new drivetrain... Thanks to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments! Thanks to our Patrons, I deleted 19 ad breaks from today's video! Please feel free to check out our Patreon page at : www.Patreon.com/coldwarmotors where we have extra videos and pictures and a bunch of people hanging out and bs-ing about cars! 1937, 1938, and 1939 Imperial engines and transmissions The “Gold Seal” name was used for the high-compression 93-horsepower L-head sixes in the Royal as well as the eight-cylinder engines in the Imperial and the final Chrysler Airflow. A major reason for the stretched wheelbase in the Imperial was making room for those straight-eight engines. The Imperial and Airflow L-head eight cylinder engine displaced a modest 299 cubic inches, and had a standard 6.2:1 compression ratio; Imperial buyers could opt for special heads with a 7.4:1 compression ratio that raised horsepower from 110 at 3,400 rpm to 122 hp at 3,400 rpm. Torque was rated at 214 lb-ft at just 1,600 rpm (238 lb-ft for the high-compression version). The New York Special and Series C-20 Imperial engines had a slightly more powerful (115 hp/225 lb-ft), slightly higher compression (6.5:1) base engine. The overall gear ratio was 4.1:1 for the 110 hp engine, 3.91:1 for the high-compression engine, and 4.55:1 for the 115 hp engine. All cars had a manual transmission, using three speeds plus the automatic overdrive.
With these old gems I always find myself thinking about the hands that have made the metals, handled the parts, and done the repairs over the years. It does my heart good to see these few examples being saved.
That's such a satisfying clunk when the valve slides down into the seat 😊😁👍 Fat 🐈 cats rule 🎉 tiger's cute!❤ Gotta love the smoke breaks!👍😉🥴😤 She's going to run like a top! You can picture WW2 officers being driven in these all day long easily! Ahhh the Imperial luxury. And now for something completely different. The Buick grill looks like a romulan musical instrument you'd see Lt. Uhura playing on Star Trek to me for some reason. 👽🎼👾 Yaaaaaa Dean!!!👍😁👍 Happy belated birthday wishes once again 🎉 I think I got you a few videos ago but it's the sentiment 😊 thanks again y'all and frankers!👍😁
Not to take away from the sentiment, but for those who don’t know, in the US, Veterans Day is to honor living veterans only. We honor war dead and veterans who have died, on Memorial Day.
Dan has a winner in the Imperial. Smooth Engine with an original patina at a high level of originality and an addiction he can't afford therapy for. Welcome to the club. Cheers 🇨🇦
Vert inspirational guys!! Thank you! I'm still working on my '35 Studebaker straight 8. Wish you boys were here to lend a hand and keep the mood positive! Love to Tiger!
39 imperial is a gorgeous car and loved to hear it fire up. Will look great parked next to the Chevy. Tiger is an awesome cat with an epic, loud purr. Buick progress woo!! Stay dirty 👍
First “Charo” reference on a TH-cam show for me…That Imperial’s gonna be smooooth! (And the polar opposite of “base’). Thanks for another hour well spent - see you next week!
Thanks guys felt like I was in the garage with you - love that era of vehicles, looking at the new crap today I wonder if we have really "Progressed" as humans!
That Chrysler is a wonderful old girl. So glad to see her burn off the valve and piston lube. Blue smoke on first start is victory. Pulling the Buick front clip is the best way to cleanup the engine bay, and it will make engine and trans assembly so much easier to reinstall.
That straight eight block is a master piece of art work. Never mind the patina. The Imperial is a proper classic I would enjoy. Franker's looks like she's having fun playing in the snow. Can't wait to see the 59 Buick running. Thank you Scott, Franker's and agents for making this show possible. Have a fantastic weekend everyone.
For guys like me, aspirant old-car hobbyists, getting to watch you guys polish up the top end of that astonishing Chrysler straight 8, doing the valves, cleaning the guides, reattaching the head and manifolds and finally, firing it up, is some mighty fine viewing! I got notice my calendar's on the way. Thanks for your channel!
I would like to thank all the friends that come over and help Scott out with some dirty but satisfying work. I was happy that the front clip came out as easily as it did. Happy to see that Dean is back helping out. Dan scored big time with that Imperial. You guys did the right thing by pulling the head and all the valves and grinding them and seats. You added many more running miles to that engine. It sounded so sweet on start up. You guys are the best!
I am laid off Union worker that just got my job back!!! I don’t get paid till Tuesday so I was forced to watch this episode over my iPhone…WORTH IT!🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
My dad was a union guy, I remember sitting in his Datsun pickup and reading the new books I had just gotten while he walked the picked line. Somehow I never went without anything while his clothes were falling apart.
Thanks for sharing the session with the Imperial at the GCFCE. It's always a treat to see what is in the works there, and the purring cameo by Tiger. It would be a lot less of a joy to lay in the cold mud under the Buick without Ashley and Dean to share it with. Thanks again Scott and Best Wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors, their Families and Friends. Hopefully You All have a pleasant Remembrance Day ! 🇨🇦 #Chrysler #FurySuburban #Someday
The best thing about The CWM Lifestyle--if you get project burn out from working on your stuff, go visit an agent and work on something else or just hang out, drink a beer and shoot the breeze! Win-win!😎
That straight 8 is so smooth. Real luxury in the smooth power! It would be sweet if you had an old dealership show room building to display the more finished rides! The '37 Chevy is gorges and the Chrysler Straight eight would steel the show!
Love seeing that big 8 go. Great luck on that piston. I've seen and heard one get destroyed by a carb screw. Didn't take long. The Buick s resurrection winter :-)

Kitties and puppers do in my experience. They are all blessed by not having a clue what the hoomans are up to behind the seens! Plus they will never know anything aboot polly tix.
Wow that straight 8 sounds like a sewing machine it was like watching a live ER session where doctors are working on the patient's heart valves and fixing them thanks for the great afternoon video😊
I can't believe how solid that Chrysler is - just needs a wax now it's running 👍😎👍 A 'herd of elephants', a 'murder of crows' and now a 'tray of valves' 😄
That Chrysler is awesome! Well done on that engine. And the Buick is ready for some cleaning to accommodate the engine and transmission. Great progress on everything. Good to see everyone. Missing Myles though. I'm sure he will be back soon. Thank you everyone for sharing!!!
It was a joy to watch those valve stems gliding back into the Chrysler’s head, unimpeded by the now removed accumulations and certainly, more joy when the Straight 8 fired up. Good works all the way around but was curious if a flat rate discount was granted when the techs were toking up during the job.😅 Also liked Ash’s observation that the ‘59 Buick having wireless connectivity for its electrical system. Now, there’s an idea that’s overdue and ripe for implementation…grats!
One of the best things about this channel is that the guys save 4 door cars...we were messing with the same cars in the late 70s, and we scrapped anything that wasn't a 2 door coupe. Because the cars were everywhere, and cheap

Hello everyone thanks for this awesome video i love it enjoyed watching this great stuff say Hi to FRANKERS for me and a very Happy Birthday Scott i hope you have many more.😊🎂🍺👍✌❤
LOVE that Imperial! It's running nicely. Positive ground, I presume? My father told me that he took the valve plates off his '53 Pontiac once, and it was wall-to-wall sludge. That Frazer probably doesn't have a vacuum booster on its fuel pump.
Great times all through the week. Sometimes work is more fun than play. I'm going to suggest you borrow the steam cleaner to make the Buick cleaning So much quicker and easier. The Imperial had a very sweet purr to it. Awesome work guys. Glad you had a Happy Birthday Scott. Cheers everyone !

I agree 100% right after we smoke a joint first makes you concentrate better lol!
@roomwithapointofview thought you were talking about the old gold seal black hash we used to smoke back in the day hahahahahaha 😂 🤣 😆 😅 😜 🙃 😂 🤣
Sketchy RipOff Kiosk sent me a notification that my calendars have shipped ! Woohoo ! 🎉
Ever temporarily use high detergent diesel oil in an engine being raised from the dead?

@@dwderp I stand corrected.

It was just so satisfying to hear that straight eight purr into life. That Imperial is a fine automobile. Cheers again Scott and the agents.👍
There is something so satisfying about watching a valve and seat grinding operation
That Chrysler is a wonderful old girl. So glad to see her burn off the valve and piston lube. Blue smoke on first start is victory.
Pulling the Buick front clip is the best way to cleanup the engine bay, and it will make engine and trans assembly so much easier to reinstall.
Welcome back to life, ol' girl...good to know you still had some in ya!
Great job guys on bring her back from the dead! Another one saved.
That straight eight block is a master piece of art work. Never mind the patina. The Imperial is a proper classic I would enjoy. Franker's looks like she's having fun playing in the snow. Can't wait to see the 59 Buick running. Thank you Scott, Franker's and agents for making this show possible.

Hey Scott. I like all your crazy old engine repair machinery almost more than the cars. It's great seeing someone keep and use this old stuff.
Cheers! Glad you like the old stuff like I do! All the best from here...
The Imperial even still has paint! Thanks for putting out the effort to edit this compenium of inspired tomfoolery.

How cool is That? After years of sitting, Walter Chrysler's old straight 8 sounds like it was shut off a week ago ...On to the next page....
I love that old valve grinding machine it takes me back to my grandpa's garage he had one just like it that's where I learned to do that kind of work
We used the same one at the station I worked at back in High School 73-75.
AWESOME work on Dan's 38. sounds like a Swiss watch.
Great show! Congrats to you all for getting that Imperial purring. That's a classy set of wheels!

First starts are always a thrill no matter what it is but this one is over the top. Cheers
Love seeing the Buick and Imperial projects on the move. Yes, the Buick's a ways out for motive power but hoping the Imperial with all the skilled hands working on it will be roadworthy before too long. Cheers all!
