Will it Run? 1947 Chrysler: Gold Medal Performance at the W.O.T.O! Plus: Glass for the 1953 Olds!

- Hi guys! Another really fun week here; we are going to whistle the 251 back together in the 1947 Chrysler Royal and see if in fact, it will run... Working on this heap is definitely as Waste of Time, but is it a gold medal contender?
Then: Over to the GCFCE to see if the first new bit of glass will go up and down in Dan's 1953 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Hardtop!
Finally: A rousing round of "The Compression is Right!" with Dean, Ash, and Myles featuring the subject Chrysler again...
Our 8mm film is back from the developer; I'll be including bits of it in the next several weeks' videos... Hope you enjoy these clips; I cropped them to fit this time. Special thanks to Steve Dean and Niagra Film Labs in Toronto.
Thanks to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments!

What a 'Royal' pain it may be to get Chrysler to drive now. Dan's ride is so complicated for a simple thing.10+ engineers must've set back for months trying to make the impossible do the probable.Wait until the pressure limiter breaks and he jacks the roof up a few inches ;)
I keep my best drained oil like Rotella or Mobil 1 to use in beaters like your Chrysler. No need to waste new oil on it at this point. After all the oil has sat for awhile allowing any contaminants to settle to the bottom. Just don’t empty the container. You can put some diesel fuel or Marvel Mystery oil in it and run it awhile just before you drain. Awesome to hear it run after so many years!!!! Cheers from Virginia where I’ve never seen May snow!
scott its been as long since i used that stuff as you have but if i recall you put it on the head before you run the shaving machine on it back to the machine shop lol thanks for the vids
That chrysler flathead cleaned up nice love the bsing it's funny...I laughed when u said idk you guys are the experts hahahah
There's another word for people without beards.
Women.
Dan's face rolling that window up and down looked like a toddler watching Christmas lights! Very cool.
Priceless!!!
I think my face looked exactly the same just watching the video. 😂
It's rare to see Dan show such joy and satisfaction lol!
LOL
I wonder how many people got guillotined by those windows
Dan's Olds blows me away every time, the amount of finnnicky b-s hand finishing that must have been done on the production line must have been crazy
Always appreciate the long time side story quest of the "Frankers vs Squirrel" battle that's been running now for years 🤣
Score: Squirrel 484 Frankers 0…😂
You are never to old to participate in the waste of time olympics! See you next week!
Dan’s face. Priceless
The look on Dans face when he realized how well that window worked was awesome!
Hands down the best oldschool youhube channel. Keep it up and dont stop may God bless you all
A whole new meaning to, "shaving the cylinder head".😊
The rear window on that Olds is absolutely epic...NOW I see why Dan went to so much trouble to get them working again. Great job boys!
Watching the '53 Olds window working brought back memories of 1958.....my father drove my mother's aunt's car ,,,,a 1956 Olds Super 88 2 door hardtop with push button windows for our Christmas visit from Dallas to Port Arthur, Tx....so the weather was cold and rainy....I sat in my usual back seat..right window...and was fascinated with push button windows.....it was like magic....pushing a button and watching the window glide up and down....my father got irritated and told me to stop 'playing with that window'....was 8 years old and still remember that trip and the beautiful '56 Olds with magic push button windows
Yeah! We used to love the power windows in my grandfather's 75 Plymouth Sport Suburban, and had to be told to stop playing with them!
The best hour of the week.
My thumbs up was deployed at 5:37 mark. That's why Tom is supervisor, earning his keep right there!
Captain Been There, Done That.
It's hard to believe that this channel doesn't have more subscribers, one of the best shows on you tube with a lot of very talented people contributing ❤
Thanks Mike! Cheers from me and the Menace!
👍👍🇨🇦
I've heard of shaved heads before. Never realized it required shaving cream.
😂😅😅
Walter Chrysler would be proud!
😂 I have been watching for years and never knew you had a machine shop
Oh! The mill belongs to Agent 900, but it is available if I need it for a small job like this... Cheers!
Thumbs up to all the agents for their efforts in the waste of time Olympics. Cool watching you skim that head. And admiring the amazing design of the Oldsmobile side windows. Whoever worked that mechanism was an absolute genius !
Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Favourite time of the week! Skoke em if you got em boys!
The look on dans face with the glass going up. Contented astonishment. Nice to see power windows from the era of when they were a respectable alternative to the guillotine. Old Chrysler came together just fine. Must have been that skim that gave those high performance compression figures on 2 cylinders.
That Olds 98 is just an amazing piece of automotive engineering.👌
Nothing could make him happier. The look on his face. Great.
Every time Scott and the agents say 'Yeah, we're just gonna give it a light tidy-up and get it running and driving for fun', I know they're gonna rubuild it almost to OEM specs! 🤣
Just like the '60 Plymouth splice:.."This will NOT be a complete restoration..."
@@timwerner7771 😆 Exactly! And that's why this channel is awesome!
Your dedication to the art of wasting time is an inspiration to the entire community. Keep up the work!
Ps. Thanks for including another forklift cameo!
I enjoyed "The compression is right!" immensely. Those OLDSMOBILE hydraulic windows are a real accomplishment...so satisfying! Another great one in the books.
Except these were Oldsmobile!
@@CharlesAtwell-or7bm Correct! My mistake!
Great hearing that old Chrysler running , Those windows in Dans Olds were like Christmas Day Wow! Thanks for another great episode! Cheers , Have a great week.
That window transformation and repair is way too rewarding
some day some one will be grateful for all the work you did on the 47 when they are so few left
Great opening with more of that 8mm. It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon to watch CWM on the test porch. Looks like another great show with Franker's and the agent's. Thank you Scott.
Can't wait to hear the Chrysler run.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
Good job on the hydraulic Windows,Dan! Thanks as always Scott, see you next time.
Shaving the head for that extra performance and getting that guess the compression win with Dean! The Olds window movement with the glass is a work of mechanical excellence.
Nice having a milling machine handy!
Always a thumbs up before I watch because I always know it’s going to be great. Thanks again Myles for that Thursday video. 🍻
I LOVE the W.O.T.O! Such a good belly laugh and ode to Monty Pythons 'Silly Olympics' and the '100 meter dash for those with no sense of direction! '
Pure, gold boys!
Your overall luck with flathead engines is pretty good; it's surprising a luxury flathead is giving you trouble.
Time to start a new band. Luxury Flathead. Damn!
It was sad watching the Forklift Gnome freezing His sack doing the outro. The look on Dan's face, inside the Oldsmobile, watching the window travel was worth all the efforts. The
" Two Bodymen running a Mill " skit
was inventive. Thank You for this episode Scott, Best Wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors, their Families and Friends.
Nice to have friends like that to come by and help out. That Olds is coming along , so is the Chrysler. Good deal!
OMG what a fun episode. Frankers’ first trip around the yard with the Chrysler will be a guaranteed crowd pleaser. And MORE OLDSMOBILE WINDOWS!!!
Cheers from Alabama ❤
Thanks Guys for the video. I always look forward to them.
Time for the best part of my weekend, its like Sunday morning cartoons except it's a Canadians garage.
Greetings,
I spoke with an engineer at Loctite recently and he said anything on the threads of a bolt like Loctite, Anti seize, or oil will make you over tighten when using a torque wrench. Torque values are based on dry clean threads and when lubricated they are easier to turn, thus changing the torque value for a given tightness.
Food for thought.
Cheers
This is absolutely true!
Set torque wrench in stages, creep upto desired setting. Learnt that from Scott!
I've been usibng torque wrenches for 50 plus years and every engine design has set torque values. I even spent time as an apprentice learning how to calculate the correct torque and stretch values of fasteners. Any engine manufacturer could specify that either dry or oil studs are the requirement. Example. BMW would say dry only. not because of threads turning too easily but because the threads were so accurate that oil can cause block fractures as it hydraulics. Mercedes on the other hand always insisted that he bolts be soaked in oil especially the underside of the bolt head to ensure correct torque. There's 'no one fits all rule'.
@@Mercmad thank you, always glad to get more info 👍
More big wins for Team CWM! Any rational soul would’ve given up on the ‘47 Chrysler, but the hardy stalwart and prolific crew seen here would have none of that and boldly persevered without which we wouldn’t have the pleasure of the “guess the compression” session that was truly inspiring. Dan’s triumph on the Olds window was similarly triumphant and exemplified by the joy on his face when the test run was successfully completed. His expression looked like the wonderment was that of a child upon gazing at the bounty of gifts on Christmas morning. Outstanding capture of these remarkable folks and their accomplishments.
There are only two TH-cam channels that I will 'like' even before I watch them. This is one of them, and this episode is a great example why: friends working together to revive a questionable flathead six, the sense of pride at a job correctly done installing window trim, and the look of satisfaction, watching hydraulic power windows operate correctly after a metric ton of work. Looking forward to a summer's worth of project work! Cheers!
The Renault looks great !
The Olds is gonna be a real jewel .
Its great to see that glass in and going up and down. Amazing. Two thumbs up.
Another awesome video it was great to see all the work done on the 1947 Chrysler my thanks to everyone involved in making this video happen and all the work done to the car amazing and also so great seeing FRANKERS great dog star of the show and always thank you Scott for saving the cars everyone have a great week see ya in the next video cheers.😊👍👍✌❤🍺
As always, thanks for the laughs and fun! Cheers.
Excellent show. Got the Chrysler running and Dan's window was a sight to behold.
Great job! Nice to see the olds window going!
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers from here...
Lovely to see the old ‘47 Chyrysler come to life again!! 👏🏻
Great work gents
Thank You Scott sir. The Oldsmobile window is crazy cool and full of subprises CHEERS
Think of how many of these old cars were pulverized at demolition derby’s across North America back in the 1970s.
The 'super-8mm' flicks..Grandpa watching,"you hooligans with your modern hotrods. My Flivver will still get me to town while your set in a field rotting'.Chrysler mayhem...Miles got all the bolts tight.Too bad the owner has so many screws loose ;)The Olds window..Wow ! Nice sneak look at the wheels on the ReNault.Perfection.You guys set around singing,"I got friends in lowly places..."? Cheers !
Fantastic content! Y'all really made my day. Really have a soft spot for the Chrysler. Rooting for a successful re-breakin and drive. "The Compression is Right!' should be a regular feature! Kudos to all the Agents.
The conversations under the hood of that Chrysler was priceless. I am in desperate need of laughter right now, and you delivered. Thank you. Cheers!
Cheers Heather... Glad you got a laugh like we do putting these together... All the very best as always from here!
Love Mr.Tiger! What a cool cat! My beloved garage cat, "Mr. Mack Truck," just passed away a few weeks ago after keeping me company for many years. He was a wise and always interesting companion. I'm waiting for another stray to come move in sometime soon. Looking forward to it. 😸
Those Olds windows are so cool.
Agent 7678 is the window guru of cold war motors at this point !! The expression on his face was priceless…😂 the car is becoming a very cool car; as you said Scott becoming one of my favorite, not mine cars…
Taking time to watch the Waste of Time Olympics is a very worthwhile way to waste some time.
Always enjoy watching these videos and how all the guys get along fixing these beaters...love it
Glad you like them! Cheers from here...
Ash just summed it up perfectly at 29:30, "Everything's shitty, but we've run shittier", classic!
The 5 looks great. 😁👌
The look on Dan's face when the window went up is hilarious. Congrats to you guys for restoring the hydraulics!
Another round of "THE COMPRESSION is RIGHT". I loved it !! You guys have too much fun ! Keep it up.
Did Tiger leave you a nice new hood ornament, you know you could have beefed up the compression by milling down the the head maybe by 1/4” then added a couple more stromburgs
Those are the coolest power windows ever, that look on his face when it works is priceless
Great video Scott, will definitely be looking forward to the next instalment of CWM.
All the best!
Thanks, you too! Cheers from me and Frankers...
How many of the display lot cars run? Left us with a cliff hanger.
Yep! I hope Scott follows up on that excellent question!
She ran! And pretty smooth considering the compression was all over the place! That window on the Olds is so cool! Can you imagine what it was like when it came off the dealer's lot? A beaming owner! Thank you guys for sharing!!
I'm here for the Dean-Cam.
You and your friends hardly waste any time when you realize how many people you inspire to appreciate and continue to work on their own rides, myself included! Keep on saving those clunkers!!
Hey thanks for saying so... Cheers from here!
I love the way those old mopar flathead 6s come back to life.
North Dakota has had the same weather you’ve been having, just less snow. It’s fun to see the Chrysler sputter to life!
You have just shown.
Don't let iT get the best of yah.
Just keep moving forward...
It will fall into place...
Straight 6 chryco....great engine.
Congrats😊
Deanovision! Was brilliant hearing that run! How awesome. Yey!
Hi Hammers! Glad you enjoyed this one... Hi from me and Miss Frankers!
I absolutely LOVE that 47 Chrysler. Glad she's a runner.
7678 looked like 10yr old with a new bike...and it's red! Congratulations I am impressed
The '47 Royal is a perfect example of being at a stage in your life where you can basically point at any target and say you're going to hit the bullseye. And then do it! That kind of confidence can only come with experience. I laughed so hard at the shaving cream lead-in! And again very generous and kind of Dan to host us again for the hydraulic window reveal and allow filming - it was a pleasure to share in his excitement at the windows working for the first time! For those of us who know, it will never get tiring to watch a window go up and down!
Great show, I liked the windows on the Oldsmobile. It's coming along very well.
That is a really sweet piece of kit machinery there! It reminds me of something you see at the dentist office for some reason. Just got to love the good old heavy quality precision machines from back then! The turning marks it leaves on the planed surfaces is so cool and clean looking too. Yeah, I'll be alright one of these days the Dr keeps saying,😂 oh well. Remember, heat is your friend at times too!😁
That was a complete waste of time... and I loved every minute of it. I thought for a second Tom was going to lose a finger in the milling machine and put you over the 100,000 subscriber mark. Cheers and all the best to you guys from a shed in an undisclosed location.
The lathe wouldn't dare bite Tom's hand Randahl! 😎
Cheers Randahl! Always happy to waste your time, buddy!
My sincere thanks to you for keeping me entertained every week for many years . As always thanks for another , Brother.
Great video. That olds is beautiful.
Thank you very much, John! Cheers from here buddy!
Its sad to say, i havent watched the channel for a year or so. And i am so glad nothing has changed! Keep up the amazing work!
My rear door '56 Buick windows hand crank up and down like that. It is amazing. No you can't pay someone else enough to what you and Dan are doing with that Olds. The look on Dan's face watching the window go up and down was priceless.
For many years now this has been my Saturday treat - the thing I look forward to watching. I haven't had TV piped into the house since the 1980s. I much prefer independent content like this that is truly more down to earth and many times fuckin' funny as hell. Quips DuJour. The standard fare, the same motley and dedicated characters who all share the love of the older cars and help each other out. That's what life is made of. Thank all of you for giving me my Saturday treat! Those windows on the Oldsmobile are insane! That car should really be prepped and repainted the original color if you could even replicate it. Would that look awesome or what??? I'm pushing for it, Man. Seriously...
The R5 lookin good! I love the summer 47 Chrysler beater challenge!
Great video, my friend!! Getting the head milled, the plugs out, gaskets installed and RUNNING!! Holy Hell!!
Working on Dan's Buick was EXTREMELY rewarding!! To see Dan's face, just in awe and lit up like a kid a Christmas who just saw his new fire truck!!
Great show with everyone pitching in!!
A FANTASTIC hour , well spent!!! Thank you all for sharing your time with us!!
Peace and love from Parma, Michigan!!
Thanks Brian... Glad you enjoyed it!
The look of wonder on Dan's face! Priceless! Thanks CWM!
Love the way you guys all hang out... work together and have a good time... all my car buddies are either dying off, old and lazy or have moved away ... a lot of "friends" just want you to be there but don't show up the rest of the time... so it's so cool to see people hang out together like they use to at my uncle's garage.... Cheers !
Good morning from Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺 on a sunny Sunday autumn morning. Cheers and Beers 🍻
The old flathead is not ready to die yet, great job on that.
Another Saturday afternoon with the agents. I feel like I'm watching an episode of The Prisoner! Had to order the decals for my cars this morning
Great camera work catching Dan's reaction to the window working.
That was the "It was all worth it" look.
I’ve never been more invested or captivated by a window going up and down!
Having the Chrysler cough its way into life after 50 years was an absolute win, my friend. Well done to you and the agents - and I agree about the head-skimming making the difference. Even on 5 cylinders, she still sounded like she means business and is wanting to go....and 5 would still move it around the yard if a good old fashioned rev fest doesn't bring the valve seats back.
Glad we got a sneak peek at the Renault with her dress wheels on. I see what you mean now, buddy - they look perfect on it! Looking forward to seeing it go down the road....but I can wait for the right timing. Sunny days are always best for showcasing a finished project - and she does deserve to be shown off a bit.
Now...that Olds.... Dan's perseverance with the fiddly stuff will reap mega rewards when she's finally back on the road, let alone parked up at some show or gathering of like-minded enthusiastic car-loving individuals. Actually, I like his idea of doing the fiddly work first and the bigger stuff (apart from getting the engine running) later, because the fiddly shit is what kills a project as it feels like you are getting nowhere fast. So many projects die the death waiting for 200 pieces of trim and window / dash hardware to be put on and all you want to do is drive it when the big stuff is done, hey? I know the feeling well! Dan's current order of things mean the fiddly shit gets done and doesn't drag the project on and on. Dunno why I never thought of reversing the order myself! I'm rapt to see the beast coming to life piece by piece, system by system - it's quite a motivator!
"Waste of Time Olympics"! Haha! Love it! There are some strange people who would believe that restoring old cars - any old cars - is a waste of time. I pity them..... They won't know the joy of pulling a car apart, reconditioning everything and putting it back together better than it was....and then turning the little key in the ignition and hearing the reconditioned starter turn over the reconditioned engine and burst into life for the first time in 20 years or more....and then driving down the road in a car where every square centimetre has been touched by their own hand and in the knowledge that while the manufacturer may have launched and initially assembled the car, you BUILT it into what it is now. Nothing - and I mean nothing - beats that.
All the best!
Thanks for the awesome note and the kind words... All the best from here!
I always give a thumbs up even before I press play cause the show is going to be great every time
Me too!
That was a fun show. Always enjoy seeing all the guys .
I'VE NEVER SEEN TOM MOVE SO FAST!
It looks like Dean needs an adult chair now at the green screen line up, I don't think his knees could possibly get any closer together!😂
I think he's earned it, like a kid going from the kiddy table during the holidays graduating to the big adult table.
Great job guys and Frankers as always Scott! Love seeing you get an honorable mention on Nick's Garage recently too!👍
