Something I like about your videos is how short they are. Not to sound mean, but I don't think we need an hour long video about dvd menus. You keep it short and concise. Keep up the great work.
dude I feel like you hear this often, but it can't be said enough, your videos are so good and you are incredibly underrated! I discovered your channel with your movie collecting video and have been watching you since! Keep going man I'm sure you'll keep growing!
I remember the DVD menu for this video for some reason had a specific section for pics of Jakob eating spaghetti while editing and normally I like behind the scenes stuff but I always thought it was a strange addition
It really is a shame they stopped putting the care into DVD menus and special features. They genuinely nurtured my love for movies as a kid, making me want to find out all the details and work that went into making the movie, and must be the reason why I want to get into the film industry in any way shape or form I watched Shrek, Spider-Man and Finding Nemo a million times but I might have spent even more time letting the menu play in the background and exploring all the interactivity and behind the scenes information
Thank you for talking about this! I have a whole collection of DVDs and I swear every disc I have that was released pretty much after 2012 had that same stock menu on them. I thought I was the only one who noticed lol
Some of my favorite menus to this day are the ones from the 6 Star Wars films released on DVD from the span of 2001-2005. Every time you loaded up the DVD there were one of three menus you could get, resulting in 18 across the 6 films. Each film contained not only multiple cool menus, but also fun animations that went along with them. Even if some planets are repeats, the menu of the planet is based on when it appeared in the movie. There’s some videos that showcase them if you’re interested. Menus for each film: Episode 1: Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant Episode 2: Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis Episode 3: Utapau, Coruscant, Mustafar Episode 4: Tatooine, Death Star, Yavin IV Episode 5: Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin Episode 6: Death Star II, Tatooine, Endor
My least favorite is when the menu is just playing clips from the movie and starts spoiling stuff. It sucks when you're watching a DVD for the first time or are showing something new to a friend.
the shrek 2 one is so nostalgic. i like the finding nemo one too because it really lets you soak in the atmosphere of the first scene before everything goes to shit making it even that much more impactful when the barracuda shows up
I really can't explain to anyone why I'm just watching the DVD menus. They ask me what are we waiting for. Happy to see you enjoying them too. And sadly yes, new menus kinda suck and makes me feel the creator team behind was genuiely uninterested.
@@trentoninnewjersey well about that I enjoy not having any unskippable trailers of the movies I won't watch. However the blu-rays I got from Czech Republic sometimes still have those trailers.
This was actually like the best 10 minutes of my life bro. This video was a topic i wouldnt have been interested in at all but you made it VERY entertaining, keep up the awesome work fr bro
i check out dvds from my local library, and me and my brother looove watching the menus and the little intros that appear when we pop in the dvd, so awesome you did a video on this!!
One of my favorite DVD menus is for the 1933 king king. It starts with a cool newsreel style clip with footage from the film, followed up by a menu in an art deco style in the background, with King Kong and the people in the front.
THIS! I've been thinking about this every once in a while since like March! I was watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer with a friend and I have all 7 seasons on DVD. I was watching the episodes that have commentaries and any other special features that went along with the episode we were on. Whenever the main menu loaded and then transitioned to the episodes menu and then the specific episode menu- yes, three menus- I was getting in the zone of watching the show, lol! It's a general nostalgia trip every time and the specific design of it all really aligns with how I thought about BTVS before I had even watched the show in full. Like it has that 90s grungy, goth, supernatural/witchy aesthetic in promotional photos and merchandise, which works well for the show, but it is also not 100% accurate to the real tone of the series. I'm taking a bit of a break with the show (it's a rewatch anyway so nbd), so I haven't seen all the main menus but S2 is a graveyard & mausoleum theme. One of the main menus that comes to mind immediately is for Mean Girls. That's got to be one of my most played dvds because I was like the only one among my friends to own it, granted we were 9 when it got a home video release and I had didn't have much restriction when it came to what I was allowed to watch. Anyway, the menu is a layout of the Burn Book. omg I remember playing the games on the dvd of Dinosaur (2000) a lot with my younger brother.
Im on the opposite side. I don't want menus like this. I want quiet, static, boring, plain, basic, still, no-frills menus. Sure its interesting the first time. But it gets old, and annoying afterwards. Put all that effort into bonus features instead.
Firstly, nice and good video, I like it :D Secondly, it's funny to know that the menu from, say, the Lego movie with the blue button icon things at @06:05 is the default "menu" option template on most DVD maker software. If you see something similar on the left (usually with a grey and black translucent background), that's also the lazy version of the same menu, so just one click and a screenshot and you have your "menu"..... As far as I've seen, almost all new DVD or blue ray releases use the simple menu template approach 😒
There have been some menus in the last decade which have had more effort put into them, and (IMO) did some unique things with the "assorted shots from the movie" menu template. I'm mainly thinking of the first two Deadpool films. 1: th-cam.com/video/APiv1j5ldVA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BYmCLISML868LCEU 2: th-cam.com/video/k8RK2ErQM3A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FZBZQ9XKZycDaU-0 (this one is fairly long)
You're like one of the only youtubers that I don't watch at 2x speed
your brain is fried

Im glad the movie poster guy is back in my recommended with even more food for the table
My fav one is the first harry potter it was really cool added to the atmosphere of the film
6:21 Why is this actually terrifying? Like what even

Finally someone talks about this, MY FUCKING GOAT
DVD menus were like an event. You looked forward to buying the movie sometimes just to see what the menu would be like. It is sad that has gone away.

Jakob Ross is one of the few people, that breaks the TH-cam video essay slop with original spin and I love it🔥
My least favorite is when the menu is just playing clips from the movie and starts spoiling stuff. It sucks when you're watching a DVD for the first time or are showing something new to a friend.
I feel like some clips are ok as long as it doesn’t spoil the plot
I wish these types of menus would make a comeback. Great vid!
the cars dvd menu used to jumpscare me everytime i wanted to watch it. great video man love your style!😄

This video is actually pretty well made. Pretty cool

I can already tell this is going to a banger like 1 min in. Always a treat finding an up and coming channel.

u just keep getting better at this bro
My personal favorite is Shaun of the Dead, it looks great, had good features, and ins't just clips from the movie
Can’t believe Rich Evens was in the Bluray menu for fight club
my favorite one is probably from Trainspotting, loved the atmosphere and I remember looking so hard for the easteregg haha
This was awesome. You my friend, have earned my subscription.
So much love and quality pouring out from your vids man. Hope you don’t focus on quantity in college 🙏🏻
Keep up the good work. You cover obscure yet interesting topics in a way that isn’t really done anywhere else
Just came back to this after seeing the menu for The People’s Joker. Safe to say we’re so back.
That Fight Club menu you showed is actually from the Blu-Ray. the DVD has a completely different menu
Im on the opposite side. I don't want menus like this. I want quiet, static, boring, plain, basic, still, no-frills menus. Sure its interesting the first time. But it gets old, and annoying afterwards. Put all that effort into bonus features instead.
The Micheal bay Transformers Movies definitely are some of the best.
This is such a interesting video!!! I love the editing!! And miss dvd menus 😞🪦
Great video, man! Just discovered your channel and so far enjoying it very much!

Shocked I have never seen these ones before they are so cool. Thank you for sharing these!
DVD menus are still not declining.
