I put a Tablespoon raw cacao in my coffee cup with half cup of weak coffee every morning, no sugar in either, maybe a little almond or soy milk. I like the flavor of the combination, very satisfying. Very little calories as well.
I have a high heavy metal count. I had a reaction when I took tumerick, but when I took organic tumerick I had no reaction. After my health improved a lot and pain dissappeared I had a Lindt chocolate and pain returned and took 2 to 3 days to go away. Never took it again. I also use carob and love it !
Regarding spices one thing I do is to keep two brands of those I use every day (grown in different regions), so I use each brand roughly alternating. I buy organic but still. As I recall turmeric is the big one for lead contamination.
In How Not To Age, Dr. Greger says that less than 1 Tblsp/day of cocoa powder showed significant improvement in muscle mass strength, and circulation within skin was boosted by 70% within 2 hours. He buys cocoa powder at Target which he says tests the lowest for heavy metals. He uses one Tblsp/day on his oatmeal.
Dr weiss is such a level-headed and kind man, really the complete opposite of Peter Rogers personality, I am personally so happy that you parted ways with him AJ and I know you probably can't publicly reply to this but I feel for you getting completely blindsided by how crazy Dr Rodgers turned out to be, aside from his obvious personality disorder, he is afraid that soy will feminize men and he makes wild claims about many low fat advocates, calling them "high fat phonies" he also has some pretty disturbing views on women as well and their place in the world. Sorry to rant, just felt so bad for you having to deal with him. We love you and all that you do for the vegan Community AJ!
Still, dr. Rogers has taught me more about the underlying mechanisms then any other doctor out there. It was always drs. like dr. mcDougall and dr. Weiss making the topic understandable but if you wanted to know more especially biochemically then dr. Rogers was the one for that. I also value his book reviews, like Blood Viscosity by Gregory Sloop. But all his other things do make him a hard sell.
I love Dr Weiss and look forward to learning more from him each time, but I can’t deal with the scary contaminations he mentioned in the foods we eat. I’ve given up so much, willingly with animal products, and necessarily with gluten, but to worry about kale or cinnamon? Life should not be this hard.
Coincidentally, I noticed white patches on my knuckles, the first knuckle of the right hand and less so on the ring finger of the left hand. Vitiligo, I thought; not a happy thought. Finally I went to a dermatologist who immediately said it was trauma. Surprising for me. She demonstrated how on picking up a cellphone from the table the knuckle brushes against the table surface. I was advised to be careful of avoiding such contact, as "after 60" - which I am, not senile I hope but older and clearly deteriorating physically - the skin doesn't heal very well hence the marks. And she recommended a moisturising cream for my hands for two months, then to be followed by something to rub in order to bring back the colour if I wish. Well it was a relief to learn I had secondary vitiligo, due to trauma, and not primary vitiligo which I understand is something of a confusing and mysterious condition. The trauma of the question answered by Dr. Weiss now reminded me of this.
l tip off the oil from top of peanut butter. coumarin in cinnamon affect the liver enzymes . mine have risen l had ultrasound it showed every thing is normal. so l wonder is the cinnamon the cause l was having a teaspoon a day . do l have stopped eating it to see if liver goes back to normal. another great talk thank you
Very happy that I have never eaten much chocolate. I mean very little in my 76 years. In fact I get annoyed because all of the younger recipe developers are constantly making chocolate recipes. lol I just don't care for it!
Regarding cacao, there is also a serious problem of child labor and exploited labor in general being used. That ethical problem alone is enough for me to give it up. There is a company that addressed the issue, but testing shows their product to be high in heavy metals. Then there are the issues of addiction and high saturated fat in the dark chocolate that’s supposed to be good. If anyone comes out with a cacao powder that is organic, tested as low in heavy metals and verified to be ethically produced- I’ll go for it. We also need to be aware of the cost of shipping these products all over the world. It’s just a highly problematic product at this time.
First question and bruising - alcoholism. Not saying the writer is an alcoholic... As a kid In was told that was from "no" Vit C left in their bodies, but it is probably more than just an absence of it.
That’s the fourth or fifth commercial already on this video. They had Dr. Gundry of all people has one of the commercials. I’m writing this only halfway through. I hope this isn’t a trend on your shows.😕💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I want to say to the doctor that he should not expect that we all plant food. I love in Texas as where it is very rocky. Also I am 76 and have scoliosis and can’t bend over to plant. I shop at HEB and buy organic as much as is there. Also gomto Natural Grocers and buy what i can there. Whole foods is an hour one way so i go-there ever few months. It seems he expects everyone should be able to plant. I found about this way of eating 6 years 2 months ago.
I love Dr. Weiss. Thanks Chef A.J. for bringing him to us.
Dr. Weiss is so helpful! I look forward to his Q&A each month. Thank you for having him on the show.

Target brand cocoa powder?
He just said Target so I would assume it's their private label called Good and Gather.
@@veggiegourmet Thank you
Navitas brand was determined by Consumer Reports, in its updated testing, as having one of the lowest amounts of heavy metals. Available on Amazon.
@@teresadominguez9892 I've purchased Navitas several times. It tastes good.
Always learning something new, and much more to research! Great video!
Discussion of cacao powder very thought provoking for sure! Wow

Dr. Weiss- How 😱 Scary! It’s not even Halloween yet! 👻
Thank you for this important information on heavy metals, rice and cacao… PFas. 👀😬😳💜
Thank you for the answer to my question about cocoa powder. I have used it in my wfpb diet, but hearing about the heavy metals has given me pause. 😢

It’s all so depressing what we have done and continue to do to our planet . 😢
So true. Pre-industrialisation people lived more healthy lives in terms of whole food & did not cause such massive damage & pollution

Question for the sos community do you consider liquid aminos a salt ?
What about 100% chocolate and a whole date? That's what I eat when I want a treat. I've heard it's brain food.
Does distilling water filter out arsenic? Just wondering
