  • Rust repair sucks!
Let's have a little fun and fit all the new sheet metal on this classic hot rod to see how it fits. When I made a deal on this car is came with a pile of replacement parts. Fenders, Hoods, Floors, Doors, Hoods ect ect. Before this car gets welded together I want to test fit all the panels. This ensures the car is straight and will save me a bunch of time down the road.

The sub frame connectors will really make a solid car out of it . The handling will be a lot better. These cars have a lot of twist to them , especially if you are going to run big horsepower in them.

The car that probably had the biggest impact on me as a kid back in the 80"s, was a black 68 camaro. With high rise tunnel ram and gold anodized velocity stacks poking through the hood...

Reasonable option- 350 Muncie 4 speed. More fun- 383 Stroker Tremec 6 speed.
So glad you finally found the time and decided to do this build. Been waiting awhile.
It will be fun to see it driving down the road.

Hey Dan, they just had a hi-tech invention that will change the world, it's called a notebook. Log all your progress on whatever car you're working on, then even if it sits for 5 years all you gotta do is check the book. I'm not shittin ya Dan, it really works.

I think they call those torque boxes that the spring eye bolts to and those are caged nuts you were referring to... one of my favorite metals to do patching with or make my own panels with is "satin coat" and you can get it in different gauge steel around Wpg.. you can literally throw a piece of it outside and it won't rust...you just need to lightly sand off the coating to weld...i usually buy off-cuts and get some of them bent in sheet metal brake with a 1" 80° or 90° angle...i think full sheets are 4x8 or 10...nice to have a few pieces laying around

It was funny when you said it gives you Challenger vibes. Alot of people think that Chevy copied the Challenger body when in fact the 67 Camaro pre-dates the Challenger by 2 years and the Barracuda didn't use that body style until 70. I get it all the time with my 1974 Nova and the Duster even though the 68 Nova body style pre-dates the Duster by 2 years.

Dan, it's called the front Spring box and your correct, 3 clip nuts on each to hold them in.. It's all a very cheezy set up in my opinion. BUT thank god your not dealing with a 2end gen F body , there reallllllly a nightmare. If it was me, I would sand blast ALL the rust out, and hit it with Asfo & coat the heck out of all that area with a few brush coats of Rusty metal red primer & few coats of Pro15 flat black as that rust can & WILL RETURN QUICKLY !👿👿👿👿👿 Same deal with the insides of the rockers as there is no real good way to stop the rust after you weld the rockers all closed, so sand blast clean & brush coat everything in the inner rockers with rusty metal primer HEAVY before you weld on the new outer rockers.

Like I say people can't come to terms with aftermarket sheet metal because they have to make it fit that's part of making it fit looks good buddy keep up the good work

I think it should be a universal car two engines available the 6 cylinder in the Biscayne ran pretty good. And then that 454 can make some mega power with good aluminum heads and upgraded pistons for more compression that is the key to HP. If you ever put a lawn mower engine together you can put a big block Chevy together. That's what it is a lawn mower ×8 a piece of cake.

  • @bat5917

Gotta say, you’re going in a great direction with this Camaro. You mentioned a sbc and a 4 speed and that would be a nice driver. I tend to like nice drivers and then make them sorta spunky…
Either a 400 sbc with a circle track cam (sounds good and runs like a scalded dog), or a 454-ish with headers and 3” exhaust would really sound good, easy around town, tons o torque.

I use the rocker panels for my door alignment reference with a car like that . What I do is look for a uniform gap along the rocker and the bottom of the door equal to the rocker corner then i reference the cowl to door at the top and that gives me a hood starting point

westport wa.state here. i do not do anything vary good any more. i love your show because my brother and dad were in to cars as much if not more then you. my mom freaked out when they dug a pit in the back yard so they could get under them. then another one. cars all over the place. dad was a military cop for a while. and he loved speed. he took the family car and put a hemi in it. special ordered a monza 2+2 vet running gear for my mom. yea right. his 72 cheyenne could not sit at a light without the tires trying to spin. my uncle would cut open the torc converters open and do his magic. i wish you new how to do that. nothing but money. the only reason they let me be around because i had total recall. i could hear a motor and tell what i heard. if i saw it i remembered it. oddball nerd, thats me. my dad said i am a country boy gone wrong.

Your car is looking great. My 69 was like yours, but on the other side. The sub-frame connectors go under the front of your springs and wrap around your sub-frame bushings and you can weld them and it makes a way better job. Use polli bushings. With the mini- tubs I left the leaf springs and added weld in Q-a1 adjustable shocks so I could adjust ride height. Because I use mono leaf for the squat.we raced till 2018 lost some family members and no more track in Atlanta.

Wish I had kept my 67, it was a fun car back in the 70's. I like your FF music. A lot better the Mortske! You are so ambitious.

I’m enjoying the 67. You’ve shown a lot in this video. I’d like to see a little street radical 350/4speed with that 22 bolt. Those caps are so spot on. 👍🇺🇸

This car could be the one that will show what talents you have. You can get all your money, and some, back on this. I would think many, if not, of your subscribers would love to see this car complete.
