Bachmann Echo Valley Express Train Set With DCC and Sound

Here is my review of the Bachmann Echo Valley Express Train Set that comes with a DCC and sound equated locomotive, and Bachmann EZ command controller, two freight cars, a caboose, and a loop of nickel silver EZ track. Enjoy!

I’m actually considering getting just the locomotive from that set and relettering it for my railroad as BL&G locomotive number 11. As part of my modifications to it, I will replace the original small headlamp with a larger headlamp from a Bachmann USRA mikado. Currently, I’m working on restoring my Bachmann 4-6-0 number 87 (Southern Railway), as well as my 2-10-0s numbers 8 and 7 (BL&G).

It is nice to see sets that have DCC style operations, and the train set steam locomotives look much better than years past....however, just like sets in the late 60s onward:
The post 50s, even post 90s diesel era rolling stock mixed with these early 20th century steam locos.
I'd live to see them treat it like Old Timers sets and include special cars and very distinctive early century cabooses.
Of course most 1870s wild west old timer sets have cabooses...which weren't even in existence in North America in that era.
However it only has a couple cars....easily discarded and replaced with some early century AccuRail resin cast cars...especially a wooden one or two.

So you have the steel EZ track and the nickel silver mixed it appears? I wondered if it was compatible but I guess it would be.

Unfortunately the locomotive is not equipped with a smoke unit.

Is the sound from the engine or the controller?

Engine. It has a speaker and a DCC sound board in it.

I would honestly doubt it. The locomotives smoke box is really small and I believe it’s already full of stuff.
