Finally we have it on paper: Strength and not technique is the limiting factor for harder climbing. I had this discussion over and over for almost two decades now and I've gotten so sick of people saying that strength isn't that important but technique is. (Hint: If you're climbing regularly for about a year you already know all technique you'll ever need - what you don't have is enough strength)
Haha, that was really entertaining. I have to say, after Charlie left, Matt had to fill some pretty big shoes, but he is doing really well! Really enjoying the shows with him. And Alex Megos seems like a cheeky guy, that was hilarious!
Alex is the total opposite of most elite climbers, he's not in the slightest bit humble. The kid just knows he's the shit and is quite happy to tell the world.
Most competitive activities are interesting because there's no "most important" thing; rather, there are many things that need to be balanced for your specific goal. • Maximum strength has to be improved for specific moves, • Endurance has to be improved for certain routes, • Technique should be improved to get the most out of your strength and endurance.
as i am as a climber i would prefer to get better technique cause im a climber that relay way to much on strength and i would even state it is the most important thing, when i rope climb it goes allot on the pyskisk aspect
I reckon they are far less powerful than alex. ondra has even admitted at one point that he couldn't do one arm pullup, but he said that it doesn't really matter :p
He could probably crimp with more pressure, the system maxed out when he was supporting his entire body weight. If he had a weighted vest on he could see how much weight he could support with each hand.
How does this thing work? You're too zoomed in. Alex weighs way under 72 kg so was someone holding on to his feet? Was he holding a weight in the other hand?
He may have done it better if we had added weight to his body, in order to apply and sustain more force. I think his fingers could have pulled better numbers
For context: 25 years of age, male (the man in the video) capable of 70-75 kg is very good, as 40-50 is 'okay', 55-60 is 'strong', 65-80 is 'very strong', 100+ is 'absurdly strong', and 200+ kg is the world record right now, I think. Also, certain types of measurements are harder than others. I am male, 23-years-old, and at about 45-50 kg with a hand grip and may be at 55 in the near future (harder methods will be lower). It clearly takes months, if not years of training to get 70+ kg grip, with most bodybuilders not capable of 70 kg, nor most climbers. Finally, famously, Bruce Lee had remarkable grip strength with his 'one finger push up' and grip strength training device (filled with six or so weights (at least 70 kg)).
You're comparing apples and oranges, this isn't a test of grip strength but finger strength. Related, but pulling with only your fingertips (w/out thumb) obviously yields way lower results than a classic grip strength test that you're referring to
I actually think that even though magnus is insanely strong Alex has a better finger strength because Magnus is not longer into competitive climbing. If I'm not mistaken Alex weighs somewhere between 50 and 60kg. So, him having a finger strength of 72kg is insane. Also I think there was a video where they compared grip strength and Magnus wasn't that good.
"you have two options: you have to get stronger.... oh that's actually the only option eh?"
Alex is killing me :D
And Alex is wrong, Matt could also simply lose 25 kilos to get the same power to weight ratio.
+Roland M. Dill simply lose 25 kilos 😂
he would have to cut off his legs
one possible solution

The best rock climbers are so awkward in public lol!
Don’t need to be social when you can climb rocks
alex honold seems pretty relaxed
Cacophonix Very nasty?
Magnus is not awkward only climber who can hold a conversation imo
shinra corp nah hes weird... really weird
"So yah... I can pull 20 kilos more but I'm 5 kilos lighter. So I can pull 25 kilos more." sounds reasonable xD
The funny thing is he pulls 20 kilos more with EACH hand... So he pulls 40 more overall, plus the fact he ways 5 less-
He can pull twice as hard 😂
(Context being a two handed move)
but when you do it with both hands
I think the will be 40+ more
@@jacobmendez655 but to be fair, in most of the ninth grade stuff u need to pull with just one hand^^
Haha, that was really entertaining. I have to say, after Charlie left, Matt had to fill some pretty big shoes, but he is doing really well! Really enjoying the shows with him. And Alex Megos seems like a cheeky guy, that was hilarious!
Thanks Anja! I will pass the message onto Matt! Thanks for watching!
Agreed! He is very entertaining and seems like a nice guy.
Anja WoundedKnee
This was hilarious ! well done Matt !!! Alex Megos is pretty chill and down to earth hahaha
This kid is hilarious and a smart ass: So I can pull 20 kg more than you but I'm 5 kg lighter.
"Thats actually the only option" :D Alex, Brüllaaah

4:30 I love the affirmation!!
Inappropriate finger jokes incoming.
Good battle
I like the host of this show. He's really entertaining👌🏼🙌🏽
Boy that isn't Alex, that's Titus from Final Fantasy X.
Good to see you just

Alex Legos so cool humble.
half of the video is you stealing food. I was laughting crazy! ;)
Alex is such a boss!
Alex is like the real life teen Naruto.
4:00 so much voice crack
Very constructive comments from Alex Megos, and a good German accidental joke.
Can someone explain to me what he said at 4:15 something about the ratings of climbs I’m pretty new to all this
Hahaha the ending.
The part of interest starts at 1:37
Error at 2:57, the units of 'Power' are NOT 'kilogram'
well, he got two options get stronger or get a better technique, technique is the most important thing in climbing afterall

Kelvin Climber, you should watch Louis Parkinson or Jan Hojer. Their training vids especially.
What’s the edge size?
Lol I knew this was gana be funny. alex is not just any climber
Careful dude! Don't' get sick!
I want upper body strength like that...
This is not upper body strength, just hand strength
free food is the best-very entertaining :D

Alex is so beautiful! He is memorizingly stunning
soph galv Totally agree. He's beautiful.
mesmerizingly?
Just love the channel. So funny every time
This guy is still dressing like it's 2003.
Felix Valdelamar a T-Shirt and Jeans?? Haha okay.
Dont worry soon theyre gonna get some ed hardy gear
i would really like to see the power of other pro climbers like adam ondra or the canadian one
I reckon they are far less powerful than alex. ondra has even admitted at one point that he couldn't do one arm pullup, but he said that it doesn't really matter :p
sean mccoll?
I could never do what he does, but I also don't look like Leonardo DiCaprio in "Whats Eating Gilbert Grape" either.
lmfaooooooooooo
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I thought that initially too. Sort of like an animé version of that character, but with the strength of Sly Stallone's character in Cliff Hanger.
Also the young Anakin Skywalker. SAME HAIR
i wonder what a strong guy would pull on such a test? does a video of it exist? what is the machine called?
Good to see he's got his priorities strait
Also Alex is super awkward
wtf is with alexs voice, he sounds like he just hit puberty
Joshua Kim he's german and so his voice breaks wen speaking English it happens a lot with Germans
He could probably crimp with more pressure, the system maxed out when he was supporting his entire body weight. If he had a weighted vest on he could see how much weight he could support with each hand.
exactly, he basically crimped his own bodyweight his like 99% of elite athletes can do on that edge :p, although I am pretty sure he is around 57kg
At 2:30 you can see there are feet straps, so he cant pull his feet off the ground. I'm sure he weighs less than 73kg
So how can Alex measure 72kg when he weighs less than that...are their feet strapped to the floor or something??
Ja
Megos looks like an animé character.
Does Alex only own one hat ?
I think the hosts hand broke after shaking hands with Alex at the end.
Half of his video are we seeing him eating
climbing is life
so he could pick me up with his fingers.. fucking hell
That just gave me an idea. I bet they let you everywhere if you just have a microphone and camera.
1:50...that guys voice :D
3:21 for thumbnail
Lmao the voice crack at 4:00
Isn't Alex Megos 5 foot 7 according to wikipedia? Wouldn't that make Matt like 5'6"?
How does this thing work? You're too zoomed in. Alex weighs way under 72 kg so was someone holding on to his feet? Was he holding a weight in the other hand?
Jesus that kids forearms fucking exploded when he grabbed on.
He may have done it better if we had added weight to his body, in order to apply and sustain more force. I think his fingers could have pulled better numbers
xD xD xD "I think it's the only option"
0:50 Spettekaka?
He looks like a sims character
alex would be a good arm wrestler
Thanks so much..
for the humiliation :(
that's guy's voice in the blue shirt is a crazy
I heard a rumour Matt was low balling and can actually campus silence ....
what does water with "gas" mean
so carbonated

You ever go back for a rematch?..
Imagine Magnus mitbo on this
Alex is at least as strong. I would even say he is probably a bit stronger.
alex is way stronger

That voice tho... No hate! xD
Hahaha fun video.
the worst voice crack I have ever heard at 4:15
:D have to ask if the presenter has broken his right arm xD just an odd shape
alex's voice is constantly cracking
So alex can pull 72kg per hand, so with both hands he can pull 144kg? Crazy
don't think that's how it works
@@aeronevans4337 it is exactly how it works
Wow he has stronger fingers 😂
Why do all the best climbers look so inhuman? Dont aliens have anything better to do then show up us humans at climbing?
incredible video, very moving, 3/10
HIS SHIRT ISNT YELLOW
This video could be 10 seconds looool. Glad I skipped most of it.
alex looks like hes about 12 wtf xD
"That's all we've got time for?" - Then why the fuck did you spend nearly two minutes walking around eating? Dead >.> Presenter needs to go
Haha brilliant
this dude Alex Megos is the definition of voice crack
"actually is the only option" 🤭🤭🤭

Alex's voice sounds like he gets constant voice cracks

ey look it is tarzan sounds like it atleast
Funny stuff, funny host
Damn I thought I was good at 56 kg!
44,444th sub on the 744th episode, good times ha
finger strength...😐
These accents lmao
Grip strength only ~150 lbs for a professional climber? I'm confused.
You realize that is per hand when he only weighs 125 pounds, and is 5 five feet 8 inches
and with just the tips of the fingers
