  • On day 12 we reached our second and final port of Nanortalik, Greenland on our Island Princess Iceland and Greenland Cruise. We spent the morning exploring Island Princess and we had a Princess excursion booked for the afternoon. Nanortalik is a small settlement in southern Greenland with a population of 1,185. It has a very small port which lead to some difficulties in allowing cruise passengers to explore this town. Nanrotalik is one of the most remote places we have ever visited, and we enjoyed experiencing the local way of life. We had booked an Iceberg Tour on a Rib, this allowed us to get up close and personal to many of the local icebergs. Back on island princess we again enjoyed the fantastic weather. It was White and Gold night during the evening with several events taking place in Explorers lounge. In the Princess Theater we got to experience Yaniv Zarif an incredible singer and entertainer. Our brief experience of Greenland and left us wanting to explore this incredible destination further.

    Island Princess is part of Princess Cruises' fleet and was launched in 2003. It belongs to the Coral-class of ships and has been a popular choice for travellers seeking a cruise experience with a balance of comfort and luxury. Princess Cruises, in general, is known for offering a range of amenities and services to make passengers' experiences enjoyable. The ship offers various entertainment options, including live performances, musicals, and themed events. Island Princess provides a variety of cabins and suites to cater to different preferences and budgets.
    We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.
    Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks. We include menus for each of cruises so that we can share the selection of drinks and meals that are available. Entertainment onboard a cruise ship is important to us and we enjoy theatre production shows, live music, quizzes and game shows. We love to explore different ports and destinations and enjoy sharing tips and tricks so that you can make the most of each port. We often explore ports independently but also book excursions that are interesting to us.

    I was surprised at the number of locals out and about as we only saw a few of the very old and the very young. Then, the explanation: it was Sunday. It was a shame the fish market wasn’t open for you, someone there spoke pretty good English and told me a lot. Going amongst the icebergs is an experience you won’t forget; we had a boat trip through the bergs up to the source glacier at a third port we stopped at. Even as a geographer knowing what to expect, they still took my breath away as they clearly did for you. The colours are spectacular. I can understand why you would like to go back.

      Thank you for watching and sharing your experiences. There is still so much we would want to see in Greenland. The natural environment and the culture we found captivating. We certainly would like to head further north if we do it again.

    It has been great retracing our steps on this cruise. Loving the videos. The icebergs were absolutely amazing. Hint for anyone going back to Nanortalik if you go to the open air museum there is another toilet at the ticket office you can use!

    We are cruising to Greenland and Iceland July 28th 2024 for 16 nights with Princess from Southampton
    Looking forward to Greenland thanks to your vlogs going to the same ports.
    will check out all your vlogs
    Many thanks.
    Have you cruised the Norwegian Fjords, we cruised the fjords 2023 just wanted to know if the cost of living is the the same very expensive .
    We like to have a local beer in town we paid £25 to £32 in Norway for 2 pints of craft beer, we knew the price so not a problem your on holiday so you have to try it.
    many thanks

      Thank you so much for watching. Greenland is a special place. We have cruised the fjords and we think you will love Prince Christian Sound. Cost of living is also high in Greenland so a beer may be pricey

    Watched. Looking at the iceberg rib, looks like we can book in either Qaqortoq or Nanortalik, does it make any difference? Might go for the first port then if I haven't had my fill might be able to go with a local offering in the second. Another brilliant video, thank you.

    • @TomandDomTravel
      @TomandDomTravel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for watching! We don’t think there is much difference. It’s really difficult to predict where the icebergs will be. So probably best keeping your options open

    Watched. Really interesting both to see the icebergs up close and get a glimpse of what life is like in a place so remote. My only question: Why wait on that long line to get back on the ship instead of going off to look around some, sit on a rock or do anything else but wait on line? If you are the last people to join the line when passengers are entering they still have to let you on, right? In my first and only cruise whenever I saw a line for anything I just went off and did something else.

    • @TomandDomTravel

    Really enjoyed your iceberg footage. Question: My camera isn't a hugely high end one, but by my standards would be pricey to replace. How much at risk will it be on the RIB tour from salt water? Thanks in advance!

    • @TomandDomTravel
      @TomandDomTravel  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for watching. Non of our iphones or camera equipment were at all affected by the salt water.

    I do have a question. Stairs are very difficult to me and I know on my upcoming cruise (Greenland/Iceland) that we will use the tenders to go to port. Are the stairs/steps from the ship down to where one boards the tender doable? Steep? Thanks so much.

    • @TomandDomTravel
      @TomandDomTravel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the question. Yes, although the stairs may be a little tricky we think they are doable. There are also members of crew on the stairs available to help you down and on to the tender.
