Tom and Dom Travel
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 มิ.ย. 2014
We are Tom and Dom and we love to travel. We have done many land-based holidays and city breaks but experienced our first cruise on MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. Many cruises later, with a variety of lines, we can now say we are officially hooked. When not cruising we can be found in South West Wales where Tom works for a charity founded by His Majesty The King and Dom is a Teacher and Head of Year in a Secondary school.
Our mission is to provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We have focus on showcasing a modern way of cruising.
Whilst travelling we review all elements that make up a great trip including food, entertainment, service and accommodation

Our ULTIMATE Strasbourg Food Tour and SCENIC Sailing on the Rhine - Riviera Travel DAY 4 VLOG
On day 4 of our Riviera Travel Gastronomy of Switzerland and the Rhine River Cruise we arrived in Strasbourg, France. As part of the gastronomy cruise, we got to experience some local delicacies while having an in-depth walking tour of Strasbourg. Strasbourg is a beautiful city, and our walking tour ended at the gothic Strasbourg cathedral. Back on Geoffrey Chaucer we enjoyed an afternoon of scenic sailing. In the evening, we dined in the Bistro, and we surprised by our experience. In lounge the entertainment for the evening was a quiz unlike any we have experienced previously.
Although we were invited on by Riviera our thoughts and opinions are our own.

Excellent boys, looks fantastic and it’s nice to watch people who can use cutlery!
Thank you for the compliment and thanks for watching. 😀
#teamsprouts I don't trust people who don't like sprouts. That looked like an amazing day. You haven't sold me on the apple sauce with macaroni cheese, though.
Apple sauce is much better than we expected
If you can, you should absolutely visit Strasbourg for 3-4 days. Everything I ate there was delicious (and I mean everything) and the city has so much character. Walking through Petit France could fill a whole day, and we went back there every day.
Thanks for watching. We would absolutely love to go back and spend some more time there
Nice. Appreciate the tour. 👍101
Thank you for watching. Have you been?
@ no, but looking around for River Cruises in June. This one looks good.
That’s great! This was a fantastic itinerary
I would really appreciate it if MSC includes a dedicated laptop working area in Aurea and Yacht cabins with a suitable desk chair.
Thanks for watching. A working area would be very useful
The food has looked great on your river cruise. ❤❤
Thanks for watching. We were really impressed with the quality of the food
Where did you dock to visit Strasbourg?
Thanks for watching. We were docked on the outskirts of Strasbourg just off the Rhine
Nice video. Thanks for showing us some of Strasbourg and your shipboard life.
Thank you for watching. Have you been to Strasbourg before?
@ No, it’s been on our list but has been moved down since we saw similar half-timbered houses in Rouen. However Rouen doesn’t have the French-German ambiance. Maybe some day.
@scottandtracytraveling we must add Rouen to our list
@ We visited Rouen by train from Le Harve during a Transatlantic cruise
@scottandtracytraveling good shout. We didn’t think about that. We know a few cruises will sail there.
Hi guys! That Gothic Cathedral is something else! The food looks pretty epic too. We look forward to seeing the next one.
Thanks for watching. We were very impressed with Strasbourg.
The quiz looked great fun.
Thank you! It was very lively for a river cruise 😂
We were able to visit Strasbourg on a Viking cruise in June 2023. Thanks for providing happy memories.
Thanks for watching. Did you manage to taste any of the food whilst there?
Um, just technically, yes. After touring the inside of the cathedral, we stopped at a cafe across the way and did some people watching over some wine and a snack. But we had lunch back on the boat. I think I like your arrangements better. Later in the day, I was impressed to see our boat maneuvered through a lock by the captain standing at an auxiliary console. I still can't imagine how he can steer such a long boat through the narrow lock without damaging either. @@TomandDomTravel
We were very tempted by a a glass of wine as well. The captain’s are fantastic.
£10 for Eggs on Toast?! No wonder we go to Spoons! 😂That room looks amazing! Always wanted to try a river cruise, the views are so pretty!
Thanks for watching! We would absolutely recommend a river cruise
jimmy cricket i think he used to entertain the troops in the first world war and then in the second one
Haha it could be true 🤣
Can you drink in MSC theatre?
Yes you can. You will have to take it from a bar with you as there is no bar service in the theatre
Excellent tour. Pleased I found your channel. I appreciated the clear, calm and effective narration.
Thank you so much for watching. Do you have a cruise booked on Voyager?
Great to hear from you. Don't have a booking yet, but last year experienced a carabean cruise with one of the Marella ships.
Fantastic!
I loved Southampton! Particularly the Ocean Village!
That’s a very popular spot especially in the summer
Thanks! Will be visiting in June before a cruise. Very useful. I tried to book a room at the White Star but they were already full for some of my nights.
That’s for watching. We look forward to hearing how you get on. The White star can be very popular. Hopefully you can visit again in the future.
@TomandDomTravel with luck I'll be fine at the Travelodge
@abrahamclott5604 the Travelodge is fine. It’s very central to the city. We have stayed there a number of times.
@TomandDomTravel Thanks for the reassurance. Very helpful. This is my first visit to the UK and I gave lots of thought to staying in London, but I got such a good rate at Southampton Travelodge that I figured I'm far better off there and taking the train in to London for day trips. And I do want to see some smaller towns too, there are real advantages to being right by the port, and real advantages to having one hotel stay rather than two were I to divide my time. But I can't not make it to the British Museum and at least see some of the iconic London sites!
@abrahamclott5604 the British museum is one of our favourite places to visit. Look out for their free guided exhibition tours
Those pancakes 😍😍. I was in Southampton 2 years ago before a cruise and had no idea there was so much to do. If I'm ever there again, I'll definitely come back to this video for some ideas.
That’s fantastic. Let us know if you are heading back.
Definitely want to try these gone to the sea city museum but never heard of these others! Going to try some next time and also Cobwebs (an ocean liner/ship memorabilia shop!)
That’s great! Thanks for watching. We can’t wait to hear how you get on
@TomandDomTravel thanks! Will be in our next vlog (Queen Victoria!!)
Looking forward to it
Fascinating video thanks Tom and Dom hope to see you soon and Glad you moving to your new house. remember to take those binoculars to enjoy the details out of reach in your travels!
Thanks Steve! Those binoculars are great. Can’t wait to test them out 😀
Great video guys and as a Southampton resident, born & bred, I'm inspired to take a look around, especially that Tavern. So glad you didn't show the disgraceful, dilapidated pier 😊
Our pleasure! Yes that pier isn’t looking great
Hi guys are you going to do a full review of voyager? Be interested in your thoughts compared to other cruise ships. Particularly Marella compared to P and O Thank you
Thanks for the question. Yes we plan to do a review. It will be coming out soon
Looks lovely - I’d never considered joining a cruise by Eurostar - a new one to add to the list!!!
Thanks for watching. It’s a great option especially for those who aren’t keen on flying
Thanks for this. I'll be booking with Cruise Express for sure when we are there in a few weeks time. Such a helpful review / info :)
Thank you for watching. We hope you have a great visit. Here is the link we use to Viator Cruise Express - rb.gy/vd5rtx
@@TomandDomTravel Superb, thanks :)
Hello Tom and Dom. I just want to reach out and say thank you for your amazing and positive holiday reviews. We love watching your videos and are just about to go on an Azura fly cruise based on your review. We love watching your content and thinking you are an amazing couple. Keep up the good work 😊
Wow! Thank you so much. We really appreciate your support. We hope you have an amazing time. Please do let us know how you get on. T&D
We'd so love to cruise on a river boat. It's just SO far for us Aussies! :-) Glad to be able to follow you doing it for us! *hugs*
Thank you for watching. It’s a shame it’s so far. We feel the same about visiting Australia. It’s somewhere we would love to visit
Titisee looks lovely. I’ve always wanted to go to the Black Forest - that cake looks delicious!
Thanks for watching. It really was a beautiful place
Watched this whilst having dinner. The river boat looks so nice! Loved how Dom says YOgurt ha ha - very posh! Lunch looked great and we know Dom loves a burger the pizza looked super too. Gutted you didn’t take part in the cuckoo clock talk……..😊😊 Dinner looked mega too. Keep up the great work gents. ❤
Thanks for watching. Not many call Dom posh. 🤣 It was clocks or cake and of course we went cake! Hope you had a great dinner 😀
Great video but fyi that's not champagne, it's sparkling wine. It's still a great touch by the company!
Thank you. Shall make sure we say that in future posts
Breisach is the nearest German town to where we camped in the 1970s on L'île de rhin - which is in the middle of the Rhine between Breisach and Neuf-Brisach on the French side. (The area has been fought over a lot for centuries) You were also close to the Kaiserstuhl -a single mountain next to the Black Forest which is reputed to be the place in Germany with the best weather! You also went through the historic city of Freiburg-am-Breisgau which is a major university city and was where as a teenage navigator discovered what a one way street was in German eine Einbahnstraße as we went the wrong way down one and were corrected in German oops.
Thanks for watching. We are sure we passed through the university town on the coach. We can confirm the weather was great there!
@@TomandDomTravel I know time was limited but one of the greatest paintings of the German renaissance is on the French side of the river in Colmar - it is the Isenheim Altarpiece. Seeing that piece by Grünewald from 1517 or so which he painted for a plague and leprosy hospital has Christ suffering from a terrible skin complaint and in complete agony It stuck in my mind and was something I valued seeing.
@johncrwarner that’s great to know. Another reason to go back
Thank you another great video. Any mid night snacks as we all know you love them ))
Surprisingly we didn’t. Food in the evening was very filling. No late night food on Riviera except for cookies 🍪
Thank you for showing us what a day is like on a river cruise-we’ve never done one.
Thank you for watching. Each day was a little different experience. Next weeks is another unique one
Thanks for some great travel vids . (As newbie to cruising ) Where is the best place for great cruise deals like the one featured in this vlog.
Thank you! Our go to website for searching for cruises is Iglu. They have an option to list cruises by value. We also use the My Kind Of Cruise App
If we have 2 cabins 4 adults can one of us just make one booking for the table for breakfast lunch dinner? Or do you have make 2 bookings
@@callum9880 one of you can join the virtual queue for the whole group. The system will as you then number of people in your party. 4 adults though should have no problems with getting a walk up table if you wanted to. Please remember embarkation day dinner is always the busiest
How much was the gin tasting in Anderson’s? The chefs for celebration night in horizon is that the same menu as eating in the MDRs?
Thanks for the question. It was around £75 pp when we cruised and it had to be booked at the Andersons bar as soon as you get on.
In the dining rooms what was the biggest table you saw or you could book in the main dining room ?
Thanks for the question. There were a few larger tables of 10-12 persons. We would recommend speaking with the restaurant manager on the day of embarkation and we are sure they will do their best to accommodate you
As good as the one I have had on Britannia last week. Bathroom there was equally compact. Did not use my fridge and with Ambassador having a total ban on any drinks being bought on board on embarkation then not having one in my cabin would not be of great loss.
Thanks for watching. Great to hear it would have little impact on your experience
Hi Tom & Dom, This video is very informative, thank you. I've just booked a cruise aboard Ambience (no drinks package) and I wondered if it's possible to take a free coffee, tea or glass of water from Borough Market to, for example, Centre Court, to drink it there? Similarly, is it possible to take a glass of water from Borough Market to my cabin, to avoid having to pay for the expensive bottled water provided? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the question. When we were onboard Ambience passengers were able to take both hot drinks and water out of Borough Market. We often took water back to the cabin at the end of an evening
@@TomandDomTravel Thanks for your prompt reply! That's really useful to know, thank you! 🙂
Thank you. Have a great cruise
