WOW what a great review! Nice job, Joe! Thank you such stark honesty. You've been kind and to the point. I've been on several cruise lines and was just on my first Princess cruise, on an older ship, and was very happy with it, although it needs some updating. I couldn't agree with you more about the staff, the food, the entertainment--all VERY good. I will cruise Princess again.
My husband and I have been cruising with princess for long time. After watching your video, we definitely going in this ship because of YOUR comment. Thanks.
I'm heading out for a solo journey on The Sun Princess in 2 weeks! Really enjoyed your video! This will be my 7th Princess cruise. Love the staff and of course the food! Thank you so much for sharing a video of the bathroom! I'm thrilled to see larger showers on the new ships!
Thank you for devoting so much of your time while on holiday to making this series about Sun Princess. I enjoyed each minute and appreciate your honest perspective. Please do more.
I really love your videos... So easy to listen to. Very organized. Im almost having FOMO already and haven't even booked on Princess yet..lol 7 day cruise, several ports, 21 venues, I will never sample all of them in one cruise..I also appreciate your Love for the older less flashy ships. I sailed on Ruby Princess, and I found her quite comfortable. Im looking forward to a cruise on Coral or Island, and then some other Grand Class ships.. Keep on Cruising. More comments...lol solo travel is my fav.. no arguments about where to go, when to go etc. I meet so many lovely people and I usually initiate conversations.. As for the complaints about layouts...as a former travel agent, the Princess Passenger is extraordinarily pampered. People who have been with them for over 25 years, the 1995 Sun Princess was a smaller version of the current Grand Class. All the Grand Class are identical, so people get on and know RIGHT where things are.. The Royal class probably had them all mixed up for a bit, but they are in service more than 5 years now, so they're comfortable with it... It will be a complaint for a year or so, until the Star Princess comes out and they get used to everything.
Thank you!You haven't booked... yet!! haha, make sure you change that. really happy to hear that you enjoy the videos. I am sure there will be more cruising in the future, but I hope you enjoy the other videos in the meantime.
I'm sailing on the Sun in early November for a BTB through the Caribbean, solo! I loved your review and now I'm eagerly awaiting my upcoming adventure. I've sailed on Princess for over 50 years. I would never consider sailing on any other line. I will miss the familiarity of most of the Princess ships, so getting used to the Sun will take a minute. In the Piazza, what is missing is the grand staircases. The staircases are elegant and beautifully designed to make the heart of the ship look elegant and picturesque. I don't think the Sun Piazza is very picturesque but it does make 3 levels of viewing possible. Thanks for the great review!
One benefit to the medallion is being able to track people in your group. This comes in pretty handy when some one says they're going to "just nap" in the cabin. Haha! Caught you in the casino!
Thanks a Great review. We are looking forward to being on the new Sun Princess. (We are long time Princess cruisers) and have booked the transatlantic trip with 8 sea days to try out the ship to its full. Very excited we look forward to having something a different from Princess.
Thanks Joey. Really enjoyed your videos about Sun Princess. We will be on this ship in a couple of weeks and so looking forward to it. I think we will enjoy and feel I kinda know the layout of it even before we get there. Keep the video’s coming. 😊👍🏻 Thanks
Really balanced and honest opinion about the Sun Princess, certainly seemed amazing. I think just for the food alone I'd be there. I would be interested to see more cruise content from you 😃
great review !! looking at the Piazza, and don't hate me for this.... it feels like a mall food court . We were on the Royal Princess and the Piazza felt ...I don't know, regal....it was just beautiful. this definitely doesn't have that same WOW factor. that being said, we will be on this ship, in February, so it might feel different in person. Your video is super helpful though giving us a feel for it before we get on this ship
happy to hear it, you never know you may be surprised by it. Even if not, it is a gorgeous ship overall so np worries there, you will have a great time
You forgot the 2 biggest improvements in the standard Princess cabins: FINALLY a glass enclosed shower and not those horrible sticky & clingy curtains...I hated those..also, FINALLY a nice big comfy sofa couch..the cabins on Regal, Enchanted & Crown Princess were the worst I've been on on 46 cruises over 7 cruise lines ..so nice to have somewhere to sit & eat..somewhere to put your stuff on...we are going on the Sun in October...just the cabins are a huge improvement! Now all they need is a sports bar & beverage holders in the theaters...
@@angelapolland5137 ..Correct! I don't associate "premium" cruise lines like Holland American , Celebrity & Princess with cheap curtain showers..ALL others ( RCI, NCL, Disney, Celebrity, HAL & Carnival ) I've cruised on have BOTH glass enclosed showers and a nice 6 ft sofa couch...only the mini suites have a couch ...
I left them out as I knew you would come to share it with us ;) You are right though, the shower is much nicer! Sports bar would be a huge plus, I presume there are licensing issues.
@@glendacollins2898 ...again, all Princess ships before have those clingy, awful curtained showers...this is why just the glass enclosed showers AND the sofa couch ( also not on any Princess STANDARD balcony cabins ) are 100% improvement..should be great just to have a place to sit, lye down, put your stuff on, and a place to eat finally...
Hello, can you do Q&A, we would love to learn more about you! ❤ Love the cruz vids! Really appreciated the food review as no one else has gone into such detail. ❤
Loved the video. Very informative. 1 question - I didn't get out of it whether you thought the premium package for an extra $90/day was worth it? Your thoughts
My fiance and I are going on Sun in March and I'm SO excited! One of the things we loved most when researching is that the ship was more compartmentalized! I get pretty anxious around big crowds, so a large promenade such as on Royal Caribbean would be way too intense for me. Plus, those spaces just seem like a way for them to try and sell you more things, as the shops are typically in that area. Where as on Sun Princess, the shops are separated down their own corridor which is so incredible to me. I really dislike when a company that you've spent quite a lot of money with to take your vacation, tries to sell you more products or get you to spend more money on board. The design of Sun was a huge factor to us in booking our cruise! Great video!
I guess there are always there to upsell, that is just part and parcel of it, but it isn't pushy, and you can just get on with your holiday and avoid it, without missing out. With 4000 people on the ship, you will have to expect people, but I don't think you will be overwhelmed. You are going to love it and have an amazing cruise!
@@TheJoeyP not yet. It will be in January. I just got back from Royal’s Jewel of the Seas. That ship needs to be retired. Thanks for reading my comment!
The cabana is great for folks fitting 3 or 4 people in a cabin. You can have the pull out in bed configuration but still have a tv/sitting area to relax in.
Great video. When you do the food reviews it would be useful if you could mention what gluten free options are available...as this is our main concern when choosing a cruise line. Thanks. John and Gill.
noted, I did mention it in one video, I cannot remember which, but Princess do think of that and there are vegan and veggie options on every menu, as well as allergy info and options.
I met people last week who had just left Sun Princess, and they were disappointed with just how busy Sun Princess was. It's going to be interesting to watch Princess continue to adapt to the megaship world!
Well sure, you can’t just hide 3000-4000 people haha. But if you go in with the right expectations, I think it’s fine and the compartmentalisation helps. I was in a capacity cruise and I didn’t feel overwhelmed at any point. You don’t book a ship of that size and expect it to be quiet. But it wasn’t overbearing, and for me, it worked.
Hey Joey. Great video. I'll be on the Sun Princess in late September for her first transatlantic crossing to Florida. But, you didn't mention Park 19. What did you think of it and the news that it might not be opening... ever. Do you know any more about what's going on there?
Thanks! Yes, would enjoy more cruise videos. I've been on 2 cruises. Both solo. Both Princess: The Emerald to Canada/NE and then The Sapphire to Alaska. Loved more than I expected. Was suspicious of cruising--thought it would be unrewarding and superficial to visit ports only for a day and that the party atmosphere would repulse me. Instead, I found that each port gave me a wonderful opportunity for a special and meaningful day, that I could always find a beautiful quiet place away from the crowds, and that the level of food and service made for a very relaxing and comfortable vacation. I've convinced my husband to try it and we're booked on The Enchanted for Canada/NE and, if he likes it, have a hold on The Majestic for the Caribbean. Not sure about The Sun. Many doubts. I dont like the look of the Piazza and I think I would miss having the beautiful Emerald or Sapphire piazza for more low-keyed entertainment. The Sun piazza looks noisy. I have only had interior rooms and i liked them just fine. I like the walk-in closet dressing area and think i like that better than having closets in the bedroom. The shower curtain doesnt bother me. I loved The Sanctuary on the Sapphire and Emerald. On The Sun, it isnt even available to a passenger with an interior room. I saw it as my alternative to a balcony. The Sun seems more geared to families. Not my need. I love the full promenade decks on The Emerald and Sapphire. I understand there is no promenade on the Sun. I will have to see how I like The Enchanted and Majestic, which are both larger than the two Ive sampled. But from what i've read, they both sound great. But not sure about The Sun ....
Glad you enjoyed the videos. Piazza, for sure, but every piazza is noisy, regardless of the look. Sun is a great ship and the more time you spend on it, the more time you appreciate the design and layout. It does take a little adaptation though.
excellent review, very nice to get a solo cruisers perspective also - almost never see this ! May I ask 2 questions please 1-did you use the internet on board and did it work OK 2- did you use the spa on board and do you know the prices to use the spa ? thanks in advance
yes, I used the internet, it was too slow for uploading videos etc, but perfectly fine for normal use. But it is nothing to write home about! Maybe that is a good thing though. I didn't use the Spa here, but I did on Sky Princess and it was great. For prices, I cannot remember off the top of my head, sorry. It is definitely a treat though.
I was on the Sun Princess for two weeks in July here are my thoughts. 1.Food The food is in all the Places was top notch buffet was great and I love that they serve you, no more people sticking their fingers in the food. Dining room was very good also. Specialty was yummy as well. They do have a lot of extra charge venues here so that may or may not make you happy. Everyone ( or most ) like regular chocolate chip cookies but in 14 days they only had them out 3 days and they were always gone. Drinks were very good and great fast service. 2. The Piazza and Princess live two places where there's entertainment all day and all night are to close to each other. You might want to listen to a guest speaker or play trivia or bingo and you have the music playing so loud from the piazza it makes it hard to hear whats going on in Princess live. You won't find a Vista lounge on this ship so events that go on there are held in Live or the Piazza and their not big enough. If you don't get to Princess live early you won't get a seat. Only some of the seats in the Piazza can see the screen. So many people walking by when you're having a game show or trivia and they yell out answers. The comedians use to be in the vista lounge now have to perform in Princess Live they do 3 shows so that blocks having over events like karaoke. Even with 3 shows once again it fills up and if you don't get there early you won't get a seat. 3. Guest services is very small and always under staffed so you could wait and the line blocks the elevators if it's busy. 4. Park 19 will not be opening up the glide ride and the rope course because it could not pass inspection code. Big time failure sorry for the people who booked that have kids. In the end great ship the food and drinks were great but I don't feel it was designed well. I disagree with Joey on the feel of the ship it felt very busy to me. Most Princess ship are 2,000 to 3,500 this one had over 4,500 people on it and sure did feel and look busy.
thanks for your input, I am sure people will find it useful. I just didn't feel that it was that busy, you have to expect to see people with 4000 people onboard, that is expected. But I never felt overwhelmed
@@TheJoeyP we travelled on sun princess last week in the mediterranean sea. The ship is marvellous but the food in the eatery have not variety, very asian food, salad and italian pasta and only one kind of fish and there´s not chicken every day. The orange juice in the morning is horrible with a lot of sugar. At night, in the dinning is completely different, great service, variety and very good food. That s my honest opinion.
what kind of video editing software do you use because you’re opening titles and everything look nice. I’m currently on a four-year and two month cruise and I have lots of footage, but I would like to make more professional videos.
4 year?? That’s awesome haha! I use Adobe Premiere - but I’ve also started to use Final Cut Pro X because it runs faster on my Mac. But using a pro video editor does make a big difference (albeit with a steep learning curve and initial cost outlay)
Good honest review, cannot see the point in the cabana in the room prefer mini suite on Sky princess. Also find the piazza looks like a shopping centre not as beautiful as Sky Princess. Pools look fabulous. Don't think it's for us. 😢
I am a more classical person, like you. I have traveled on several Princess ships and the ones I have been on, they are classical in style. Yes, the cabana suite is a little overkill for a cabin. A balcony cabin is great and enough. One may relax in a cabin, but most of the time is spent on other decks. The retractable dome on Sun Princess is amazing and will be valuable and various cruise destinations she sails. I love the staff on all the Princess ships. They do work hard and love what they do. I will not go in or through the Casino because of the smoke. It is a shame they do not have another TV with sports programs. A sports bar is a good idea. I love the medallion that Princess uses. I believe it sets them apart from other cruise experiences.
SANCTUARY - Sorry folks, but Princess is now changing over to their new SANCTUARY CLUB class system, and ONLY suites and 'sanctuary' mini suites' and cabins have access. Other guests can not go in there, at any price.
that is a huge turnoff and they are making the ship a "class system" which is why we left Celebrity. those rooms arre double the price and if you don't drink , go to th Sanctuary every single day and aree a vegetarian and pescatarian it is cost prohibitive. I hope it fails. Quickly.
@@glendacollins2898 Why so? You do not need to book these rooms or visit the sanctuary to enjoy your cruise. Isn't the point that there are options at every price point, you could literally go on the cruise on the base package and have a great time. If you want to spend more or tailor your experience, you can also do so. But it certainly is not required.
1000% agree about the Piazza... Princess has gone from nice-resort/cruise ship to something more like a corporate convention. And, no, I do NOT like that.
Super disappointing to see the bit about the casino. Most cruises are going away from smoking casinos. It may change my mind about cruising on this beauty which is quite regrettable.
well... just do like I do, avoid the casino. I am not a gambler anyway, especially on a holiday. The smoke stays in the casino, so if you avoid it... you would never know
@ I don’t gamble much. I usually spend a maximum of 200 bucks and have only left once in the negative. But I may avoid altogether because I hate cigarette smoke.
Second overall cruise? So what you're saying is that you really lack a meaningful benchmark against which your comparison relies. You are right however that to the uninitiated, this may be somewhat useful. To all other experience cruisers, it's all baseless conjecture. If you'd had previous relevant cruising experience, your conclusions are likely to be somewhat different.
so of course you disagreed with everything I said in the video - It is a video called my opinion... I can hold that no matter whether it is my first or 1000th cruise. it is up to the viewers if they find it useful. Judging by the comments... on this video and the others, they do :)

@@TheJoeyP thank you for your input. I finish in May next year that will be four years and two months nonstop
Smoking is a turn off to me too! And they push drinking packages so much, I don’t understand why no Sports Bars!
Agreed, it must be something to do with licensing
Good honest review, cannot see the point in the cabana in the room prefer mini suite on Sky princess. Also find the piazza looks like a shopping centre not as beautiful as Sky Princess. Pools look fabulous. Don't think it's for us. 😢
agreed, but I am sure there will be people out there who find their uses for it
Very surprised the sanctuary does not have shade.
yeah, I didn't notice that actually
Very informative
thank you! glad you found it so
Hi Joe! 👋
Hey hey
Better yet, ban smoking in the casino or breathe a sealed room for them so they can enjoy the first second third etc hand smoke,!
I have asthma, so I have to walk around with my inhale in case I go through the casino. I don't really get to enjoy the casino because of this.
well, that would be ideal, but that isn't going to happen for obvious reasons
I like the classy original piazza much more! It’s a little bit vanilla the new one.
I agree!!
Looks like we are very aligned, so there’s at least one person who agrees with my points haha
Wow! 😮 inside the Princess sun ship cruise 🛳 ✨️ is
stunning! 😍 👌 beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
It really is!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
SANCTUARY - Sorry folks, but Princess is now changing over to their new SANCTUARY CLUB class system, and ONLY suites and 'sanctuary' mini suites' and cabins have access. Other guests can not go in there, at any price.
Good. As someone who just got off the ship, this is great news
interesting - are you sure that is the sanctuary? Or the cabana deck?
It's The Sanctuary. They're calling the whole thing "The Sanctuary Collection."
that is a huge turnoff and they are making the ship a "class system" which is why we left Celebrity. those rooms arre double the price and if you don't drink , go to th Sanctuary every single day and aree a vegetarian and pescatarian it is cost prohibitive.
We just booked our cruise on Sun Princess. It’s going to be a long 346 days. 😂🎉
you are going to love it! time to get excited!
Always remember.....Solo travel is better than No travel
that is for sure!!
1000% agree about the Piazza... Princess has gone from nice-resort/cruise ship to something more like a corporate convention.
And, no, I do NOT like that.
I don't think it is quite that far, it is certainly preferences, and the good thing is that you have choices across ships
I've never understood fasting. I can't do it. I would be so hungry.
haha you get used to it pretty quickly and the results are great!
"I cannot complain". Does that mean you are predisposed to complain? What a silly throw away phrase.
Yep! That’s me, a negative Nelly, triggered by pointless things and complaining all the time 👀
@@TheJoeyP Well, I guess it's a sign of the times. Excellent series by the way. Well done.

:)
Sorry it looks like a shopping center
I wish my shopping centre had pools 😂
Second overall cruise? So what you're saying is that you really lack a meaningful benchmark against which your comparison relies. You are right however that to the uninitiated, this may be somewhat useful. To all other experience cruisers, it's all baseless conjecture. If you'd had previous relevant cruising experience, your conclusions are likely to be somewhat different.
so of course you disagreed with everything I said in the video - It is a video called my opinion... I can hold that no matter whether it is my first or 1000th cruise. it is up to the viewers if they find it useful. Judging by the comments... on this video and the others, they do :)
Wow
i love your videos but please... can't you eat while you talk... it would be nice and definitely thanks for the great info 🤞☺️
Can I or can’t I? Haha
