I learned from Cat and always enjoyed her company. She died to soon and I miss her humor and her love of teaching. I cried when I first heard her voice on this video. Love you. Thanks for all the good times!
Golly how I miss Cat! Grateful her channel is still available to not only reference things I've not used in a while but also to hear her calm and peaceful voice and demeanor while teaching. I've never thought to tie the end to the yarn before, what a great idea! Cat you still teach and inspire us from Summerland.
This is such a helpful tutorial. No excess chatter, just here is how you do it, broken down into appropriate steps with a printed recall of process. Thank you for reposting this. Thank you, thank you!
It’s hard to accept that Cat is gone, but here I am referencing Judy’s Magic Cast-On because it’s been so long since I cast on Toe-Up that I needed a refresher. You will always be my most fun and sweetest teacher. Jenny I always reference your Mother’s videos and I hope that I will still get the chance to continue to do so in the future. ❤️💜
You prolly dont care but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
I like your use of this cast-on for toe up socks. The smaller number of starting stitches, increased, makes for a nice rounded toe, without the bumps from the increases of other ways of knitting socks. Blessings!❤️
Ahhhh....awesome sauce @Cat Bordhi!!!! Have used so many of your videos, especially the older JMCO for my sock classes! Thank you many times over!! Dawn Harrell
Having my students describe what is happening in their own words is one of the most amazing teaching tools I uncovered. You can give them mantras and cute little rhymes all you want, but nothing makes it stick for them like their own description. Much clearer than your old video!
Thanks for the updated video. Volume was low, thanks because you have a great relaxing voice, headsets helped . Thank you for your precious time. ❤️💕❤️💕❤️💕
Wish I could hear you. I have taken classes by you in Lakewood Wa. and we all had a lot of fun. But today I have to put my ear on my tablet to hear you. Sorry, Sally
Hi Sally, I too wish you'd been there! I do hold knitting retreats in Friday Harbor, not so far away from you...see catbordhi.com. Would love to welcome you!
Thank you for posting this - a "slap my forehead, ah-ha!" moment. I'm usually quick to see a point like this, but I was distracted remembering the previous video tutorial.
Suppose I want to be able to knit the first round through the back loops, so I want all the cast on stitches to be mounted with the leading leg in back (so ktb will correct them)? I know Judy Becker's video says it doesn't matter how you wrap because you can correct backwards-mounted stitches, but which way do I wrap to *get* backwards mounted stitches? My brain is getting all twisted up! 😄
I can't believe I have been doing this wrong all along. I have always mirrored the top stitches to the bottom instead of coming in through the middle. They always come out looking good but man do I feel silly
This is how to start socks? Or can it be used for anything circular and magic loop knitting? It’s been a while since I knitted in the round, sorry to sound stupid.
You can use it to start anything round that’s basically two flat pieces joined at the edges, like a sock or a non-pleated bag. You wouldn’t want to use it for a hat (other than a garrison hat knit top down). It wouldn’t work for a sweater at all because it’s closed at the end. It makes a pouch, not a tube. It also can be used as a cast-on for flat double knitting if you use two different yarns tied together at the point of your first stitch, though you need to rearrange the stitches onto one needle afterward.
Billy0721 thank you! I want to make leg warmers, which is a tube, and probably should use magic loop on circulars... just need a “refresher” in my head
Gerrie Louden Bell Right, JMCO wouldn’t work for that. I would use a stretchy cast on, probably the Old Norwegian/Twisted German cast on, and join in the round. Plain old long tail will also work as long as you don’t cast on too tightly. Happy knitting.

Love to Jenny. Thank you for your Moms youtube ❤ 🙏
I watch this every time I need the cast on!
I was just thinking the same. What a wonderful legacy she left!
The best tutorial on this cast on I have found.
Thank you! Your original video is how I learned to make Judy's magic cast on. You are an excellent teacher!
Best verbal and visual explanation I have found
Thanks SO much. I looked at 5 videos before this one; yours is the best...i could actually do it correctly!
It’s great to see you back online. I like this version of Judy’s Magic Cast-On better than the other one too. Thanks.
THANK YOU! So very clear and simple. I appreciate the written segments, reinforcing the technique. Excellent teaching!
Thank you so much Miss Bordhi!! I always turn to you for my knitting needs! You’re the best, and have made me a better knitter!

Oh Cat, I love you and miss you!
Thank You Cat, again and again
Thanks Cat. As always you’re very clear and concise. Good to see you back on TH-cam ❤️
This definitely a better and clearer tutorial. Thanks again Cat for all your help
Hi Elayne, glad you agree with me! I've been wanting to do this for a long time.
All your tutorials and videos are wonderful. Thanks for the update though your older video is how I learned. You are kind to do this
Thanks, Karen. I've now taught the JMCO in person to about 10,000 individuals so I wanted to share this approach.
Thank you, very informative and easy to follow!
Glad to see you back. I enjoy your tutorials.
Best tutorial for the JMCO technique! Thank you so much!

Great video- sound is good- instructions are fantabulous! Thanks Cat.
Such a great teacher slow an go thank you Cat❤
Best video and narrative for this cast on
your video may give me what I need to try JMCO again ... thank you
Great instructions! Easy to follow and understand. Thank you!!

Not sure what's going on with the audio for you --- it seems to work fine on other computers I've checked on. Hope it works for you!!!
I also could not hear you... Everything up to 100% volume but your voice is about 15% to 20%. Hard to watch with my ear close to the computer monitor.
The same for me. Audio is very weak...
Yes, audio very indistinct. But a picture is worth a thousand words. 😉
Thank you, very good video
To me, it's the same action for both needles. Yarn comes up the front side of the needle and down over its back.
Thank you for posting this - a "slap my forehead, ah-ha!" moment. I'm usually quick to see a point like this, but I was distracted remembering the previous video tutorial.
Excellent tutorial! Thanks
Excellent demo- my first try and it came out perfectly! Does anyone know what yarn Cat is using? It's gorgeous!
Thank you for this interesting video!
I love your videos and I could hear you fine.

Judy's original presentation on Knitty many years ago was done that way. Mine mounts everything traditionally.
I can't believe I have been doing this wrong all along. I have always mirrored the top stitches to the bottom instead of coming in through the middle. They always come out looking good but man do I feel silly
Having the two colors really helps. But...could you use a solid background next time. I found the grid distracting. Otherwise, great tutorial!

No question is stupid. Trust me. Right now I am viewing this as a way to cast on for a hat.
Could not hear you! Everything up to 100% volume but your voice is about 15% to 20%. Hope you can adjust your microphone somehow. Thanks.
The sound is really muted for this video.
Hmmmm....not sure what this is about. You are the third person to say so.
Is this a response to VeryPinkKnits doing it wrong in her most recent video? Lol
Still trying, ugh frustrated
go to Ravelry, they will help you
