    Finally, a video that shows how to get the needle and stitches positioned. Thank you.

    Hi. Love these! I made one a long time ago for my dear mother and I want to make another, but my 70-year-old brain gets foggy sometimes. I noted your struggle with getting the stitches onto the left needle. Somewhere on this wonderful thing we call the internet, I came across a suggestion that if you have interchangeable needle tips, use a tip that is 2 sizes smaller than the working (right hand) needle.
    If you are blessed with left handedness, your working needle would be the left needle, and the right-hand needle would be the smaller one.
    Having reduced the non-working needle's size, the stitches are much more easily moved! (And it's easier on arthritic thumb joints, too!)

    I am surprised you are not crediting Cat Bordhi for inventing this cast on. This is a nice demonstration but Cat deserves acknowledgement for it.

    This is a very good demonstration of Cat Bordhi’s Mobius cast on. The reason it suits the way I learn is because of the clear and concise instructions. There isn’t any more information than Cat’s demonstration, it’s just less chatter and the lighting and video is really good quality. I’m also disappointed in the lack of acknowledgment of the original inventor of the process, would you please add that information into your video even if it is written into the title? or added onto the screen? Thank you.

    I have played with paper Mobius strips since I was about 7. But the idea of a knitted article having only one edge, the bind off edge, blows my mind still xD

      The idea of only having one side, the right side, is the part that blows my mind. ;)

  • @suzettehelms

    I have not tried the technique yet, but I'm a little puzzled about how the scarf is completed. I'm guessing that there is no bind off to do, but how do you know when you are done? Just finish your stitch pattern and take your needles out?

      Instead of being one of the edges, the cast on is at the center of the shawl (lengthwise). So, instead knitting on one side of the cast on stitches like we normally do, in the first round of knitting you're actually working into both sides of the cast on sts. Even though the stitches are arranged on your needles so it seems like you're knitting in the round, you're really knitting a 3 dimensional figure eight. One round of knitting adds a row of height above the CO and a row of height below the CO. If you want your shawl to have a width of 100 rounds, you would only need to knit 50 rounds. And then you just bind off like normal. Hope that makes sense. 😊

    What blows MY mind is.... after the first half-row, how in the world did the stitch marker jump from the bottom cord to the top needle tip???

      I'm going to go with magic. 😉 Isn't knitting amazing?!

      @@thechillydog Yes well, magic is fine ;) I would still have loved a more technical explanation from the designer!

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The less than magical answer is to remember that you're not knitting in the round, even though it seems like you are. Really you're making a Mobius, a sort of 3-dimensional figure 8. So when you get halfway through the first round you've knit halfway around the 8. It's kind of hard to put into words without a visual, but I hope that makes sense.
