Yeah, insane to see the number of 'meaningless' matches taking place during the season, that seemed to feature many first team players. I think the more steady pace of the game back then helped. You could get through most of the season with a small squad, rarely changing players. It also looks crazy to only have two subs on the bench ... Considering these days it's common to have 1-2 minor injuries forcing players off the pitch most matches.
They also had to take part in the "Football League Centenary Tournament" at Wembley in mid-April (3 days after the 5-0 Forest game), and John Barnes received a groin injury and missed the next two league games (and then scored a 30-yard free-kick in his first game back).
Now As a arsenal fan seeing Liverpool dominate in the 1980' s was difficult at times yes Liverpool dominated in the 1970's to but cant remember so much however Liverpool played quite brilliant football particularly during this season. Seeing Arsenal win there first title in 18 years On 26th of May 1989 at Anfield i was so happy and that was a brilliant title race the only time in league history which with division one and premier league is 121 seasons combined did that go down to the team with the most goals win the league. Since that time Liverpool have been my 2nd team and i felt sorry that they had never won the premier league after 4 times runners up 5 times 3rd and 7 times in 4th place in the premier league but finally after 30 years there going do it and deserve it despite whats going on with the corona virus and ill be so happy for them
Thanks Richard. To listen to 'experts' these days, they'd have you believe 'Citech' v QPR /Man u was the geatest ever league ending in 2012. What a great upload. I remember this being the best season for me as a LFC fan. It still is the best. I was 13 years old. Remember a massive change in attack in Summer 1987 with Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge clicking for the first time. We were beating teams convincingly. We should have done the double that season. Only if we had Europe that season, I’m sure we would have won the European Cup in 1989.

One of the greatest teams this country has seen. As an Arsenal fan we looked at Liverpool as thr benchmark to achieve success. This 87/88 Liverpool team were flawless. No one could get near them.
Beardsley’s disallowed goal in the cup final is often forgotten but one of the most shocking decisions of all time. To pull him back after HE was being fouled and give the free kick to Liverpool.
Yes, a poor refereeing decision for sure, but I always think the ref made amends with the second half penalty award after the Wimbledon defender got the ball cleanly.

Labour of love - very impressive. From a United fan. This was a good season for us but that Liverpool team was so far ahead of everyone else it was a one-horse race. Do you know if any footage exists for some of the games (e.g. 34:53)? I think pretty much every first division game was recorded by this time but maybe there were still a few that weren't.
Thanks, I appreciate that. It took a lot of work, but hopefully it was worth it. As far as I know there were still games that season with no cameras. ITV's new TV deal the following season meant there were cameras at every game, but up to 87/88 it was patchy coverage dependent on the games TV companies decided to send cameras to, plus any club recordings (seemingly almost non-existent in Liverpool's case, sadly).
@@DaveWallerLFC we were lucky at United that we got a season review video every season starting in 1985/86. Club recording and only our goals for the first couple of seasons but it was amazing at the time!! I got my first season review video in the United club shop on the forecourt at the first home game of the 1986/87 season, maybe a bit later, 2nd or 3rd home game.
Ah when football was a proper sport played by real men. That season was extraordinary. I’ll never forget being at Anfield for the QPR demolition and the brilliant wins vs Everton and Arsenal. Great times.
Is this seasons team the best since the side of 88? Both certainly had an amazing attack. This squad still hasn't won a league title, but some of the men of the 1988 side didn't get the chance to win the European cup, which hopefully the boys of 2019 bring home on Saturday. COME ON YOU FUCKIN REDS!!!
This is a video I made. The official video for this season was called The Mighty Reds (th-cam.com/video/qxwYcid_uSM/w-d-xo.html) and had the full 90 minutes of the 5-0 against Nottingham Forest. I made this to include highlights from all the games where footage is available. The soundtrack of this video, taken from the BBC Official History of Liverpool from 1987 (th-cam.com/video/u4LZ3KSav9U/w-d-xo.html), is "Atmosphere" by Gaynor and Anthony Sadler. The video with a soundtrack by the Christians is Team of the Decade (th-cam.com/video/TvYLKiZm40U/w-d-xo.html).
Hi Dave...Brilliant upload. Are you aware of any live footage around from the home game vs Oxford that season (first game at Anfield)..??? Can't find any anywhere. Ta.
Hi Ivor. Thanks for your comment. This video has all the footage I have in terms in goals from that season. As far as I know, there were no cameras at the Oxford game or a number of other home games in 1987/88 which is a real shame.
No you don't. I made this video in 2019. I guess you're thinking of The Mighty Reds video that had the full 90 mins of the 5-0 v Forest and goals from some other games. This is highlights of every game for which I've been able to find footage.
@@DaveWallerLFC Yes I realized this after I posted. You basically ripped of multiple recordings of LFC footage, edited it, then posted it. It’s not even watchable. Sorry.
@@DaveWallerLFC Purely on how good I think they are as individuals or as a collective team. Very good obviously but I feel modern fans have no idea just how good former teams were. Same applies to my club but take Neal, Hughes, Hansen, Ray Kennedy, McDermott (some player)....... For me they are untouchable (edit, certainly in relation to Klopps team) Not a slight on the recent team but even some of the bigger names just are not in the 70s teams' class.
It's almost impossible to compare teams of different eras as the game has changed so much, but the best Klopp players stand comparison to anything that's gone before, in my view. And as a team they were statistically better in terms of points, but maybe that's just because the league is so much more uneven now, with the best teams being so much better than the rest.
It's taken from the BBC official history video which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/u4LZ3KSav9U/w-d-xo.html I've never been able to find out what the music is called or who wrote it.

John Barnes, wow. What a player he was. YNWA
Amazing reds. Liverpool always ❤️
peter beardsley was my favourite player until he went to everton
This Liverpool team was so good that the 1987/88 goal of the season competition was all Liverpool goals!
If it wasn't for the ban, another European cup was surely on the cards..
The reds that never got to be kings of Europe
What an amazing team,Brazil (of old)in red shirts.Amen
What was the precise gesture Aldridge gave the Old Trafford crowd after his goal?
They we're the world's top team that season, no doubt at all.
thats a one good collection bro
Ah when football was a proper sport played by real men. That season was extraordinary. I’ll never forget being at Anfield for the QPR demolition and the brilliant wins vs Everton and Arsenal. Great times.
Always wanted to know who did this music, originally on the vhs history of LCF.
It's called "Vision"; it was written by Gaynor and Anthony Sadler and comes from the Atmosphere music library
@@DaveWallerLFC Thank you Dave, much appreciated
What a team
Is this seasons team the best since the side of 88? Both certainly had an amazing attack. This squad still hasn't won a league title, but some of the men of the 1988 side didn't get the chance to win the European cup, which hopefully the boys of 2019 bring home on Saturday. COME ON YOU FUCKIN REDS!!!
I still believe this was the best Liverpool team 87/88
Got this on VHS the offical season review. Sure the soundtrack was the christians
Was Nicol a defender or a striker lol.. Great times
nicol was what milner is for the current LFC team...
Barnes and Beardsley were pure class
Hi Dave...Brilliant upload. Are you aware of any live footage around from the home game vs Oxford that season (first game at Anfield)..??? Can't find any anywhere. Ta.
Hi Ivor. Thanks for your comment. This video has all the footage I have in terms in goals from that season. As far as I know, there were no cameras at the Oxford game or a number of other home games in 1987/88 which is a real shame.
@@DaveWallerLFC OK cheers mate. Been lookin around & that seem to be the case. Some great goals lost there.
Salah, Firmino, Mane or Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley? 🤔
I have this on VHS.
Sorry.
Awesome
40 lge games, 90 points. 👍
10:38 full back Chris Nicol?? Steve mate!!
This was the best team ever in this season that u will ever see in England. Man City of today are very close tho, Leeds 68/69 in 3rd spot
Beardsley & Barnes ❤❤
What is the song at the start?
"Vision" by Gaynor and Anthony Sadler
@@DaveWallerLFC cheers mate
Man Utd fan.
Other than possibly the team of the late 70s this is the best Liverpool team.
Team under Klopp not even close.
On what basis is Klopp's team not even close? Winning every week is normally a reasonable measure of a good team.
@@DaveWallerLFC
Purely on how good I think they are as individuals or as a collective team.
Very good obviously but I feel modern fans have no idea just how good former teams were.
Same applies to my club but take Neal, Hughes, Hansen, Ray Kennedy, McDermott (some player).......
For me they are untouchable (edit, certainly in relation to Klopps team)
Not a slight on the recent team but even some of the bigger names just are not in the 70s teams' class.
Can remember the commentary off by heart from 30+ years ago, is that normal?
Yes
I wanna know that's intro soundtrack???
It's taken from the BBC official history video which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/u4LZ3KSav9U/w-d-xo.html I've never been able to find out what the music is called or who wrote it.
@@DaveWallerLFC it's actually an excerpt from the 1986 World Cup official film soundtrack by Rick Wakeman, I recognised it quickly because I have that on Video th-cam.com/video/QEGlbyGOT2k/w-d-xo.html
1:29:10 -
"100% record - 11 out of 11, I think, this season."
"Touch wood."
...
"I think there might be a bottle of champagne waiting for you in the dressing room."
"I don't drink champagne ... I'd rather have a pint of lager."
Beardsley was amazing
10:37 Who the hell's "Chris Nichol?" Lol.
❤️
You have 2 videos off that season
There was a BBC video called The Mighty Reds released with the full 90 minutes of the Forest 5-0 game, and goals from a few other games. This is my favourite season, so I thought it deserved a proper season review video with all the available goals, so I made this.
@@DaveWallerLFC thanks mate im loving your channel
900k for Jon Barnes is robbery given francis went for a million many years earlier

What
This year was the best year for Steve Nicol. He was really great.
They should have kept John Aldridge as Well as Rush when he can back!!
