This is one of the few times an entire league of fans can come together and say we are all sad to see a player leave the game. Thank you Bergy - Avs fan.
As a habs fan who is obligated to hate the bruins, this still saddens me as it sort of signifies the end of an era. And Bergerons from Quebec so this still makes me quite emotional
Favorite Bergeron moment - I was present at the final home game of the 21-22 season. My first ever live hockey game. I flew across the country from Washington State to Boston to see the B's play. In that game, not only did we annihilate the Sabres, but Bergeron scored a hat trick to top it off. Before the game, I jokingly told my friend I went with if he scored a hatty while I was there, I'd buy every bit of merch I could because Bergeron was my favorite player and he better make my first game one to remember. I ended up buying a Bergeron jersey, a B's hat and several other things. 10/10 - my best hockey memory to date, thanks to Bergeron. Gonna miss that man
Saw the Bs play the Kraken in Seattle this last February and I had a feeling it would be the last time I would get to see him play. He scored a goal. I was so happy that I got to see that one last time. I grew up on the east coast watching him play at TD Garden.
Dude started his NHL career when I was still in Elementary school. Hard to believe he played a whopping 19 seasons in the most grueling tough sports league's around. Huge Kudos to him and his illustrious career!
@scottstenlund4431 A player must be retired from any level of pro hockey for three years before they get in. Jagr last played in the NHL in 2018 for example but he keeps suiting up for the team he owns and pushing back his induction. Also it's entirely false to say the hockey hall of fame is only about the NHL -- there are plenty of players in the hockey hall of fame who never played in an NHL game and accomplishments in international hockey are considered on a player's resume
@scottstenlund4431 Out of of the 293 players in the hall there are nine women, Tretiak, Kharlamov, Baker, Roberts, and Taylor who never played in the NHL. Maybe even more I don't know about, I didn't look exhaustively. So that's nearly 5% of membership. Congratulations on doubling down with your ignorance
@scottstenlund4431 14 players who have never played a second in the NHL out of 293 inductees is at least 4.7%. Sorry you don't understand simple math. And with women being inducted now the % of non-NHL players in the hall will probably being going up ever so slightly
The league just got a little less interesting today. Thank you for everything Bergeron, you were an incredible player, class act, and just an incredible ambassador for the sport. - A Rangers fan
Even as a Leafs fan, I can't hate Patrice Bergeron. He was a genuine leader, class act, and talented player. Then the fact he stayed with one team his entire career, honestly maybe a dozen players per generation can say they do that and has seemingly become lower a number since. Assuming they finish out their contracts, I can only think of Pittsburgh's big three, Ovi, and that's about it in recent years to have such longevity while only playing for one team. Bergeron, enjoy your retirement you may have cause pain as an opponent, you have earned all the respect in the world and I will feel great joy when you're inducted in the Hall of Fame in a few years.
I still can't believe it days later now. This man was my idol, my inspiration. My favorite hockey player of all time. Every time I went on the ice I wanted to be like him. It's not gonna feel right going to Bruins games without him on the ice. This man was the definition of a Bruin and was the heart and soul of this team for the past 10+ years. I think the team is in good hands with Marchy, McAvoy, and Pasta but this is a big blow for the team and the organization. First ballot Hall-of-Famer, number in the rafters, statue outside the Garden. Boston and hockey legend
😭 It was a very sad day in Boston... The longest tenured Boston athlete hung up the skates after 2 decades of being the greatest role model possible for 2 entire generations of New England kids. Bergy is one of the best humans on this planet and I am going to miss seeing him in the Black and Gold but, we couldn't have asked anything more from him. He gave us everything he could for 2 decades, I just wished it would have ended on better terms.
I'm a bruins fan so I have a lot of moments that can be listed as favorites. But my absolute top has to be game 7 in 2013. I was at the garden with my dad, still the one and only game I've ever been to in Boston (I live a little south of Toronto) and that game tying goal to make it 4-4 was electric. Bergy has been and always will be my all time favourite player. Tough to see him go but thanks for the memories 37❤️
I'm a life long Bruins fan and I was so bummed and devastated yesterday when I saw he'd retired!! It's guna be so weird to not have him playing anymore!? I was really hoping he'd come back for 1 final farewell year so he could be sent out in a better way than how last season ended!? I really wanted to see him for a 20th season..especially since it's guna be the Centennial Season for the Bruins this coming season!!? It's the end of an era...Bergeron has been an unbelievable player and an even better human being!? He's just been the best on and off the ice! He embodies everything it means to be a Bruin!?19 seasons all with the Bruins! A Stanley Cup in 2011, should've had 1 or 2 more if it weren't for bad luck!? And he owns the record for most Selke trophy wins with 6! They should rename or add his name to name of that trophy!? His #37 will definitely be retired and I'd bet probably nobody else wears that # for Bruins until it gets retired!? Nobody should ever wear that # for Bruins again really!? After 19 seasons...an entire career with Bruins that number belongs to him!? On a way Bergeron is Definitely 1 of the Ultimate Bruins all time! Him and Bourque have the 2 longest careers with Bruins! It was too bad Bourque didn't spend his entire career with Bruins but I can't blame him cuz he wanted to win the Cup and ge deserved to win the Cup and I was stoked to see him finally lift it...I just wish he'd been able to do it with Bruins instead of Colorado but it was still great to see him with the Cup regardless of what jersey he had on!? I actually have a picture of Bourque with the Cup after Colorado won it in 2001!? It's too bad other Big Bruins stars like Neely and Orr had their careers cut short from injuries!? Imagine if they both could've had long careers with Bruins!? It sucked Neely never won the Cup as a player with Bruins but it was great to see him get to lift the Cup when the 2011 Bruins won the Cup!? Bergeron is like the only one of the Bruins big stars that's retired that's had a long career and spent his entire career with the Bruins!? It's guna be so strange after 19 seasons to not see him playing anymore!? He definitely will be greatly missed....he already is cuz I know like me a lot of Bruins fans r seriously bummed that he retired!? I know I was really bummed yesterday morning when I saw it and it was just like 20 min after story came out about it!? Hes an absolute Bruins Legend!!! We're guna miss u Bergy!
They’re gonna have to rename it the Bergeron trophy now. I’m not a bruins fan but I know I’m gonna miss him very much. He really was the definition of captain and I’m so glad he got to wear the C
Huge applaud to Bergeron and his legacy. One of the greatest competitors in the history of the game and skills and IQ even higher. As a Caps fan I have watched many games with this legend and he has always been amazing. Best wishes to him and his family!
Congratulations Patrice Bergeron and good luck with any future endeavors . Thank you for being the player you were. To say you were a class individual would be the understatement of all time. These are heartfelt sentiments from a Habs fan.
Grew up playing hockey in New England. Every kid wanted to be Patrice, watching his old videos still beings back that feeling of when I first fell in love with hockey. Been watching him since I was 7, I’m almost 27 now. Proud to have called him our captain. Nothing but love and respect can’t wait to see his Jersey in the rafters.
I’m a bruins fan and it is SO HARD to see him go🥺 him and pasta were probably my favorite players in the league. In my opinion the most loveable player oat. I’ll miss him
Through the years, the bruins were hated. But no one could hate Bergeron. It's sad to see, I have only watched one season of the NHL go by and one of the best if not the best well rounded center retires. He deserves the award to be named after him because no one will forget him.
Leafs fan here he was a pain in the ass for us because of his talent and perseverance. It's the end of an era. I hope where ever life takes him he does well.
I’m 20 years old and from the Boston area. I grew up watching Patrice Bergeron, I idolized him and tried to mirror his play style. Absolutely helped foster my love for the game, he’s the Tom Brady of hockey for me
Aussie kraken fan here, I got to see the B's play the ducks once in Anaheim (2014) on a trip Stateside and it was such a great game. Will forever remember that night. Congrats Bergy
Being from Pittsburgh, you'd think I would be glad to see this legend retire. But I'm not. He brought a quality to the game few players can. I will miss watching him dominate the games. Enjoy your retirement Bergie, you've earned it.
After taking a few well earned years to himself, I would not be surprised to see him back with the Bruins organization in some capacity, perhaps even a coaching role.
Fun Fact : up until 2005 when teams lost a player to free agency they would receive a compensationary pick, when the Bruins lost Bill Geurin, they received a second round pick, that's second turned out to be number 45th overall, Patrice Bergeron
What a unfortunate day in hockey, woke up today to see this and thought it was a dream lol. Even though i’m a Devils fan and really do hate Boston, it’s really sad to see such a legendary player go.
The 2000's/2010's era of behemoths are slowly hanging them up and its just weird. Chara not playing anymore still feels weird and now Bergeron calling it and the fact both Crosby and Ovi are in there late 30's and most likely only have a couple years left in the tank not to mention Toews basically saying he's done. It just feels odd that if you go back ten years the faces of the league are done or about to be.
To me this is one of multiple changes that have transpired and will in the future for the entire NHL really, because the nhl is definitely going through a "change of eras" that will become clearer as we move further down the road so to speak.

I could see it going either way, he’ll either be a coach or just completely retire. I could also see him in a front office but I think they said something about how involved with the coaching staff he was.
Are you going to make a video on Krejci's retirement? I would have assumed since you made this video you were going to make one on Krejci but you made other videos since the announcement, just thought that was kind of curious...
Not a Bruins fan, but it’s tough to see him go.
Same
I’m 21 and I don’t even know the bruins without him. Tough

Yeah
@@McMoldsame he's been there for so long

What a player. 1st ballot HOF all the way
I doubt Datsyuk was elligible, he played pro in Russia until 2021, doesn’t it take a specific number of years before they can be inducted ?

Hi Leafs fan. Capitals fan here hoping their somewhat large three of Ovi Backstrom and Carlson only ever play for DC.
The Sedin twins come to mind as exemplars of class and commitment to a team combined with a very long period of sustained excellence as well
Im going with Lidström!

This guy is one of the best (if not the best) two way centres to ever play the game. Not much more you can say.

The guy I've had the most respect for in the league since Datsyuk left the NHL
As a Habs fan, it has always hurt me to see him in black and yellow. Such a statesman.
Hey Eck,
Hope you and your family are doing ok. The flooding in Nova Scotia looks horrible. Stay safe✌️
Coach Bergeron has a nice ring to it
BERGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST!!!!!! my favourite Bruin! Scoring the winner in game 7 of the 2011 Stanley cup finals is my favourite moment.
Hope your are safe and dry. Prayers go out to Halifaxers and Moosehead fans!
My favorite moment is this one. He has retired. Great player.

keep up the great vids Eck!
Fav Bergeron moment was 2013 round 1 game 7 tying and winning goal

It's the 'black and gold', also knowledge of his retire became somewhat official in Boston a couple of weeks ago when he put his home up for sale.

Bro was the definition of a class act, which is funnily enough not often associated with Boston. Congrats to a wonderful career Patrice
this is tough for being a bruins fan for 10 years
NHL Voters in shambles now they have to actually vote differently in the Selke
I can’t believe also
Time to rename the Selke
Sad they didn't get through the Panthers after being up 3-1 this year. This was supposed to be their year and one last shot for the cup.
Farewell sir.
I hope he becomes a bruins assistant coach!
Unbelievable that bergy is gone from the NHL now as a player. Generational talent!!! I’m a pens fan by the way.
Can we start a pool to see how long until they re-name the Selke trophy after him?
Bruins will offer him an office spot for sure. I don't think he's done in Boston
