    I bought the same bike around 2016, its a super touring bike, it will still be going when im gone, for sure. I cycled 3350 miles thro northern Europe/Scandinavia on it, bombproof.

    Hey….thanks for the review. I have a 26 inch LHT. Its a great bike that I have absolutely no issues with. I switched over to using the shifters in friction mode a while back (like some 10 speeds I had, back in the day) and love it. I have some Ortlieb rear panniers, a Topeak rear rack with the trunk bag too. The same computer, a Brooks B17…usb chargeable front and rear lights…couple of bottle holders, I don’t use the one on the underside. Added Raceface Chester pedals too. Being a football player size guy I am glad to have a bike that supports me and any cargo well. Damn comfortable bike too. Thanks again. 👍

    Great Video ! I Just found and purchased a new LHT frame that I found in a small town bike shop here in Ontario. I am looking forward to building it up over the next few months.

    Great review! I have a 2014 700c LHT and I love it to bits. I've probably done in excess of 12,000 miles on it now and it's been absolutely faultless. I bought it originally to ride the TransAmerica in 2014 and then returned to the States in 2019 to ride the Southern Tier. The Surly is so comfortable over long distances - and the more weight you add to it, the more stable it seems to be. What has always amazed me is how well balanced the bike is - you can put a loaded pannier on any one of the quarters and it will still ride straight, with no pulling or instability. I've used Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres since day one and I've never had a puncture (although I agree the pump you have is great). I have added a dyno-hub on the front wheel which has been very useful. The Surly is so comfortable that even when not touring it is always my go-to bike, whether I'm popping down the shops or overnight camping. The only downside I've noticed is that it is beginning to develop a few spots of rust in some places so I'm considering having the frame shot-blasted and re-painted in the next year, which should give me at least another ten years of trouble-free cycling. One very quick question - what make is your swan-neck seat-posts? I've always found myself sitting a little too far back on the saddle and that post would solve the problem perfectly. Thanks again for the review of a wonderful bike! Paul, UK

      The seatpost was stock. It's a Kalloy SP-248D offset.

      Just so you know Bush and Muller make a good mirror and you won't have to jury rig it. My method works fine, but had I known of their bike mirror I might have bought that instead.

    I just bought a used LHT 2019 in near perfect shape, I do like it and it rides better with paniers and weight on it.

    Loved the review, thank you! I have had my 54 LHT, since 2009. But as I got older, my back hurt more after rides, so last fall I installed a Surly Truck Stop Handlebar. I also upgraded the brakes from cantilevers to v-brakes, doing the work myself, except for the handlebar wrap, which, lacking the skill, I had to have the bike shop complete. The handlebars are right where I want them, like the bike was made for me. Braking is also vastly improved, especially under a load. The only downside was the loss of real estate for lights, bags, and computer. But after some trial and error, and two brackets I cobbled up from some aluminum tubing & scrap, I got everything to fit. No more sore back, and I have never had a more comfortable ride, even on my titanium Gravel bike or my Recumbent. If you are considering it, get the Surly Truck Stop Handlebars. They are an excellent investment in greater comfort on trips, and longer rides.

      Thanks for the comments. I am strongly considering the Truck Stop bars to get me in a more upright position as well. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer this spring and I think it will help post surgery or radiation therapy (haven't decided yet) to be more upright. I am hoping I can continue to use my Brooks B17. At my age I no longer care about aerodynamics and just want to be comfortable on my bike. I hope it will improve wrist and hand comfort as well.

    I inherited the same bike... black LHT. It's a wonderful bike to ride. The brakes are different. All of the painted-on 'stickers' except the ones on the front forks came off... oddly. I have a different Brooks saddle. I also have a big mirror mounted the same way.

    Hi….Thanks for the great review. I really like the way you mounted the mirror using the “McGiver” approach. Can you provide a bit more detail on the modification process? Did you need to cut or add to any of the mirror pieces? In particular, how did you attach the mirror “stem” to the reflector part that goes onto the handlebar? Thank you!

    • @yooperventures2830
      @yooperventures2830  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Glad you liked the review. The mirror is made by Mirrycle. It's intended to be attached in the bar end, but obviously can't due to the shifters. It has two elbows that are pivot points. I removed the lower portion of the mirror stem that includes the section that goes into the bar end. I attached the remainder of the mirror stem to the handlebar using a seatpost reflector clamp. I have the stock drop bars and I find it works best right at the bar end position.

      Quick Stop Bike Shop in Marquette. They didn't have a trucker in stock, but they ordered it. At the time they sold Surly bikes. They mostly sell Kona and Trek now.

    What is the replacement for the LHT?

    • @yooperventures2830
      @yooperventures2830  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since Surly discontinued the LHT in favor of the disc brake model there is no rim brake model anymore. The new disk trucker model is quite different from older models as well. In reality it has not been replaced. It has been discontinued.
