  • This video contains all the basic information a first time builder would need to know to assemble there own simple box mod.
    I have used my box mod designs down to .18 ohm coils with my sony vtc5 batterys with nothing but success.
    In the end it all comes down to the quality of components you select and your level of craftsmanship when assembling.

    To the people that say this is not a "Mechanical" box mod. Well sorry to break it to you but this IS a Mechanical mod... just because there is a couple of wires in the power path, does not affect the fact that there is no digital electronic devices in the power path. Just because some "mechanical MODS" use the housing as the main ground does not take away this being a mechanical mod. Chassis ground is still a form of connection, just like a wire. Your just using the housing to carry the load as oppose to using wires. If you added a MOSFET in line to reduce the amp load going through the switch you then change its definition according to popular belief. Yet a MOSFET is nothing more then a relay (be it a solid state relay non the less) so to my understanding this still does not make it digital. Adding a solid state device in to a box mod is nothing more then good design and adds a bit of safety. But then again not a true "fully mechanical" mod. Ah whatever, but again the mod he is showing in this vid is fully mechanical and has nothing in the power path other then a single switch. The LED is only paralleled and has not effect on the way the power is delivered.

      @CallOZooty69 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MasterMech77 You are mistaken, it is neither.
      A Mechanical mod, as the word 'mechanical' implies, would suggest that not a single wire was used to complete the circuit.. A simple Google search will justify this statement.
      This is an Analogue Mod. Evident through lack of digital circuitry, while there are still wires and components connected within the device. Again, Google will confirm this.
      Just because there isn't a digital circuit board, doesn't mean to say you cannot achieve the same effect though analogue components. He even uses an LED and switch, both are analogue components.
      For this to be mechanical, he would have had to do away with all of those things;
      favouring no wires, no components, and a mechanical switch.

    • @CallOZooty69
      @CallOZooty69 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe: we started with mechanical circuits and devices; we then found analogue to be smaller and more manageable representations of their mechanical counterparts. Later we discovered how to shrink these analogue components down even further; to a point that a device which would have once occupied a small room, now fits into the palm of your hand.
      Just look up a 'mechanical computer'.

      〈insert profile name here〉
      Well by your definition anything with a switch is no longer mechanical.... hum

    • @B1GROCK75
      @B1GROCK75 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MasterMech77 this is, in no way a mechanical box mod. Mechanical mods use no wires, such as a cherry bomber, noisy cricket, snowman, incubus...a mechanical mod has a solid switch that makes contact with the 510/battery.... this is just an unregulated box mod,

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Randy Steele Sorry to say but Cherry bomber uses the housing as the ground. The wood and plastic Cherry Bombers use a short bit of wire to connect the 510 connection to the negative side of the batteries. The noisy Cricket uses a bridging plate (wire) that is insulated from the housing to connect the batteries in series. The Snowman uses a spring (which is nothing more then stiff wire wrapped in to a coil, so there is wires to make that mod) loaded base plate.
      This Box Mod is as mechanical and a mechanical only. Unregulated mod would have a transistor in there to prevent the fire button from having to handle to full load from the batteries. That and a couple of micro fuses.
      Here is a link to what an Unregulated Box Mod really is:

    have your considered runing a MOSFET with you switches? wiring up a N channel Mosfet will alow you to run any switch and it takes the excess amps and volts and dump them. I built 4 boxs with this setup and they are running strong for 6 months sub ohm vaping

      Good news for you Harley I will be uploading a Part 2 in about a week showing a dual 18650 build wired in parallel.
      If you need to know now parallel would be hooking the positive to the positive and negative to negative of each battery then wiring normally like I did in the video.
      As for the switch I have seen them on Amazon & Ebay, Cole Hersee 9095
      www.amazon.com/Cole-Hersee-9095-Momentary-Push-Button/dp/B001FQLQQA
      Lastly about the enclosures Hammonds website is great because they list every enclosure and have 3D drawings of them with all the dimensions so you can measure you components and pick out the box that will fit everything.

    wow thank you I appriciate you doing such a detailed video, but it looks like after I order all those parts it would be more expensive then a reg mahine made mech mod ? true or flse ?

    • @Handi75
      @Handi75 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. If you make the box out of something else besides the Machined Aluminum Boxes then you will Omit the cost of a Machined Box, for example, if you make your own from Wood, No cost there if you got the wood for free. Most box mods I've seen start out at around $65 on up. So, with the Cheapness of the 510 connector and other parts, you should have well under that. Most expensive part will be your PCB Controller board for Varable Voltage, Puff counters etc. Which then in return will Jack up the Price.

    What is pre tining? I think thats what i was missing when i go to solder. The solder would never stick. is it grinding down or polishing it?

    • @A2ZVaping
      @A2ZVaping  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pre-tinning is simply applying solder to each part before combining them. As opposed to sticking both pieces together and pouring the solder over them to combine them. Instead you take two pieces that you cover in solder individually and melt them together.
      If your solder is not sticking one of these is likely the cause:
      Cheap/weak soldering iron
      Not using 60/40 rosin-core solder (smallest diameter you can get; I use .032")
      Dirty wire or connection (clean with wire brush or apply flux)

    This was brilliant , I wish I had this talent or even half your skill , unfortunately I don’t , which brings me to a question for you , I have an uwell numbchuck 2 and another mod that holds 3 batteries which I can’t remember the make , now our laws in Australia ban us from buying vapes or anything to do with vaping , I got worried that the mod I’m using now will break , trouble is the two I’ve mentioned haven’t been used for over 3-5 years and now have zero power when I put batteries in them , so if you or anyone else has any suggestions of who I could bring these two mods to so I can have them repaired I’d be so grateful, as I don’t have a clue who fixes this sort of thing apart from clever guys like a2z , unfortunately he isn’t in Australia .

    • @A2ZVaping
      @A2ZVaping  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the fewer connection points the better. For example the battery would be connected to the battery holder, the battery holder is connected to a wire, the wire is connected to the case, the case is connected to the atomizer.
      if you solder the battery holder to a wire then that wire to the atomizer, you have fewer connection points and a lower voltage drop.

      Michael Leix I have made a bunch of BOX MODS, using all kinds of different buttons, battery sleds, 510 connectors. It depends on where and how much you can get your parts. I think the least I have spent was about 20 bucks (that was for a single battery wood box mod that I made from a small rectangular puzzle box) then about 140 for a full out dual battery DNA type box mode with on board digital display and USB battery charging.

    quick question. Would a 12V 10A push button be okay??

      A 12v 10a switch would work in any build but it's a bit overkill.

    I have a question, how do you solder/wire a button switch that has a built in led?

    • @A2ZVaping
      @A2ZVaping  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to link the positive input for the led to the output of the switch, then run a ground line from the LED ground to your battery box. You can see an example on another mod I did here: imageshack.com/a/img539/6969/oWFZdq.jpg

      Also test your button first with a 3.7v power source, some have a built in resistor that you have to remove to get it to run off of 3.7v
      So far I have had to do this in a Blue led button. A green by the same maker did not require this.

      Yami Diaz Yes actually I plan on ordering a new box next week to make a dual battery 18650 w/ LED button. I will take a quick video to show the differences in the setups.

    Is it absolutely necessary to use the resistor?

    What are the benefits of dual batteries compared to one?

    • @A2ZVaping
      @A2ZVaping  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doubles the mAh. So basically vape for twice as long without charging.

      A2Z Vaping and how would one go about wiring both batteries to the same button? just double wire it to the same solder point?

      18650 is the most common batt used.
      Before you build check out some of the safety vids on batteries.
      Lots of cheep and potentially dangerous batteries out there.
      Happy building.

      Piolo Ace De Leon you are trying to pull way too much power for low draon batyeriws. you need specific high drain 18650 sized batteries or 26650. there are a few others but those are by far the most common.

    All I can say is, HOT GLUE.
    Hot glue is a godsend when it comes to diy projects. JB brand adhesives and menders which is more costly when working with small elecetroics.

    How much for a plastic version of this box mod

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ron Bush The aluminum and plastic boxes all cost about the same (at least on amazon they do) so I personally use a ABS or Polycarbonate box material. Less chances of power to ground shorts in a plastic box!
