The battery's will last the same if you build them to put the same watts out? The only difference I find is you can build much lower with parallel. To get the same wattage divide the resistance of your coil on your series mod by 4 and that number would be the build you would do for the same wattage on a parallel build. 0.28ohm divided by 4 = 0.07ohm for Example with 30a continuous discharge rated battery's fully charged: Series: 2x30a 18650 4.2v = 8.4v 30a limit, so your lowest build limit would be 0.28ohm, power would be 252w with full batt current is on 30a limit Parallel: 2x30a 18650 4.2v = 4.2v 60a limit, so your lowest build limit would be 0.07ohm, power would be 252w with full batt current is on 60a limit. There are other factors to consider so for beginners do your research before attempting to build. Lots of calculators on Google etc you just need enough knowledge to know what to enter into the calculators.

ok you got a big thing wrong to push 500 Watt's in your series box at 8.4 volts at .14 ohms at 500 watts its amp load would be at 59.1 amps which there's not a 18650 that can handle that amp load and would vent in no time at that load

Dude, I run .16ohm on series and yeah, it's hot and has to have a LOT of air flow but it in no way catches on fire. You keep it juiced, air flow wide open, hit fast and hard and be ready for the heat.
no, parallel is better for clouds, one thing he didnt explain is that in parallel you get twice the amperage, so on a sony vtc4 that is 30 amps continuous, with two of them in parallel, you can get 60 amps continuous, allowing you to build below 0.1 ohms, with the right rda with tons of airflow youll whip any series box because its easier to find a build you can widthstand in a parallel box.

no they do not.
Brian Hults yes they do in parallel , that's why people do triple series, they get triple the amps and mah...... but dual mosfet is best for that
