I used to know a guy from Yorkshire who settled in London and used to be friends with the singer whose life ended so young. The '70s were a very bleak, dark time for many of us young people in the US and the UK. This group did some outstanding recordings and endured much hardship. The guy from Yorkshire slipped farther & farther into mental illness & after about a decade, he vanished. Thanks so much for posting this. Peel was so supportive. Greetings from France.
There are other versions of this video out there but the BBC version is fantastic. The drumming a lone is so much tighter and aggressive. Best version in my opinion.
one of my favourite songs.....deeply sad music and lyrics stephen morris is certainly one of the finest drummers of all time, he plays the drums with full energy right from the beginning of the song till the end
the greatest band ever in my eyes. Some of the most emotional lyrics ever written. For all those who are yet to discover Joy Division Love will tear us apart is just the start of the journey,
One of the most truthful, intelligent and heartbreaking songs ever written about a relationship on the verge of collapse...and by my favourite band of all-time...
Joy Division were so before their time! Even today I still cry when I hear Ian Curtis's voice. I wish he had got help. I can't help but think if Ian hadn't taken his own life what he and Joy Division would sound like today. Their sound was so unique and they set the standard......if it wasn't for them their would be no Killers, Snow Patrol, or Cold Play...all these groups admit that Joy Division influenced their music.
The fact that Ian Curtis could write such vivid poetry in that small amount of time, and that the music still holds up TODAY, just shows his genius. R.I.P, my man..
Excellent..I was too busy wiv me northern to appreciate them fully at the time..watched 'Control" again recently with the missus..she's hooked...she'd never heard of em..been from the philippines..new fan..msjolani chanel on here

im 15 and my dad introduced me to joy division 2 or 3 years ago because two of my favorite bands are editors & interpol. But joy division are one of the best things my ears have ever heard!
There was a BBC strike on when this hit No. 1 in 1980 and very few got to see it at it's peak in May 1980. But was epic anyway and the single sold massive. Forever
this song reminds me of my girl...it reminds me of how beautiful she is,her smile, and also when the sun shines on her its like heaven on earth in ur mind!
This is one of my all time favourite songs. One of the best cover versions I've heard recently on TH-cam is by a new band called Centre Excuse, well worth checking it out. They've done a bloody good job!
"Why is the bedroom so cold? /
You've turned away on your side /
Is my timing that flawed? /
Our respect runs so dry"
The drumming on some of their songs are unique. Well done Stephen.
Morris is extraordinary
Would it be blasphemous if I said I prefer this version over the album version?
+ZachTalksMusic 94 No, because there is no album version, it was only released as a single.
+David B I guess I should correct myself: *Studio version
+ZachTalksMusic 94 No it would not, it would be good because this is an excellent version.
+ZachTalksMusic 94 It's only blasphemous if you don't like the song.
+ZachTalksMusic 94 Even one or two of the band members preferred this version

what was the Yorkshire man's name? Yes I am 11 years too late.

Best version of the song, hands down.
Yes it really is, just gives the song a completely different identity
This is the best version of them all.
yep it is
one of my favourite songs.....deeply sad music and lyrics
stephen morris is certainly one of the finest drummers of all time, he plays the drums with full energy right from the beginning of the song till the end
Stephen Morris is really one of the top 5 drummers all times!
Ian Curtis was a genius. Those lyrics are on an almost poetic level,l way beyond most other songwriters.
the greatest band ever in my eyes. Some of the most emotional lyrics ever written.
For all those who are yet to discover Joy Division Love will tear us apart is just the start of the journey,

@@SwagMaster824 Take on me is a really good song but this is in another league, plus the influence Joy Division had on music is immeasurable.
Drums are so fucking great!

Words cannot describe how much i love this song.
The melody in this song is recognized by most humans as the sound implicit in the universe
It's nice too know young people have taken a liking too such an amazing piece of music. The comment box was created for everyone's opinions.
This video is fantastic!
ovo je najbolja pjesma ikad, najboljeg benda ikad, marko hvala ti što si mi rekao za njih!
Sometimes this version just hits different.
Thanks Barry, You really put it into perspective for me. I appreciate that.

the official video is belong to this audio. not the studio version. it's absolutely match with this.
This Video it's amazing... Love it. Congratulations for this.
Ahh, god- blessings. This song breaks my heart every time.
The fact that Ian Curtis could write such vivid poetry in that small amount of time, and that the music still holds up TODAY, just shows his genius. R.I.P, my man..

Ian Curtis 18-05-1980 18-05-2016 36 años
Enzo Sasso no. Your dates are wrong by FAR.
way before its time, excellent to hear it again...
Te amo Ian
Amazing quality! Thanks for posting
best version in my opinion
I was at a concert of this group. Excellent music!
Ian has been a romantic philosopher, he never knew about it, but he lived as a baron of lyrics and died in pain of his passions.
His lyrics were about his struggle in life & his mental illness
i hope the new generation can come up with music as beautiful as this.
stephen morris making me dance like ian
probably the best version i've heard on yt. thanks!
I wonder that Ian put the microphone too close to his mouth, making him sounded like he eating something while singing, the microphone must be tasty
Yeah, I noticed that too, that's why in crappy recordings of Joy Division songs you can barely hear what he's saying.
My favorite song ever. Thank you for posting this version!
x Luci
Featured videos brought me here because i listen to Joy Division every day
im 15 and my dad introduced me to joy division 2 or 3 years ago because two of my favorite bands are editors & interpol. But joy division are one of the best things my ears have ever heard!

This is THE version of the song! Ian Curtis was a genius who will stand the test of time. Joy Division as a unit are just unmatched.
Love this version.. Sooooo damn cool!!
There was a BBC strike on when this hit No. 1 in 1980 and very few got to see it at it's peak in May 1980. But was epic anyway and the single sold massive. Forever

The edition of the video is great, nice work.
