I just got my S5ii about a month ago. I had the FX30, but I've always preferred LUMIX colors over most other brands. When the S5ii started selling on MPB for $1,375, I immediately jumped on it. Trading my FX30 and Sony lenses for the S5ii and the 50mm f1.8 lens. I love what I've captured with the S5ii, and haven't looked back. (I've since added the 24mm f1.8 and the 20-60mm lens is on its way.)
Im more photo than video, the colors on S5II is insane. I have so many Sony bodies and glass that I'd take such an L from switching over completely. The other issue is while Panasonic is very good I think Sony's AF is flawless, especially with the newer AI processor. It's really not fiscally smart to own 2 overlapping systems. One will have to go soon.
Other than full frame 60 fps, I honestly think the S5ii is very very close to being an end-game camera. We are reaching the point where for 99% of people, any new innovations will genuinely not matter. HLG already has sufficient dynamic range for me, I don't even need to use VLOG. I find it funny when many want beyond 10-13 stops of dynamic range without truly asking if we'd ever use 14-16 stops in our workflow. The irony is most extreme pro features, are the least likely to be used in pro settings. Extreme DR is unlikely to be used in a prelit movie, but also unlikely to be useful in a run and gun setting. Punching in is unlikely to ever be done in a pro setting, yet beyond 6k only has that upside of amatuer punch ins, who'd be unlikely to bother with beyond 4k. A bit of a catch 22 w/ use cases. The autofocus is now there. The reliability is amazing w/ the in built fan. I'm excited to see the S1h2 have full sensor read-out 60 fps and perhaps the internal 32 bit float audio from the Gh series.
Did Panasonic just pay a load of TH-camrs to re-promote this camera? Why is my feed suddenly full of people saying how amazing it is all on the same day?
Great video as always man! Will you ever do a video about the Lumix s5 OG? I feel like a lot of people who don’t use autofocus and are looking to save a bit of money would appreciate seeing a comparison between the two.
Fam, there’s something so fulfilling about watching your videos, the top-notch b-roll and the look into the life of someone who does a similar work to what I get to do across the pond myself that’s just so good. I appreciate your time and the work you do to put these together. Keep up the great work! God bless you and yours.
Its kind of sad. I walked in a few shops here on the West Coast in Canada. A lot of them just aren't carrying Panasonic anymore because they don't sell the fastest. I was taking to a clerk in a London Drugs and they told me that they clearanced off all the Lumix camera's and said the Body of the S5IIX went on clearance for $800 Canadian 2 or 3 months ago.. Sad I missed that one.
LD are still carrying Panasonic but only Point n Shoot and Bridge cameras. For some reasons they stopped carrying interchangeable lens camera system. I could have understood discontinuing M43 but full frame? I think these will make a comeback at LD albeit with a new vendor. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to buy G9, G100, S5II plus sooo many of their lenses at throwaway prices.

Mentions lumix for 30 seconds talks about Sony for 14 minutes

This and the S9. But yes, S5II/X are really great cameras, no doubt! S5II is currently at very "low" price which makes it a very good choice.

Great idea!

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch it! 🫶🏻🙌

Great video. Great information. Thanks for what you do for the film making community!
🙌
Just bought mine 2 weeks ago and I’m in love!!
I have yet to see an S5ii in the wild
Actually surprised as they are cheaper than a lot of the compition.
Man, you are smashing it with these videos 🙌
Thanks!
Does the hand belong to Ed Prosser?
4:55 this is why open gate is useful - when you dont know what the final format will be.

I bought one about a month ago. Although AF is definitely not great close up. It is slow to pick up movement.

Loving the use of the osmo 👌🏾
How does the LUMIX color match the Sony FX3,6 and Burano?
Not too far off from the FX3/FX6, but it tends to have a slightly cooler tone.
It’s my man Ed prosser
👏🏻 Hit me up on Instagram or email (in the description) if you're an S5ii user, and I'll give you access to my guide!
Am I late? Want to say the same, but there is already answer 😅
I love this camera... I'm so glad I bought it, just learning to use it
What the..... the video has about everything other than a lumix. I do believe you said SONY . more that Lumix....
Exactly.
Ed Prosser’s hand, 80% sure.
I initially thought it could be Josh Cameron’s, but upon closer inspection, I’m pretty confident with my guess
The person in the video is ED PROSER
Once you accept that even sony's af isn't perfect, Lumix and even Nikon offer more bang for the buck
How was the new U.K. tax effective you as a video company? Better or worse off?
That's Philip Bloom's hand.
Was that Josh’s hand?
7:29 my exact reaction:
AYOOOO! 😦
🔥
That hand MUST belong to Ed Prosser (not sure if it’s weird that I’m super confident about this!)
😂 What it definitely means is you're watching the right stuff on TH-cam 🙌
probably cuz now Lumix s5IIx with 20-60 and 50 mm costs 2100$
Pocket 3 footage looks perfectly great for that purpose!
I think it's David Beckham's beautiful hand.
LUMIX is the Blackmagic for Sony fans
Bought it for 6K open gate
Is the hand of the other creator, Josh Cameron?
❌
I'm guessing it's EdProsser's hand
Josh Cameron's hand for sure lol
Sam Holland!
Or is it Sam?
❌
So your video it’s some BTS where you use Sony cameras 😂😂😂 what’s that got to do with Lumix???
Lumix event in London? sounds exciting.
Ed prosser 😅
Does he even talk about the camera? Can’t deal with the waffle. Like he got paid to put the camera name in the title and forgot to talk about it
sorry, I clicked to watch this video for the S5, not for the FX3 or S9. unfollowing now
Was it Jeffry Epstein’s hand and he’s still alive?
So close, was Diddy!
@ oh heck, don’t drink ANYTHING!
