Brilliant! Loved it thank you! That was some steep looking snow after you put the crampons on! And also loving the drone shots, really cool. Oh and as someone else said, would be great to see how you built that antenna, looks ingenious!
Thanks! Sorry for the delay in replying, had no power for four days due to storms! I'll definitely do a video on the yagi at some point. 👍 73, Fraser MM0EFI
Excellent. Chilled. Love the kit. 2m U.K. DX/rag chewing/contesting both FM/SSB is one of my favourite aspects of our great hobby. Thanks again. Nick M1DDD Derbyshire
Excellent video Fraser and some nice drone footage too. 2m SSB is one of my favourites and would give us a decent chance of a S2S QSO. All the best to you and Mo. 73 Chris M0RSF
@@ryanbeare9806 that's still a good effort. It's a bit easier from a mountain top. I've worked Lake District summits with a handheld from the Cairngorms, and into Wales with the handheld feeding a yagi. Right place, right time has a lot to do with it too! Cheers, Fraser
Hello Fraser. I stumbled upon your video and I was really amazed to see the 100g yagi that I designed some ten years ago perfectly recreated in every detail, including the enlongment for the radiator due to the soldering rods being a little too short, the way the elements are locked into the boom, the thin aluminum elements a bit crocked after some accidental bending and straightening, and everything else! I would like to congratulate you for your creation and your wonderful SOTA activity! 73 de Davide IZ2UUF
Thank you Davide. I love using your design and it's brought me great results. When ever anyone asks me about it, I always send them the link to your website or tell them to Google 100g yagi. The odd bend doesn't seem to affect performance at all and it's usually easy to straighten out. It's such an innovative design and I hope you are proud of it! 73, Fraser MM0EFI
@@theradiorover thanks for your reply! When I begun working on the philosophy of using the lightest parts I could find, I was concerned about the elements bending, but several simulations I made confirmed that this kind of Yagi was very tolerant and the changes in performances were negligible. I used the same design for several other antennae, including a 5m long-boom 10 element Yagi for the 2m band for fixed use. It was so light and with little wind surface that it could be handled by a small TV rotor. In the few years I had it up, it never broke. I also discovered that even small birds don't land neither on the thin elements nor on the fishing rod: maybe it's not rugged enough for them, I don't know. :-)
@@DavideAchilli Awesome! I did consider building one for 70cm portable, but no one in my area uses 70cm very much. Actually, if you watch my videos, you'll see that no-one uses 2m much either!
Great video there Fraser and I see you've upped the production with a drone now and the music had my 6 year old dancing in the living room to it! ;-) You weren't kidding either when you said that it was Sunny there, certainly better conditions than I had on GW/NW-005. Great to get you ITL at a 270 mile contact, you were booming through to me. I was even picking you up on the HT with a rubber duck antenna. I've tuned my HB9CV Yagi now, so I should be getting more of the 5 watts heading in the right direction, when I remember to actually point it in the right direction! lol Looking forward the next one. Off to check out the 2m crew now ;-) 73 Richie MW7RJO
Cheers Richie, It was amazing to have the summit to summit! I was very lucky with the weather. You were running 5 watts? That's a good effort. It's all about the conditions though. @@theradiorover Yes you did brilliantly with the weather and that slope looked pretty steep, so well done filming and climbing that with one hand! Yes 5 watts through a FT 817ND on the internal battery. I had 3 swr off the Yagi so guess I was loosing some of that 5 watts. But as you said conditions were good that day. I have a new antenna build in mind, so I'll let you know how that goes ;-) Thanks Richie

Cheers! Yes, it was nice to be able to have a great day out using 2m. I struggle with that from my location due to lack of population, however Glas Maol is tall and has a good take off to the south, which is where almost everyone in Scotland lives! 73, Fraser
Fraser, SO WELL done thank you. I admire your tenacity & reflective effort to obtain your beautiful location. What frequencies did you use on SSB and which ones on FM Fraser? Were you using repeater frequencies on FM? I would love to know more. I have always been a HF boy (since 1978) but am starting to get into this 2m operation. I use an Icom IC-9700. Regards Mark, NSW Australia VK2MRF 👍
Hi Mark, Glad you enjoyed it. For 2m SSB, the centre of activity is 144.300 MHz and for FM it is 144.500 MHz. Could be different where you live though. Cheers, Fraser MM0EFI

Nope, it was a short hike up a ski track! Took me an hour, but only because I was carrying a drone, radio gear, axe, crampons! Maps will be back soon. 😄
