Hi Gil, you have rekindled my interest in 2 meters, that is how I started but in 1973. I have bought a old TR9000, and built a 7 element yagi, with a folded dipole driven element, also made a Moxon 4 element for 6 meters. I use 10 mm aluminum tube and a hand held bender in a vice, designed for bending 4,6 and 10 mm diameter copper gas pipe, you can make perfect 90 and 180 degree bends with, bought from ebay for about 15 Euros, I recommend it for any one making antennas from 28 to 440 mhz. Fascinating video.. Great to know that your father took part in the French Secret Radio Service during WW2. I 'm sure that you know they didn't use 2m SSB but very low power cw, from about 2.5 Mhz to 10 Mhz known at that time as Mc/s Mega Cycles per second. They didn't use a super efficient yagi like your A1 beam but pieces of wire, cunningly concealed out of view to try to deceive the Nazis and avoid capture. They most certainly didn't find a large hill to set up in full view to try to ensure a big signal to UK. or Fritz would have spotted them and 'homed in." They had to keep their heads down and stay 'one step ahead of DFing and other searches. Glad that you made your contact and UK is glad to have the help of heroes like your Dad. +Ian Harling That would be nice, we'll try some time!
after watching this it is a shame they are talking about taking away 2m in your area and they say nobody talks on it just a excuse.please help fight this if they take it away there they will eventually take it away here in the states too. so we all need too ban together too stop this. nice contacts across the pond there. enjoyed it very much.
I don't think it will happen but we need to remain vigilant.
Confirmed it won’t happen, wonderful :)
Brilliant Gil, thanks for making and sharing this vide. MW7BIH
Gil. I am curious of the flag you are wearing on your sleeve. I don't mean any disrespect but it is not the flag of the French. It is the English flag. In my opinion you have every right to display the flag of your choice. So with that being said why do you wear that flag? Or may I answer for you? HAha... Is it because you were attempting to make contact with England and this is your way of showing respect to the English. Much respect
Hi, simpler than that :-) I bought the jacket from a UK Ebay seller! The flag came with the jacket. Now I have replaced it with the Gadsden flag.
Point your antenna to the moon and may get international contacts too is cool may get some u.s contacts here
Unlikely with just one Yagi-Uda and 10W...
@@RadioPrepper yes true would need more power with your one six elements, and/or two sixes or more elements beam to do it but you done a nice shot to the u.k I enjoyed seeing your contact, thanks from Jim ka2rwp
Cambridge! That was a good one! Well over in the east of England. Manchester even better.
Hey, new rules say that you do not have to give your callsign after every over ( In the UK anyway) People might be looking at you like you have the plague, either because you're talking English, or because you're talking to them .. 😂😂
LOL.
25 miles is no great achievement really.
Those stations were not on the coast... It may not be that far but it sure beats swimming or even boating to carry a message over.
