Tips from somebody who just tried this..after running off to the groceries exactly as I finished the video.
    1. Don't go 5:5 with the strawberries and yogurt; I weighed both of them to the exact gram and it turned out to be a bit too smoothie-like, rather than like an ice cream. I suggest approx 6:4 strawberries to yogurt for the consistency shown in the video.
    2. Frozen strawberries can vary in sweetness, some may be quite sweet from being too ripe whereas some may not be ripe enough. Hence, try adding the sweetener (honey) after blending first, and mix in small quantities until you find the right sweetness.

+Jin Chun I tried tasting it pieces by pieces and I had none left O.o to blend it with.
Working in a smoothies bar, Fyi, texture and consistency of the mixture depends on 2 parts....
      A. RPM speed of the blender you are using vs blending duration.. We used a commercial multi speed with multi timer (programmed) blender.
      B. Temperature of the ingredients. My yoghurt was at 1~2"C which explains the ultra thick texture. The colder the yogurt, the harder it is.

Yeah there's no way he used 50:50 strawberries to yogurt. You can tell just by watching it when he put them in

I love food culture, I'm a cook at a restaurant in WV. Jamie Oliver is a HUGE inspiration because his passion is contagious. My life is not what I want it to be right now, but just watching Jamie and Genaro cook gives me the motivation that I need to make my life better. Cooking is my escape from stress in everyday life. To be able to meet or even talk to one of these two heros would be the greatest thing thats ever happened to me. Bless you Jamie Oliver for giving me strength.

Been making icecream like this for years :D My favourite combo would be Frozen Bananas + Cocoa. Add a little bit of Rum and after it's been mixed well, top with salty peanuts - you really wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't the most decadent chocolate icecream ever.

    • @TheZenBear
      @TheZenBear 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Depends how many bananas you use or how chocolatey you want it, but I'd say about 3 tablespoons for full blown chocolate explosion at 4-5 bananas :)

i just tried this tonight and it came out great, and i'm not even sure I did it right.
I know what you're thinking, how can you screw up a recipe with 3 ingredients? well, my food processor isn't as large as Jamie's, so it took longer to mash up, the yogurt i had was kind of old, and the ratios weren't exact. i could only get my hands on 450 grams of yogurt, but still used the 500g of strawberries. i don't know if that matters much, but it was still amazing

+PetrosB4 I think that's called "vegan ice cream". in addition to bananas, they add some cinnamon and vanilla. Guess that may enhance the flavor, but I'd rather eat something made from real cream and sweetness!

This was really good! I I tried a bunch of different %s of milk and they all worked really well too. To make an individual serving or two small servings I put 200g of frozen strawberries and 2floz of milk or yogurt (whatever % you choose) along with 1/2 Tbsp of melted and cooled honey, and a dash of vanilla. Yum!

  • @mayatasa

A household blender does not provide enough whip for the blending process. The only blender type device that will work like a food processor like the one Jamie used here is a Blendtec with a Wildside jar. I use mine all the time for making "Ice cream" and Sorbet in about 30 seconds. Instead of Pimms, try just using simple syrups for flavouring, no alcohol for those too young to enjoy. Cheers!

Pimm's No. 1 Cup is based on gin and can be served both on ice or in cocktails. It has a dark-tea colour with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It is often taken with "English-style" (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped fresh ingredients, particularly apples, cucumber, oranges, lemons, strawberry, and borage, though nowadays most substitute mint. Ginger ale is a common substitute for lemonade. Its base as bottled is 25 percent alcohol by volume.

I finally got around to making this yesterday. My jug blender actually did the job and the ice cream itself turned out okay. I left it a little bit bitter to match the alcohol content. Plus if I added too much honey it would have overwhelmed the strawberry flavour.
I personally found it required more Pimms. I followed these instructions to a T but I had to adjust possibly due to the lack of strawberry quality (I got the best ones I could find from a local market).

Pimm's No. 1 Cup is a liqueur based on gin. Tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It is often taken with "English-style" (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped fresh ingredients, particularly apples, cucumber, oranges, lemons, strawberry.

This Is brilliant yum! But, that honey is VERY dark I thought it was maple syrup :) Anyhow, I have been on a homemade ice cream kick this winter. A few weeks ago I made strawberry cheesecake ice cream, it was to die for:) But, I had made a double batch, and my drum was cold enough to set one churning but not the second. Well being in Canada in the dead of winter, and, having just had a third major snow storm in one week, AND....... as it was midnight and 35°C below freezing with a bitter cold wind blowing....I decided to simply set my metal bowl with the cream mixture in it, in a snow bank and stir! It set up in like 2 minutes! No word of a lie, as we say here in the East!
Well we still have those 150 cm snow banks but, the temps are moderating, the Canada geese are returning and the chickadees are starting to nest, so, in no time those snow banks will be gone and the daffodils will be up. In the meantime we await this year's maple syrup run:) Take care.

It is also know as 'Fruit cup'. It is a gin based spirit which is often used mixed with lemonade, lots of ice and sliced fruits- strawberries, oranges, cucumber and a bit of mint. The perfect summertime drink. You can buy online, search Pimm's on amazon. I hope you can get hold of some.

very smooth, will put in freezer. Either way, it was pretty good after I added a bunch more honey, and when that didnt work, some white sugar. Yum!

Shortbread breadcrumbs on the bottom of the bowl, ice cream on top of them, dribble of honey or golden syrup on the top, maybe some crushed hazelnuts too!
