Unfortunately for the Dominion, all their hard work and success of this month are going to be negated by the activities of a certain starfleet captain and a cardissian tailor working together to affect a dramatic shift in the balance of power in the alpha quadrant that will render all the dominions gains for naught.
El Adriel? Isn't that where the symbolism people confronted the Enterprise? I thought that was a really remote star system. Did they have no luck with the Cardasians? Were they all 'shaka, the walls fell, let's try the Federation'?
Kind of reminds me of the beginnings of Case Blue, the German offensive in the south of the USSR. It initially seemed hugely successful, the Soviets were expecting the offensive to be toward Moscow, and were caught by surprise with much of their forces out of position. Eventually this ended in a slugfest in a city most of us are familiar with: Stalingrad.
_"I think we may be going a bridge too far." - Frederick Browning_ This is most indeed a troubling situation for the Federation-Klingon Alliance. But a wounded Targ is most dangerous when corned, and the Dominion now has to deal with over 400 such 'Targs'. This stage of the war consists of quite a lot of countering counter-attacks to counter counter-attacks.
Report from USS Normandy, Bolaris prime. A number of us us field admirals and captains are well aware of the encirclement of our forces in this sector. Despite orders were forming a mixed unit consisting of both Klingon and Starfleet units in an attempt to “ punch a hole “ in the Dominion lines. Our hope is we can give those encircled units at least a fighting chance for escape. The 1st RRTU and several Squadrons of Birds of Prey are going to drop cloak and entice the defenders in New Gaul to come after us. If successful the plan is for the heavies to drill in and kill anything they can find. I’m hoping our units at New Halena get the idea. We’re hoping that “ Operation Doorstop” as were calling it is at least a partial success. I’m not sure what SFC is doing but we can’t let our friends be taken out like this. I’ve already told my Starfleet units Not one step back, victory or death. I know the BOP captains will not give quarter they’re Klingon. Good luck to all involved allied units. I was there for the fall of Betazed we did the same thing and tried to valiantly hold open an escape point for as long as we could. Now for once even if it’s adhoc I hope our offensive kicks open the door long enough to evacuate our forces. Normandy out
Too bad it's not gonna work. The Dominion neither moved fast enough or destroyed enough fleets or had enough ships to pull off this strategy. It was very bold and decisive though. Under the right circumstances it really could have worked.
@@LordMJ Most of the major deep space installations are gonna be around system assets. Those are things like Stars, Planets, Moon, Asteroids, Nebula's, et.. That's all you really need to focus on taking, holding, or defending. If the Fed and Klingon ships are never allowed to rest or refuel then it will increase the rate at which they are worn down.
It’s no wonder that within weeks of this dominion offensive the Federation is increasingly suffering manpower shortages. Also, we know that at some point during or shortly after this offensive the Federation suffers considerable damage to its shipyards…. Or so claims Romulan senator Vreenak!
To be honest, that comment about shipyards I suspect were in regards to those destroyed or severely damaged during the first three months of the war, when dominion was sweeping all before them up to operation return, particularly in the forward areas. As cannot say that all those big massive shipyards and industrial complex's in heart of core heartland federation territory were ever truly effected by war, except for Breen raid.
@@wedgeantillies66 Indeed, that is a compelling possibility. From the end of Siege of Vulcan (and other core systems) to the time Vreenak make his comment after the fall of Betazed, only 5-6 months have passed by our timeline here, and considerable damage to core infrastructure may still be under reconstruction.
@@BreweryDuke True, and damage to key worlds and shipbuilding infrastructure would still be recovering and being rebuilt in forward areas recently recovered from the dominion. Though, except for Vulcan Border and Betazoid itself areas and Earth itself later on during Breen sneak attack, those core world shipyards and industrial complex were never even rarely troubled, heck even during siege of Vulcan, dominion is successful kept at arms lenght. Which along with areas along klingon and romulan borders not hit, gave federation solid base from which to build new ships and plus can never underestimate starfleet's ability to bring hundreds of new ships out of mothballs into service if they needed at any point.
Very much do like how the attack into encirclement works! And how the aggression of the Klingons plays into their encircelment. Also curious - how exactly does an 'encirclement' work in space? Is there any reason that the fleet can't simply withdraw at high warp, fight a delaying action in the area, and presume they can fight their way out and withdraw and preserve most of their assets? Presuming the Dominion has to pursue them and can't get localized superiority and has to fight on equal terms for a breakout attempt. or that the Klingon fleets can't en masse cloak and avoid engagement or take on hit and run attacks to make a hole and burst out? Just how does forcing an enemy fleet to stay in 'place' anchored to a system work in a world where everyone can mostly go at high speed and if necessry withdrawing from an area to preserve a fleet is viable politically (like happened early in the war)?
Encirclement doesn't work in space unless the encircled forces don't have enough "fuel" to make it back to their own space. One of the premises of this particular war diary series is that the fleets are often short on antimatter or dilithium so encirclement is possible, even though canonically we often see starships maintaining warp speed for weeks, or even months, without requiring resupply. I guess wartime demands can make a difference, though on the other hand there should be a giant antimatter and dilithium economy to support all the civilian freighters during peacetime and the militaries should be able to tap into that...
The 1st scenario is only possible if you close enough to the gap. Which some of the klingons are. The 2nd scenario is not so easy because the dominion can penetrate the cloaking device.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I do wonder though, escaping to one or two sectors away only takes a couple of days at warp at the most, how can a fleet not have the resources for that? Is antimatter really in such short supply all the time, or was that explained in an earlier episode, maybe with production facilities in that part of the Federation being destroyed?
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Federation units at Bolarus prime and Klingon units have filled up as much as we can. In the next few hours without official sanction we’re initiating “ operation doorstop”. We hope to punch a hole in the dominion at New Gaul and hold it open for as long as we can stand the fire. Our hope is we can buy those encircled units enough time to haul ass out of the pocket. We’ve got several tankers and support units on hand too so that the encircled units can just top off and bolt. We at Starfleet have already told our Klingon allies that we are going to hold out for our fleet at New Halena to the last torpedo, to the last phaser bolt, to the last ship by ramming the bastards if need be. Make no mistake we are expecting the biggest slugfest since Jutland. May whatever gods we pray to and may Kahless favor us. Most if not all Federation ships pre-war are not build as warships. The Dominion is nothing but warships. Most Klingons' ships are warships and The Romulan D'deridex packs a punch.
Was the Klingon fleet stationed in federation space all through out the war? That's a lot of space to get from the Klingon Empire to Cardassian territory
I'm surprised the Klingons didn't take this as a opportunity to capture neutral unaligned systems around the Federation borders in the name of the war effort and same with Romulans.
Meanwhile, on Deep Space 9 Captain Sisko meets with a simple tailor to go over a matter that will have no effect on the war at all.
a plain simple tailor at that.

I keep forgetting that Changelings have 10,000 years of experience.
I think that fed fleet leader remembered the words of a ww2 general that was in a similar situation. "Nuts"

Good detail as always will the next monthly breakdown include Sisko" Romulan plan since it happens after the fall of Betazed?
This is a part of the war where I imagine a number of commando raids going on. :)

Is this an alternative history?
How does an encirclement spanning multiple light years work in 3D space and with ships with warp drives?
I'm talking the encirclement of fleets, not planets or solar systems which is a lot more believable
Bearing in mind not all these systems are on the same plane. By surrounding a system you also surround any ships stationed there.
