  • Crushing the Opponent’s Balance: A look at grip fighting without fighting the grip.
In this video I demonstrate a few techniques for BJJ or judo when an opponent has a strong grip on your lapel. The techniques are from Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu and even Ninjutsu. Instead of fighting the opponent’s grip and potentially losing your balance, use old jujutsu principles to crush the opponent’s balance and drop them in place.

wow! i love this robert! these techniques can be done softly but super effectively and with minimal force as needed. i often struggle with dealing with the opponents grips.

Your over and push needs some work. Not mentioning how easy it is to defeat it. In Your first example of the over the top and reach. All She needs to to do is shift Her weight to You belly to belly. And moves her weight above his. Swinging Her left side over Him. He ends up on His back. In the second example around 6 minutes in. She steps to the outside of Your left foot. Now it has no place to go and You lose the position again. Easy fixes for this barely used attack.

@robert silas for the first one where are you exactly reaching to cause her to lose balance? would it work against stiff arms also?

What are your thoughts on dealing with potential strikes from the person grabbing you?
