    To this day I'm still salty that Guillermo wasn't able to direct _The Hobbit._ It would've been awe-inspiring to this his vision and style of _Middle Earth_ would look like.

    • @Frediloc8
      @Frediloc8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      Considering the pressure and hell that Jackson had to endure from the studio (not being able to spend enough time in pre-production and filming as he wanted), I am kind of glad that del Toro didn't have to endure that suffering. I still would have loved to see his vision of Middle Earth on the big screen, though.

    • @mechajay3358

      @@Frediloc8 Yeah, Studio interference is the worst.

      I have a feeling that Del Toro wanted to do his own thing but the studio wanted to keep the prequels closer to the style of the originals, which is understandable because the movies were supposed to be for Lord of the Rings fans, and not Guillermo Del Toro fans.
      I'd rather have Del Toro tackle original ideas than sequels, or prequels.

    • @canomia
      @canomia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It would have been wonderfull.
      I really think his style would have fit beautifully with The Hobbit. As a Tolkien fan I really think the book deserved an adaptation that was more than just cheap fanservice drawn out over far too many films.

    It's probably worth mentioning that the artist of the pieces from 0:07 to 0:19 as well as pretty much all the Hellboy characters is Mike Mignola, a very acclaimed "monster-maker" in his own right, whose use of negative space, rough designs and humane characterization of "monstrous" being has a lot in common with Del Toro's design philosphy, at least result-wise. That's also probably why they've worked together so much. Good storyteller too.

    A combination of your editing, the music, the uniformity of Del Toro's work and me not having seen any of his films made all these different monsters feel like they were all part of a single, sprawling universe, which felt like its own piece of art. I have since seen one of his movies with the weird red monster in the snow mansion, pretty good film, but there is something oddly delightful about imagining an Alice In Wonderland type mega kingdom or something bridging the worlds of all of Del Toro's different movie monsters!
