Wow! Thanks for taking the time to compile this, kaptainkristian - I was the Assistant Effects Animator on the lamp swinging scene - Chris Jenkins was the Lead EFX Animator and we worked for several weeks with a crack team of EFX inbetweeners on this one scene, having worked out the peaks and troughs of the shadow movement by marking the individual frames off on the Exposure Sheet, sitting at a Steenbeck flatbed editing machine and going through the footage frame by frame before pencil was put to paper. But most importantly of all - London Effects Dept Lead, Chris Knott (largely uncredited in other places) and rostrum camera operator, John Leatherbarrow deserve ALL the credit for developing and fine-tuning the multi-level techniques that made the whole layering of shading (not to mention sequins, contact shadows, translucencies etc) possible - one frame at a time, one level at a time, 24 fps. One of these days Chris Knott's name will go ON that Visual Effects Oscar - where it belongs.
Just checked out his IMDB page - seems he and I have crossed paths numerous times - including on the infamous "Christmas Carol".... but I'm not sure that we've ever met.
Woaw, that bump the lamp scene was absolutely amazing. I had never noticed it. I knew the animators put a lot of work into the movie (that was obvious) but they indeed really went above and beyond for that scene. I'm just gonna watch the movie again.
TVChild3 In the industry it became a term for when a scene is made incredibly hard for an unneeded action. Nowadays most of those shots end up being cut. But in this you couldn't reshoot.
Cool World has great art style, but they had limited time, money and support to really make the film what it could have been: an adult horror fantasy. Instead, it is a mash-up of weird scenes, unfinished animation, and nonsense.
It's pretty timeless, too. I think this movie fits just as much to people today as it did when it released. I might be a bit biased because I was a kid from the Saturday morning cartoon era, but I think as long as you grew up with good cartoons (which most people have, thanks to stuff like Cartoon Network) you can appreciate this movie.
How is this movie underrated? Pretty confident I could ask anyone about it and they would know what I am talking about. I watched this many times in my childhood in multiple settings.
This is your best one yet. I'm in awe of how much work went into that film now, and your points were so concise and fleshed out. You've made a great work of art even better. Bravo, man.
Damn, that bump the lamp scene was to much for me to handle. Their work ethic is insane .......I'm gonna go watch some more kaptainkristian vids and procrastinate
The thing I love about KaptainKristian's videos is that he covers subjects many wouldn't think to cover like Bugs Bunny or Spawn comics. Most of these analysis channels will make videos about the MCU or classic 90's cartoons. Kaptain goes the other way though and does videos about media that you may be vaguely aware of but by the end, you're hooked. That is how you know you're a good content creator; when people will watch the videos not because of the subject matter, but for the creator themselves.
To be fair, he's covered Superman, Batman, Pokémon, South Park, etc. Most of what he covers is fairly recognizable to your average millennial [1980s-2000s] who grew up in the West. It's not _that_ obscure or vague.
Yeah but using Superman as an example, he talks about the Fleischer cartoons. What I meant was he doesn't cover "hot topics", he does do videos on famous properties but most of the time he will look at different aspects of said properties to most.
Goomboid I agree that's why people come, but its kind of sad too because most people in the comments section clearly have never seen the movie and the same goes for the other videos Kristian makes. It goes to show that a lot of the videos he makes are on underrated pieces.
if you like this you should check out Brows Held High. he covers more art house movies. or Channel Chriswell and Every Frame a Painting who make similar in depth videos about all sorts of movies
They would make high budget 2D animation like they did with princess and the frog, if you would go see it so that it makes more than 267 million at box office compared to Frozen's 1.276 billion box office gross. Animated films are a business as much as they are a passion.
It is amazing that Roger Rabbit felt like he was actually in the same space as the physical characters. Especially when so many CGI elements don't, even when they look more real than Roger, they feel more fake. I think a lot of special effects people need to look at Roger to remind themselves what needs to be included to make something feel like it is in the same space.
I've worked in animation for years. The idea that animators are lazy is ridiculous. Richard Williams is known for his technical brilliance but also for being a tyrant to work with. I've heard a story of him yelling at one of his animators for missing work to see his son being born. Animating multiple characters in a camera move is way more work. That is fine if the company asking for that is willing to put in the extra budget and time for it. In my experience, the limiting factor to how good of animation we can make is budget and time, never the work ethic or skill of the artists. For me personally and most artists I've worked with, we love to "polish the lamp" and make our work as good as we can. However, polishing the lamp usually requires unpaid overtime. By all means, polish the lamp in your own creative pursuits, but keep in mind how much you'd like to work for free to add details that most people will never notice for somebody else's vision. This video is very informative. I don't mean to trash it at all, but I feel the other side of "polishing the lamp" needs to be mentioned.
Yeah, more like "because *studios are greedy* (and don't give the animation production crew the the opportunity to even try to "bump the lamp," because that requires investing money into hiring [X] number of animators & paying them to work for the necessary [Y] number of hours)." In general I hate when animation is shit on, because we know there are movies & shows with great animation...which means great animation is 100% attainable...People know how to do it. The tools are available. The work required to make the good animation is 100% available to be done... *it just needs to be paid for* properly! Good animation isn't some "secret recipe" with "secret ingredients" that only one studio can have. It's not a mystery why a well animated piece of media is well animated. The only thing stopping a studio from copying the good animation is...money. They just need to hire a team of animators who can get the same level & amount of work done. Now, I do acknowledge that the decision to not invest in good animation is not always just pure greed...sometimes the budget genuinely isn't available (like for tiny studios, or about to be bankrupt studios, etc.)...but the consequence is the same: "Bumping the lamp" isn't finished in time because no one was paid to help finish it! You don't get to not pay someone to do a job...and then complain when the consequences of your (in)actions include the job not being done...(or done poorly, because you only hired 5 people to do a job in a timeframe that in reality needed a crew of 10+). _(This goes for so much of media production...and all work at this point...people acting entitled & shitting on understaffed, over worked crew that has a job that can't be completed properly in time no matter how much over time is racked up.)_ Sorry /end rant lol
Who Framed Roger Rabit is my second favorite film of all time. It takes cartoons seriously and tells a great noir tale. I think Bob Hoskins performance in this film is one of the most underrated of all time. He takes a second seat to the animated ensemble and reacts genuinely to actions he can't even see. So excited this flick got the KaptainKristian treatment. Looking forward to getting to the other side of this rainbow, it's going to be a hell of a ride.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit had to be the most cleverest thing I've seen as a kid when they merged animation to reality. I give a standing ovation to the animators cause that was some serious work. Thanks again for yet another amazing video Kaptain!
Kaptain Kristian, your style is second to none. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a wonderful movie, and I'm so happy for it to be done justice by you. Thank you.
The devil is in the details, as they say. And the fact that so much detail went into this movie makes Who Framed Roger Rabbit a modern classic. When I saw this in theaters as a kid, I was blown away by the idea of Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same movie. Today, I can appreciate the amount of dedication that went into making this movie a reality. Not many movies these days put in that same effort and it is a shame. Thanks, Kaptain.
Roger Rabbit is one of the few movies that I saw as kid that I could pop into today and still enjoy it. The animation and the story holds up more than most movies can even hope for that are being made today in my view.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my favorite movies. It's so timeless and everything about it is wonderfully done. The animation, effects, story, characters and music all add up to create a magical experience. An immense achievement. Also, despite the shortcomings of the animated sequence of Mary Poppins, I also love it's characters, story, songs and overall message, that one should never take life for granted and that you should take every chance to enjoy and appreciate the best parts of life while you can. That what I take from those films. Something meaningful and powerful that I'll never forget.
My favorite movie of all time covered by one of my favorite TH-camrs of all time? Sold. Roger Rabbit made me want to become an animator when I was a kid. Also, I freaked out when you showed the Animator's Survival Kit at the very end. Bravo, Kristian. Bravo.
Kaptain, I may never know who you are, and that is ok. But, I want you to know that you have brought an immense amount of joy to my life and you are the only production I've ever looked forward to seeing every once in awhile. I've never had a internet hero before, but I'd have to say.... you're my internet hero. Thanks for giving us your gift. You are a magnificent human who is a magnificent contributor to the internet. I hope that one day a college class is taught after your video essays.
If it makes you feel better, I'm a high school teacher and I show his videos in class if they're relevant (the one on story, for instance, helped in talking about short stories and the significance of reading/interpreting fiction). I have my students do a video essay project, and I tell them, "Aim for the style and substance of KaptainKristian."
Man, that's awesome! I'm glad that you do that, because his gift should definitely be spread to as many people as possible. He may be the best critic I've ever heard talk about subjects I've never really thought about before. That is the whole magic in it, is he is making us "think."
Consistency (in this case with animation) is a weird thing: You probably won't notice it when it's there, but if it's missing you can immediately tell something's off.
Your videos are the types that should be shown in schools so kids actually learn something fascinating. FUCK THE PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM!!! Also, some topics I'd love to see you tackle: -Batman Beyond -Eminem -Indiana Jones -Back To The Future -Star Wars -Nightwing -Sony and PlayStation -Editing
You think bumping the lamp or maintaining an eyeline didn't involve any trigonometry? Think about all the angles and scaling involved in the animation. Never mind all the trigonometry in electrical engineering that allows the practical team to rig up precision servos. All this animation artistry isn't just about passion and creativity and being able to "draw good". You actually need math in order to achieve technical excellence.
Actually the Pythagorean Theorem could be taught in a fascinating way, too. The history behind it and the theorems implications are amazing. I hate math as much as the next person, but don't diss Pythagoras the Samian, mate.
Guys cmon lol. It was a joke. Anything can be interesting. But we do learn useless shit in school and we all know that. Pythagorean theorem was just the first school-ish thing that popped into my head lol
Kristian, you are a modern Shakespeare. Your way with words and the feelings that they produce are the closest thing to real magic I've ever had the good pleasure of seeing and hearing. I know you made a new video recently and I hope you're starting back up again. Your video essays are chicken noodle soup for the soul and I'm very grateful for your admiration and dedication of the same things I loved growing up. Regardless of weather or not you keep producing essays or not I sincerely hope this comment finds you well and with the knowledge that you have a true fan of your amazing talent. Thank you.
I find Robert Zemeckis films to be some of the most beloved and rewatchable movies out there. They haven't got something hidden in every frame that you have to watch multiple times to get the full experience, like an Edgar Wright movie, although you could make the exeption to Roger Rabbit, because there is something hidden in every frame. Especially love the Road Runner joke. There isn't deeper meaning or life changing things in his movies, but they seem to be the most rewatchable in my opinion and when I say beloved, I mean fondly remembered. I asked my Mother, cousins, aunts, family in general and Roger, Back to the future, etc... seem to be the most nostalgic movies for them, beyond the classic Spielberg, first R rated experience or even childhood show. Truly fascinating.
Beautiful. I loved Roger Rabbit. It was such a unique and innovative film of my generation. Movies made in the old hand-drawn manner are what I consider to be the heart of animation. I highly respect those artists. Thank you for doing this.
I love you, man. I just found this channel this week and you're quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-camrs, and now you're covering one of my favorite movies! Thanks for all that you do. :)
Contrary to what many people may say, don't collab with Nerdwriter. His videos feel very artificial while yours have so much heart, I don't want you to lose that. If you're going to collab with anyone (and even that feels iffy) I would say go with Every Frame a Painting.
I have a tendency to tell people that "the best effects are the ones you never notice" Yes, there are plenty of movies out there with "terrible" CGI effects, but nobody ever credits the CGI that they don't notice. Almost every modern movie now incorporates some form of green screen, even if it's just there to fill out the background, or give it a color grade completely different than how it was naturally shot. WFRR is a perfect marriage of practical and digital effect. It's one of my favorite movies.
Monarch Doge He did a Toonami one, I think that will probably be the proxy version of those anime shows off that era. Perhaps not though. I think Cowboy Bebop is right up the channel's alley.
He should do one about how The Matrix succeeded at using anime tropes in Hollywood. Maybe after Ghost in the Shell(remake) comes out so he has a failure to contrast it with like the Roger Rabbit Vs. Cool World, y'know. Cowboy Bebop is great and, sure, a lot of anime that followed stole from it but the same is true of Neon Genesis Evangelion... I don't really have a point.
How many essays are there on Space Dandy? It seems like it'd be a lot more interesting to talk about, especially from a technical animation standpoint.
Holy shit this was a blast from the past! It never crossed my mind how ahead of its time this movie actually was since I only watched it as a child and on VCR.
Awesome, video. Richard Williams deserves a little more credit. He's the maniac that responsible for the insane amount of detail the animation has. Not many people with a commitment to a craft as strong as his. But anyway just found this channel, and I'm really appreciating everything I've see so far.
Dude this is by far the single best video I've ever seen on TH-cam, ever. The way you deconstruct so many various concepts, characters and genres is masterful and truly mesmerizing. I truly hope you get your material on a network television show because if this kind of material was on HBO, I would buy the collectors box set and preach your praises to the masses. Well done!
An odd case but I think the movie Kamikaze Girls (Shimotsuma Story-Yankee Girl & Lolita Girl) is actually better than the book. The book has a couple of extra scene which are nice but the movie is one of the most well directed and amazing things I've seen. Turns everything from the book up to 11.
You know, I really love this channel. I'm not a long time fan, but I'm still a fan. I've noticed that I remember whatever comes out of your videos. I learn something or I get inspired to do something. Other youtubers that do gameplay videos and other crap like that are nothing more than tutorials, quick laughs, or just white noise while I'm doing something. But this channel is just really good. I always leave with something that sticks with me. Seriously, thank you and please never become a cheap, no effort youtuber. You're better than that and I'm glad you acknowledge that so continue please.
Kristian, I feel you have 'bumped the lamp' in your youtube series. Your thoughtful topic carefully researched a long wit your presentation has turned your channel into one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing your awesomeness with us!
This video made me want to check out your channel. I'm a practicing student artist atm, and this video is one of many that is helping me to open my eyes to just how much thought, dedication, elbow grease, and soul goes into masterpieces like this film. Thank you for covering this one, sir. Well written, well done.
Please never stop making videos. You're an amazing video essayist and I love the work that you do. Your videos take so much thought and production, and we all appreciate them. Your bump the lamp comment at the end gave me goosebumps, and really made an impact more than a TH-cam video has possible ever had on me. Thank you for what you do, and you have so many people that adore your work. You are truly a gifted and talented person.
Your description and storytelling was amazing. I never noticed any of this.. but I will go back and watch it again. Love your bump the lamp tag.. Wishing you good times.. Cheers!
Literally blown away by your channel. The editing is absolutely amazing and you write about topics that the average person tends to overlook. I always have a deeper appreciate for craft after watching one of your videos. Keep up the incredible work.
Why? They have two very different styles. Yes, both do the whole video essay thing with the characteristic 'vsauce' vocal cadence, but that's where the comparison ends. I can't really see how their content would benefit from a collab.
David Boucard I think it'd be cool to see two people who's content I enjoy to share their enthusiasm about something they both like in the same video. I'm not saying the outcome would be amazing, its just something I wanna see.
My own dislike of nerdwriter aside, KaptainKristian's style doesn't come off to me as something that he could share with another person. It would just feel off.
You deliver information so smoothly and comfortably i feel like I already know it. Like an old friend recounting one of your favorite stories of his- except its actually the first time you are ever hearing it. Always looking forward to your next, dude
This video is amazing, much like your other ones. I've always loved this movie and it shows just how good it is when you rewatch it years after and you're still just as hooked, when you notice the enchantment hasn't vanished. The work it in is absolutely phenomenal and that's why it's still standing years after without having become outdated. That aside, the way you edit your videos honestly blows me away. I adore it completely. Keep up the good stuff !
This is amazing! I knew the animation took a lot of work but I never knew exactly how it was done! I think kaptainkristian's videos are kind of underrated, I see them pop up here and there but they really should be appreciated more!
Well you definitely bumped the lamp with a level of editing that wasn't expected or required in the field of video essay. Your essays are strong by themselves (sometimes I watch them podcast-style just to enjoy the rhythm the words have) but the extra message you convey with the way you edit them is so great, video after video. Keep it up!
I'd just like to say thank you. Your videos are just so comforting and informative. They're relaxing and interesting. You have a wonderful style that I look forward to often!
The thing that impressed me most was the realistic shadows of the characters and also how well the actors interacted with the cartoons. This other stuff...I’m shook lol
Animation student and lover checking in. Thank you so so so so much for this video. AMaZing people like you guys give us tremendous motivation to continue doing what we love
im always never interested in the topic going in but you draw me in every time. these videos make me appreciate not only the works you cover but movies and art(in all forms) in general. thankyou for this new founded appreciation.
I love this channel so damn much. Such care and high standards in editing and presentation.. excellent scripting and narration. Most of all you provide me new found appreciation for things I already loved.. and things I didn't. Can't get enough.
I know you're just here for the thumbnail you fucking pervert
kaptainkristian no I swear
kaptainkristian stopped watching porn to fap to thumbnail
No I'm here for you because I absolutely love your channel.
kaptainkristian nah m8
That's a broad accusation.
Wow! This comment needs to be pinned, +kaptainkristian.
That's interesting. Did you happen to know Chris Clarke? I worked with him for a few years.
Remind me which department he was in.......
Just checked out his IMDB page - seems he and I have crossed paths numerous times - including on the infamous "Christmas Carol".... but I'm not sure that we've ever met.
I remember him telling me he did the in-between work.
Woaw, that bump the lamp scene was absolutely amazing. I had never noticed it. I knew the animators put a lot of work into the movie (that was obvious) but they indeed really went above and beyond for that scene. I'm just gonna watch the movie again.

You may have not noticed it, but your brain did.
MFW when Kristian used Cool World as an example of bad animation but you still say it's good.
Cool World has some amazing animation in it. But it doesn't interact well with the live action like it does in Roger Rabbit.
Cool World has great art style, but they had limited time, money and support to really make the film what it could have been: an adult horror fantasy. Instead, it is a mash-up of weird scenes, unfinished animation, and nonsense.
Thanks for bumping the lamp again, again, and again Kaptain 👍
Best channel on TH-cam. Its people like Kaptain that deserve to be spotlighted creators on this site.
The better question is, will senpai notice.
That ending quote tho, that got me. "Always take the time to bump the lamp because someone will notice"
It's a lot more poignant, too, when you realise how much lamp-bumping KaptainKristian does himself.
The Dr. Seuss video being the best example of that. He by no means needed to write the whole script in the rhyming format of Seuss but well he did
Take the time to note how genre-specific this quote is, yet the meaning is applicable to any field of work. Great vid!
Seriously, not enough people talk about this freaking film. Its a jewel in film history. Astonishing. I adore this film.
StuckDucks its not a kids film. Thats why people find it off putting at times. Its a dark comedy with cartoons. And a brilliant one as well.
starkingbiker True that. Even though I watched this movie pretty early TBH 😂

2ndsergeantpavlov I couldn't agree more.
Go back and watch some of his other videos, he seems to put the same amount of effort into a lot of his transitions.
Came back to watch this now that Richard Williams has passed. He’s such a legend. Today is a sad day.
Damn, that bump the lamp scene was to much for me to handle. Their work ethic is insane
.......I'm gonna go watch some more kaptainkristian vids and procrastinate
"Always take a moment to bump the lamp", I like that! Well said!
keep bumping the lamp Joel! Everyone is noticing all the hard work and love that you put in each of you videos 🙌 you are the best man
One of the better "You don't notice it, but your brain did" video essays on the nuance of animation. Richard Williams really is a master of the craft.

Roger Rabbit is a fucking gorgeous movie, it's a real shame American animation studios don't make high-budget 2D animation anymore.
For real.
I really miss traditional animation. :/
fireaza I would like to see a Disney movie or any animated movie that isnt CGI
Thank God for the japanese, because without them traditionally animated movies would be dead already.
They would make high budget 2D animation like they did with princess and the frog, if you would go see it so that it makes more than 267 million at box office compared to Frozen's 1.276 billion box office gross. Animated films are a business as much as they are a passion.
Because it's high budget. Animation ain't free.

Sorry /end rant lol
I read "Richard Williams" as "Robin Williams" and did a double-take.
@@Woodenfandid you do a double take like the genie and instead rub the lamp by accident?
The shadows and lighting at 5:30 man. That's so lit!
thank you for the subtitles on the previous videos, sharing your work with way more friends now :)
this is mind blowing, as a kid i couldn't comprehend how much effort went into this film

for me, this movie has the most visually stunning effects ive seen...and this movie came out in 1988.
A new upload from kaptainkristian? AND IT'S ABOUT ROGER RABBIT?
IT'S A GIFT FROM THE GODS, ALELUYA!
He gives praise where praise is due.
SirClawedfrog praise our lord and saviour
Santiago Olivera, "hallelujah"
But yeah.
I wasn't talking about Danny Devito, but sure.
Santiago Olivera PRAISE JEEBUS!!
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is going to be back on Netflix streaming on the 24th for all those who are interested.
Jomander of February? Or March?
Daniel Medina March
Jomander now it’s on Disney+
Another awesome video! I found that "bump the lamp" line pretty inspiring haha. Definitely going to share.

*lamp bumping squad.
My boyfriend Dennis had been nudging me to watch this video for the past two days, no regrets! Amazing analysis! Love love love your channel!
I for real watched this movie every day at one point in my childhood. Thank you :')
Bravo.
Thank you for giving me a new appreciation for one of my favourite films.
Also, some topics I'd love to see you tackle:
-Batman Beyond
-Eminem
-Indiana Jones
-Back To The Future
-Star Wars
-Nightwing
-Sony and PlayStation
-Editing
Alex Love DCAU
Batman TAS
Superman TAS
Batman tnba
Batman beyond
JL
JLU .
Well this wouldn't be very good for math class, but obviously his videos would be perfect for a media studies class.
Always exceed my expectations, really awesome videos. Thank you.
Can't say nothing else than thanks man. Also, your videos are fucking awesome.
Thanks brother! Absolutely love your music
Thank you for doing this.
the quality of your videos never fail too impress me
I love you, man.
Completely agree.
I’d actually love to see him collab with Movies With Mikey
That was an amazing breakdown. I love this movie and had never even went to the levels of analysis that you did. Well done.
Nothing Like A Box of KaptainKristian's for Breakfast! Now I know I'm in for a good day!
You just woke up, I have half of the day to go!
*drinks shot*
Wish me luck!
I have a tendency to tell people that "the best effects are the ones you never notice"
Yes, there are plenty of movies out there with "terrible" CGI effects, but nobody ever credits the CGI that they don't notice. Almost every modern movie now incorporates some form of green screen, even if it's just there to fill out the background, or give it a color grade completely different than how it was naturally shot.
WFRR is a perfect marriage of practical and digital effect. It's one of my favorite movies.
YOURE bumping the lamp kaptain kristian
Once again, you have given me an even greater appreciation for something I already loved. Thanks and keep up the good work!
keep bumping the lamp Kristian! we all appreciate it!
Thank you for honoring one of my favorite movies of all time.
Damn that was good!
Weirdest place to find you
I appreciate all the visual effects you put into your videos. You really bumped the lamp on this one!
Great video. How about one on Cowboy Bebop?
Monarch Doge check out channel criswells very recent essay on it. Though it doesn't really dive into the animation aspects of it
Monarch Doge He did a Toonami one, I think that will probably be the proxy version of those anime shows off that era. Perhaps not though. I think Cowboy Bebop is right up the channel's alley.
I just wrote that in a coment haha, cheers bro
*rubs hands together* here we go
I read that in a Joker voice. Chills.
Birdman voice...
Afonso Lucas mark hammill joker voice
Also I find it funny how he mentions cool world and Nostalgia Critics review of Cool World comes out a bit after haha awesome!
Awesome, video. Richard Williams deserves a little more credit. He's the maniac that responsible for the insane amount of detail the animation has. Not many people with a commitment to a craft as strong as his. But anyway just found this channel, and I'm really appreciating everything I've see so far.
Do a video on Samurai Jack, yo.
We notice all your Bump the lamp details in your editing, Kaptain :)
Can't believe it took me so long to realise that my lecturer in school was one of the animators in the pic lmao
This is amazing. Thank you for discussing one of my favourite movies. Holds up incredibly well, even today.
I came because of Richard Williams's passing. He will be missed.
Well done!
Bump the lamp, I wouldn't mind bumpin that Jessica Rabbit either.
Another great video!
I'm so glad you're trending. Your videos are always well thought out. Great job!
I finished who censored Roger rabbit last month, in my opinion I enjoyed the book more than the movie.
For once I'd like someone to say "the movie was better than the book".
Exactly.
Plank 2x4 The author of the book thinks the movie was much better. So much better in fact that he wrote all the sequels in the movie's style.
censored Roger rabbit?
For the love of God please do Samurai Jack
Kristian, I feel you have 'bumped the lamp' in your youtube series. Your thoughtful topic carefully researched a long wit your presentation has turned your channel into one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing your awesomeness with us!
eyeline, or 'that thing that George Lucas completely abandoned from 1999-2005', hahaha
This video made me want to check out your channel. I'm a practicing student artist atm, and this video is one of many that is helping me to open my eyes to just how much thought, dedication, elbow grease, and soul goes into masterpieces like this film. Thank you for covering this one, sir. Well written, well done.
Anyone else back here from that new and awful Chip n Dale trailer?
Please never stop making videos. You're an amazing video essayist and I love the work that you do. Your videos take so much thought and production, and we all appreciate them. Your bump the lamp comment at the end gave me goosebumps, and really made an impact more than a TH-cam video has possible ever had on me. Thank you for what you do, and you have so many people that adore your work. You are truly a gifted and talented person.
Rip Richard Williams.
Your description and storytelling was amazing. I never noticed any of this.. but I will go back and watch it again. Love your bump the lamp tag.. Wishing you good times.. Cheers!
Its sad to see the work of Robert Zemeckis now. Allied is more soulless than any lifeless cartoon. Its sad because he had a genuine talent and eye.
Purefoldnz I really Robert gets his groove
Fantastic video. I didn't realise how much work went into the animation with all the layers, especially with the bumping the lamp thing.
This movie is a damned marvel.
This is why you are my favorite channel on TH-cam! Amazing content about the things that I love!
rest in peace richard williams
Literally blown away by your channel. The editing is absolutely amazing and you write about topics that the average person tends to overlook. I always have a deeper appreciate for craft after watching one of your videos. Keep up the incredible work.
do a collab with Nerdwriter1 !
darkzero10991 YES!!!!!
It would just feel off.
nerdwriter is a pretentious hack. Kristian & Every Frame A Painting are where it's at.
You deliver information so smoothly and comfortably i feel like I already know it. Like an old friend recounting one of your favorite stories of his- except its actually the first time you are ever hearing it. Always looking forward to your next, dude
Nerd writer ain't got shit on you
Agreed. Nerdwriter vids are, with some exceptions, all style and no substance. Kaptain blends both perfectly.
Hands down the best videos on TH-cam; and they keep getting better and better. Keep it up, we're watching intently.
bruh
Awesome. Thank you. This is really helpful and informative.
If you have a transcript, we can help translate this to Indonesian ... ?
The thing that impressed me most was the realistic shadows of the characters and also how well the actors interacted with the cartoons. This other stuff...I’m shook lol
Absolutely superb, very nicely put forward.
Animation student and lover checking in. Thank you so so so so much for this video. AMaZing people like you guys give us tremendous motivation to continue doing what we love
Recently discovered you and three vids in, I'm hooked!
You are my favorite TH-camr. Holy shit. The dedication to your craft and your clean presentation are astounding. Please keep up the great work!
You bumped the lamp on the seuss episode dude!!!!!
love it! great choice of music as always!!!
im always never interested in the topic going in but you draw me in every time. these videos make me appreciate not only the works you cover but movies and art(in all forms) in general. thankyou for this new founded appreciation.
I love this channel so damn much. Such care and high standards in editing and presentation.. excellent scripting and narration.
Most of all you provide me new found appreciation for things I already loved.. and things I didn't.
Can't get enough.
