Historically, they really were good friends. Washington considered him like a son, and wrote about that on several occasions. Lafayette went on later to name his first son, born in 1779, Georges Washington, after his friend and mentor. Although this was the very beginning of their friendship, I think this scene shows it nicely.
Katrinasis You’re right. They met in late August of 1777 and Arnold fled in September of 1780. At this point Washington has already told one French ambassador that he considers Lafayette a son.
They had a father-son relationship. Someone did a thread on Twitter from the book “Washington” by Ron Chernow, showing their relationship. I’ll see if I can find it.
Why did they take this scene out?!? It’s such a famous line when he says “whom can we trust now?” It’s really heart crushing to see such a strong figure so vulnerable & hurt by a friendship he genuinely cared for, seriously love how this scene was executed between Washington & Lafayette
This scene adds a lot of context to later when it shows Washington so obsessed with trying to capture Arnold alive, kidnap him from New York, and eventually put a bounty on his head. It hit him on a personal level we sometimes get a glimpse into, but it's one of the few scenes that shows Washington as vulnerable. This and when he was at Bunker Hill, the actor who played Washington deserves so much praise.
I'm more interested in the conversation before Arnold jumped downstairs. What conversation (with a great leader) has a grown man speaking in what sounds like a high pitched feminine voice.
Im so curious what they are talking about In the scene right as he comes down the stairs, the high pitched voices, it looks like they're all having a good time, and it just sounds hilarious, I want to know so badly. And the fact that it continues immediately after he leaves the building too sjahsjaka AND the way they turn to look at him when he first comes down the stairs so suddenly, that's golden
I read somewhere that Washington did actually cry when he learned of Arnold’s betrayal... which was the first time his soldiers witnessed him doing so.
It is said that he only cried when he found out Arnold was a traitor. I would bet he shed quite a few happy tears when the Brits surrended at Yorktown. Watching them raise the flag of America was one of the most emotional moments in a show I've ever encountered. I can just imagine what it was like and really wish i could go back in time to see that. TURN is my favorite show of all time, with a fascinating story( even if there liberties with the facts) and CASTING WAS PERFECTION. I truly dont understand why this show was not as popular as other series on tv. To me, it was near perfectiin.
It didn't seem that Washington's chief intelligence officer, Hamilton, or Lafayette like Arnold as Washington did from reading the book, but it must have really hurt Washington went he found out that Arnold betrayed him, his men, and the country. This like the book, was very, very good, great actors, and actresses, all did a really great job, again great show!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm also somewhat disappointed when our American ancestors didn't say. "the Germans are coming. Since Germany was our enemy, for 3 times in a row. We didn't say, the Germans are coming in the first World War and WW2 especially. It's amazing that the Germans, never participated in the battle for New Orleans. That's the war of 1812.
They were slaves of one of the greatest men in human history who founded the greatest country of all time. I’m sure they considered it an honor to be slaves of George Washington
Washington has needed a hug since the start of the series
You mean since the start of the revolutionary war.

Washington referred Lafayette as his son multiple times.
@@urlocalgranmaWashington had at least 3 people he considered his son (probably more)
Sadly, he never had any biological children of his own.

The one dislike on this video is Hamilton cause he’s mad that Lafayette is the favorite son🤣
Of course
😂
Really broke my heart when Washington cried.

I'm so sad this didn't make it into the show :(
Know all too well what it feels like to have one of your closest friends betray you, at least Washington had Lafayette with him
Washington: *dies*
Lafayette: *pat pat*

OMG The relationship between Lafayette and Washington is so adorable 🥺🥺

But seriously that's so fucking sad that look of shock in Lafayette's face when Washington rests his head on his shoulder 😭😭😭
I would give anything to be Washington or Lafayette in that scenario.
WHY WAS THIS SCENE TAKEN OUT???
I know right. But they probably didn't want everyone watching the show to suffer the sadness
Timing most likely. Plus they figure it adds nothing to the progression of the story.
