I don't play Apex but I will say...this is a fucking insult to the player base.
Watch a big majority of game IP's follow this trash system, it happens with a lot of horrible moves anymore in gaming. It's been a downward spiral for years lol

I feel that the only reason COD didn't get more backlash for the blackcell tier of their battlepasses is because you can still go the f2p route.
You can still buy the battlepass for 1100 cod points, but you earn 1500 cod points each season so you are making more bang for your buck if you are willing to grind it out every 50 days. Not only that, but you can just earn 300 cod points per season in the free to play route and get a free paid tier by the 4th season
Even as a casual cod player, it feels sad to say they did something better than EA...
Fun fact: CoD’s battle pass system costs about $10 or 1000 cod points, and every new season grants you 1300 points back
So basically if you first started CoD’s battle passes back in MW2019, you literally only payed $10 for 5 YEARS of battle passes PLUS slowly increasing your cod points overtime to buy other stuff
Also the skins in fortnite look cool and have new stuff. The apex skins are pretty much just recolours of the base model, with a few exceptions of Path... The skins of apex feel like not much effort has been put, atleast the common to epic variants.
Add the millions of "trackers" you get from loot boxes and battle passes, there is no fun in opening them.

This is just sad man. I never really got into Apex Legends, but seeing our favorite competitive games just crumble and die is a travesty. I loved that game Knockout City. I can't necessarily blame a major corporation for its downfall but I hate it died. Seeing what EA, Ubisoft (they're not Ubihard), and these other "AAAA" game studios just ruin the games because the only care about money is so sad and pisses me off. It's why I'm looking more into indie titles, because they indie devs are content with the money they're making from the game they made, and most don't implement trashy microtransactions that are ridiculously overpriced. Keep up the great work man!
When are we going to stop making excuses for studios just because they made a game we like? People keep blaming EA for what the studios under them do, as if the studios have no say in the matter. Respawn debunked that narrative a while ago with their Star Wars games and telling everyone that they themselves chose to not put microtransactions in the games. 😂
People did the same thing with Destiny 2 and Activision; blamed activision for their shitty monetization. Then they got away from activision and things got much, much worse. Then people used the excuse that it got worse because they're independent and need the money. Then they sold their souls to Sony for a ridiculous amount of money and things got worse still. 😂

@@TheJohhnyE They don't need EA. The Titanfall games are some of the best FPS and don't forget, they built Apex. They may have done it under EA, but they did it.
@@AetherPhantom True, but even (some of the) Devs that have left said they didn't want to work on Titanfall anyway. So even if Respawn did break away, it won't guarantee anyone a Titanfall 3 or a revival of Titanfall. They may have been a group of passionate devs at one point in time, but that has passed. It's like with Bioware, Bethesda and even Raven Software for example. Shells of their former selves.
It's EA's MO. Let's not forget when they did the same thing about the BP's leveling system. They changed the model, so it was harder for you to level up (so you'd spend more) and then made it slightly less difficult to level up, but never went back to the old (better) way. They always announce an unbelievable bad change, people get angry, they make it "better" so people accept it as "well, they're listening".

Just another example of the AAA market actively imploding/shooting itself in the foot. Yeah, lets just try and incentivize more people to buy the battle pass by jacking up the price and not even guarantee a consistent amount of loot per pass! That'll surely work and not backfire at all!
Even if the vision for the new BP system is reworked in some way, I'm sure that EA will find a way to spin it to _look_ better on paper, but still manage to swindle people out of their money (well, more than they already are). And the worst part is? Some of those folks will *thank* them for it.

I'm honestly not surprised. Just like how they changed the collection events, from where you could earn event items from playing the game. To where you now have to buy them.
Not to mention the constant recolouring of heirlooms. Which was ridiculously overpriced to begin with.
See, this is why tying yourself to "heroes" doesn't work well. One of the fun aspects of Fortnite is that you can be anyone. The skins aren't just different looks to a character, they're a whole different character. I do play Fortnite, and yeah, my favourite is Kimiko. I play others at times, but that's the character I prefer. And for the longest time, Epic Games wasn't getting more money from me because while emotes are fun, you get the ones you want, and that's it.
But then they added Fortnite Festival. Making one of my dreams come true, proper Rock Band game on PC. Clone Hero is nice, but because it's mostly a hardcore community, there's barely any custom maps/songs made for those like me, who aren't true experts at the game.
I would also like to say, the new player experience of apex has a wayyyyyyyyyy too high skill cap. New players are rarely present and if any new players join, they are faced with people who have 20000 kills, 1500 matches won and the 4k damage batch. This completely saps the new player confidence. I have tried to get my friends to play this, but no one lasted more than a week. Now with these changes, Imma quit too. Let EA die in the grave they dug.

I'm going to be honest here. I don't have faith that the gaming community who plays this game really cares. I see shit happen with other games and because the community is so addicted to the game itself they will cry about it for a bit then go back to playing the game anyway. It's been this way for years. So long that there was a screenshot of a group on steam that had boycotted some Call of Duty game showing most off them were actually playing that game at the time of the screenshot.
Furthermore, companies like EA often benefit anyway. Either the gamers that complain just go ahead and keep playing and often keep pumping money into the game, or they revert it and the gamers reward them by pumping even more into it. Case in point, when Helldivers 2 was going to require a PSN account to play, people complained and gave negative reviews, since not everybody could even make a PSN account and would not be able to play the game anymore. So Sony backtracked on the requirement but kept the region restrictions meaning even though you don't need a PSN account, if you couldn't play because of that you still can't play because you can't even buy the game anymore.
Despite the fanbase making such a huge deal about how they weren't going to turn their backs on their friends across the world, once Sony reverted the requirement, they didn't care about anything else and went back to pumping money and hours into the game essentially proving that yes they would turn their backs on their friends across the world. Ghost of Tsushima also can't be bought in those regions because one mode of the game requires a PSN account, and the new God Of War makes it mandatory and therefore can't be bought anywhere that doesn't have access to PSN. So while Sony is not going to make as much money, it is literally because they are actively restricting who can buy their games, not because gamers have any real principles to stand on. As long as they are addicted to the game they find fun, they will keep buying and playing said game.
"Pumping money" and "Helldivers 2" doesnt really work, currency is easily obtained ingame. Yes you can buy ingame currency, in the end you'll have to play the game itself cause the unlockable content set you bought with said currency, can only be gained through playing the game itself, or when the commmunity clears an community objective
Other than that i agree your points, people in general tends to be passive and submissive when it doesnt concern themselves, these days it worsens though with how these companies exploiting it and giving customers iron fist treatment and people would only take the least aggressive action they can do

Apex is one of my most favourite multiplayer games , have quite a fond memories with it and playing it since the launch , man it always feels bad to see the things you love destroyed by corporate greed or negligence or both

Look, I am 100% for blaming the publisher over the developer when something shitty happens...but as a massive Titanfall 2 fan, Respawn is an exception in my mind
Between how they sat back and did NOTHING for it while it was getting hacked worse than Team Fortress 2, the fact that it was confirmed that a EA actually OFFERED TO DELAY Jedi Survivor to give them more time to finish it and a RESPAWN EXECUTIVE DECLINED, and the fact that EA was completely unaware Titanfall 3 was canceled until Apex Legends had been in development for 6 months, I don't really know what shitty decisions are on EA and what are on Respawn anymore

tangent out of the way, your point about making the game as enticing as possible to want to spend money...The First Descendant has failed there while Warframe has succeeded
hell, I'd argue Warframe has succeeded better than Fortnite if Fortnite wasn't literally the only think keeping EGS afloat
But still, Warframe has gone 11 years strong at this point and is consistently heralded as having the BEST F2P model ever...and for good reason
This is really scummy but at the same time a lot of players are already unhappy with apex because respawn doe's nothing about the cheaters or zim users and the fact that a content update for them is another 120 dollar season event your probably right about this being EAs hand in the cookie jar here with the battle pass but respawn is no saint when it comes to greed
