She had a pretty brown skin for austrian standarts. That helped me and my husband to develope a habit of applying SPF because no one is safe. Old generation here likes roasting themselves on a sun all summer and i call those people "a skin cancer group". Unfortunately, many of us learn on mistakes and we are lucky if it was just a bad sunburn in Austrian Alps

Thankyou much for this video. I am disabled with chronic pain throughout my body and am primarily homebound. Also I put my window blinds pointed downward. That being said I still wear sunscreen. I have been very careful to wear sunscreen daily since I was 23 ,(I am 53 now,). My facial skin has thanked me for it. Unfortunately I was not thoughtful enough to wear sunscreen on my forearms and hands. I thought because I was olives skinned and never burned in the past that I was safe. When your ventilation system is old (I know the drill) and you can smell whatever your neighbor is having for dinner (over here, the above one looooves his f-ing bacon, every day, it smells💩) What I do is, put on the oven, put in a little bowl (oven safe) with cinnamon and something to dissolve it, like a tiny bit of butter, neutral oil or such. I love your videos, I can say I watched most of them and learned a lot. Just a question, why did you say people with higher melanin need to be more careful about their sun protection?
Thank you, I`m watching this, thinking about the errands I have to go run on a freezing overcast day when I will be bundled up to my eyeballs and the sun will have set by 4:30 thinking ugh, do I haaaave to. And yes! I do! I used an AHA and a retinoid yesterday! Therefore, the tiny bandit mask area of skin that is actually going to be exposed is getting the damn sunscreen.
High altitude. Ugh. Decades ago I spent a day on a boat on Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world, and I got sooooo sunburned: my face and eyelids were swollen the next day. It was freezing cold and I had no idea about the effect of altitude. Lesson learned!!!
In Poland sun in December rises a few minutes before I leave my house (I have 20 min to the office) and goes 15 minutes before I leave the office. On weekdays wearing sunscreen doesn't really make sense, although I sometimes use it as moisturiser. On the weekends, if I plan to go for a walk, I do put sunscreen on.
I am one hour north of Anchorage Alaska (62N). UV Indexes all month are ZERO!!! No sunscreen for now yay! (I hate the way sunscreen feels....even the Korean sunscreens are hard to wear for me)

Dr. Idriss, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!! My face is now a sad mess because I've been taking Cyclosporine for almost 8 years and my Dr. didn't mention my need for sunscreen ALL THE TIME, or anytime for that matter. I'll be wearing it sun up til sun down. Period.
could you make a vid in the future about the ins & outs of moisturizer with spf vs actual sunscreen? i'm still confused about them to this day and if one is more appropriate than the other in certain situations lol
In Australia, we have UV indexes of above 10 constantly. Sunscreen is an absolute must. I don't think I've ever seen a day that has a UV index of below 3 😂 I use the Australian Cancer Council spf50+ moisturiser sunscreen. It also contains vitamin E and aloe vera. I love it, Aussies do sunscreen quite well
Hi Dr. thanks you so much for all the videos I really appreciate!! Also, need your thoughts on chemical Peel for brown Indian skin for melasma and hyperpigmentation please
I’ve always wondered about this. I take walks in the morning before the UV hits 3 and I wondered if sunscreen was necessary. I generally wear it though.
I live in the Philippines, where it rains half of the time. Should i wear sunscreen during rainy days? And is being near the sea have any effects on the skin? Salamat po! Love your channel 😍
Dr Idriss I am your fan. just small advice don't give for free publicity to the products you have in the bathroom. thank you for all the information you share through this platform.
I only go out for a walk after 4 in the shade, with a UPF hat and clothes, a portable fan and plastic rimmed sunglasses. I use tinted mineral sunscreen as well as makeup with mineral sunscreen in it. I live in Houston where the UV is typically above 6. I walk in the shade, but still have issues with my Melasma getting worse 😢
Your mineral sunscreen and makeup might be the problem. SPF makeup doesn't give the correct SPF unless you apply the correct amount, and that's near impossible with makeup. I'd suggest trying chemical sunscreens with better filters under your makeup and seeing if that helps!

Love the video doc. What’s your thoughts on Estrogen cream. Been seeing this from Musley and would love to know your opinion
Happy holidays, Dr. Sherene Idriss... c an you please do something on DYSHIDROTIC ECZEMA. thank you from Washington, DC
Great video ❤
In Poland sun in December rises a few minutes before I leave my house (I have 20 min to the office) and goes 15 minutes before I leave the office. On weekdays wearing sunscreen doesn't really make sense, although I sometimes use it as moisturiser.
On the weekends, if I plan to go for a walk, I do put sunscreen on.
I am one hour north of Anchorage Alaska (62N). UV Indexes all month are ZERO!!! No sunscreen for now yay! (I hate the way sunscreen feels....even the Korean sunscreens are hard to wear for me)
The reflection off the snow though! 😂😂😂
@@jenn8179I think there’s hardly any sun there this time of year though
QUESTIONS! Can you tell us what made you want to be a Dermatologist. I really enjoy watching and learning better ways of taking care of my skin also have you ever heard of CELLEX-C, I have been using this product for over 20 years and at the time it was introduced, it was the only “C” product that penetrated the skin.
Dr Idriss please make a video on hormonal acne and Winlevi, particularly how to layer our skincare while using Winlevi (vit C am and tretinoin/adapalene pm + Winlevi combos). Thank you!
Having applied sunscreen everyday (even at home) for 20 years, not wearing one feels naked to me. 😅
Haha I couldn’t agree more regarding feeling naked without it 😅
Crazy question,is there any products for eye brow growth.
Thank you skin woman very helpful
I’d love if you could do a video about seborrheic dermatitis-friendly products 🙏 I’ve seen you provide some great tips about products to treat it, but it would be so helpful to get more info about ingredients to avoid in the skincare routine, and show some recommendations for a whole skincare routine that has products that don’t promote malessezia growth.
Could you do a video on the reedle shot device thingy .... ? 🥹
Period.
With the prices of sunscreen, this is good news😂 even tho I’ve already been taking the advice from your short on it
could you make a vid in the future about the ins & outs of moisturizer with spf vs actual sunscreen? i'm still confused about them to this day and if one is more appropriate than the other in certain situations lol
Hey, maybe you can talk about ingredients in cosmetics that we should avoid and myths about that like sls or something
Also, need your thoughts on chemical
Peel for brown Indian skin for melasma and hyperpigmentation please
Good to know 👍🏽
Question, if I’m on retinoid and I stay at home all day (with the curtains covering all windows), do I still need to apply sunscreen??
If you are 100% vampire mode ON, nope😅.
Nope
Ok so from now on I’m not using spf unless UV is close to 3. Love your hair color BTW
BTW Dr. Idriss you and your hair look stunning
very helpful! ty!
Dr. Shereene Idriss please make a video about frizzy hair and damaged hair and I'm super confused on how take care of it 😭😭😭
Hey doctor, hope all is well. I recently see lots of videos claiming tretinoin is bad/people are quitting. Do you think there is science to it?
Not really… It’s also due to heat not just the sun exposure plus hormonal fluctuations
@@shereeneidriss The heat is quite brutal here so I know it's part of the problem. I have seen improvement near my eyes with Hydroquinone treatment, but my forehead isn't budging. It's so disheartening.
@@shereeneidriss Fckng hormones🤦🏻♀️😪. I woke up today with The Orion Constellation all over my right zygoma>>TMJ. Miss Perimenopause is starting her unsolicited party🤬...
