    This was amazing! My power button "broke" last year causing my phone to reboot constantly, paid 60$ to have it fixed. Just happened again and I am now set thanks to your video! I have never done anything electronically, and this was super easy to follow. I used a pair of nail clippers (very. carefully.). Thanks, super smart guy!

    The video was simple to follow. My power button issue started today, and is now fixed. I would recommend checking to see if the switch is open or closed (using a multimeter) before trying to yoink the button. I had a helluva time getting the button off. I tried scraping, and I watched the other video, but I just couldn't get it. So I took a razor blade, cut around the edges, and separated the shielding around the switch. I then popped the switch out (in pieces) which left the shielding and solder. There are only two connections to the board from what I saw, so using needlenose pliers I pulled it off (by rocking to the outside of the board). Just watch the collections of videos out there, even the ones that use heat guns and soldering irons. They'll tell you the parts to be mindful, and places to get the best grip. Overall, it took me about an hour, including watching the videos. Great video, just wanted to give my experience for others!

    First, sorry for my bad english. I’m from Germany. I had the same problem with my Galaxy S3. As soon as I plug in the battery, It started immediately without me pressing the power button. On the display was just the Samsung logo for 3 seconds and then it was black and showd the Samsung logo again. Just a bootloop.
    So I removed the power button, plug in the charger, press immediately volume down and the home button but it did not start. The display just showed the battery.
    Then I try your second solution: “One other way is to plug in the charger, take out the charger, and remove the battery and put it back as fast as you can.” - and it had worked!! It started! Thank you very much!

      Same story, I´m from german, made all you said in the video and after removing the powerbutton, ther was a difference. I saw the Battery loading. But there is no possibility for me to turn it on.
      I tried both ways :/

      Ok, a few hours later, it worked. My energysorce was the pc, that wasn´t a success. Later, i tried it normaly from the power socket. That worked.
      Thank you very much :3

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU for uploading this video. My S4 died about a month ago and after being told by numerous people that I would have to toss my phone and pay for a new one, I decided to look around and self-diagnosed my phone as having a stuck power button. Today I followed the instructions and removed the power button from the motherboard and when I plugged it back up to my FACTORY charger, low and behold it started charging and it now works great. Thank you so much!

    So my GS3 was giving me issues with the power button. The first time it did it, a simple tap on the phone's front and back "unstuck" my power button and it was fine for months. Today, it happened again and no amount of tapping... or flicking... or slamming on the counter... worked. So I came upon your video and saw the dismantling of the phone and I freaked out because I knew I wasn't going to be able to do it. So I thought about it for an hour, weighing all my options which all ended in the same conclusion: I have no money for a professional repair. In an act of bravery on my part, I took apart my baby (gs3) and removed the power button just as you said. And now... it works like a charm!!! So thank you very, _very_ much for this video. One thing I did that almost gave me a heart attack: I went into Download Mode on accident when trying to power on my device. Because my phone was not rooted, I simply removed the battery and tried again. I was terrified because the screen said _not_ to power off the device but google gave me good answers lol. So if anybody does this on accident and your phone is _not_ rooted, then you can simply remove the battery and try again. If your phone _is_ rooted though, well, I don't know what will happen.

    • @ZipingL
      @ZipingL  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah if you go into download mode by mistake its no big deal just turn it off. Taking apart the phone is no real feat, it's like playing with legos.

  • @Face_RC
    @Face_RC 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Worked for me. Booted up just fine. Charges now and doesn't immediately shut off.
    So awesome. I was raging because I didn't want to have to buy a new phone haha.. S3 is still a great phone, didn't feel like upgrading, glad I don't have to because of some easy to fix problem like this..
    At 4:15, if you're taking apart a Sprint GS3, the SPH-710, or any S3 without a SIM card slot, the black screw is located in the same general area, but about a inch to the right.

    This is great. What a easy fix. Took about ten minutes. I have had this s3 not working for a about 4 months and actually had already got the s5 as a replacement. I seen this video and grabbed the nonworking phone out of the drawer, dug out my exacto knife and a small phillips screwdriver and followed the instructions and bam now the phone works fine, and the app is awesome to lock the screen. Cant THANK YOU enough!

  • @R6SportBiker
    @R6SportBiker 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Perfect fix!!! I knew it must've been a power button issue when inserting the battery automatically caused the phone to power on and loop. I knew inserting the battery should not cause the phone to turn on. So that was a huge clue to knowing the power button had failed and was permanently stuck on ON even though it still felt like it was toggling when pressed. I followed this video step by step and it worked!!! Thanks for taking the time to make this video and making it easy to follow!

    If anyone is having trouble getting the power button off of the board, I found that using some needle-nose pliers and squeezing the shit out of the button housing lengthwise gets it out no problem. Just make sure to get the leftover plastic debris with some compressed air or a microfiber cloth. Great tutorial, saved my ass.

    DUDE! You just saved my phone! Works like a charm. NOTE: I found a very easy way to remove the power switch. NO SCRAPING! Hold the board on its side so that it's standing and simply wedge it off. Comes right off! Again thanks for this video.

    I don't often post comments but just wanted to thank you so much for this video! Initially I wasn't convinced my issue was a hardware problem but this fix has worked a treat!! The trickiest bit was scraping the button off with the flathead. It wasn't clean but it's satisfying as hell when it comes away from the board. Thanks again :)

  • @aymanhu
    @aymanhu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Instead of removing the switch, I disconnected it by making shallow cuts in the copper tracks connecting it to the rest of the board. A razor blade did the job. Warning, do it at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage. Don't do it if you don't know what is a copper track or if u don't have steady hands. The whole process took under 10 min including assembling the phone. The above video was very helpful!!

    Hello there! For Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini users, I know, not many people make tutorials on how to fix the Power Button.
    What I did to my phone was I grabbed a (Slotted Screwdriver? The one that has a minus symbol) and tried to take out
    the Power Button by force. Then I pushed the tiny button under the Power Button several times and put back the Button at the same spot. And it worked! :)
    (Sorry for some of my bad english )

    Thank you so much for this! My power button got stuck a couple of days ago, and then my phone turned off and wouldn't turn back on! I tried like six other different things, but taking the power button off was the only thing that worked!
    Now I don't have to waste $400 on a new phone until I have more money, so thank you so much for sharing this!

    This video just saved my ass. I was thinking I was going to have to shell out money on a new phone, but I tried this as a last ditch effort to fix my GS3. I didn't do the scraping/prying action as the author suggested. I simply took one of my multitools which has some fine needle nose pliers on it and gripped the power button assembly securely then pulled off the switch assembly. It popped right off with minimal effort.
    Thanks for the help Elpha.

    My Samsung s3 is 2 years old and I have never had any problems with it but today after I took 2-3 screenshots it just started turning on and off continuously. It literally went on like this for 5 hours and I was scared of taking it to the shops that they would format all the data in trying to fix. But this video is a lifesaver. IT WORKED 100% and I didn't even need to install that app as I set my screen timeout to 15 seconds. Thanks so much for making this video. 😊
    Edit: I had no antenna inside my phone no idea why though 😂

    Thanks for this awesome tutorial. Been asking around mobile phone repair shops for advices. Most of them told me that the servicing might costs me about few hundred dollars. Decided to go with your step-by-step and voila.....it works...I have problem starting up the phone though. For those who have problem starting up, there's an easier way (without running through the recovery up & down button screen): How to turn on your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 without the power button

    Thank you for this brilliant tutorial. For someone used to junking phones when they didn't work- I used your video to open up a mobile phone, remove the power button and what's more- fixed it myself - a first time for me and I am indeed thankful to you.
    Had trouble switching on the phone as the method in the video didn't work for me. Tried the alternate method and voila- my phone is working. I am glad & relieved that I can now retrieve all the phone numbers. Cheers mate and more power to you!

    This totally worked!! My phone has had issues charging for a while, showing a charge in the morning (after being plugged in overnight) then dropping to no charge. Then started cutting off, then started booting to the samsung screen and shutting down. I banged it on the power button side and it might load up for a while then shut down. Took it to sprint and they said the processor was dead and i needed a new phone. I came home and had nothing to lose so followed the video, took off the mainboard and pinched the start button off carefully with pliers and presto.. works perfect and charges perfectly. Let me stress that when I pressed the power button it would click like it wasn't stuck but guess something with the switch was busted. Thank you so much!! PS. did trouble shoot through multiple batteries, chords, and cleaning the port..

    Thank you! This worked for me. I'm only a few months from a free upgrade but my phone had become unusable until now. One observation, the home-key + down volume startup procedure resulted in my phone booting into safe mode. The charger-in, charger-out, then the fast battery in-and-out got it to boot up normally. Someone else mentioned the screw at the top of the phone near the speaker was tough to get out, and I agree. This one was the only one that apparently had some thread lock applied at the factory, but just make sure you've got the right size screwdriver to do it. Thanks again for a great guide!

    It worked fine for me. If you don't have much to loose do it. Wear vinyl gloves and be gentle! Use a pair of toe nail scissors , the ones that come to a point and pinch the soilder points of slowly then wiggle the button away from the board I got the button off in about 10 seconds after I gave up scraping. Its an easy fix. Thanks again!

    Thank you so much man. This video just helped me perfectly. I had my S3 (Sprint) booting into the Samsung logo and then nothing else because it would almost immediately shut back off. I thought there was no way it was software oriented so I tested turning it on and ONLY hitting Vol Up and Home to see if the phone would think those two PLUS Power were being held down, and try and boot into Download or something and sure enough, it did, so I researched your video. Everything worked perfectly! Thank You.
    For anyone having trouble with removing the actual power button, I used a small pair of pliers, clamped both sides and twisted once and the whole unit popped right off. It worked beautifully.
    Thanks again!

    Hi there, my phone ran into the same problem and i was able to fix it following ur tutorial. I my case, i did not have to remove the power button. I had dropped my fone a couple of days back and mebbe it had caused some problem with the switch. So i removed the logic board, clicked and wiggled the power button a few times. I also cleaned the dust off the board and it stopped going the boot loop. May be I was lucky.
    I judt wanted to share my experience and wanted to folks to try this before moving to the next step.

    Thank you very much for this! I've had issues with two of the SIII phones and wasn't sure if I could fix it. Samsung tech support couldn't help. I just found this video after the 2nd phone started having this issues, and I have now fixed both of them due to this video. Very much appreciated. One note, I didn't remove the power button, I just wiggled it around, wedged the screwdriver in there to try to disengage whatever was causing it to make contact, and it works fine now. I may have to play with it again, but at least now I know how!

    I was literally panicking when my power button went bad tonight, but your instructions helped me regain use of my Samsung Galaxy S4 - it still works almost the same as before, and at least now I won't be completely dead in the water while I wait for my replacement power switch to be shipped to me.
    LIked and subscribed. Bless you kind Sir! :)

    I don't normally comment on TH-cam videos at all but for this I have to make an exception. This is the absolute best tutorial on TH-cam. Thank you thank you thank you so much for doing this. I thought my phone was a goner and I've got another three months until my upgrade so getting what seemed to be like a Samsung death-sentence reversed with your guidance is fucking incredible. You're the fucking man.

    I had tried the tip/drop method, which did work for a time, but then had to use the "remove power button" method in this video. It did work. My Galaxy S3 is up and running. Thanks for the thorough video/tutorial.

    I considered taking out the power button altogether as you suggest, but I found a much easier solution. I just used an exacto knife to sheer off a tiny bit of the rubber piece on the backside of the button pressor that sits up against the power button. I saw how snugly it sat up against the power button, and knew from tinkering with it, that any small amount of pressure activated the power switch, so I figured maybe cutting it down a little would allow me to still use the power button without it being right up against it. I may have taken a wee bit too much because I have to depress it beyond the housing of the body, but it seemed to do the trick. I'm sure the power button is still finicky and if I start having the same issue down the road, I can still download that power button app. Thanks for the help, couldn't have done it without you!

    I did it and it works well. The battery was dead. I just let it on charger for a while (out of despair I must say as it did not turn on). With a 7% charge (as it was display once booted) it opened using this the method suggested. Thank you!

    Thanks! This worked a treat. The phone was easy to take apart and put back together, the power button comes off with a bit of persuasion. The only problem I had was with turning it back on. The method shown did not work for me at all; the screen stayed on battery charging. However the method of taking the charger and battery out and back in quickly worked for me. Now I have a working phone when previously it was useless!

    This is great. My phone would not even turn on so I followed this video and removed the power button and now its as good as new (minus the power button).

    This worked to bring my phone back from the dead for free! I'll be buying a new switch and soldering it on there, but this allowed me to use my phone for the few days while I wait for the switch to arrive. Thanks so much!

    Wow! Thank you! Youre the man, just finished doing this after so much troubleshooting to turn my phone on in the past week. Phone wouldnt turn on or boot into recovery cause of the faulty power button. This was the last resort. Cant believe it worked! Booted and copied my stuff off my phone finally. Replacement phone on the way!
    Note: out of paranoia, I didnt scrape the power button off like you mentioned in the video. used needle nose pliers to wiggle it out of place. Still worked perfectly.

    Thanks for posting this I did this today I actually used a small nail clipper to snip of the power switch it was so easy to do this and now my phone is alive! I downloaded the button savior app and its awesome.
    Only thing that saddens me is that I can no longer use screenshot.

      If you are using the original android that your phone came with, you can still screen shot! (scroll down to method #2) www.androidcentral.com/how-take-screen-shot-samsung-galaxy-s-iii
      Never though of using a nail clipper, good idea!

      You can still do screen shots with the hand gestures. Enable motion in your settings.

    Your video saved me!!! Thanks mannnn!! My phone has been dead for only 2 days, but communication between me and my family has been awful (esp when coordinating rides and such). And this happens of course a month before my 2 yr contract is up. Although I tried to follow your instructions to the T, I believe I may have ripped the antenna off the logic board, but I carefully placed it right on top of where it used to connect to the logic board and secured it in place with the cover piece. It works, so it's all good. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

    Sir, you deserve a medal. I was absolutely sure I had to buy a new phone, but thanks to your tutorial, my sgs3 is back to life and kicking. However, the device has a strange side effect and I can't hardly find info about it: the signal now fluctuates back and forth, rendering the phone unable to connect in several areas. Did someone have this problem? Did someone fix it?
    Honestly, thanks again. Your video is quite useful. :-)

    I just fully removed the power button. I followed the tutorial and my phone works again! Thanks alot man. My battery seems to be reading 0 though and I can't have it on without it being plugged into the power cord. Obviously this can be caused by many reasons. But I was just wondering if you have heard or yourself had come across this problem after performing this method of fixing the problem.

    Thanks a lot! it worked. I'd just like to add that if you know anybody with a soldering iron he could do it for you without damaging the electronic board. If you ever plan on replacing the defective switch, dont remove the power switch with a screwdriver.

    Thought I was going to have to buy a new phone. The switch was extremely sensitive, it would shut off when I put it in my purse and was very difficult to turn back on. Barely touching the button would make the screen flicker on but hard pressing it would yield no results. This fix worked for me in one go. Thanks for the video!
