Canon friends: If you need a 70-200 mm in a pinch get one with an RF adapter second hand. You can get good ones starting at 700 USD + 130 USD for the adapter.

makes no sense to phase out the regular 70-200. The new one will probably be heavier, softer, with more distortion, BUT it will be parfocal and have support for the motorized zoom module, same as the 24-105. I don't see the reason to phase out a photo lens for a video lens. They can coexist.
I've got the old school EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS L, and am considering replacing it with the new RF 70-200 f/4 L. From the research I've done, it's so much lighter and easier to handle, I think I'll actually use it, which I have only rarely done with the EF due to size and weight. Replacing the existing one (even if JUST the f/2.8 version) would completely eliminate that edge for people like me, and I don't think would be a popular move.
Softer? That sounds made up. There's probably going to be some sacrifice for this power zoom feature but your list doesn't make sense because then the lens would basically suck and there would be no reason to actually buy it. A extending zoom on a 70-200 is just kind of.. balls. Because of the size of the lens it's clunky Lord knows you don't want any dust seeping into your 2400$ lens. My 2c
@@simonmaduxx6777 I am just basing this off of my experience with the 24-105 2.8. If it’s in the same line, it should carry over some characteristics. That’s usually what cinema lenses do. Parfocals are HARD to design, and at these price points you’re bound to have some handicaps when compared to a lens which isn’t designed around that characteristic.

It's going to be nearly $3,000 so if it's not damn good it just won't sell. Personally I'd rather just keep adapting old EF version 2. It'll be the same size and weight anyway, and video with it is not my concern.. yet ;)
I find white lenses too conspicuous, especially on vacation. Sigma and Tamron would be good if there were finally lenses for full frame cameras. As a hobby photographer, Canon is too expensive. A RF 70-200 f2.8 would really nice to have, but not for that price,..
In reality, purchasing a Canon brand will not define you as a professional photographer. Your ability to skillfully compose and edit images is not contingent on pricier Canon lenses.
I dont mind when price is the only drawback because I have the money. I do mind when there are other flaws that shouldnt be present in such expensive lenses.
Regarding Instagram, I reallyyyyy wish they would enable people to replace the image in their post without having to delete the entire post & repost it all over again. That feature is so much more useful to everyone than having 20 images in one post.

Pretty sure Sony’s current 85/1.4 is closely based on the old Minolta 85/1.4 AF lens, which back in the film days was excellent but in modern times it definitely shows its age. A brand new 85/1.4 or 85mm f1.2 GM would be great.

I love and use my EF 70-200 L IS USM III on my 7D Mark II and R7 mostly with the 1,4 TC. I love this master peace of glas - for me a prime lens that can "accidentally" zoom 😄. I (personally) have no need for this dark hybrid version (photos and filming). And I love the zebra style of my "old" zoom lens. 😆
I am so hyped for the new 85mm. I've been waiting for it because while the sigma is better I also do sports and would like to make sure I get my full 30fps with the lens. Would love to try using for all my indoor sports.
Well, I did a lot of photos with Canon's EF 85 1.2 and currently own Sony's 50 1.2 - the problem is these lenses are big and chunky, and you pay a lot of weight & price for this extra 1.2 vs 1.4. And the bokeh is not THAT different. So considering Sony is targeting on producing lightest and most compact lenses it's pretty logical it is doing 1.4 instead of 1.2
it's also because sony has a much smaller mount compared to Canon RF and Nikon Z and it's another design constraint. that's also why they can't make a 28-70 f2

If ig supported landscape better for once (or even mixed media so i dont need to frame the pictures so they all fit) well that would be an actual improvement!
Today, I would never spend $1,000 usd or more on a GM-85. Actually, I would say its worth at most, $700 usd or less for a GM85. The Sigma Art 85mm is better overall and has a better price tag. Hopefully the GM85-ii will fix all of its first-gen problems and add 4 XD linear motors to be worthy of a $1,800 usd price tag again.
I have the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and my only complaint is not being able to add teleconverters. Before I switched to Canon I used to travel with my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 and a 2x teleconverter on trips that were not specifically for birding to use in case I came upon some birds while out walking around. I would like to see Canon redesign the teleconverters so they can be used on the 70-200 and if possible on the 100-500 without losing half the zoom range.

I'm looking at a Lumix S5iiX to record in LOG and to start shooting photos in RAW. Do you have a recommendation on what type of SD card to get to record at the highest internal recording quality for video? Would something like SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC at 256GB be good, or is that more than necessary? Figuring out the specs is a nightmare for me. Cool that a new 70-200 lens is on the way. I have been holding out trying to get the 200 - 800 but it is nowhere to be found so I guess I will hold out and spend the precious pennies on the 70-200. Hopefully it comes out soon. I was told the 200-800 would be restocked by July. Now they say December!!

I don't think Canon would phase out the current 70-200mm. They've had multiple 70-200mm lenses available in the past, I can't see why they wouldn't keep it now. Some people still like the compact nature of the current version, but I would think the price would have to come down if the Z model comes in at 3000 usd, which it probably will. They still had at least 4 versions of the 70-200mm in the EF line that were all available until they started to phase it out. Meanwhile I will probably be shooting with my EF 70-200mm F2.8 IS III adapted for a long time.

I can't imagine going back to a gigantic internal focus 70-200! Might consider adding the new lens to my kit if it was a macro lens, or f/2.0 and worked with teleconverters. I would consider kissing the engineer that created the external zooming RF70-200 (OK, a hug maybe;) it was the primary reason I upgraded to the R mirrorless system. I can understand why video shooters like these new power zoom lenses.
Canon lenses are not really better than Sigma - just more expensive. A least in EF times that was the case. For example the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art was sharper than any 85mm lens from Canon.

a niffty 50 1.8 on a r50 will give you a 80mm portrait field of view and maybe a 24mm or 28mm, which will give you close to a 40 to 50mm field of view. All of these lenses will keep your kit compact and in balance.
@@kaywayneflor89 a 50 is too tight for events its going to be like an 80mm on a r50. Get a 15-35 for future proofing . Most people tend to prefer full body but you always want to have the flexibility to zoom in. But if you dont have that much money an 18-150 is will get through most days
If it was your business would you build all your camera market and then let someone who didn’t do all of the R&D reverse engineer your lenses and sell them cheaper without the R&D costs? Not good business.

For EF, look for a used EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM. I don't know prices where you are, but here they are less expensive than a new Tamron or Sigma lens, and it will outperform them. Then just adapt it to your R8 with the Canon adapter, it will work at least as well as it did on your EF cameras, maybe even better due to the more advanced AF system. The RF version would only work on your R8, and it's only advantage is that it is more compact. Since your R8 does not have IBIS the IS will be about the same between the RF and EF model. Even if it did, the combined IBIS/IS the RF version has over the EF version would only play a role in the comparison if you are using really slow shutter speeds, which is not likely with a 70-200mm. They are equal optically, no advantage there (but I consider the EF to have the advantage due to being much older and much less expensive but still just as good optically). The RF just cost too much more for no real advantage beyond the compact size, so if cost is a factor for you then the EF lens will be a great choice.

If anything I want f1.4/f1.8 primes and high quality f2.8 zooms. It was rather tough to walk around with a 28-70 f2 for a week. Not a problem at events taking place at locations but for traveling and nature photography its pain to have such a heavy lens. Im considering the 24-105 f4 just to have something lighter and more reach. I like how small and compact the cheap RF 35, 50 and 85mm lenses are. Would like that with higher optical and build quality.

Buy used EF glass, it works wonders for the price (Or new if you can get a good deal)

For EF, look for a used EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM. I don't know prices where you are, but here they are less expensive than a new Tamron or Sigma lens, and it will outperform them. Then just adapt it to your R8 with the Canon adapter, it will work at least as well as it did on your EF cameras, maybe even better due to the more advanced AF system. The RF version would only work on your R8, and it's only advantage is that it is more compact. Since your R8 does not have IBIS the IS will be about the same between the RF and EF model. Even if it did, the combined IBIS/IS the RF version has over the EF version would only play a role in the comparison if you are using really slow shutter speeds, which is not likely with a 70-200mm. They are equal optically, no advantage there (but I consider the EF to have the advantage due to being much older and much less expensive but still just as good optically). The RF just cost too much more for no real advantage beyond the compact size, so if cost is a factor for you then the EF lens will be a great choice.

If anything I want f1.4/f1.8 primes and high quality f2.8 zooms. It was rather tough to walk around with a 28-70 f2 for a week. Not a problem at events taking place at locations but for traveling and nature photography its pain to have such a heavy lens. Im considering the 24-105 f4 just to have something lighter and more reach. I like how small and compact the cheap RF 35, 50 and 85mm lenses are. Would like that with higher optical and build quality.
