I’m so glad this guy decided to be himself later on. I love Andy from Reverb and this is more of his style of review, but what this guy developed into is completely awesome.
I love his show. I guess the trick it to actually start doing it. I could see how it would take time to develop. I tried to make a couple videos with a hand held camera around 2008 and windows movie maker and the first one was so dark. And the mic on the camera don’t do any justice. And when you watch yourself talk , it was weird. But next time will be better. So I know it takes practice. Well time and money as well. But I guess that’s why all the hate comments come from people that have no videos of them self.
I miss this pedal - had to sell to make my rent one month, but it was a dear friend. Literally never found a bad sound in that thing, regardless of the guitar or amp I was running through. Just a solid, dependable overdrive with buckets of character.
I went through 15-20 overdrives last year. I landed on this one and plan to keep it on my board forever. It legitimately sounds good on every single setting. The Strymon Deco and this pedal are the only two pedals I’ve tried that I can’t get a bad sound out of. Oddly enough with my rig, the Angry Charlie sounds best with everything at noon. Pretty sweet.

There is an alternate school of thought that overdrives can be totally ruined by an eq.like the metalzone.and sometimes a simple 1 knob drive is all you need.i really like the big muff/ rat 3 knob set up. But i run a seperate preamp, and 7 band eq.
Finally broken down and got my first JHS pedal today and it was this gem. You really knocked it out of the park with the Angry Charlie. Also, please make a WURDS IZ HARD shirt.
OMG!!! Eq is everything... Im glad builders are starting to expand the EQ control on high gain pedals and this pedal will slay with this better improvement. I sold my AC V2 but im buying this V3 right now. Damn it boy!
I personally think the original Charlie didn’t quite get the sound it was looking for but this pedal is incredible at getting the jcm800 grit and distortion. Probably the best distortion I’ve heard.
Worth every penny, shame he didn't use eq, it is great. Tired of people soloing on pedal demos. Gotta strum chords and play notes slower to hear the quality. This pedal is great and works for my needs.
It sounds fantastic, no question, but I feel like the real acid-test for an "amp in a box" is in the world of home-recording. That Marshall "throwing an anvil through a plate-glass window" CLANG is a huge weak-link in the amp-modelling software world and it seems like a pedal like this would be a great workaround, but all the demos I hear are recorded through an amp and cab which must be coloring the sound to some extent. What I want to know is, can I get that sound going straight into a DAW? Maybe an impulse-response is required, if so maybe some demos with well-known freeware would be handy . . . anyway great work, cheers.
Well done, thanks for not making the V3 not better but just different as V1. I still prefer the V1 because of the Trebel and Presence adjustment via the Potis.
Got one so my JHS modded Boss BD-2 and JHS Morning Glory v4 can have glorious tones together. Also using two Smiletone Governors Blues (in order to run the two sides of the Governors Blues in various combinations), a VFE Merman (Klon Klone), and 3 VFE Alpha Dogs (rat type pedals). Yes, I have way too many pedals.
torn between the JHS AT I just got and checking out the Angry Charlie V3. On paper V3 might be more flexible because of the T/M/B knobs. Not sure how much more than the EQ (tone) and Air (treble) knobs on the AT.
Hi man, thanks for the video. I just wanted to ask which one would you choose between This Angry Charlie V3 and JHS Andy Timmons? They are both versatile and sound great but I'm torn between the two for my hi gain needs. @ Andy Timmons has that headroom toggle which seems very versatile and the Angry charlie v3 has full EQ. I can't really decide and can't have both as it would be overkill for me really. Can you make a comparison or tell me which one you prefer and why? Cheers!

AC V4, doom option. A topside toggle for original tone, doom or parallel. Inverted similar to the inverted AT signature pedal. Or blacked out, flat black with glossy black font. But you know best. Just picturing it. Please make it doom! Angry Doomed Charlie. 😂
JOSH--- THIS QUESTION IS FOR YOU.. HELP!! I have what appears to be a very rare JHS Angry charlie pedal. It has no logo, it has 2 red, 1 purple, 1 green knob... ALSO, when I removed the bottom cover there is writing with black Sharpe, it's someone's signature, a date, and has "angry charlie" written as well... 9-13-10 is the date written... ANY CLUE ????? I can't seem to get an answer from anyone...
Confused as to what it means for a distortion pedal to have "more headroom." Does that mean it has less distortion/gain than the pervious version? I would rather it have more.
This is so next on my list of JHS peds. Have two currently and love em! My first "real" distortion that I feel in love with was my old Marshall Guvnor (reissue), I still have it buts its fucked up. In conjunction with my klon clone and JHS crayon, I think the Charlie will round out the OD section of my board pretty well. Covid hurt my wallet pretty bad, but as soon as we recover....I'm going to click order soooo hard. It's going to hurt. Just you wait. Bitch.
I've owned a bunch of JHS pedals and still keep one favorite on my board. Great stuff. But man ... you're shooting yourself in the foot with some of your demos. I'm not trying be a troll ... I want you to show your great gear in a good light. But having this player play '3-chord rock' type riffs with multiple guitars - and barely moving the tone-stack - did nothing to make me want this pedal. If it's like any of your other offerings, I know it has to be a much better than what we're hearing. The Andy Timmons pedal and demo DELIVERS. Outstanding pedal !! I bet if there was anyone on the fence with that one, the demo had them pulling out their credit cards immediately. I hope you take my constructive criticism in the manner that I intended. Love your stuff and wish you much success.

Thanks for the response. Liked the Sweetwater demo. That was definitely on the right track. The absolute king of guitar pedal demos has got to be Shawn Tubbs. Commission him for some demos and you won't be able to keep them on the shelves.
One of the things and a couple more I don’t like about this pedal Constructive criticism, I just want additions and fixes and upgrades Is that maybe it’s just me in how I like the amp already cranked and distorted but using this pedal into clean and then distorting, sounds weak and thin and needs more juice, and when I use the mods a little bit it starts sounding narrow, and hard to use comfortably; one thing I want is well at least a tad more volume at 12 maybe, I’ve had a couple pedals where having that just sounds more juicy or have a fat boost switch and that brings me to another thing, I dislike how the AT has extra features this this doesn’t, it feels lacking and that I’m missing out if I buy this pedal, and hope this will get the AT switches and I could just use those and boosts or just special whatever And also another “PROBLEM” I try using it as a clean boost setup into a already distorted a Amp and ALL MY TREBLE is GONE, and it’s so boxy sounding! Kinda like the problem I had when trying a V1 SuperBolt and then got the MoonShine which is perfect and I can do anything TS9 with The V1 SuperBolt trying a clean boost I lost all sound completely But the Angry Charlie has some problems with pots and stuff like I lost all treble even turning it all up clean boosting it, there’s no sign of treble at all, and I don’t know I’m more used to Orange amps and how fat and chunky the sound like how the thicker cab effects that maybe, and stuff, I just love how juicy they sound I got way better sounds out of this then the MXR M75 which try some metal and it’ll sound floppy, this AC has the thickest crispiest metal sound and so juicy (going into a clean amp) but I try clean amp rock tone and it sounds thin but I did that with the MXR M75 and it does the same, All I want with the Angry Charlie is the AT switches so it’s not as lacking also because btw this’s 200$ and ways to play around with the sound and maybe just use the switches to get a more juicy boost would be nice, and distortion, and please fix the knobs when doing the clean no drive and all volume trick, it’s what I love but I tried it on this pedal and I was so sad, and the switches thing I want and expected you’d probably add something else to the pedal like another version, so I took mine back because I didn’t wanna lose money, please do these things I hope you see my comment, I’m not hating, this’s just hopefully helpful feedback, because it’s also one of the best sounding pedals I’ve ever heard but I rarely got that feeling and I more times get it with my JHS Moonshine but I want the more versatile controls where I can also do some metal thingy too if I’m feeling it, and fix the clean boost And the MoonShine sometimes gets a silvery that TS9 sound, and also this’s the most dynamic and organic and most clearest feeling pedal ever but I just think it still needs additions and fixes And oh fun come back, this pedal is trying to be the Marshall with more distortion back then (forgot the name) the one that came after BUT Charlie Brown FIRST had a red shirt, I just thought it’d be fun and silly to say:P But yeah I also like the fun silly names of your pedals instead of stupid crap oh superbadass super distortion! Yes. The flubby sounds of the Tele, Strat and Les Paul sound different, but equally as bad.

Every overdrive and distortion pedal needs three band EQ, imo.

Try DI-Boxes with cab sims. There are cheap options.
